⚔️ Did you know? In medieval Germany, couples could legally settle disputes with a duel! Fairness was key: the man fought from a hole with one arm tied, while the woman wielded a sack of rocks. 🤯

The Spanish romped through Ecuador popping up catholic franchises throughout the land. As was done throughout much of South America. Though the indigenous cultures of Ecuador date back to 3500 B.C. with the The Valdivia culture. Until several centuries later the Inca came up from Peru to say “what’s up” in the 1400’s. For the Inca’s, saying “what’s up” consists of conquering the nation and that what they did around 1463. But at this point, Ecuador was becoming quite popular for plunderers and the Spanish wanted their turn! So, Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador popped on over and by about 1537 had made it their own, fully benefiting from the Ecuadorian Civil War that was taking place with the Incas upon their arrival. And then the churches began! #funhistory #incas #ecuador #peterpepper #historyfacts #adventurepunk #travelblog #travelphotography #shotoniphone (at Quito, Ecuador) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZZdhHbrkaU/?utm_medium=tumblr

See i’m the same way! I tell people all these random facts sometimes that no one needs or wants. Here’s an example thanks to WWII mentioned above. Have any of you guys heard of the Berlin Candy Bomber?
He was a pilot who would air drop candy for the kids on the east side of Berlin! His real name was Colonel Gail Halvorsen and its just one of those wholesome stories you don’t hear about often.
me: I really like history
what some ppl think I mean, and understandably so: eheheh I like military history
what I mean: people are and have always been fucking crazy and it's very entertaining to find out what they were up to. it's like drama but like three centuries old.

To Neptune! The Navy and the Pig who Became King
When the item up for bid hit the auction stage it was hard to tell what the eager crowd noticed first. It was huge, somewhere between 200 and 300 pounds, and the colors of red, white, and blue struck deep into the hearts of the people of Illinois who still had the attack on Pearl Harbor fresh in their minds. In the era of World War II pork was hard to come by and when the bidding for the pig began it rained in with a fury. Someone offered $100 for a leg, another offered $300 for the shoulder, and amid it all the pig stood blinking calmly while his price rose higher and higher. When the bidding ended he had brought in thousands of dollars and his new owner was ecstatic, but only for the one minute that he owned him. At the end of the night the pig went home with the same person he arrived with and the bidders went home with their fistful of papers. They all knew they were never actually going to go home with a piece of meat, and they were fine with it. This was no ordinary pig, this was King Neptune, and he was going to build a battleship.

Alexander Graham Bell received a patent for the first telephone on #ThisDayInHistory in 1876! Born in Edinburgh, Bell's mother was deaf and he worked with his father and brother on developing methods of teaching speech to other deaf people. He moved to Boston in 1871 and worked at various deaf schools--even teaching Helen Keller. He believed that by teaching the deaf to speak normally, deafness could be ended and the deaf wouldn't be stigmatized by society. Although his distaste for sign language has been criticized, he hoped to end negative images of the deaf. In 1874, Bell hired Thomas Watson and the two got to work on an acoustic telegraph that would change the world! After a rush to the patent office before Elisha Gray could get his patent in, Bell won his patent 144 years ago today. He launched a series of public displays and even showed it to Queen Victoria who excitedly called it "most extraordinary." DID YOU KNOW: Bell also made an early version of a metal detector in 1881? When President James Garfield was shot, he lingered in pain for several months as surgeons tried to find the bullet. Bell was called in and although his device worked, it didn't find the bullet. BUT this was because Dr. Willard Bliss believed the bullet to be in the wrong location and stubbornly refused to let Bell scan other parts of Garfield's chest. . . . #History #USHistory #AmericanHistory #USA #UK #BritishHistory #TodayInHistory #1800s #Victorian #England #Victoria #England #DC #Bell #AT&T #Phone #Britain #Edinburgh #Boston #President #FunHistory #Political #Change (at Knoxville, Tennessee)
