George W. Bush has purchased over 100,000 acres of land in Chaco, Paraguay, near the Bolivian/Brazilian border. The land sits atop huge natural gas reserves. The Bush land is close to a new U.S. military installation, the Mariscal Estigarribia Air Base. It is also nearby a huge tract of land purchased by Sun Myung Moon. Moon bought 1,482,600 acres (600,000 hectares) of land in the same place: Chaco, Paraguay. Moon’s land sits atop Latin America’s largest water aquifer, the Guarani aquifer. This area is the so-called triple border, where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet along both sides of the Parana River. The area is the locus for smuggling drugs and guns, money laundering, commerce in child prostitutes, counterfeit operations, and fixing of illegal border crossing.

U.S. Special Forces began arriving at Paraguay’s Mariscal Estigarriba Air Base, a sprawling complex built during the reign of dictator Alfred Stroessner. Sun Myung Moon cooperated closely with Stroessner through WACL by killing and torturing leftist and liberal people in opposition. The American air base harbored thousands of mercenaries and hundreds of U.S. troops. The reason for all this American activity was the U.S. interest in natural gas deposits across the border in Bolivia. The U.S. and the Bush and Moon families want to privatize the gas and oil and fresh water reserves. A major focus of the unrest in Bolivia is who controls its vast natural gas deposits, the second largest in the western Hemisphere. Under pressure from the United States and the IMF, Bolivia sold off its oil and gas to Enron and Shell in 1995 for $ 263,5 million, less than 1% of what the deposits are worth. Now the U.S. troops sent to Paraguay, and complete with immunity from criminal prosecution, protect the millions of acres of Paraguayan water and gas resources bought by Sun Myung Moon and the Bush family.
