Caramba!

Happy Independence Day!
1. If it was not Jose Rizal, who do you think should be the Philippine National Hero?
2. Who do you consider as modern heroes?
3. How much do you love your country?
4. If you’d be reincarnated, would you still choose to be Filipino? If yes, why? If not, what nationality would you want to be?
5. Would you rather serve your country or yourself? Bayan o sarili, pumili ka.
1. If it was not Jose Rizal, who do you think should be the Philippine National Hero?
Gusto ko yung mag asawang sina Diego at Gabriela Silang nagmamahalan isa ang gustong ipaglaban hanggang mamatay.
Sarili ko na lang muna, pangit sistema ng Gobyerno ngayon what's up Maharlika Fund ano saan kukunin tas nanakawin lang din naman.

Diversity.
Tumblr media
It is really upsetting that diversity in the fashion industry still remains a blind spot especially for those who are seen as disabled. Almost a fifth of the UK population is disabled, yet research has shown that only 4% of TV adverts have featured disabled people. When it comes to fashion month and individual fashion weeks, the absence of disabled models is so normalised and common that famous diversity reports or activists do not even feature a disability category.
.Amputees
Tumblr media
jue snell
The experience of Jue Snell, a British model, is a well known famous proof of the lack of diversity in the world of fashion. While attending a London Fashion Week casting, Snell was left humiliated at the auditioning table when told ‘We don’t do disabled, move on,’ staring down at Snell’s amputated lower left arm.
However, During the SS23 show season, there was a glimmer of hope for those affected by disability when Brands such as Collina Strada, Sinéad O’Dwyer and Gabriela Hearst went against the rest of their competitors, sending models with prosthetic limbs and wheelchairs down their catwalks. making a huge difference for disabled fashion which will hopefully encourage other main brands to do the same.
Tumblr media
Earl Granville runway of dreams for tommy Hilfiger.
The runway of dreams show was originally created in 2014 by Mindy Scheier to promote adaptive clothing and provide opportunities for models who suffer with a disability. The runway of Dreams had soon become this fast-growing ecosystem by making it easier for adaptive consumers and designers to find each other. When coming to an actual runway of dreams show there was seen to be a diverse mix of limb different models promoting equality just as the campaign should. After the campaign had taken place many models who had taken part had suddenly developed numerous opportunities such as fashion weeks.
Earl Granville was soon granted the opportunity to take part in New York fashion week which was really out of his comfort zone due to the lack of his opportunities before this campaign. Granville stated the Runway of Dreams show hits the sweet spot for him when it comes to advocating for amputees. “Having a disability doesn’t have to define who you are,” he says. “Embrace what you have and take pride in that. I’m very excited to get my blue steel on.”
Tumblr media
Viktoria Modesta
Modesta has been modelling since she was 15 years old. However, like most disabled models she felt held back by a birth defect in her left leg making her made the decision to have the leg amputated. Many doctors refused to perform the amputation to Viktorias leg because of ethical reasons, but when she was finally able to find a doctor to perform the surgery when she was around 20 years old. At the start Modestas career she began modelling without a prosthetic, but eventually transitioned into wearing different prosthetic legs for different outfits and shoots; she’s become known for her bold, avant-garde prosthetic legs, such as a leg covered entirely in Swarovski crystals, or a pointed black cone-shaped prosthesis.
.Down-syndrome
Tumblr media
Ellie Goldstein
Ellie Goldstein a 20 year old model with Down Syndrome first broke the internet at just 18 years old when Goldstein had participated in a gucci beauty campaign wearing Gucci Mascara L’Obscur however, not being the classic beauty campaign this one was different it was a battle cry against the historic beauty ideals that have long excluded disability. gaining more than 800,000 likes, it was the Italian brand’s most liked post ever. Ellie has made history by being the first model with Down Syndrome to appear on the covers of Glamour Magazine, Elle, Mission Mag, and Euphoria Mag. Three years later, Goldstein’s career in modelling is still as great as ever with campaigns for Adidas, Victoria’s Secret. “My disability has taught me to be ‘me’ and not to be scared of doing things louder in the world,” Goldstein said in her interview for vogue “[It’s about] following your hopes and dreams. Never give up, be who you are and smile all the way.”
Tumblr media
jamie Brewer
Jamie brewer, actress and model known especially for her role in the television series american horror story became the first model with down syndrome to walk down the runway at New York fashion week in winter 2015. Brewer was one of a dozen women carefully selected by designer Carrie Hammer to shatter model stereotypes bringing the equality that was needed onto the runway. Being described as “Role Models Not Runway Models,” the show featured CEOs and marketing executives, philanthropists and bankers, computer coders and even a senior vice president whose job title at an ad agency was “Global Chief Creativity Catalyst.
.wheelchair users
Tumblr media
Danielle Levitt
Disability has been an issue that society has been dealing with since the birth of fashion, even as diversity is now at the forefront of people's’ attention it still isnt normalised to see a diverse range of models on the runway. The model and actor Danielle Levitt had used a wheelchair since her childhood as a result of muscular dystrophy. when Levitts modeling career took off, she worked with friends studying photography and began to notice the lack of physical diversity on sets. Now, she is using her platform to open doors for other creatives with disabilities who may otherwise get overlooked in the fashion industry.
Tumblr media
Alexandra Kutas
Alexandra Kutas claimed the title of the world’s first runway model in a wheelchair as well as Ukraine’s first fashion model with a disability becoming a huge role model to many disabled individuals but also those of Ukrainian ethnicity. Alexandra modelled on the runway during Ukraine Fashion Week in 2015 and a couple of months later had taken part in a photography exhibition called “Break Your Chains” alongside photographer Andrei Sarymsakov in an effort to break down society’s stereotypes and negative perceptions of people with disabilities. She participated in a show for Runway of Dreams in association with Tommy Hilfiger and helped produce the world’s first fashion video featuring disabled models.
.Dwarfism
Tumblr media
Sinead Burke
Burke is known as an Irish writer, academic and disability activist, hoping to change the world to make it accessible and equal to everyone. When describing her thoughts on diversity in the fashion industry she stated "Through writing, public speaking, lecturing and social media, I highlight the lack of inclusivity within the fashion and design industries and consult with leadership to ensure the process of designing for, with and by disabled people is embedded into their business model. I also critique the ways in which the media talks to women and offer an alternative conversation that celebrates the achievements of others with the ‘Extraordinary Women’"
Her determination and her passion for speaking out about disabled people had brought light to the media with people asking questions such as "why design should include everyone". Due to Sinead speaking out and encouraging change in the industry Burke had then gone onto develop a partnership with Burberry, who has made custom pieces adapted to Burke’s height and redesigned a section in their London headquarters to include railings and lower chairs and table. While making history with Burberry Burke also become the first individual with dwarfism to be on the cover of vogue which had been a dream of hers from a young age.
.Conjoined twins
Tumblr media
conjoined twins is a rare birth defect when genetically identical twins which are developed from the same egg begin to share organs or limbs. unfortunately not a very high percentage of these rare twins survive. It is unknown when in the future a pair of conjoined twins will enter the fashion world or if they ever will, i found this aspect really interesting to research with all different types of conjoined twins some being able to be surgically removed apart and some being left to live together. fashion is a big thing to think about when coming to conjoined twins depending on where the attachment is, having to get custom clothing to fit their needs.

(11-Sep-2022)
>> 2022 WCup Riccione, Ita (ijf.org results)
Welnu, hier hun uitslagen, samengevat: 4 wedstrijd-overwinningen door 6 judoka’s.  -- Jente Verstraeten (°01; /-48kg; 121° WRL): out (1 own); verliest van de latere 5° Abiba Abuzhakynova (°97; Kaz; 22° WRL): 3° GSL Ulaanbaatar’22; 2° ACh’22; -- Maxine Heyns (°95; /-70kg; 133° WRL): out (0 own); verliest (01s0/00s2) van iemand die ook out gaat in de volgende ronde, junior  Gabrielle Barbaud (°02; Fra; 165° WRL); -- Jeroen Casse (°98; /-73kg; 71° WRL): out (0 own);  verliest (00s3/00s0) van 1ste-jaars Samuel Gassner (°01; Aut; 225° WRL; 4 ECup medailles bij de jeugd), die zelf out gaat in de volgende ronde na verlies tegen de latere winnaar Luca Otmane (°95; Fra; 83° WRL); -- Jitse Van den Herrewegen (°01; /-90kg; 197° WRL): out (0 own);   verliest op shido (00s3/00s2) tegen Luka Fettkoether (°99; Ger; 221° WRL), die op zijn beurt sneuvelt in zijn volgende kamp tegenb de latere 7°.   -- Karel Foubert (°99; /-90kg; 114° WRL): 5° (2 own);
>> video .

I’m going to start posting some of my favorite images and features in other magazines. I won’t post criticism because everything is subjective and these are the things I subjectivity enjoy most in each issue. I will be starting with Free Skate Mag Issue 34.
The cover features a skater I haven’t seen in a while: Diego ‘The Butcher’ Bucchieri. The photo even has the Free Skate Mag logo almost naturally occurring, though they opted to leave it as a speed sign and place their logo elsewhere. The contents photo was pretty amazing too. I guess Helsinki has moss covered cradles naturally occurring in the forest. And, back to back, on the credits page is a heavy trick that seems super scary to try. Simon Isaksson tosses a no-comply to sugarcane across the steep bank gap in Barcelonetta.
Flip the page and things get real. There have been a lot of sexual misconduct accusations in skateboarding of certain skaters being slimeballs. And we all know many slimeball skaters. While we may not know what is going on behind closed doors, we are starting to find out and need to start holding each other accountable. This piece focuses on ending rape culture, which should be a priority. With more skateboarders emerging on the scene that are not CIS males, we need to foster an safe and open environment.
I then want to skip to the Eetu Toropainen interview. This is kid was just 17 while shooting this interview and this photos are gnarly. The opening 50-50 on a thigh high flatbar to 8-9’ gap over some dirt seems impossible. Most of his photos in the interview seem hectic. He rides for Element and I’m going to look up his footage after this. I really like the next feature with a trick from various European cities. Then there is an interview with Tiago Lemos & Marina Gabriela discussing their start in Jaguariuna, Brazil and how Tiago helped Marina get her start. Marina’s kickflip in that interview is burly. My favorite feature in the issue is titled ‘Being Old; Wearing HUF’ by Jose Vadi. It is an honest take on Keith Hufnagel and the HUF brand from your average skateboarder. We always get the take from close friends but sometimes that doesn’t resonate for skaters outside of the industry. This piece was well written and enjoyable. Next came the piece I was looking forward to: the Flo Mirtain interview. The photos were all shot by Fabien Ponsero, so obviously super sick. That casper stall opening photo is amazing...a trick I only would have expected because I saw his new part. There is great insight into the life of an aging professional skater. He’s still young to me, but I understand the thoughts starting to creep in after 30.
There is much more content too. The Stevie Culhane interview and the Polish skaters article are solid. I was only able to upload 10 photos but you are better off tracking down the magazine and looking for yourself. Theories of Atlantis has it in the US.

Gymnastics History Mythbusting: East Bloc Gymnasts Don't Wear Grips... Except When They Do
On my trip through watching 1980s gymnastics on youtube in as much a chronological order as I could I spent a good day watching the 1981 European Championships.
Why you might ask if you know anything about 1980s competitions on youtube would I do that. Most video from that era is heavily edited down, 2 hour AAs in 30 minutes or an hour if you are lucky. Event finals are often edited down to just the winners. Not to mention that a lot of it is of terrible quality. But the 1981 European Championships are unique on youtube and actually kind of amazing.
Almost eight hours of uncut high quality film footage with no commentaries. You can see fine details and hear the general sound of the meet between floor music (to include the fact that every vault landing sounds like it's a crack of a falling tree it's a wonder any gymnast survived the 1980s).
But in particular I found myself watching the uneven bars event finals with with particular attention because I was watching a bars final with 2 Soviets, 2 Bulgarians, 2 Hungarians, a Romanian and an East German and the camera lingers on their hands as they are preparing the bars and chalking up. And they've all (or nearly all I didn't track every gymnast) got grips on.
Including the Romanian.
That ran counter to the received wisdom I had as a gym fan and from watching 1990s gymnastics that east bloc gymnasts didn't wear grips. I had remembered a comment given to NBC in the mid 2000s by a Ukrainian coach that they couldn't afford to train their younger gymnasts with grips and when given the choice the senior gymnasts often chose to continue not to use grips because they were simply not used to them.
So I started to track when and where I saw gymnasts from those countries I thought of as "no grips" countries wearing grips. I suspected that it was a financial consequence from the collapse of the communist system that carried through to eastern Europe as those countries' gymnastics programs were lacking in funds. My observations of the 1980s suggest this to be the case.
Romanian gymnasts are rarely seen with grips on and that film from 1981 is essentially the last time I saw it.
There were occasional 1980s Chinese bars workers wearing grips.
Soviet gymnasts were all wearing grips until 1987-88 and then it was the youngest gymnasts who weren't wearing them. Shushunova was a grip using bars worker.
To the extent I saw North Korean bars workers in the 1980s they wore grips, but I saw them so rarely I don't think I could say they did so categorically.
The East Germans used grips right through the end of the East German state. Which brings me to my second grips history mythbusting. I have seen it be said that round off bars mounts aren't possible to do with grips on and I took that as true. Until I watched Michelle Goodwin of the United States do a round off arabian bars mount with grips on at the 1982 World Cup and Gabriela Fahnrich do a round off back straddle over the low bar at the 1985 European Championships. I mentioned this discovery to a former MAG friend of mine who seemed surprised I'd been told that it wasn't possible because just as a goof he'd played around with round off arabians to the high bar and he described the sensation of doing so with grips on as not particularly strange or difficult. As far as I can see the two other East Germans who used a round off back tuck over the low bar mount, Martina Jentsch for whom it was named and Dorte Thummler both did so with grips on.
TLDR: In the very later stages of the collapse of communism many gymnasts were trained as juniors to work bars without grips and that persisted in those countries likely because of financial considerations. Grips were used by many Eastern Bloc gymnasts throughout the 1980s with only the very occasional examples of grips being worn by Romanian or Chinese gymnasts.
If you are curious about the 1981 European Championships footage: AA Sub 1, AA Sub 2, EF VT, EF UB, EF BB, EF FX

Time to make my history and filipino teachers proud!
So basically Renee, Dan and Matt are native Filipinos (or indio, which used to be a deregatory term used by the Spanish to coin them as stupid but is now just used to describe native Filipinos)
Renee is a babaylan (a priest-doctor, usually a position taken up by females or ‘feminine’ men)
Dan is a Gabriela Silang (she is known for being the first female leader-general of an army here)
Matt is a magsasaka (a farmer)
The cousins, i.e. Aaron, Andrew and Nicky are insulares (insulares are Spanish born in the Philippines, second in ranking to the peninsulares who were born in Spain)
Allison and Kevin are peninsulares (ok I might have based it a lil, just a LIL bit off their background in canon) who own their own private haciendas (piece of land) which is why they were able to meet the rest of the crew!
And Neil!!! He is an escape peninsulares who joined Renee, Dan and Matt (along with many others) in their small barangay (barangays are the lowest classification of places here, starting from the 3 major islands, provinces, cities, towns and then barangays :)
(Neil’s father is already dead here but he wanted a quieter life, away from the city so he posed as a mangangalakal (trader/merchant) )
And from here on, it’ll be all fluff :)
Have a lovely day, to whoever read this far!
