The animals aren't thrilled with me. I've been suffering for days from an accidental gluten ingestion and haven't payed much attention to them. I've been getting this face a lot. Good news is I've lost 2 pounds in 4 days! It puts my total weight loss at 12 pounds! But more about that some other time. #glutenfree #glutensucks #imightbedying #cats #tesla #angrycat #grumpycat

More testing with my @nimasensor The calzones were really yummy! The chicken skewers are convenient protein. The random "kid" food was from my daughter and her friends over the weekend. I might have eaten a few lucky charms... brought me back to my grandparents house in memory. #nostalgic #nimatested #glutenfree #senzagluten #sansgluten #celiac #celiacdisease #celiaclife #glutensucks #easyfood

Gluttons of a Gluten free goddesss
I’ve finally decided to do a blog post on the life of a gluten-free girl in 2015, England. To those who ask me what gluten is daily, it’s time to crawl out from under your rocks and get educated on the devil that is among us -gluten- and what it’s like to be gluten free. Apologise in advance if I get heated/irritated/darn right angry during this post. You have been warned.
So what is Gluten exactly?
Gluten is lurking in almost all processed food products found in your everyday supermarket. Put simply, it is in the grains wheat, barley, rye, and a couple others I can’t remember. Just to be safe, I avoid almost all baked products, cakes, pastries, cookies, breads etc.... Gluten is most abundant in wheat but rice, corn, and most oats are okay. Gluten has no nutritional value but helps to bind together baked goods in the baking process. It’s thick, slimy, gooey, and gross.
So, what’s so bad about Gluten? Everyone is eating it..
Gluten is deadly at worst, and bad at best. Meaning, it can actually kill some people who have severe allergic or immune responses to it. The auto-immune disease Celiac disease is when a person’s immune system wrongly destroys the Villi of the gut (finger like growths that absorb nutrients), whenever Gluten is ingested. Over time this leads to malabsorption, malnutrition and eventually osteoporosis, deficiencies, anemia, stunted growth and even cancer. As much as 1 in 100 people have the disease, many without realising. The implications of continuing to eat Gluten when suffering from Celiac disease can prove fatal in worst case scenarios. The only cure is to completely eliminate Gluten; an exposure to Gluten can trigger off severe stomach pains, bloating, stool irregularities and other symptoms like headaches, joint pain, rashes, and flu-like symptoms.
Then, you have Gluten intolerance. That is different from Celiac, and less serious. There is a whole spectrum of people who fall somewhere on the intolerance scale. Some people may just bloat and feel a bit “sleepy” after ingesting the stuff. Others may suffer full blown headaches, cramping, break-outs etc... “IBS” symptoms are often linked to Gluten. As uch as 30% of the population have an intolerance. Yes, that’s 3 out of 10!! Gluten promotes inflammation, and is difficult for the gut to process. It creates by-products in the body which are hard for the body to remove. Even for just “regular” people, many find a positive improvement to their health after ditching the evil G. Whether it be better skin, improved mood, weight loss or fewer headaches, getting that stuff out of your life can never be a bad thing.
So, that is Gluten. It is probably secretly responsible for many “invisible health problems” in the general public. You know when you go to the doctors, and they can’t find anything but you know something just isn’t right? Gluten may well be behind your issue. Sadly there is just so much ignorance. It amazes me daily that many people still don’t even know what they’re eating on a daily basis.
If I were Prime Minister:
1. Gluten would be banned
Like lead from petrol, Gluten will have had its day. People could still eat cakes and cookies, don’t worry. They would just have to be made from Gluten free flour. Gluten free alternatives are notoriously unsatisfying, but they would become so common that people wouldn’t even know the difference. Then G-free-ers like me wouldn’t have to constantly cherry pick through aisles and piles of gluten packed gluttons to find something suitable.
2. Pret would make more Gluten free food
I love Pret,  really do. Their food is overpriced, but so tasty that I don’t really care. Sadly, out of all places you would expect to have great Gluten free offerings, they don’t. I think they make one Gluten free brownie and that’s about it. Even Costa manages that...
3. People who don’t know what Gluten is will be shot
Joking! But, seriously, that crap’s getting old now. Read a book or something.
4. Gluten would be seen as bad as sugar
In terms of health impact, it is probably as bad for you as sugar. Think of all the money the NHS would save if people knew the truth.
5. “It’s just a fad, you need Gluten to be healthy”
See point 1. The myth that Gluten should be incorporated as part of a normal diet will be done away with. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
6. People would enjoy the real benefits of Gluten free
I had bad skin all my life. I still don’t have great skin, but it’s a hell of a lot better than before when I was guzzling down the gluten. Now if I eat a cake or sandwich, I can often find a burgeoning pimple or three appearing somewhere on my face in the next hour or so. No word of lie! My gut problems are also vastly improved now I’m clean, no more unexplained bloating or trips to the loo. I’m just so glad I went clean when I did, and I wish other people could experience the benefits too.
Ryan Gosling says: “Do away with the Devil G.” Nothing is sexier than a guy who respects your Gluten hating sensitivities when on a date...
