Had to share the amazing double feature poster included in the booklet for the amazing new Blu-ray of The Giant Gila Monster and The Killer Shrews from Film Masters.
(Got it from the amazing DiabolikDVD, of course)
This poster makes them look like a true kaiju horror epic and now I want a print of it to hang on my wall.
I can hardly wait to watch the movies in HD, too!

Okay but the real question is: what would the City Watch characters look like in the Redwall universe?
I would think that they would be all different species, ranging from goodbeasts to vermin. Like, Carrot Ironfounderson would be a Badger or a Mouse, because he's such a Prince/Ruler Destiny lad. Vetinari would probably be a Cat or a Fox, something like the Greeneyes family, significantly more benevolent of course, but still a tyrant. Fred Colon would be an Otter or Hedgehog or smth, Nobby would be a Shrew or a Rat etc.
Surprisingly, I can't really place Sam Vimes. At first I thought he would be a Mouse, but now I'm thinking maybe a Rat? Or a Hare even? Idk
Let me here your suggestion fam

Popular Locations Wednesday
Madrid’s Edificio Montano
This building was constructed in the 19th for the Vicente Montano Piano factory, housing a factory floor, several apartments, and a concert hall. It was taken over by the School of Industrial Technicians after the Spanish Civil War, and later the Women's Professional Training Institute and the shop Rústika. It has been largely unoccupied since 2014.
The building can be seen above in Malasaña 32, Line Walker 2: Invisible Spy, Shrew's Nest, In from the Cold, May God Save Us, No culpes al karma de lo que te pasa por gilipollas, and Giants.
It can also be found in Estoy vivo and Soulmates.

If you’re in the mood to drop bug knowledge, I’m sure Tumblr would enjoy an explanation for the jumping venomous “camelback spiders” that conservative social media is convinced have been attacking our brave soldiers
lol, again?! I remember this also happening when America invaded iraq back in like 2003. I think the name "camel spider" was even first coined then; in books the only common names I knew them under before then was "sun spider" and "wind scorpion," both of which are much cooler as well as more appropriate for something that runs as fast as the wind in bright, sunny places. But they do "chase" people in order to try and cool off in our shadows, leading to the belief that they're aggressive, and basically all the terror of them started because soldiers made up stories about them just to scare younger newer recruits as a prank, insisting that they're venomous or parasitic or that they'll chew your nose off while you sleep.
Tumblr media
I think their tiny close-set black eyes and giant fat mouthparts give them an adorable sweet dopey face, though from the side it becomes sick and rad:
Tumblr media
They can bite very hard and easily draw blood if you upset them, but they want to be left alone. Their jaws are only so big and strong because they're the arachnid version of a shrew: a fast-moving high energy predator adapted to quickly take down and devour everything else it comes across up to a couple times larger than itself, like lizards and centipedes!
They call this kind a teddy bear solifugid:

What Is and Isn't a Fish: a List
A list of the animals I discussed in my fish essay, but for those who don't want to scroll through paragraphs of text to find out if an animal is or isn't a fish. Just CTRL+F your way through here!
I'll add onto here more animals whenever I get asked about them being fish. See my fish essay here!
Some notes before you proceed:
Yes, all tetrapods are fish! We are phylogenetically fish, as we are and our ancestors were lobe-finned fish! "Fish" in the phylogenetic sense is a paraphyletic group if you try to exclude tetrapods, so it is frankly impossible.
How come tetrapods aren't listed as fish then? Long answer, read my essay. Short answer, me and other fish accounts tend to operate on the morphological definition of fish, so does most of the world. Here I use the morphological definition of "fish".

I'll be taking time with this project but I wanted to clean up the first line as soon as I could and I can't help but be proud of my little shrew druid. I think I learned a lot from my previous region style wise, I hope you like it !
#001 Shroob | Grass Type The shrew Pokemon
Sweet and friendly, Shroob is the best starter for inexperience trainers. They are eager to please by digging holes around them, waiting for you to praise them, inadvertently causing trouble without meaning to. #002 Sporibloom | Grass\Normal Type   The Mycelium Pokemon
Gentle in nature, this evolution is very calm and lives in the moment, the fruiting body on top of his head spread a calming spore that helps people and pokemon to sleep.
#003 Morigloom | Grass\Normal Type   The Druid Pokemon
This sweet giant can communicate with the vegetation around him, it is said that wild Morigloom, helps maintaining the ecosystems of the many forest within the Kehbek region. it's spore has healing properties.

Weretober 2023 - Part 2: Lives of the Werebeasts of Urvara
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now, to cap off Weretober 2023, the final batch exploring the lives of Werefolk in my setting of Beast Fables. From assassins to soldiers to ronin to nasty diseases, there are many sides to being a werebeast in Urvara!
A famous Were-Tarantula Hawk assassin readies for combat against a berserker were-shrew.
A were-sea lion stumbles upon a rare find: a black pearl! Surely this will give her clan honor! Unbenkowest to her however, she is being watched by a couple of merfolk. The Mer-tiger shark wants to "deal" with her, to keep their society a secret, but the Mer-octopus urges caution instead.
For most people, a person's animal form is either from one parent or the other. In much rare cases however, one could get an animal form that's a hybrid of their parents's beast form! Walter Raja Surrey here is a Liger, and has all of the hybrid's advantages, without the myriad of health problems associated with them!
A member of the last group of Were-Diprotodons shows an archeology student and an art history student an example of a hunting boomerang, otherwise known as a karli. Alongside being both a great example of art and a useful tool, it's big enough to double as a club.
A werefox succumbs to that most feared of diseases among were-mammal kind, rabies. Certain were-folk, like werebirds can fight off the disease, while others like were-crocodilians seem to be immune to almost anything.
A were-rhinoceros beetle gets treated for cordyceps. While not the lethal, muscle and nervous system hijacker of their wild counterparts, it still hurts, and requires immediate attention, lest it begins to interfere with the magics governing transformation as well as tissue damage.
A traveling group of were-elephantines, including a mammoth. While giants to a regular person, they themselves are dwarfed by the creator of the roads they travel upon, called the Titan Roads. These roads were built by Were-sauropods.
A turbulent priest preaches the cause for justice, and the betterment of society as a whole. A priest of the Ten Faced God, he dons the silver and black to denote his devotion to the face of Justice.
A were-raccoon dog ronin thought his speed and agility would win the day against the lumbering were-eremotherium, who himself is in service of a large empire known as Tartessos (basically Not!Spain). The risk the ronin took was calculated, but BOY was he BAD at math!
And finally, the classic Werewolf. A Durroyan werewolf charges with a bayonet, steely determination in his eyes and faith that discipline will win the battle through. A Gevaudanois werewolf counter charges with tooth, claw and sabre in hand, confident that courage and ferocity will win the day.

Drew some creatures that live in a semi-living-semi-decaying-petrifying dungeon! Setting: Carcass Dungeon is a giant petrifying creature with an interior resembling that of a typical dungeon, albeit more flesh based. There are boney spire forests, caves of fat and lakes of blood, surrounded by muscular stone-flesh and riddled with arterial hallways. The deeper you go, the fleshier it becomes. Deeper down also has more mana which equates to weirder animals.
Bonus design tidbits:
The wolf mole I took traits of a star nosed mole, golden sand shrew, wolf and orca teeth! For the bore worm I mostly based it off of a normal earth worm but also added the ring hooks of a tape worm and a flattened tail of a sea snake. Blood weevil was a weevil and a honeypot ant. Cave troll was a proboscis monkey, elephant seal, gorilla’s stance, bear feet and ant eater claws.
The Skitterer was the first doodle that launched this idea and while more whimsical, I included it here to show were I got the idea from.

Spectember D21: Parasitism of any sort
Tumblr media
In 100 million years hence the Bengal swamp sort of host different new groups of animals, a lot happened since the mass extinction caused by a large asteroid at the beginning of the recovering period just 5 million years after the age of humanity, and since then it was a 0 for many groups, mammals barely are a diverse group anymore, with shrew like forms found in the rocky regions of the north and some other few minuscule species living along isolated continents, being now succeeded in diversity and megafauna with an amalgamation of squamates, birds and impressively turtles have taken the upper hand and became the dominant groups around the globe. The land is reign by the diverse descendants of softshell turtles, being many gigantic reaching on the leagues of sauropods, but at the same time in the other sides they diversified in many other niches like semiaquatic or even heavy land carnivores, some slow marine sirenian like forms, and from all the big and middle size some unique and strange small species adapted as a parasitic animal.
The Smooth Mite Achelone (Acarochelis nychosarchus) is among the smallest species of turtles alive reaching up 4 cm in length, when they are capable, they would attach to the giant behemoths that travel across the swamp, they properly do not look like any recognizable turtle species, instead they looks like disproportionately big headed critters with strange long and wide hands with extremely long claws, their jaws anatomy has distorted to accommodate its mouth on the bottom so they are always facing towards the skin, which with their strong derived lips they dig through the robust skin of their large hosts until they reach the blood vessels and start sucking blood and even lipids if they attach in the right spot. Their bodies are reduced, forelimbs are hypertrophied with disk like pads used to attach to their host along with their claws, up to the tail the cloaca seems to have elongated slightly, this due to the derivation of one of the rectal walls turned into a pseudo gill structure which provides of oxygen into the water, which is very useful when their large host stands for a good time into the deep rivers.

For any Shakespeare nerds who are planning to see Macbeth and catch a play at the Globe Theatre while in London, the Globe only runs shows through the end of October (since it is outdoors and it gets cold). Standing section tickets are really reasonable (5-10 pounds)! Taming of the Shrew and Comedy of Errors are both running in October.
For those interested, Ben Whishaw’s Waiting for Godot is also running at the same time as Macbeth (October to Mid December).
Sharing my research with the peanut gallery in case it is useful!
THANK YOU! I’ll be seeing that Waiting for Godot but good reminder that there’s always fun stuff at the globe.
Other plays I have my eye on for those who are interested: Armando Iannucci dr Strangelove, mark strong oedipus, and john lithgow giant. I will also be desperately hoping there’s something good on at the bush theatre, @sohoplace and maybe donmar because believe it or not I am not happy that everything I just named is centered on a white male lead.
