Modern AU

Not going to lie, I thought about this AU in private for a while before @rozeliyawashereyall helped me gain that confidence to share it with the army. (And the writers more-less)

My personal headcannon of this AU is similar to Demon Slayers ending—where they’re all eventually reborn into a future timeline where everything is better. Still sticking to the sirenverse Al’terra, I made society somewhat the same.

Halfbloods are tolerated much better within this society but there is always that bad apple—like Circe. Roze and I came up with the idea of a sort of Mafia vibe (based off Obi’s Gator Boys 2nd Anniversary art) to the AU, though that’s more of the Founders thing. (Anyone is welcome to join if they wish) All the other bugs live their life as street vendors, performers, journalists, etc.

As for the Founders, they are bounty hunters, modeling as a side-gig. Looking for Circe Fain due to the various crimes she committed; trafficking/man-slaughter/slavery/there’s more. Our Founders just-so-happen to work for The Boys, working to get Bog Boss’s family back.

1) Modern AU

It's the best time of the year, it's Halloween! Your bug is being forced to dress up idc if they don't want to. What's are the dressed up as?

2) Your bug is suddenly in a romance series/film! What's the main trope? (eg slow burn, enemies 2 lovers, friends 2 lovers, etc)

3) How easy is it to become friends with your bug? Like are they happy to talk to new people or do they just tell new people to fuck off?

4) Does your bug have any little signs/habits that indicate how they're feeling? (eg, picking skin when worried or swinging legs when they're happy stuff like that ig)

5) Is your bug good at time/self management?

Chester hadn't been home in a while, like...a while! So your bug goes out to try and find them. Eventually they find him, he was sat at the edge of a cliff, staring outwards with his knees pressed up against his chest.

Bug walked over yet he didn't look up at them. They asked what he was doing all the way out here and he remained quiet for a moment, thinking over what he could say

He hesitated before finally speaking, his voice hushed

"You guys are like family to me, this place is the most homely place I've ever lived and I am infinitely grateful for everything I've got here..."

He paused as his words caught in his throat, he was still staring out but he wasn't paying any attention to the sun setting beyond the trees. His voice began to tremble slightly as he continued

"but...I don't deserve this, I don't deserve any of this, any of you guys. After everything I've let happen, everything I've done...no I don't deserve any of this.."

okay okay, me do questions about modern au!!!!

1: Who is the most likely to force the journalists or some of the others to dress up and model?

2: Scenario: Azren is a journalist, aura is a top researcher in an organization, and Astrid is a fashion designer. (Loads of money in the modern au 🤣) The bugs get a text from Astrid saying;

Astrids text: "Heyyyyyyyyy, can y'all help me out? Ive made some new outfits for everyone based on fav flowers and colors! And sooooo, I was wondering if....yoi could help me find Azren? Peace ✌️!"

How would your bug react?

3: Okay, this next one is after the bugs arrive at Astrid's studio, which is extremely large for some reason. And they also have their outfits on! (Y'all can decide what to wear if anyone draws these 😅🥲) And all the bugs see Aura dragging Azren out of the dressing room!

Azren: *A blushing mess* "AURA I AM NOT GOING OUTSIDE!!!!!"

Aura: "C'mon!! It's just and outfit!!!!"

Aura manage to get Azren out and he is being forced to wear a yellow and green suit with a moonflower pattern on it. Which also has a boob window cuz why not, I like embarrassing mah boi.

How do you think your bug would react!

Honestly Ben 10 is probably one of the most based science fiction series out there by sheer virtue of it having the balls to showcase any alien concept it wanted to no matter how ridiculous, and whenever someone is like “there’s no way in Hell that could ever be scientifically feasible”, it dared to look them in the eyes and go “Yeah, well, this is a world where magic and superpowered mutants also exist. What are you gonna do? Cry about it? You grown ass adult who’s expecting scientific feasibility out of a cartoon meant to sell toys to preteen boys that has lore so inconsistent it’s almost impossible to tell what’s canon and what’s non-canon? LMAO loser.”

I mean OS had it all- obviously aliens but not only that, at minimum 10 of them; mutants in daily life across at least America, no doubt in other places too; magic, albeit one without a system beyond ‘there’s a spellbook and some charms’. The shift to purely alien in AF makes the wonderful nonsense sci-fi stuff into frustrating logic trees of ‘how does xenobiology get this powerful’ which I had definitely fallen into. Ben 10 is unabashedly science fantasy, so why not go the full fantasy and bring back mutants and magic, haha!

Admittedly a good implementation of magic in a series tends to follow a magic system, which I’m not especially great at coming up with, especially in comparison to speculative biology which come with pre-established rules. But hey, I don’t exactly expect it to be fleshed out, at least not as well as the alien aspect of Ben 10; even then, there’s only so much fleshed out, it’s to tease us into making lore for it lmao-

To be fair though, Ben 10 itself had to whack itself on the cheek in order to be reminded of its magic and especially mutant parts, which unfortunately in the latter case was central to major retcons so…

• Our poor touch starved Gator man.

• The end of ep. 4 w/ Bodie and Bug 😭❤️

• Due to his enormous stature, I can see Bug being the weighted blanket.

• Try and change my mind.

• After dinner, he’s laying on the couch on his back or stomach and Bugs just chillin on top of him, both likely falling asleep.

• I can also see Bodie loving head rubs/scratches and just falling asleep while you do it.

• Sunbathing—probably won’t let Bug go into the water just yet, but will probably just relax in the sun with you in comfortable silence

• Talking’s also nice though.

Timmy

• Because of his sharp/prickly shoulders, he leans on Bugs.

• After a long day of swimming around and collecting hunter-trash Timmy probably goes to chill in the shade or sunbathe.

• If Bug’s there, he’ll probably just go chill with you depending if you are a sun or shade person.

• If you’re a sun kind of person, sunbathing with each other while talking away about whatever comes to mind

• If you’re a shade kind of person, that’s where I see him laying his head on your shoulder and (probably) fall asleep

• Or he would just sitting next to you and talk about the cool stuff he found; coins, purses, dropped weapons, etc..

• When Bug gets well enough, these two would be having water-wars and/or rough housing.

Marco

• I don’t see him as the very touchy type.

• I mean sure, he’ll probably let you hug him but be confused on why.

• He’s the “Okay, this is fine.” kind of guy

• Very much enjoys the comfortable silence with company around.

• He’d probably join Bug in the shade if the boys ever get the chance to have a day of swimming like mentioned

• He and Bug relaxing under the shade of a nearby tree as Marco sketched Bodies cabin or the scenery around him.

• Bug lightly leaning his shoulder to see what he’s doing.

• That’s about it, that’s all I see happening with Marco and Bug.
