New from @engineered_garments_official Spring Summer 23 collection. We have the FA Pant, inspired by the French Army Pants of the Indochina wars. It's crafted from a 6.5-ounce flat twill. It's also the first time we can remember Engineered Garments using a camo print. The C-1 Vest takes its name from the US Air Force C-1 Survival Vest. A vital piece of equipment was issued to pilots so that they could store rations, medicine, and ammunition. Daiki Suzuki has blended the vest's military influences by dressing them in smart-looking dark navy feather twill. A lightweight and hard-wearing fabric. Hey all! I don’t always step in front of the camera but this week is the anniversary of the rana plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh and @fash_rev and consumers across the world are asking for transparency and to put a face to who made your clothes. @clairetb asked who makes ours, and the answer is #imadeyourclothes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I started my brand I believed in domestic manufacturing bc as a designer I believe if you lose your understanding of construction you lose your ability to design, so it has always been important to me to have a hand in my company’s production so I inspect and pack almost every piece that goes to you. I sew all the first samples, order fabric, and organize production. To do all this I work directly with some amazing women and men in @garmentdistrictnyc who then help bring my designs to life. I know for generations making things has been seen as a blue collar job, but I think making things connects to everything from our food to the clothes (or underwear 😉) that are part of our daily lives! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What makes #ranaplaza so tragic is that it was totally avoidable. We had something similar happen here in the garment district of NYC in 1911 called the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, and that tragedy led to manufacturing and labor laws here in the USA. 102 years later a Rana Plaza happened bc the demand for clothing at lower prices has led a lot of manufacturers to produce overseas where they don’t have to pay the price of doing business in the US where those labor laws require factory inspections, certifications, building codes that cost money but protect lives. Since that day making things here has taken on a whole new meaning for me and many others. Button Man by Andrew Gross takes place in the 20s and 30s of NYC. Family tragedy, three brothers who each choose a different path, the garment district, the Russian Jewish mob and one brother who stands up to them. This is an uncommon story but Gross does a great job making the characters come alive. You are fully invested by the end.
