Good afternoon everybody! We'll it's a lazy Sunday so I'm going through my aqua parcels. Thought you might like some "behind the scenes" fun stuff!
Many steps are involved in gem identification even when purchasing from a trusted source. Regardless of where originally purchased, I PERSONALLY examine each loose gemstone thoroughly.
In addition to magnification and my Presidium dial gauge, which I use to measure the gems, I used a chelsea filter, dichroscope, refractometer, polariscope, and special lighting.
After identification, clarity, cut, color, and carat weight are established. The last step is to apply all of this to current price per carat evaluations and established a fair and highly competitive asking price. I subscribe annually to Gemval services, which I wholeheartedly recommend. Proportions (length to with ratio) is also a consideration, the overall make of the cutting, as well as the condition of facets (especially if the stone came out of an existing mounting).
The larger rectangular cushion cut aqua measures 18mm x 13.3mm x 9mm (13 carats!). It has very pleasing color, don't you think? I really prefer aquas that have a very slight greenish undertone.
The smaller aqua measures 12mm x 8.6mm x 6.2mm (4.38 carats). This one has a more desirable blue color and deeper saturation than the first one, but I still have a thing for the slightly greenish undertones of the first one.
For grading purposes, obviously I follow industry standards. But for purchasing for myself, I don't always go by those strict standards. I think its much more important to follow what you personally LOVE, and how the gem speaks to you! Both gems are very pretty though!
I’m an Aquarius/uranus dominant person so I bought amethyst at the spiritual shop because it’s supposed to help regulate Aquarius energy!!!! Helps mental clarity and relationship problems. I will be wearing it in my bra!
Sooo, since this will my first official post on my blog, i think i start with my recent drawing. I'm still new to digital art, but i try to get better in the future.
