Spring in Melbourne
We’ve recently passed the Spring Equinox. In a Gaulish paradigm, this is when the samos aspect of the year finally overcomes the giamos aspect – and I must say this change is extremely obvious here in my part of Melbourne. Finally it’s warming up. The sun is bright. Even the air feels lighter and richer. I myself feel like I can breathe again, after what’s been an oppressive winter in many…

Revised prayer to Ðirona
Starkindler, bubbling font! Hail!
Asteriá, moon! Hail, Hail
Glimmering Lady, I beseech
I, humbly, whom You have called to
I, having given art, praise
Do now call, Shinning One
Hear me, threefold Queen
Cosmic spring
Above and below
The waters of the Sky black mirror
Dumnos, Albios
Unbecoming, remaking, becoming
Adder and egg
Regina Caeli, Fontis Stella
Ueronados and Anderandos
Giamos and Samos
Both are mirrored in you
Tumblr media
Praise unceasing unto the Queen
Within you the mysteries found
As stars to your brow are bound

I read the "no more live action remakes of cartoons!" post days ago and now all I can think of is: but what if Invader Zim horror sci-fi live action? 👀 (tho it would need a lot of cgi anyways). Tim Burton or Giamo Del Toro style

'Frozen' is the movie that got me into fanfiction, so I feel it's only fitting to mark the day with a (short, sweet, kind of silly) fic. To all who venture to click, I hope you enjoy!
And I just want to say the biggest 'Thank You' to Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck, the Lopezes, Michael Giamo, Wayne Unten, John Ripa, Brittney Lee, Lisa Keane, Becky Bresee, and all the other incredibly talented men and women who brought Frozen to life. For ten years, this movie has brought me so much joy and inspiration and ✨magic,✨ and for that I am forever grateful.
Happy 10 everyone! 💙

Since I was traveling on Michaelmas Day proper, I ended up celebrating on Old Michaelmas Day this year. The celebrations were spread over two evenings with feasting and fun on night one, and sacrifice (followed by spooky movies with my partner) on night two.
For our feasting, I was finally able to get around to my @portersposse Michaelmas cooking. My oven is currently out, but thankfully the cider chicken with mushrooms is made on the stove. It was delicious and I am absolutely going to make it again. The sweetness of the apple cider pairs perfectly with the savory chicken and mushrooms, making it a delight to eat. My only changes to the recipe were to add a bit of cumin (which in fairness I add to almost everything), and to omit the cooked apple slices. While I'm sure they would be tasty, I was not in the mood to core and slice apples. Some other time!

The following night, the sacred fire was lit, and summer was given an appropriate farewell. The Harvest King - the God who lives, dies, and lives again - was ritually sacrificed, his death the final gift. Now we wait for the coming of An Cailleach, who will ascend at Samhain as the cycles shift from Samos to Giamos. We await her with anticipation.

I hope that anyone who does something to mark this time of year enjoyed their celebrations, and that everyone's preparations for winter are going well!

Te prometo que después de mi,
intentarás encontrarme
en otros cuerpos,
en otros labios, en otra carne,
en el mar y en la arena
y en otros lugares oscuros
dónde jamas pensaste profanar el amor,
y no me encontrarás.
hacer cosas nuevas no te sabrán igual

Independent Excursion #2 - Hiroshima
On May 31, two of my friends and I went to Hiroshima. We took the Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Hiroshima Station, and the journey was about two hours long. We took a streetcar and then walked a little to reach our first stop, the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall. There we sat down to watch a video at a special exhibition dedicated to the child soldiers who were selected and trained to be suicide bombers using a Maru-Re, a motorboat. The video was based on these soldiers’ first-hand experiences as they did not ever go through a suicide attack, but instead the atomic bomb of Hiroshima in 1945. We heard their accounts of providing aid in the cities and their various duties including organizing survivors and gathering and burning the bodies of the deceased. Most importantly, we heard their perspectives and emotions surrounding death, demolition, and loss on that day. After the video concluded, we walked down a sloped ramp to the Hall of Rememberance. Along the right wall of the slope, we read panels explaining the basic facts surrounding the bombing at Hiroshima: the historical context leading up to it and the damage caused after. The hall itself is constructed based off a 360-degree panoramic image of Hiroshima after the bombing. The wall is made up of tiles that represent each estimated death during 1945. There is a small central monument that is angled to represent the time of the bombing, 8:15 AM, and there is a small amount water surrounding the monument to represent the victims who passed away without having water. In the video we watched, we learned that the child soldiers and others present at Hiroshima on August 6 were not permitted to give water to anyone severely impacted by the bombing. At the National Peace Memorial Hall, there was a fountain of water next to the staircase you take down to the entrance, and when we arrived, I wondered it if had any significance. After my time inside the hall, I learned how integral the symbol of water is for the events at Hiroshima.
Next, we went outside to see the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The first thing we saw was the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims. It is a tomb that arches over a stone chest holding the names of those who died because of the atomic bomb. The tomb is engraved in Japanese with the phrase, “Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil.” Through the arch of the tomb, you can see the Flame of Peace and the A-Bomb Dome. The Flame of Peace is a sculpture that represents two hands facing upward to the sky begging for two things: water and the abolition of nuclear weapons. The flame was lit in 1964 and was lit with the goal of burning until no nuclear weapons exist on Earth any longer. The A-Bomb Dome is one of the few buildings that remains standing post-August 6th. We did not go up close to this building, but we were able to see it from the Cenotaph as well as on our walk from the streetcar stop to the Memorial Hall.
Lastly, we went to the Peace Memorial Museum. It mainly focused on the direct impacts of the bomb on Japan and the people of Hiroshima. It had many graphic images and artifacts along with the stories of each item. Something that surprised me was how the museum mainly focused on these impacts rather than an in-depth history of the context leading up to the bombing. I was also surprised at how many young schoolchildren were at this museum, considering how graphic it was and potentially traumatizing; I saw a group of schoolgirls comforting a student who was crying.

Reflection:
In “The Myth of the Vanquished: The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum” by Benedict Giamo, Giamo writes about how Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Museum manipulates the narrative and perspectives surrounding Japan’s actions during World War II by emphasizing the impact and importance of the atomic bomb dropped on August 6, 1945. I realized this through reflecting on my own experience in the memorial museum and memorial hall; I noticed a lack of blame or responsibility for any of the parties involved in Hiroshima. Instead of focusing on the historical context behind the bombing of Hiroshima, I noticed that it instead focused on the victimization of the Japanese people and the horrors they experienced on that day and through the end of 1945. Throughout the museum and the Peace Park, I saw a lot of imagery and sayings relating to the necessity for an end to nuclear warfare. The museum also seemed to hyper focus on the impact of Hiroshima on Japanese civilians as victims to disease, death, and loss through its exhibitions. The museum exhibitions displayed articles that victims of Hiroshima wore, owned, and/or used. It also detailed many victims’ stories and the details of their lives before and after Hiroshima. I was shocked that the museum exhibit focused a lot on children and their hardships. I was surprised to find this selective narrative that was expressed because throughout our class, we have seen that Japan compared to the United States has a weaker sense of nationalism. Therefore, I was expecting a more objective and informational approach to the museum’s contents.
