What I think disability aids made by Borderlands gun manufacturers would be like. CW for mentions of systemic ableism and weight loss.

Atlas: Sleek and fancy, but also expensive as hell and prone to accidents. Sort of like IRL fancy prostheses or wheelchairs - they seem cool but are actually kinda sucky and very pricey. Don't expect the average Promethean to afford one. Though in this case, it's because they're often loaded with purely experimental tech that was probably shipped too early.

Hyperion: They make a few prosthetic and implant models and that's it. Pretty much all their stuff is aimed at their own employees trying to get "ahead" and not actual disabled people, so give up trying to find one fitting your particular needs. At least they're pretty fucking sturdy (but not against hacking). And no, they haven't thought of adopting those exoskeletons their engineers use for other needs.

Maliwan: Similar to above, but aimed at their general customer base instead. These guys are hipsters who try marrying form and function, and in many cases that means augs of some sort. I wouldn't really call them transhumanist though, that implies respecting bodily autonomy, human rights and not being ableist; these guys would sell arms with tracking chips and neural interfaces that fry your brainstem if you don't pay the subscription fee. And then tell you to lose weight with the new fad diet their marketing department cooked up. The hoverchairs and flavored chewelry are pretty great, tho.

Dahl: They wouldn't. They claim to be reliable but they're actually the biggest cowards in the Six Galaxies. If one of their soldiers loses a leg or something that's grounds for being (dis)honorably discharged. What exoskeletons or other devices they make are purely for war. Plus, the one Dahl employee we see having a prosthesis (Helena Pierce) doesn't seem to have a Dahl brand one. Aside from weird metal rank implants and funky gun-inspired fidget cubes they don't do much in this department.

Torgue: Expect everything to be painted like a Hot Wheels toy and probably explode somehow - either on you or on your enemies. All the mobility aids have jets attached for either smacking ableists with great force or speeding through town. I think Torgue himself wears a hearing aid (from all the explosions) and it looks like a fucking microphone with car parts on it, complete with exhaust.

Jakobs: Steampunk baybeee!!! Of course, the subgenre of said steampunk depends on the quality of the aid. The most basic ones are IRL Victorian era metal arms: flat, spiky, inhuman, but still quite ornate. The ones custom-tooled for execs and their families (looking at you, Alistair Hammerlock) are more "sleek" steampunk, with fine chassis of signature Jakobs brass and filigree engravings. They also make genuine wood canes with organic rubber grips that will outlive you if you take proper care of them... which is definitely shown in their price tags. The Jakobs stim toy line is half weird gear contraptions, half competition with Dahl's fidget cubes.

Vladof: Heavy, clunky, dieselpunk style. But damn if they aren't effective. A standard Vladof boostchair could break through a wall and be completely unharmed. A Vladof AAC device looks like an electron tube supercomputer that you have to haul around in a cart. That's all I really have to say here.

incredibly picky eater. pushes his food miles away from each other so nothing touches before he’ll eat it.

very particular about food textures too. hates anything crunchy.

will not eat sandwich crusts out of principle. always gives them to either diana or drake.

he’s very socially inept and most of the time doesn’t actually realise that what he’s doing is considered as wrong. doesn’t recognise that other people have thoughts and opinions either. he just forgets other humans exist. the concept is lost on him. has the same thing w animals.

he’s really bad at recognising faces. he understands what is considered conventionally attractive but doesn’t seem to care. he’s more focused on particular features (for example, he likes how nice diana’s skin feels. it’s very smooth. he doesn’t notice her face a lot of the time.) he’ll just see a face and think it’s a good face rather than an attractive face. bad at recognising expressions as well.

is super sensitive to touch, almost repulsed by it. he absolutely hates people touching him and is why he isn’t affectionate w diana at all. (he soon realises that sometimes it’s okay but only if it’s diana)

he’s really sensitive w specific sensations too, he can’t wear specific clothing bc they feel wrong. clothing tags make him crazy, he can’t deal w silk or scratchy materials etc

has had the same safe food (gravy. literally puts it on everything even if it’s gross) since he was a kid and will get violent if he can’t have it (they’ve made special arrangements at the school so he always has access to it)

doesn’t actually understand how relationships work (partly by autism partly by parental trauma). it’s really hard for him to truly open up and trust someone and most of the time he simply doesn’t want to. doesn’t understand that people are friends bc they care about each other and it’s not just transactional and/or business like.

when he gets too overwhelmed (too much noise, too much light, too many sensations, etc) he’ll just freeze. he’ll completely shut down, his thoughts will stop and he will practically disassociate to get away from the “too much”. he will have to be directed away from the situation by somebody else bc he’s not in enough control to do so himself

biting his thumbnail is a stim. bites his other fingernails too. also cracks his knuckles a lot (which bothers everyone around him). playing w his hair is also a stim bc his hair is important to him and it makes him feel safe

wears his socks inside out. absolutely despises the stupid grooves and bumps that socks have so he just turns them inside out. diana makes fun of him for this

bit of a weird question, but why do you tag posts with hands "cw hands"? this question is weird because it does actually come in handy (no pun intended) for me because of my mirror touch but i don't think that's a very common thing so ive just assumed there's a different reason

It's a great question! And the answer's kinda silly: when I ran a previous stim blog like, almost a decade ago, someone asked me to content warn for hands. I didn't ask why, I just started doing it.

Honestly, I want my blog to be as accessible as possible, but I don't know what the most useful content warnings are all the time. I don't know if I've got the right sense of what needs a trypophobia cw or how clearly a liquid being poured needs to be alcohol to get an alcohol cw (or if anyone even cares about that who's following me). But I've decided to err on the side of caution in most cases.

And like. Mirror touch seems like a wholly valid reason to want that content warning tag on posts. I'm not synesthetic myself, but I can imagine that being a distracting thing, especially with regard to slime poking or other messy-hand stims (fun fact, the texture of many slimes is a squick IRL for me). I'm thinking back on some of the candy-making gifsets in particular that would be funky with that.

If there's anything anyone needs me to tag more thoroughly, please ask! I want to ensure this space is accommodating to as many as possible. If I fail to tag, it's never out of spite or malice. It's just me and my ADHD.

You know, I’m not religious but for the sake of the phrase, I pray for anyone who would try to say that people like me (autistic / disabled / could be considered mentally ill) wouldn’t have survived in the ancient world, because whoo boy. I’d have a whole infodump locked and ready for that one LMAO get ready to hear about how autistic people were frequently considered blessings/connected to the gods/etc, how disabled people have been loved and cared for since before the invention of writing, and/or how mentally ill people were loved and had happy lives and even considered religious figures all throughout history. Just because recent history has been badly ableist doesn’t mean I’m not worth anything or that I’m only alive due to modern mercies

LORD ALMIGHTY I LOVE IT. It was everything I expected an MORE!!

In case the spoiler tag isn't working, I'll put my thoughts under a read more too just to be safe :)

My main hope was that I would be able to grow more of a fondness for Shelda, as the amount of content she had main game wasn't really substantial enough for me to get a real liking for her, but the DLC absolutely ammended that for me and now I think she's definitely one of my top favorites.

I genuinely wasn't expecting the big developmental arc that Chandlo goes through but it was really good to see! It really adds more depth into his concern over Snorpy and how to deal with it, and I loved how deeply impactful his conversation with Shelda was (and an added bonus to get a peek into how he interacts with Floofty, since they have all known each other since they were kids, but Snorpy's insistence that he doesn't talk to Floofty was the main reason for the two not having any real interaction base game)

Triffany was another surprise, as it expanded on her already established evasiveness at conflict and my GOD do I relate with that so much. Freezing up and just wanting to step back into the shadow and get on with stuff instead of stepping up to take charge? Near identical to how I work in heated situations too, it's nice to see they didn't try to change that about her in the new content.

We all know my stance on Floofty. I was already over the moon that I was getting any new content for them to begin with, but listen. I need you to understand. I played the game in the mindset of Orlifa (my Journalist/Scientist student OC) and LET ME TELL YOU. THE AMOUNT OF SHIT. THAT FITS INTO HOW I HAVE THOSE TWO INTERACT. BLEW MY FUCKING MIND. I HAVE SO MUCH ART FUEL FROM THIS DLC BAYBEY.

As for the gameplay content, I did not expect the quests from the letter system to add such a substantial amount of work, some of those quests are fucking DIFFICULT! (FUCK THAT ONE THAT MAKES YOU LUNCHPAD YOUR WAY UP TO THE VERY TOP OF FROSTED PEAK. I SPENT. 2 HOURS. DOING THAT.)

But I am SO in love with the variety of stuff you get to decorate your hut, and I've been calling it since the first trailer came out. I cried the MOMENT Filbo was like "hey here's your new hut I hope it can be home for you soon" and BAM. WATERFALL. I KNEW IT WOULD GET ME I JUST REALLY LOVE THE IDEA OF GETTING SO COZY AND AT HOME IN SNAXBURG WITH EVERYONE IT MEANS A LOT TO ME OK.

I love the funny little puzzles you have to do on broken tooth, the first time I played it my brain was fried from like 10+hrs of streaming the original game to the point where I was forgetting how to catch bugsnax. I was a little dissapointed in how small the overall map is though (I played it a second time today and finished the whole DLC content within a few hours) but I still greatly enjoyed all of it regardless of that. I'm doomed to vocal stim the millimochi voice for the next month, sorry to all my friends who are gonna have to put up with that in discord vc's.

9.5/10 dlc -0.5 because I can't get the journalist to kiss Floofty (I'm joking, of course. I can just draw that. It really is a 10/10 <3)

There is. A lot more that I'm obviously not saying, because I'm still honestly absorbing a lot of it. I'm processing all the information from the dlc bit by bit, so it'll take some time. but I have seen everything there is to see (expect some funky art later tonight ;) )
