I was reading Queen Amidala Episode 1 Journal recently, and I found that it’s a nice read (legends btw) that sheds light on Padmé’s thoughts and feelings during TPM.
I think it’s so slept on how Anakin and Padmé shared a deep bond even before they fell in love, and this journal provides me with exactly that. I want to share some moments from the book that hit my Anidala loving heart. (Full disclosure: I’m not saying Anakin and Padmé’ relationship in episode 1 was romantic, simply stating that they had a deep connection and bond even before they fell in love and I feel like that accounts for their inevitable soulmatism in the future ✨)
The first thing I noticed is how Padmé talks about how her grandma would advise her that fate was complicated and that it’d be easier to follow “one thread”
then later on Padmé goes on to say, as they’re tryna survive the sandstorm and Anakin leads them back into his house:
I did mention ✨ soulmatism ✨ right?
She mentions it again, when they’re on Naboo, before the parade. She just knows they’re bonded together now.
Padmé even confirms here that she divides whom she truly is to whom she is expected to be. (Padmé vs Queen Amidala) and can only be one person at different times. And it’s clear that even before Padmé knew what Anakin would become to her, she had no doubts that he was gonna be someone very important to her and had already become someone important to her. Their bond and deep connection was a thing that was felt within both characters.
My favourite part of this journal was the part where Anakin carved out the Japor snippet for Padmé so she’d remember him. But more so, I love how Padmé herself emphasizes how much it meant to her for him to give her that. (saying it’s more precious than he knows, and that it gave her a sense of comfort when she put it on.) this echos why Yoda advises for Padmé to be buried with it in the ROTS novel 💔
Also, this last part hits the nail on the head. Padmé finding a moment of peace with Anakin, and how only one moment is enough for her. A subtle nod to how they become each other’s safe havens when they marry, during the war, and with their overbearing careers. The way how they’re the only ones who can keep the other happy amidst all that’s wrong in the galaxy. No matter what, they can always lean back on each other.
As Matthew Stover says in the Revenge of the Sith novelization:
Love can ignite the stars 💫

Story time! The gathering. part 1
Hello girls, I'm here with the update!
It is always difficult to write at these times because there is so much going on at these gatherings.
Let me start by saying that I arrived at the party 1 hour late. (I met a friend before that)
At first I was sad, but then I didn't mind, because when I arrived the atmosphere was already great, everyone was in a good mood and people were drinking and laughing loudly. (there were a lot of us again)
Of course, I didn't take off my coat, I was already looking where R could be. Obviously, I couldn't find him standing at the door, so I quickly started to take off my coat and in the meantime I adjusted my hair in the mirror to be perfect. After that comes the main point and why I didn't regret being late.
"You're late dear" - said the voice that made my heart beat faster.
R was leaning against the wall with a glass of champagne in his hand, watching me straighten my hair (very awkward situation)
Girls, I can't even tell you how attractive he was, he was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and black linen pants. (I almost tore it off) his hair was slicked back and a few strands hung forward. 😳
So, after that, I greeted him and quickly went through the people and of course, I caught dad in the living room with a big hug. <3
Then, before I even got to the kitchen, a couple of my father's friends caught me and made me drink two half-glass of vodka. bruh😭😭
Well, here comes the point, when I got to the kitchen, R was also standing there talking to a couple of men, and even though I decided not to be shy, somehow I still couldn't start a conversation, so I just poured myself a champagne...
In the meantime, dad asked me to make the fruit salad if I was already late (oops) and UHH R came next to me and asked if he would help me cut them up.
Of course, I immediately said yes, so we made the fruit salad together!! This part was so good because we talked a lot and it was a great feeling to make a salad together.
I knew from that that he had been drinking more, that he teases me a lot more and skins my face all the time. Even now, when I was about to put the apples in the bowl, he poked my side, causing half of them to fall to the ground, and then he even laughed. He seriously embarrassed me so much with that. But of course I didn't give up and threw a piece of blueberry in his face and we started fighting like five-year-olds. lol
But then I stopped when one of the cold blueberries fell under my top and while I was grumpily trying to fish it out, R just grinned and then came closer to me and said.. (girls, don't die)
"Can I help you take it out?" ???????!!!!!!!! EXCUSE ME
It was a flirt that I couldn't handle, I was so embarrassed and I think he knew what he was doing because he just laughed and said he was just joking. 😭😭
Sir I'm going to die because of you!
So far it's very cute and I'm started to feel really good, but frankly there's always someone who spoils it all.
A woman stole R's attention and they started talking, so I finished the fruit salad alone. :(((
But in the meantime I was also talking to people and R had his back to me, we were behind each other's backs the whole time and that's how I heard what they were talking about. In retrospect, maybe I didn't want to hear it...
Because it was burned into my memory that R was asked about a woman, what was going on with her/them. ??? HUH? WHAT
You can imagine that I was eating a fruit salad, but my fork stuck in my mouth when I heard this. I kind of guessed that R wasn't waiting for me and was goo and dating other women, but it was still very painful to face it.🤧 *crying*
I rather filled another glass of champagne and maybe I shouldn't have done that because I could still feel the alcohol a little. (but idc)
I'll continue in another post soon because it would be very long. SORRY AHH
Until then, process the events girls, because I haven't succeeded since then. lol 😫😫😫

i’m… having a bad writer brain day
today I’ve just been looking at my writing & especially of all my wips and all I can think of is how not GOOD it all is - like I know it’s just self doubt because I’ve had this happened before when I wrote in class but today it just…
It feels too much? It’s like I’m not good enough and it’s like something in me clicked to say my writing isn’t anything specia and I almost feel disconnected?? I just hate how discouraged I feel
I know I just need to remind myself how much fun I have and how I’ve connected with so many and maybe even step away from writing for a bit if I have too… but for right now me and my writing feel so small 😞

The Retconning of Aunt May's death from Amazing Spider-Man #400... aka, screw John Byrne!
Wanna know something else we can criticize John Byrne for aside from his general creepiness and bigotry? He undid Aunt May’s death in the beautifully written Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #400, "The Gift," aka one of the best stories to come out of the entire infamous Clone Saga era.
Like... when Linkara reviewed the Web of Death storyline, one particular complaint he brought up was how all of the all the beautiful & emotional moments between Peter Parker and comatose Aunt May were severely undermined in hindsight due to the later retcon that this wasn't actually May Parker, but instead an highly-skilled actress whom Norman Osborn replaced Aunt May with after her stroke and made resemble Peter's aunt through cloning technology.
And the person who was responsible for this controversial retcon? None other than John Byrne!
Byrne apparently refused to even initiate his divisive 1999 Chapter One and The Next Chapter reboots of the Spider-Man titles unless he was allowed to utilize Aunt May as a member of Peter's supporting cast. Consequently, this meant completely retconning Aunt May's lovely and tragic send-off by J.M. DeMatteis & Mark Bagley in ASM #400, even though that issue was highly regarded and celebrated by even the most hardened detractors of The Clone Saga era as a whole.
And you know what made the retconning of Aunt May's death even more stupid? It directly contradicted Norman Osborn's own recounting of The Clone Saga from his perspective in The Osborn Journal one-shot after he was revealed to be the true mastermind behind the whole saga. Writer & editor Glenn Greenberg specifically made sure to include these passages from Norman's private journals:
-"And as luck would have it, the clone -- Reilly -- learned of May Parker's stroke and returned to New York to be near her during her final days. This saved me the trouble of concocting some elaborate scheme to lure him back to the city."
-"Then the old woman finally died, delivering a major emotional blow to Parker and his wife. My only regret is that I was NOT the cause."
Yup, Greenberg wanted to make sure that DeMatteis' brilliant work from ASM #400 wouldn't be undone by having Norman himself state in his private journals that May's death was strictly due to natural causes instead of another part of his behind-the-scene's manipulations. Which makes sense considering that the entire issue was dedicated to Peter & Aunt May's final days together as she revealed to her nephew that she had always known he was Spider-Man and was deeply proud of him before passing away in her bed right besides Peter, Mary Jane & Aunt Anna, with Peter's final words to his surrogate mother-figure being him quoting his favorite childhood novel Peter Pan to her, telling Aunt May:
"Let go. Fly. 'Second to the right... and straight on until morning.'"
Its honestly one of the most simultaneously heartbreaking & beautiful scenes that I've personally ever read in a comic. The silent panels of Ben Reilly crying to himself on the roof of the house, unable to be by his Aunt's side during her final moments since he's only a clone of her nephew, especially tug at my heartstrings (poor Benjy)! And its an issue that resonates with me even more deeply today than back when I initially read it a few years ago, since I now know what it feels like to lose a dearly beloved relative, with both my paternal grandmother (Nana) and maternal grandfather (Paps) having since passed away.
But then John Byrne decided in his infinite wisdom to screw it all up, ignoring all of that emotional weight and feelings of down-to-Earth loss by not only revealing that the Aunt May Peter watched die was actually just a random actress whom Norman Osborn "genetically modified via the Jackal’s cloning technology" (which again… makes ZERO sense), but that Osborn apparently now lied in his own personal diaries or something?
So yeah, the resurrection of Aunt May by John Byrne during the Spider-Man: The Gathering of Five/The Final Chapter arcs is easily one of the most insulting retcons that I've ever encountered since it spits in the face of one of the most beautifully written single-issues that I've personally ever read (both because of how it personally resonates with me as someone who's lost two grandparents, and because is J.M. DeMatteis is among my Top 5 favorite comic book writers).
But trust me, this is the LEAST of John Byrne's problems, which fellow comic creator Ramon Villalobos made an excellent thread discussing in detail if you want further information:
