I am left-handed, and the only member of my immediate family who is. There is only one other member of my extended family who shares this trait with me, my mom’s brother. I write, eat, play sports, and wield weapons with my left hand. However, when I learned to play the drums, I did so in a configuration that favors the right hand, but also favors the left foot. When I get deep into polyrhythmic beats, I’m told it can be dizzying to watch because limbs are moving in unexpected ways, and I have to work on not thinking too hard about it because otherwise there will come a moment I realize I’m playing cross-wired and I’ll lose my place while trying to correct it when I’m not even doing anything wrong.
