The first ghoul to welcome Rain topside is Mist, even before his pack leader Aether names him.

She covers his shivering form with a soft, thick robe, helping him take his first unsure steps on dry ground. He still shivers from the shock, but he calms down when he is concentrating on walking instead of the pain and fright of being ripped from his home. He stumbles over his legs, but she is unwavering in her support as she helps him, and they make their way slowly to Mist’s quarters where she assists him into a bathtub.

“Are you a sweet or salty little fish?” Mist asks, as if it’s not obvious that unlike her the new ghoul had markings from the deepest and darkest parts of the pits. She holds up a package of salts. Not bath salts, just simple sea salt crystals. It’s clear that she was prepared to welcome a new water ghoul, and the new ghoul is touched. You only looked after yourself back in the pits. He is still too tired and discombobulated from the summoning to care about if she wants payback later.

“Salt, please” the new water ghoul says in ghoulish, his voice rough from screaming. The summoning had been rough for him, and breathing air made his throat dry and raspy.

He watches intently how the bathtub gets filled with water from a tap that he thinks has to be magic. He cups his webbed hands under the tap, collecting water and pressing it against his neck gills. His tail unfurls from where he kept it wrapped around his waist, and he splashes around in the water to both his and Mist’s amusement.

Mist sings under her breath as she mixes the salt into the bathwater, and he recognizes it as a siren song from home.

Being topside is not too bad, he thinks as he sinks down in the bath and lets the salt water run through his gills.

Almost WIP Wednesday

Was writing a separate fic that is a Captain Scarlet Crossover fanfic today, written since October of last year. So, just wanted to give you an idea of what I am going with this one :)

He pulled up once more, the SPJ just lifting enough to secure an emergency landing. Down and down, he went! Falling from the heavens and into the green ground below. In his thoughts, he hoped that his colleagues landed safely before he finally crashed. His conscience drifted on and off from reality. His vision almost blurry, seeing the green grass from the shattered window. Only the breeze of the gentle wind accompanied his hearing.

wip wednesday

Haiji fiddles with the lighter. Out with it, he tells himself, and says, “I need a gun.” Nico raises his eyebrows. “You have a gun. Agency issued and everything. Tracked bullets, fancy grip, the works.” Haiji hands the lighter back, uses the movement to hide the way he can’t keep his eyes from ducking away from Nico when he clarifies, “I need an untracked gun.” Nico clears his throat. “Only so much use an agent like you can get out of an untracked gun.” He sounds disapproving. “I didn’t think you had the stomach for those types of things, Haiji-san.” He breathes in, breathes out smoke. Waits.

i'm finally in revision for the up draft of this!! with like, 4k of revision notes ;-; putting this bit here because this scene is going to get ripped apart at the seams. but, now that i'm two drafts in, i'm increasingly optimistic that this will be a 4 or 5 draft fic, which means the end is in sight!!

i don’t even know. the pacing issue struck so bad here what the fuck, williamson talked up giving ollie a big arch nemesis just for it to be a merlyn (how do you do something winick did and somehow do it WORSE) and once again more waller. ok.

josh tries to subvert the trope of the loop with that wake up panel, but the subversion is (imo) shit. dinah conveniently being there for a slo mo beach babe moment… josh u have managed to make ME pissed off about dinahollie do you know how hard that is

you had a good concept with past ollies in the quiver era just for it to last what, half an issue? i can enjoy the through line of connor always finding ollie, but man. was there even a fight between ollie and merlyn 😭 this entire book has been “ollie you’re the problem” random family member: ollie stop being the problem “oh okay nvm i will stop 👍”

idk it’s not even that bad it’s just kinda nothing. the big climax is the dinahollie reunion and then more waller and it feels. incomplete. obviously i know the waller story is continuing in the next issues and in other books but man, what a fucking cop out of a green arrow “arc”

as an aside complaint once again, they specifically mention merlyn having meant to have died in the checkmate bull, which is fine for the like 10 people who read leviathan for whatever reason. but there once again is no editorial telling the readers where to go to understand that story! and that shit happened like within the last few years! its not old or inaccessible online or shit.
