I’m sorry if this is a strange question, but how do you always pump out so much art in such high quality? I feel like I have to take several month long breaks after i draw even a sketch. Love how you draw by the way!

i was asked something of the sort some time ago and i just spent 30 minutes fruitlessly trying to find it again #FUNCTIONALWEBSITE first of all THANK YOU now as answer goes

my current rhythm i think might be a perceived as More Than It Is because up until basically a year ago i was 1) unemployed (the unemployed friend at 4PM on a thursday THAT WAS ME) and 2) not in college so i was Churning It Upppp and loving it the whole time but also not doing it in um Healthy ways. i am not kidding when i said i was locked tf in & could do very little else. was Swallowed Whole in the Drawing

nowadays my life is more #balanced because i actually got school to attend & i gotta study So this might not seem like much of a difference to you but I very much feel the difference between my previous creation time and nowadays'. nowadays it might take me 2 weeks to finish one fully rendered image because i work in sessions of 30 minutes to an hour between classes and studying (silly images/sketches/flat colors take way less time of course)

my actual finished rendered polish pieces are few, i do a lot of silly ^ as mentioned above... love it regardless

now an actual answer to your mention of: "I feel like I have to take several month long breaks after i draw even a sketch." That's because i'm nuts tbh. i've spent the last 3 years drawing basically every day than when i take break, even if I Have To (cf. pinched a nerve in my drawing arm last year[? time is blurry]), i get physically unwell. i get restless, irritable, i feel my body like. #shaking and #boiling. got the artiste's illness. drawing restlessly for the past 3 years made me Really Endurant, but not necessarily in a healthy way. i am aware my time of Endurance is running out and i'm just buying time before a RSI or some other sort of health failure

actually as of right now like december 23 i'm at my parents' house for the holidays and there are way less distraction than in my city apartment and my stress levels are gone so i clock tf in at the furiously scribbling factory. born to be a hermit in the mountains forced to live in the city for his studies.

tldr of this thinggg^ i lock tf in. when i get into the groove of drawing it is very hard to exit it and it is sometimes actively detrimental to me. i am nuts and when i cannot draw i get unwell. it is GOOD that your body has a built-in forced-rest system it will save you your health. do not try to get like me this shit brings me pain. i get out of a Locking Tf In session with what feels like a hangover. i adore art. she's a twisted lover nonetheless. STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!!!!!

But...

I think the trick here is simple.

Cuz some people have pointed out that there's an *easy* logical flow here, but like. There's a step that's crucial.

People didn't have access to mobile phones in the 70s. Or, well, that's not quite true... Wikipedia diving for me.

The first handheld cellular phone was demonstrated in 1973. And weighed 2 kilos. The first commercial cellular network analog was in japan in '78, followed by launches in '81 in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. Prior to this, there was Radio Telephones, but these were primarily mounted in cars and trucks, and briefcase portable models were... Well they were *briefcases*.

The cultural phenomenon is that nowadays not only does literally everyone have their own personal phone, but that it also connects to... Well.

Remember that ARPANET was '69. The 70s was also the decade where the internet was first being *born*. The Internet Protocol Suite wasn't standardized until 82.

So we have these devices that connect to a global network of information, shopping, socialization, movies, games, music... All of us, now, individually. Which is a combination of the idea of the telephone and... Ah,

"Home Computer" was the way people called them in the late 70s, early 80s. And the way *we* think of them in the modern day is also deeply influenced by the idea of the graphical user interface, something that makes computers more visually designed rather than purely text-based as an operating system. And the first commercially-available computer with a GUI was... '79.

And of course, they still use electricity. We've moved past... Well, hold on. Were they still using batteries in the 70s? Hell, even if the technology for Rechargeable, Built-In Batteries was a thing that far back, USB cords weren't designed until '96, which is how nearly anything is recharged these days.

So for the convenience of people who have palm-sized computers in their pockets, so they can readily connect to a global network of information that's like radio but even fancier, we've designed some expensive couches to have built-in ports for the relatively standardized cables we use to charge them.

then we can land on "and also the doorbell is equally portable and uses the same rechargeable technology (and possibly the same connection to global networking), so it's easier to manage if e.g. your original doorbell breaks down." Which is the part that I think people have kinda glibly said is the easy part to explain. And even oversimplify.

The choice of the 70s feels really potent here, because someone in the 70s could have exactly enough context to be completely boggled with not only How, but Why we ended up here. Like. The further you jump back the easier it is to sort of... I'm gonna say "magicalize" a lot of modern tech. Which, to be fair, a lot of modern tech feels like fuckin' magic. We connect to a network that we've formed in the very air around us, powered through harnessing of the energy found in lightning, and it lets us communicate all sorts of things to each other from anywhere in the world at speeds only tales of magicians being able to teleport could hope to achieve. Not even your fastest athletic heroes could outrun it.

But the 70s lands right when a lot of foundations on this tech were just being born. ARPANET was only a few years old, "WiFi" isn't until '97. Microprocessors were just being born and now they're so ubiquitous they're in fuckin' *doorbells*. That thanks to that ubiquity, the need to recharge it is also so supplied for you might have a couch with a convenient port for it!

yeah, infinite and sonic remain friends in the good ending. and since infinite’s heel turn happened a ways back, the resistance has already had some time to adjust to it. to say they’re not still wary of him would be wrong, but... they’re not openly hostile. and like, gotta give the guy some credit for putting his life on the line to stop sonic from destroying the world, right? can’t really fake a sacrifice like that, even if he ended up not dying in the end. someone else probably would have, and the fact is infinite stood in between sonic and everyone else, when he could have just let people die.

that being said they still don’t really like him. he’s really intense and kinda off putting, and his proclivity for extreme violence doesn’t just go away after the story ends. in essence, he’s not “hero” material, even though he’s technically not a bad guy anymore. they have trouble pinning him down... like, if he doesn’t want to see the world burn anymore, then what exactly DOES he want? infinite is a private person and doesn’t offer that information up. 

he’s kinda like shadow, that way. go figure.

infinite doesn’t really hang around the resistance much though. and he definitely doesn’t take orders from knuckles. he’ll do a few heroic things here or there with sonic since it keeps things interesting, but in the end, he’s kinda in this weird space of not-quite-friend-not-quite-foe with the rest of them.

maybe that would change later down the line, but in the meantime he’s fine with being a black sheep who is maybe also looking forward to seeing that new movie with his friend over the weekend.

saw a clickbaity ad that was like “MOTHER TOOK A PHOTO OF HER DAUGHTER, THEN SCREAMED IN HORROR” and instead of clicking the link I started looking closely at the photo to see if I could find what was wrong. there was a snake camouflaged on the tree behind her, seemingly about to strike. I felt satisfied having spotted the snake. that was almost like a fun little game

then I saw basically the same ad but with a different picture. started looking for the hidden snake. I saw no snake, or any other sign of danger. eventually I was stumped enough to click the link. “alright, I give up, tell me what’s wrong with this picture” I said

the link took me to a site with ads between every paragraph, and each paragraph was like 2 sentences max, and every paragraph was basically “this was a seemingly normal situation, BUT HORROR WAS SECRETLY LURKING…” I am honestly a bit impressed at how much they could pad this story before getting to the point. after each paragraph all I thought was “oh my god just GET TO THE POINT ALREADY” and I naively expected they would get to that point if I just scrolled a bit further

EVENTUALLY I scrolled far enough that they mentioned (or rather, started to hint at mentioning) the snake from the first photo. the snake that I spotted prior to clicking a single link. the 2nd photo - the photo that compelled me to click the link - did not have any secret horror lurking in the background. that photo was only included in the article because apparently this family takes a picture of their daughter on the first day of school every year as a sort of tradition. this fact was included (and repeated at least thrice) in the article to pad it out before getting to the snake reveal, forcing me to spend more time giving this shit site more undeserved ad revenue as I scrolled and skimmed impatiently, just wanting to find the secret background detail that apparently didn’t exist

I forget why I started typing this post. I think I originally meant it as a sort of cautionary tale. now I guess I’m just venting

I should’ve known something was up when I saw two photos with the same clickbaity headline, and the 2nd photo featured a kid who looked younger than the first, and I already spotted the snake in the 1st photo
