On my HC, Glasses Flo is apprenticed to Gliz and taught sports competitions. And Glasses Flo was also mentored by Gliz in terms of special abilities, as a result of which Glasses Flo acquired the special ability to handle icicles rapier swords. Incidentally, Gliz's special ability is the ability to handle a giant ice block sword.

But Lupin is a phantasm.

aka,, I love symbolism. Very much. You'll see me research things like Victorian flower language or the history of zeppelins for YCmS for little scenes only for most of my research to never make it into the main body of the fic bc of workflow. And Arsene's such a beautiful dichotomy of a character; he appears energetic and gung-ho and boisterous most of the time, but when you peel away the public perception of him, there's an inherently melancholy character left behind. And interestingly enough, it is the inverse with Ren/Joker -- he's melancholy to the public, but a spitfire and full of life and energy when in private (the metaverse). I love it. It's probably my absolute favorite character trait to have...

Heavily inspired by this one Goodreads comment: But Lupin,[...] is a phantasm. The only times he really exists is when he takes on a different identity in order to mingle with true people in the real world. The rest of the time, when he acts as what he really is--the criminal mastermind--he is only an idea, a name. He knows of this paradoxical incorporeality of his, too: and he both revels in it and is saddened by it. This combination of euphoria and melancholy proves irresistible for the reader, or at least it did in my case.

And an actual quote somewhere in the first(?) novel: “His portrait? How could I describe him? Twenty times I have seen Arsene Lupin, and twenty times a different person has appeared to me …or rather, the same person from which twenty mirrors would have returned as many distorted images, each one having its own particular look, its own unique shape, its own gesture, its own silhouette and character.”

also one of my fave lil fun facts is that in the german version of w.icked (both musical & movie) sh.iz is actually renamed to gliz bc otherwise it sounds too much like a colloquial word for shit dhddnjsksksks
