So what I’ve been seeing a lot of protoframe oc’s around lately and my minds been working in OVERDRIVE thinking about how each character fits their “batch” personality and characteristics wise… but what if they didn’t … and what if they did, but not how they wanted

A “Baruuk” that isn’t an old monk, but a young, volatile bundle of Rage, angry at Scaldra for not helping, angry at the Tech-rot for ruining so many lives, angry the hex for not doing more, angry in general about hows there’s not enough supplies for the never ending flow of civilians that they’re holding in the mall, angry at the fact he KNOWS there’s nobody he can be actually be angry at, their all doing the best they can and he knows that, cause the thing that angers him the most, is that he let himself get tricked by entrati,

All the fight in the world, against a problem he Can’t

A “Dante” that follows that similar train of mind, instead of a wise old warlock using the void as a weapon, a frail young mental patient being used by the void as a weapon, a boy that never stops muttering secrets only he understands, a boy whose a danger to everyone around him, who fires at anything that moves indiscriminately on the field, which would have led to massive numbers of friendly casualties if not for the over guard he gives his “allies”, a boy teetering on the edge of insanity like a tightrope, whose one gust of wind from letting hell come loose through that CURSED book

A “jade” who was a beautiful woman who miscarried her baby after losing her husband, magically given her child back to her only to realise she’ll never meet them, never be able to hold their child cause they’ll never give birth, stuck being 4-5 months pregnant for the rest of their lives, expecting a life changing event that will never happen

She just wanted her child back, now they’ll never leave her

A “xaku”, a horrid fusion of three separate people, from three separate races, ages, backgrounds, genders, lives, who only met each other MOMENTS before being turned into a MONSTER by Entrati, each struggling with the fact that only one of them has full control of the body, dealing with having to learn how to walk, talk, hell, even stand, being bed bound cause all three try to walk out of sync, causing them to collapse onto the ground like a broken toy every time they try to get up, they can’t even FEED themselves anymore, just a rotten, broken, doll

They say 2’s the loneliest number after the number one, but these three will never be alone again

A “Sevagoth”, a young man who had his whole future ahead of him on the high seas, now refusing to leave his room cause he’s haunted by some abomination that attacks anyone and anything that gets near him, his room is destroyed,, claw marks the length of his forearm cover every surface as the beast calls him one. He always wanted a first mate, but he didn’t specify they had to be mates

A “gauss” who wasn’t fast enough to help anyone, after the loss of his family due to a techrot outbreak in his apartment building he was devastated, purely because he was supposed to be dead aswell, if only he made it to the station in time, now after the injection? He’s always first to the scene, first to fight, first to help, first to witness the horrors of war

He’ll never be late again, but is it already too little, too late

A “Hildryn” who was a frail woman, too weak all her life, struggling to even lift her bags, after failing to save the ones she cared for because she was too weak to get the door open, entrati gave her the option to never be weak again

She can now lift the weight of the world with one hand, but can she lift her failures

I love love LOVE Amir as a character, but i feel like he would work a thousand times better as a Gauss protoframe than as volt. Mainly because Gauss' inability to stand still meshes perfectly with Amir's ADHD restlessness.

Warframe 1999

Very much a Warframe update, but a different style of update. New lore, lots of content, a new Warframe chapter. The gorgeous Arthur is our poster boy.

It's not a single player Warframe spinoff, a "Warframe 2" (I confess I was among those theorizing this). Those nipples stay on.

and now, waking up from his nap… it's Ben Starr! "Arthur is a very mysterious character who I am bound by NDA to say… VERY little about!" He's SO cool. and REALLY sexy. He's relatable. He's gonna be a badass, he's got a samurai sword.

Excalibur is a frame. Arthur is a PROTO-FRAME.

Just as an aside, Ben is adorable and hilarious, very fun to watch.

Q: any other warframes getting reworks? A: Inaros rework coming with Dante unbound. Loki rework not planned.

Q: What inspired proto-Mag's design? A: Liger did Arthur and Aoi. We had a very specific vision for those two protoframes: Arthur being the "man scout," and Aoi we wanted a nice contrast to Arthur.

Q: Two questions very well worded I didn't get them down in time because I was nodding along. About stat sticks / pseudo-exalteds and trading. A: Stat sticks: we've talked about it but no changes planned. Trading: we've talked about maybe adding riven filters but not much more than that.

Q: Has anyone at DE considered a TTRPG or even a war game? you could blow games workshop completely out of the water. I'd rather give money to you than them any day. A: We're all fans of that kind of content, we'd endorse fan content, but we don't have the time to pursue it. Q: Has anyone considered modular ("kit") frames? A: We have considered it, but it didn't seem shippable. Seemed scope-scary.

Q: Are you, Rebb, personally happy with the way movement works at this very moment? A: Are you asking pre- or post- sticky corners? Q: Post. Also is Soulframe taking from the movement in Warframe? Geoff: Soulfame is very much in the opposite direction of Warframe, movement-wise. Rebb: I always thought it'd be fun to explore wall running in Warframe. But other than that, I love it. I think it's the best movement system in the third person games space. Every other game I play I try and bullet jump and aim glide. Questioner agrees.

Rebb: I think it's quite sacred to introduce protoframes like this. We're being quite sacred about it (it's not Mag and Excal, it's Aoi and Arthur). Ben: The ways in which you're exploring that dynamic is very cool, and very 90s.

Q: Rebb, what are the things that plague you? A: My plagues are supported by the development team. I'm not alone; whenever I have an ailment, I have someone that to help support me with it. Q: clan to clan interaction? Haven't had that since solar rails? A: Ok so in the urn we have squad link.. \*laugh\* We are trying to do more clan events. They work for by the book tasks. There's opportunity there we haven't explored. No leaderboards. I'll try to do more.

Q: I'm curious how you develop characters as a Warframe team. I've noticed a lot of references to mythology. A: it's a library of devs that have passions. The team is just really diverse and loves really cool shit. The amount of inspiration we get to name things thematically, we have touched lore I didn't know existed. When it comes to Warframes, we're still looking at old Keith Thompson drawings… he's built different.

Q: I'm sorry to take you back in the morgue. Void keys. Will there be a return to the old void and endless missions? A: We're not in the morgue here, we're in ICU. Visiting hours are open. I loved the old voidkey system. We did a soft tease with Dagath keys, it had wins and losses… There were user experience problems. But it's not totally dead. The omnia fissures are kind of that vibe. You can bring any relic to an omnia fissure and just haul ass.

Q: Can we get a toggle for Protea's visor? A: The rigging artist working on it talked about it. Maybe. You're right, it would be nice.

Q: Fashion frame question. Have you considered a DE color palette, like, Megan's greatest hits? A: That sounds like a great idea :) We're doing it.

Q: Are we ever going to see new necramechs? A: I hate saying probably not. No new ones in 1999 at least. We're touching up the ones we have before we go to the morgue, and grab a skull, to make a a new one. Sorry

Q: I've been coerced into asking a question on behalf of someone who's not here. He's made it clear if I don't get a satisfactory answer I won't see my family again. Are there any plans to look at spawn rates for loot and reactants? A: I'm gonna keep talking until you can get your family out safely, I'm filibustering. There's performance issues, we want to get safe on all platforms. The worst offenders we can probably fix. We can increase reactant drop rates. Loot rates is harder to solve.

Q: if you have Drifter selected, can you use drifter melee? A: We thought it was important to keep drifter melee in duviri, but… why not? We could try. Drifters can't mod though. It's not impossible, but it'd take some time.

Q: Warframe being predominantly PVE, has there been talk of collaboration among clans? A: I implied it with the other question, but a social benefit would be great. I'd love to see you make friends with other clans

Ok so Temple surely is one of the new protoframes coming in march. That leaves three slots

My personal top picks would be, from most to least wanted:

- Yareli

- Protea

- Nezha

- Frost

- Voruna

- Garuda

- Gauss and Grendel (do not separate)

However the ones i think are most likely are either older frames that didn't come with the Hex like Loki, Limbo and Ivara which could all use light reworks like they gave Trinity and Nyx or just straight up popular ones so Revenant and Wukong might get one too.

Pretty cool, though I don’t think it would work lore wise? Since Entrati is the only one with the tetsudo strain and warframes/protoframes are seen as techrot by scaldra

I imagine if Grendel had a proto he would probably be associated with Scaldra (at least in the beginning, me thinks). I initially had quite gore and more militarised idea on how he would look like, but I opted to finish the toned down version of the sketches. Have him like this before I change my mind and finish the messed up version lmao.

I thought about also sharing some of the characteristics and ideas I had while designing proto-Grendel and Gauss, a lot of which I took inspiration from people who commented on the original design sheets. (Thank you for that <3)

For Gauss, I really liked the idea of him being an old hot rod lover with greying hair on the sides and a large scar on the bridge of his nose from all the walls he keeps crashing into. I thought it would be fitting for him to wear a black leather biker jacket along with his atomicycle helmet, which I made based on his original design mixed with a fighter pilot helmet. Unlike Amir, Gauss uses his inline skates to achieve his inhuman speeds.

I designed Grendel as a large juggernaut unit with lots of padding around his original warframe design. Accompanied by a full ginger beard that slightly greys out the father it gets to his hair. He has no real medical skills but always keeps a box of band aids (with hot wheel-like designs on them) in one of his many pouches to patch up Gauss with. Dealing with an insatiable hunger. Grendel's constantly growling stomach reminds him of the Helminth strain growing inside him.

Thinking about how their romance system would work in the game. Coming from someone who has two partners, I really loved the idea of Grendel and Gauss being a romanceable couple. That way the drifter can enter their relationship as a third. They could even have a KIM group chat with the two of them reacting to the drifter's messages.

These are just my thoughts and ideas for a personal headcanon, but I really loved reading the suggestions people commented on the original design sheets, so feel free to add your two cents :)

Oh true! And I would doubt that a company that benefits from selling tech would be loyalists, so maybe they even have special connections with the Hex and the civilians.

...or maybe the deliveries are handled by another Protoframe... a Gauss Protoframe! Or one of the frames with invisibility!
