The change is eventual but permanent.

At some level, he isn't surprised to see whole swathes of Wingul's hair go white. It is reminiscent (and likely a byproduct) of the times he would use his booster, hair standing on end in the constant outpour of mana. It also reminds him of Ludger's hair -- a comparison that earned him a very unimpressed look and a night out on the lounging chaise. In his own quarters.

But it is the same fine, silken texture he has enjoyed against his callused fingers for years, and he reminds Wingul of that fact whenever he catches him looking overly long in the mirror.

When his hair was more black and white ribbons than one predominant color, he was approached by trendy young adults whenever they were in Elympios. They asked for the GHS number of his hairstylist, to which Wingul would scoff and say his hair was entirely of his own doing. There were some envious looks and a few personal numbers slid his way, which he did not decline but also did not make use of in any way.

If it made him feel better about the change, he was not going to raise a fuss.

In the end, his concern shifts to ensuring the change does not imply sickliness. Exposure to more sun, helped by the changing spirit climes, somewhat helps, but Wingul remains a study of natural palidity. In spite of his companion's discomfort, he finds they are out and about even more than usual, as if being in the public eye will alleviate any worries. The rumors of ill health come anyway, among confused murmurs that he is still so young and it is wholly unfair.

Wholly unfair would have been losing him to his own misplaced zeal when the world was still coming to grips with itself.

He reaches for Wingul's free hand as they work side by side, lifting it to his lips to kiss his knuckles. Golden eyes slide over to his own, distracted and vaguely annoyed, before settling on a tolerant stare.

"It's not even noon, Gaius. What are you doing?"

It's taken him years to truly understand how much he appreciates this man who has been his contrast and complement for over two decades.

He hums, entwining their fingers before pressing his lips to the back of Wingul's hand once more. "Thinking about you."

Wingul sighs, setting down his quill and giving him his full attention. "You should be thinking about the chancellor's transportation proposal."

His eyes drift down to the stack of documents in front of him, giving them a considering glance before he releases his Wingul's hand. Satisfied, the younger man shifts slightly in his seat to return to work, a noise of surprise escaping him when fingers find their way to the back of his head and insistently pull him over for a deep kiss.

Wingul sinks against the hand on his scalp, a scowl on his face even as he tries to hide his growing blush behind snowy locks. "What has gotten into you?"

His smile is small. Impish. "Can I not appreciate you at any hour of the day?"

A pale brow twitches. But Wingul is soon pushing back his chair and rising, loosening the high collar of his suit jacket. He levels an agitated glare at Gaius, taking hold of his wrist and pulling him out of the study.

"I swear to Chronos, if this is some sort of midlife compulsion of yours, Arst, I will have your head. This is the fifth time in two weeks."

Gaius laughs to himself, keeping pace as they head for the Lotus Ring to ferry them back to their quarters.

He can't help it if Wingul takes to heart his comments that he now looks even more beautiful laid out on their bedsheets.

I do like how Wingul and Gaius are the closest and have such a history. And how they share great respect for each other. It’s makes a good ship.

What's popular these days? *checks AO3* Guy/Luke I guess. I mean I can see why they'd be shipped, but personally I can't see them that way.

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?

*Tales forum flashbacks* That it's the best Tales game. Maybe not the most popular or even my favorite (though close), but definitely the best crafted all around.

💕: What is an unpopular ship that you like?

Guy/Noelle. Tho like with GaiWin, it's more that it's a rarepair rather than unpopular as in hated.
