mickey + roots (an excerpt from James Norbury) [x]

when i sat and thought about mickey and growth i found myself imagining roots. moments of growth that didn't feel exactly like blooming but like rebirth and creating a foundation for his own desires and his own place in the world. the first thing a seed does before it breaks through towards the sun is that it sprouts roots down into the dirt below. what we see on the surface growing upwards is delicate, easily blows in the wind, and easy to tear. but that is deceptive, because hidden in the earth there are hundreds of roots weaving around and in-between the soil, the stones, and even older stronger roots. they reach lower and wider making themselves a permanent piece of the land to the point that to truly extract it would require extraordinary strength and effort that would leave behind a literal crater in the earth. we see so many plants get mowed over or seem to die in the winter, but their roots keep them alive and we see them flourish again and again. and that is what mickey's growth feels like to me. he planted himself a new place in ian's existence and he grew deep strong roots that stayed alive even when things above the surface looked bleak. and now they can weather any storm.

Every time as I think of freckles, I think of Ian s1 and his sweet face. I love thinking about how the bright light shines on his freckles.

While Ian tends to his lovely tomato plants, Mickey is silently going behind him fending off the Tomato Hornworms who threaten his husband's harvest.

Gallacrafts Theme 27: Smokey Shamey On a pretty regular basis I think about None The Wiser (by @loftec) Mickey, in his little apron, standing in the back alley behind his diner gay panic smoking in the freezing cold (because who needs a coat in the dead of winter in Chicago when you're love sick and spiraling). I've been meaning to draw him for awhile, and because the universe knows how to make things happen, @gallacrafts went and declared Smokey Shamey as the theme this month as I was re-reading NTW for the umpteenth time. So here he is, smokey and freezing his ass off. (Close up detail under the cut)

Which Gallavich Scene gets the most views from you?

Mickey Watching Over Ian [S04E07] this is my most watched scene on repeat.

i already mentioned this once, so i'm shamelessly copy-pasting: I love re-watch this scene, i love this song (and i'm so sad that it's been removed from spotify but ok whatever). It's incredibly emotional, that's all. Mickey is so protective, there are so many thoughts on his face. And this silent talk with Svetlana screams very loudly for me. I just like to think that at this moment Mickey is thinking about how much he loves Ian and how glad he is that he's finally here. At his home. In his bed.

Fandom is what keeps me invested in a TV show after it is over, and while I love Ian and Mickey’s story, there was an insane amount of stuff we didn’t get to see, especially in their early years.

I love that fandom exists to fill in the blanks and that I can read filler fic and fix it fic all day long and never risk running out of stories to read.

Fandom rocks and Baby Gallavich are love
