Hedorah - also known as the “Smog Monster” is an alien pollution kaiju that arrived to earth on a comet. It grew from a large tadpole to a hulking beast by feeding on humanity’s pollution. It made it’s first debut in 1971′s “Godzilla vs. Hedorah”.

I recently watched 1971’s Godzilla vs. Hedorah (ゴジラ対ヘドラ), and this is what I wrote about it initially:

This film is really something. I’ve not seen any other kaiju movies like it.

First of all, it’s actually violent and reasonably scary, which was pretty exciting. It was also pretty surrealistic with a lot of bizarre sequences, including musical numbers and animated sequences.

There’s a lot here for me, though it retains that characteristically lumbering kaiju movie pacing that ultimately isn’t my favorite.

Honestly, though, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this movie. It really is so unique. I think I’d really like to watch it again.

HEDORAH, 3-FIGURE SET (BANDAI S.H.MONSTERARTS)

What I'm about to say isn't much of a secret, but I love Godzilla vs. Hedorah. It's one of the weirdest and most watchable films in the franchise. It's been 51 years since this toxic alien has polluted cinemas, but I'm okay with that. I was incredibly pleased that Bandai would release an SH MonserArts figure of him, so you best believe I jumped at the chance to get him. He's not very posable (duh), but he looks the part. It's sturdy and comes with its underwater and flying forms. I love this figure and give it a passing grade.
