Okay, so I always see stuff on how Thomas and Minho barely had a relationship in the movies but while the difference between Thomas & Minho’s friendship in the books and Thomas & Minho’s friendship in the movies is criminal, there’s several instances that indicate their close blond eg them constantly pushing the other in front - one specific scene that comes to mind is when they both try to shove the other first at the same time (see gif) which ironically delays them by like, a split second.

Throughout the movies, Minho is sorta the only one that never questioned Thomas or made him feel he made the wrong call. Sure, at the start of scorch trials, he dryly joked about the validity of Thomas’ source -Aris- (”well..I’m sold”) but he wasn’t exasperated with him and he didn’t try to invalidate his concerns in an effort to extend the illusion of being safe ( unlike mr “some of us a lot longer than others” newt) because he knew that all Thomas wanted was for them to be away from WCKD and he trusted Thomas. Another example was when they were standing atop that sand hill, looking at the mountains. Newt says “theyre a long way off.” and Minho quips back with something along the lines of “better get moving.”. He’s never made Thomas doubt himself, even unintentionally.

Also, it was Thomas Minho chose to divulge his worry about not “ending up like the kids [they] left back there”, Thomas he unwaveringly supported despite discovering the guy didn’t even have a plan except follow-the-mountains whilst leading them half-cocked into a desert with no food or water - might I add again, unlike Newt (”well, we followed you out here Thomas!”)

Love Newt, I really do, but Thomas & Minho’s relationship, even in the movies, as watered down as it was, has a much deeper perspective for me. Wes Ball had Minho wake up Thomas in the helicopter in the beginning of tst, he had Minho watch Thomas be led away by the guard with narrowed eyes, Minho to get up from his seat and lead Thomas back to their table. And of course, oppositely, it was Thomas who stood up amidst his downtrodden friends, and rows of dead bodies, saying he was going to get Minho back, regardless if they came or not, and destroy WCKD while he was at it. I mean, he didn’t even let Newt’s - who had known Minho much longer than Thomas - hopelessness deter him. And even after the train plan failed, I rarely see anyone talk about how Thomas was prepared to sacrifice the safe haven and freedom from WCKD in favour of going alone (see: sneaking out at midnight) on a barely-formed plan to try to rescue Minho.

So yeah, after reading the books, their relationship looked incredibly lacklustre in the movies but after some closer examination, it’s clear Wes Ball didn’t abandon it all together - rather just.. made it more unspoken, which - fair enough, considering the duration of the movie and all that film stuff. In a way, its subtlety provides an interesting alternative to their relationship in the books, almost like an AU of what they would’ve been like, had they not had the chance to talk and develop as much.
