I remember the days when the sun shone sweetly on fields of long golden grass, when it would peek through the leaves of trees and lay gently dappled kisses on the earth.

I remember when fires hardened the pottery made by masterful hands so carefully, when it would cook the food that nourished our bodies.

I remember laying in the cold mountain streams, peacefully letting the water flow around me.

I remember the day it all changed. I remember watching the clouds swirl in the sky as if it were any other storm, but no matter how long I waited or how far I went the darkness remained.

I remember the first person to leave for the Isle, to see what was going on. I remember every person seeking out an answer for this seemingly eternal storm.

I remember being alone when none of them came back. I remember the ache of waiting, the hope and the dread that plagued me.

So then I left.

I remembered the sweetness of life, the joy of wandering a path only I could choose, the path only I could know. The bitterness that followed the arrival of the storm, I will not forget it, because all that I knew was gone.

I will go as far as I must, I will travel as far as my legs will carry me. I must end this darkness, so someone can remember the wonder of wandering a path all their own someday.

I go, for a future that remains ever sweet, and beautifully pathless.
