Tales of the Outer Planes (2):

Another rumble, closer but further too, under and around; Steve couldn’t keep track of it all, could barely track anything but the tight seam of Eddie against him. Hair in his mouth, blood in his hands, a pounding behind his skull that he knew too well, but every fluttering breath Eddie took was relief to his whirligig brain.

A Brother is Born for Adversity (5):

Kelvin’s brain just about short-circuits from the massive overstimulation of goodness, but he forces himself to pay attention, to soak up every little detail, like the way Keefe’s only surprised for the first second this time, tensing up before melting right into Kelvin’s touch. The way his lips are soft, so soft, total counterpoint to the way his stubble scrubs against Kelvin’s skin, rough but very much not unpleasant. The way his hands find Kelvin’s hips, just under his suit jacket, and the touch feels like it’s giving new meaning to the word ‘blazer’ for how hot those firm fingers make his whole body feel. The way Keefe changes the angle ever-so-slightly, and Kelvin lets him because yeah, this is better, not banging noses anymore, mouths slotting together so right that Kelvin thinks, how could anyone not believe in God when they’re so clearly made to fit together? Definitely the way Keefe’s teeth nip at Kelvin’s lower lip as they break apart, and Kelvin chokes down a groan because his siblings are right there, and he refuses to be embarrassing the way they’re embarrassing.

Magical Mysteries Never Give a Single Thing Back (3):

Because it didn’t really start with a girl, not really. Chrissy was still sweet and nervous and scared, with demons of her own, but Eddie was the well and truly damned one, the one with Hell willingly woven into the fabric of his life, the one who carried damnation with him everywhere he went. No way of proving it, but here, now, plastered to the cold Hell he’d found under Lover’s Lake, he wasn’t so sure that his demon hadn’t followed him home that sticky August night.

Steddie Witches AU (3):

Steve smiled, let his head drop back, and murmured, “Thank you,” to the small gods that kept the space. His only response was the lightest of hums in his breastbone, but that was comfort enough. With a few words - nothing special, just the ones that felt right, the ones he could remember - he pushed a light divinatory spell into the blade, enjoyed the tingle under his nails as it took.

Til I Lose My Breath (1):

Honestly, Nancy could’ve asked her up here to hide a body and Robin would’ve said yes in an instant; it’s not like they hadn’t done worse together in the spring, and any excuse to be close to Nancy, to see her or spend time with her without a looming apocalypse breathing down their necks, Robin was going to take it.

Snowed In (2):

“Couldn’t you do something about this?” he asked, eyebrows raised high as his eyes darted to the windowsill, where snow already piled high, absorbing the scant light. With a grin, arch though it was, she said, “Who’s to say I’m not?”

Mama's Biscuits & Gravy (1):

“Sunday’s the Lord’s day, baby,” she would say, almost sing-song as she sprinkled in a little more flour, tasted the gravy, added a pinch of salt here or a crack of pepper there.

Beyond the Crystal Cave (2):

“Righteous array,” Argyle marveled, spinning around just ahead of the group with a big smile plastered on his face. The flashing lights only made his endless, audacious wardrobe that much more dayglo.

Tales of the Outer Planes:

Prequel series to Descent and TFaK. What happened between March and August 1986 that brought Eddie and Steve so close? A few big incidents, and even more smaller moments that build to something new.

A Brother is Born for Adversity:

Immediately after the end of Righteous Gemstones 3x08. Kelvin's on Cloud 9, Keefe's anxious, and they need to have a talk. Missing scene, essentially.

Magical Mysteries Never Give a Single Thing Back:

Summer 1985: Eddie Munson makes a deal with a demon, trading away true love for musical success. One hitch: that demon looks like Steve Harrington, and says he could give Eddie love in exchange for his musical talent instead. Eddie refuses. Part two is still a WIP and tracks the fallout of that deal, for better or worse.

Steddie Witches AU:

Steve Harrington is from a long line of well-respected witches in one of the world's most powerful covens, but he's never quite lived up to the name or the expectations. He assumed he'd live a life of magical grunt work, but he finally gets a mission from the circle to hunt down a hedge witch, someone operating outside the rigid magical structure of covenhood that keeps everyone safe. Steve thinks he's ready, but nothing could prepare him for Eddie Munson, rogue hedge witch.

Ronance oneshot inspired by girl in red's i wanna be your girlfriend. Robin's helping Nancy organize some things while she's home from Emerson, and Nancy's definitely sending signals, right? ...right?

Snowed In:

Oneshot about a young Udonna and Leanbow getting snowed in while away in the mountains. Fluffy, with basically no plot. Inspired by every K-drama ever where the main couple gets snowed in for the night and has to share body warmth, except one of them is an ice witch.

Mama's Biscuits & Gravy:

Kelvin used to make biscuits and gravy with his mama every Saturday morning. It's pretty much the only thing he knows how to actually make. So why can't he get it right for Keefe?

Evergreen:

Kelvin/Keefe (Gembers?) fluff about dyeing Kelvin's fauxhawk.

Beyond the Crystal Cave (There's a Tunnel Made for Lovin'):

Sequel to Descent and TFaK. The Spicy Six go to a local festival, eat crappy food, ride rides, and get stuck on the Tunnel o' Love when it breaks down. They get stuck for a WHILE. Shenanigans reasonably ensue.

Character: Eshunuum the Gemwarden

Eshunuum the Wise is one of the few Shardminds left on world of Therus. They are an ancient being, as old as the caverns they dwell within. They keep to their cave, protecting the last Elder Shard on the planet, a giant crystal which holds the collective memory of their forgotten race. The crystal emanates intense psionic energy which has slowly propagated the growth of a plethora of gems throughout the cavern and Underdark, which now pulsates with life. Eshunuum guards the Elder Shard patiently. Waiting, protecting, watching.

As a Shardmind, Eshunuum wears simple clothes. They have a sash on their upper body which becomes a dress that covers their lower half, something akin to a toga. Like all Shardminds, Instead of skin, Eshunuum is living crystal of a blood red color. Their entire body is composed of thousands of tiny shards that are in constant motion, all of which give off a soft glow. Their form itself is that of a humanoid cut from gem, though with few defining facial features other than the two shining beacons that are considered Eshunuum’s eyes. They wield a long quarterstaff constructed of the very Elder Shard they protect. Eshunuum is neither she nor he, but non-binary. For Shardminds, both gender and sex are fluid. Additionally, Shardminds do not speak through their mouths, but through their psionic ability (as Shardminds also have no organs, they have no need to eat nor breathe). Eshunuum is fairly blunt and brief, if they ever have need to communicate. Finally, along with protecting the Elder Shard, Eshunuum also keeps their neighboring psi-users in check—the Illithid. Eshunuum is aware that the Illithid’s frightening psionic ability and cruel nature makes them a danger to the rest of the planet. Knowing this, Eshunuum uses the Elder Shard, in conjunction with vast system of crystal it propogated, that branches all across the Underdark to imprison the mind flayers beneath the earth. The Elder Shard emanates intense psionic energy, and since it is the heart of the entire crystalline network, this energy also radiates from every crystal spawned from it. Eshunuum communes with and modifies this energy, making it deadly to any being of psionic capability that is not a Shardmind. This endeavor utterly cripples the Illithid, securing a level of safety for the rest of Therus (from mind flayers at least). And thus, there they wait—Eshunuum the Gemwarden.

Do you think we will see how object heads works?Like,how does it work? are the objects detachable from the body to some extent? does the ones that are fragile have to live with extreme care?You mentioned that gemHeads live long,given that their head is a mineral,does that mean that coalHeads can turn into diamondHeads?and the objects itself are just objects or like,say,filling Polina head with water(and thus using her object the way its meant to) could change her ? long-ask sorry but im curios!

This one is going to be a difficult one to explain and I know I’m either going to be too long or too short with it and it might be confusing so I’m sorry in advance QUQ

But no they’re heads cannot detach from their bodies (At least in my version of them, I know in the game they 100% can) and lids on heads do not open (Although there is a rare condition where it can come off but that’s kind of a horrible condition because your insides can be exposed.) They’re skin is tough both on the “object” and on their body but it’s obviously not made of something like porcelain or silver or anything of the sort. Probably feels weird to touch but to them it’s completely normal. They’re heads cannot function like the object it’s like can long story short. They’re of flesh and blood and usually their blood color is similar to their skin color (There are exceptions of course), like Dice would bleed purple, Hendron would bleed blue, Millie-Red (LOL RED AND BLUE MAKE PURPLE AMMIRITE GUYS), Polina- silver, Ellie- a copper color, etc. The different colors of blood equate to different blood types if I had to compare it to anything. 

When it comes to gem heads and rock heads, they’re under the Object Head category, but they’re really another species entirely. Their genetic makeup is different than normal object heads, gem heads actually are hard like a gem and not “fleshy” I guess you could say, this is also why they live much longer. Coal-headed people… it is possible for them to become diamonds, but it is the most excruciating and time consuming process, and quite dangerous too, also expensive to be done. Basically, gem heads are actually more like rocks than anything, and most of the time can only breed with each other because of this. They can actually shatter, their bodies can crack and break off- they don’t bleed but their insides are a darker color of their skin.

I think that answers it?? I’m not sure if I was coherent about it lmao

Live Audiovisuals - Assessment 2

Introduction

This project is audio recordings and samples that reacts to visual particle systems live. The recorded samples are played by using 1, 2 and 3 on the computer keyboard, and is stopped by the space key on the keyboard. As the sounds play, the particle systems show in a certain way where it is controlled by using the parameters of the particle system. This is completed by connecting the audio to the parameters, some are manipulated to fit in the number range of that specific parameter.

Graphics Rendering

This is an automatic process of generating any type of images from a 2D or a 3D model, by means what the computer programs (Rayani, 2004). This project renders graphics by using the ‘gemwin’ and ‘gemhead’ objects. The gemhead connects the gem objects to the window manager, which is the beginning of the ‘gemlist’ so without the gemhead there will be no render. The gemwin is a tool to pass various messages to the window manager. The messages in this project sends dimensions of the window manager, turning the window manager on or off and also a toggle to switch the rendering off or on.

Visual Music

Visual music uses visual imagery in musical structures, it can also refer to methods that can translate to the related visual presentation (Lund, 2017). Visual music can be played in many roles such as live audiovisual performance, live cinema and VJing (Lund, 2017). In this project the visual music is a live audiovisual performance, which allows the music to be played to the visuals of the performance. With this performance, the imagery is using particles and the particles changes colour and is played in a way where it reacts to the music.

Particle System

This system is used to describe modelling techniques, rendering techniques and types of animation (Martin, 2015). This type of particle system is a collection of particles that composes one or more particles. In the article of particle systems Martin, A (2015) explains the type of particle system that is used in this project:

A particle system is composed of one or more individual particles. Each of these particles has attributes that directly or indirectly affect the behavior of the particle or ultimately how and where the particle is rendered. Often, particles are graphical primitives such as points or lines, but they are not limited to this. Particle systems have also been used to represent complex group dynamics such as flocking birds (Martin, 2015).

In this project, the particle system plays the particles in different colours. As the music is played, it constantly changes the shape and speed. There is a Pure Data object called ‘part_killold’ which kills all particles that is older than the kill time with the default time 10, this make the number longer for particles to live longer and shorter to remove them quicker. The ‘part_velocity’ object sets velocity of particles within the system, this can be an argument of shapes such as line, point, triangle etc. for this project, the chosen shape for the velocity is a sphere.

Audio Processing

Audio processing is a subfield of signal processing, that is concerned of electronic manipulation of audio signals. Audio signals are electronic representations of sound waves which travel through air, consisting of compressions and rarefactions. The energy contained in audio signals is typically measured in decibels. As audio signals may be represented in either digital or analog format, processing may occur in either domain. Analog processors operate directly on the electrical signal, while digital processors operate mathematically on its digital representation (Rao, 2007).

In this project, the audio processor is located in the ‘audio002’ subpatch in Pure Data. This subpatch allows audio from the hard drive to be played through Pure Data, by naming the messages of what the WAV file is named under. The number value for the keys ‘1, 2 and 3’ on a computer keyboard are 49, 50 and 51. In the select object it states these values so that the recorded instrumentals on the hard drive can be played as soon as the number 1, 2 or 3 on the computer keyboard is pressed.

Image Processing & ASCII Codes

Image processing is a theory that is used to convert images into digital form and perform operations with them (Mary, 2011).  This is used in the patch as it converts the six images into Pure Data to use them in the performance. Certain keys on the computer keyboard are pressed to change the images, this is done by using the ASCII codes. ASCII codes translate keys on the computer keyboard into number data. For example if A on the computer keyboard is pressed, then a number data shows 97. To switch through the six images, the patch uses A (97), S (115), D (100), F (102), G (103) and H (104).

Developments

The development to this patch, are the images that has been added into the performance. There are six different images of rappers to include in the particle system. The reason to include these specific images, is so that the project relates to the Hip-Hop music in the patch. Images of the inventor of Hip-Hop DJ Kool Herc, to many British and American rappers and producers. There are images of Grime artists and Old School Hip-Hop artists in the performance. This is so that it relates to the three sampled audios in the patch, as it has a mix of different types of Hip-Hop and Grime instrumentals.
