This is a Smooth newt/mindre vattensalamander, pictured during the aquatic breeding season. Males develop a continuous skin crest that runs along the back and tail—one of the many things that make them so fascinating. They live in the pond in my garden, and I love having them around. It’s almost like having my own dragons! Värmland, Sweden (June 1, 2025).
