June 2022: An Aster

One of the asters that we overwintered in our micro-greenhouse has finally blossomed:

This is a good Gewurztraminer. It has a nice floral finish & not too sweet: 

My queen oven roasted the chicken wings & cooked the broccoli. I handled prepping the salad (romaine, arugula, microgreens & a dusting of parmigiano reggiano) & cooking the jasmine rice. The best advice I’ve ever gotten about cooking rice was from watching Jo Koy talk about his mom teaching him how to cook rice in a comedy special. This is how the producer describes it: “Fruit for this wine was sourced from our Joseph Soler Vineyard situated in Hawkes Bay. The vineyard has operated on organic principles since 2001, and Joseph Soler now has 21 hectares certified as organic by BioGro New Zealand. Rather than relying on herbicides or pesticides, this vineyard is managed with a focus on enhancing soil vitality to grow healthy and balanced grapes”. I found a bright, clear medium intensity lemon color wine with some tears on the glass. Clean on the nose with medium+ intensity of aromas suggesting of elderflower, vanilla, grapefruit, ripe pear, peach, rose, and orange zest. Fully developed. Off-dry on the palate with medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium body and medium+ flavor intensity displaying honeysuckle, peach, banana, butter, wet stones, lime, melon and elderflower. Medium+ length with sweet fruit aftertaste. Oily texture. Very good quality wine with balance between the well-defined fruit and the zesty acidity, good fruit concentration and complexity and medium+ length. Good to drink now, could easily last 3-5 more years due to structure and acidity. Great to enjoy with Korean dishes. Thank you!
