@chocochipbiscuit asked me some questions over on my dreamwidth, and I thought I would crosspost the headcanon one over here! So! 5am meta craziness.

S: Show us an example of your personal headcanon.

AH okay this is fun. I’ve always thought about how Goodneighbor seems to exist without any outside sabotage from the Institute. I know Goodneighbor is hardly the pinnacle of civilisation, but they have the Memory Den and the capability to scrub synths, and are able to do so in perpetuity? All the while the Institute has managed to infiltrate Diamond City AND the Brotherhood of Steel? The Memory Den is hardly a well-kept secret, and the tech inside that place alone would be enough to send some serious red flags to the SRB regarding the runway synth problem. 

So I think some of the folk we see in there aren’t what they make themselves out to be. And because of them, Goodneighbor is simultaneously impenetrable for the Institute and the BoS while being home for Ghouls, Muties, and all Other Assorted Weirdos. I think it lies in the Den, and the Rail. 

For the Den: Irma isn’t just your sultry hostess, ready to calmly walk you through your deepest passions and deadliest traumas out of the kindness of her own heart. No, she’s got wires snaking through her corset, thick in the hemline of her feathered collar, woven through her dress and plugged into her spine; you’ve got to hide her metal chassis somehow. Those wires feed from the pods, down into the underground where her co-proprietor (read: wife), Dr. Amari, duefully bestows new lives for runaway synths. 

When Irma drapes herself across that chaise, she’s not staring into space. She’s experiencing a dozen lives all at once, scrubbing through the clinete’s memories in real-time. Banking memories for Amari to repurpose downstairs. Parsing intel, preparing it for Glory to feed back to the Railroad. Not human, but not a Gen3, or even a Gen2. Some kind of amalgamate, fused from different parts, different lives. She was a prototype to work through synth memory banks, a robotic 'mother' to an organic father. Anchored to the Den, and nothing like herself without it. (Bonus: DiMA? iRMA? Think about it. ;) ) 

I’ve seen some Courser!Magnolia posts, and cosign that 1000%. She’s the Institute's most prolific (ex-)Courser. The highest recall rate, the highest killcount. Hundreds and hundreds of synths recovered by any means necessary; a weapon in everything but name. Now retired, spending her nights singing in a dingy bar. For Magnolia—that’s freedom.

It’s important to her. Why? She’s been scrubbed so many times during her time as a courser that her memories are stripped bare of any emotional response. It’s just like walking through collection of events. No anchor. Losing hours to disassociation, battling episodes of severe depersonalisation as her sense of self runs threadbare. So she works hard on the songs, manually enriches her experiences with love, lust, hate, passion. Creates new memories, feeling ones, as the others rattle in the dark. And she wants to do that in peace. 

But I don’t think they are guardians or protectors of Goodneighbor. I think it’s a necessity to give them the freedom they require.

Goodneighbor is home to all of the Institute’s greatest creations, its greatest monsters; they all live there. The Institute — Father, specifically — won’t dare recover them, because to do so is to acknowledge what they’ve created. (And also, perhaps they were around before Shaun was Father, in his childhood. So they really are the monstrous relics of the old Institute that abducted and harvested him. Spooky.)

It’s not really a power but he sure did have religious delusions(?) that turned out to actually be true (that he was going to end up a vessel for Forseti)

I made Valentina her own florist shop next to South Square Coffee in Windenburg now she is a young adult. Now she can make and sell her flower arrangements here.

Just like her sister Mia, Cedia also wanted her father to coach her in swimming. But, since Cedia is still a bit too young, the swimming lesson quickly turned into splashing and playing in the water instead.

A photoshoot to mark the end of the second generation. This time along with Luxor's wife and all his exes, without whom he could not have completed the serial romantic aspiration. Luxor also made it to level 10 of the acting career and became a 5 star celebrity which helped him to max out the entertainer career as a comedian as well.

Cedia got her very own gaming console for her birthday and was practically glued to the tv screen for the entire weekend before she had to start high school. On top of that she also got a bedroom makeover because Mia is a young adult now and doesn't stay over anymore so Cedia has the room all to herself.

After the unexpected recent events, it was finally time for Luxor and Tomi to have their honeymoon. They opted for a rental vacation home in Sulani and brought their kids Mia (who apparently just aged up into a young adult after Ira's funeral) and Cedia too.

Luxor regularly puts scrub snails in his water garden to keep it clean, but these snails also often get eaten by the fish that live in the pond. So, Cedia decided to go on a little rescue mission and managed to successfully fish a snail out of the pond. She named the snail Chelone and gave it a new home on her nightstand.
