went on reddit and saw the same dumbass take of "people just hate delphine because she's rude. she wants to punish a war criminal like paarthurnax and you guys only defend paarthurnax bc he acts nice even though he's killed and inslaved countless people" and got really mad about it again.
delphine does not give one flying golden scaled fuck about paarthurnax's war crimes. she wants the LDB to be a killing machine emperor and sees dragons as irredeemable monsters that exist as canon fodder to that end.
i'll believe in her faux moral superiority when i see her record of the great war. has she never killed or harmed an innocent person to save herself? never torched any fields? never lied and stolen? never killed a medic/healer? i don't frankly believe that she hasn't. she's shown she will do whatever she can to achieve her end goals, including using and throwing away people like malborn who have no means to defend themselves and have everything to lose by helping her.
i love evil bad women who do bad things. i hate delphine because she is a badly written hypocrite.she is uninteresting and dull and the only reason the creators and some fans side with her is because they uncritically accept the idea that elves and dragons and any non-human species on nirn are morally corrupt and deserve all the suffering they are put through by humans. she would do the same things paarthurnax has done for a dragonborn emperor and do so gladly, saying it's different because the end goal is a dragonborn ruling over everything and making everything "right" in the world (by giving her power and acclaim in the form of the blades)
every intelligent life has great capacity for evil and for good. the very same drive to conquor dragons feel can even be used for protection, as seen in akatosh and paarthurnax, as well as some emperors. even still, actions driven to protect can harm countless other people because there is always a capacity for harm and to ignore that is to become complicit in that harm, thus turning it into evil. because evil is not a capacity for harm but a blind acceptance of it for your own gains.
the people who were harmed by paarthurnax forgave and celebrated him. they have protected him and both learned from and taught him. in that sense, he has atoned for his sins because the very people who were harmed by him and lost loved ones to have have accepted him when they could have hunted him down like theyve done to every other dragon. in that sense, how is anything we do to kill him thousands of years later "justice" when we have no capacity for the harm he's done? will killing him bring anyone he's harmed back? will it truly stop him from hurting anyone in the future? if we kill anyone with the capacity for harm, that means we have to kill everyone we come across. how is that just? how is that good?
this game fucking sucks for asking morally complex questions and then having the most dull and uninteresting non answers to it. you cant kill delphine because the answer is supposed to be she's right because shes a human who supports the old empire and anyone who stands opposed to that goal is bad and wrong. well the old empire fell because hes no longer needed in the world and she needs to get over it. martin septim's sacrifice made certain of it. why do we have to chase the glory days of a fallen empire to make things "right" in the world? the septim empire was fraught with much pain and suffering and crimes against humanity. who are we or delphine for that matter to decide that suffering was good and just? what truly makes our potential destruction and conquering of tamriel any more morally good than alduin's?

Guess im just on a folklore design kick lately. Wanted to try a pixie so here we go. Wanted to make them insectoid enough but still humanoid in some capacity. Chose a dragonfly because I love them and with some butterfly traits for good measure.

I think Delphine is so interesting because I've always seen her as a character motivated by fear. When we first meet her, she's the last member of the Blades (at least in Skyrim, excluding Esbern who she believes to be dead) in a small town trying to avoid getting found by the Thalmor. There's a chance that if the prophecy of the Last Dragonborn hadn't come to pass, she could have been the last of her order in the province if she couldn't find someone to pass her knowledge onto. And even then, all her knowledge is secondhand.
Until Kynesgrove, she'd probably never seen a dragon. Her predecessors probably hadn't seen a dragon either. All she'd know is what they taught her - so of course, when she finds out about Paarthurnax, she's going to apply the limited knowledge she has. Historical records, the other dragons roaming Skyrim, all of that will combine with what's been drilled into her head - the Blades are dragonslayers and dragons are the enemy, regardless of if the Dragonborn says otherwise.
As for the Thalmor, there was the constant threat of being caught. She's in her fifties now. While she may still be capable, she's not the same 20-30 year old that fought in the Great War or killed an entire group of assassins after her. If the Thalmor came for her now and cornered her, would she still be able to fight them off? If they decided to raze Riverwood to the ground, could she protect the people she's lived the last few years around? Being caught by the Thalmor could be the end not just for her but anyone who is too close to her, as it's likely they'd be questioned or tortured to see whether they were associated with her (and punished/executed if this was found to be the case, regardless of how true it really was).
So of course, when things go to shit, she connects the Thalmor to the dragons. Is it not the most obvious thing for a scared person in the throes of paranoia? The current enemy and the past enemy combined into one. Yes, Delphine is jumping to conclusions and is also completely wrong. Yes, there's probably some hatred and anger bundled up in there. But at its core, I think Delphine is a character that is very, very afraid and her way of dealing with it is to try and find out why it's happening and how to stop it at all costs.

I had the idea of Legate Rikke x Delphine earlier because we could use some more toxic yuri around here and why not some old woman yuri
Legate Rikke understanding Delphine's grievances but believing she lives in the past, wanting the glory days of the Blades back enough by her time they were long gone. Rikke's a practical woman, she sees her home under threat now and fights for it, she still recognizes Talos and is a woman of Skyrim first and foremost. Rikke is not caught up in glory and mythos, she has to do what's right for the people.
Delphine has been in hiding for decades, her order fallen and now the Empire bowing to the Thalmor. Sure, she is confused about many things, believing them to initially be behind the Dragon Crisis and then demanding the Dragonborn kill Paartharnax due to his past crimes. Atonement doesn't matter, she cannot change so it appears as though no one else could. And it makes sense, she clinges to the glorious past of the Blades because what else there is to cling to?
I want to see them clash, maybe they had a thing during the war. Then they run into each other decades later and with the Dragon Crisis, Civil War, and Thalmor presence and they fight! They're not on opposing sides but just coming at things from different angles, witnessing the differing paths they took, Delphine forced into this one.
And they they fuck nasty <3
