There's absolutely no way people are now saying that all the gege-hate train is just an internal joke of the fandom. There's no way you're this out of touch with what has been happening.

I've been in the fandom since 2020 and it doesn't take a lot of smarts to see there's been a change in tone in the way some people say that in the last year. Since this new arc of history began, destructive criticism, massive hate and threats have overflowed into hundreds of profiles. It's no longer "oh, I hate Gege akutami" now and for a while now it's "I hate Gege akutami - his manga is horrible I'm gonna drop it (they never do) - he doesn't deserve popularity - he doesn't know how to write - he pretends to have an illness."

And yet, it's not normal to make jokes about wanting to kill someone, hon. Go check yourself if you find that funny, you're no better than let's-joke-about-sensitive-issues reddit incels

one thing running @riordanverse-ship-polls has gotten me thinking about is that the fandom should bring back a lot of old ships that got dropped. Just to mix things up and add some more variety into the fandom again. The community used to have a lot of really interesting and really varied ships but now most of the stuff you see is canon and maybe a couple of leftover things from that time or some rarepairs and that's it (and a lot of weird aggression towards people who diverge from canon ships at all). Half the major characters don't even have prominent alternative ships to canon these days. Like, did you know Hazel/Piper used to be a decently popular ship? When was the last time you saw Hazel/Piper stuff? Probably never if you're a newer fan.

anyways we could really stand to have more variety. together we can bring back variety. the fandom needs to get weirder again. like cmon we've got some new characters let's thing of some new combos.

One thing I cannot understand about certain Rhaenicents is that when you call out the awfulness in their relationship they're all like "but that's what we liiiiike, tragic gfs who are toxic and co-dependent ❤️ 🥰 💕 💝!!!".

But here's the thing, it's not a dual tragedy nor is this relationship co-dependent. In fact Rhaenicent is completely dependent on Alicent being a doormat to Rhaenyra, sacrificing everything for a woman who would set her on fire if Jace said he was feeling cold.

What tragedy has befallen Rhaenyra in the benefit of Alicent? What has Rhaenyra sacrificed for Alicent's gain? Season 2 ends with Alicent a cowardly traitor and Rhaenyra a powerful Queen, the writers coulcn't make it any more clear how one sided and unequal their relationship is.

Rhaenyra gets to have her cake and eat it too, Alicent on the other hand must be grateful for the crumbs she will sometimes toss her way.
