Whumptober 2023: 23 (uswnt)
No. 23: “It’s gonna get me by the end of the night.”
Shadows | Stalking | “Who’s there?”
It’s a Monday night when it first began. You were where you normally were on a Monday night, crashed on Preath’s sofa while eating take. It was your favorite tradition, and it was being interrupted by your phone buzzing constantly.
You groan dramatically, picking it up. Scrolling on your Lock Screen, you can see that they’re all notifications from Instagram. It wasn’t uncommon for you to get a rush of notifications, but it was unlikely that you would get one now- you hadn’t posted in a week.
Shaking your head, you look at them briefly. The first is letting you know that you have a new follower, the username a seemingly random array of letters and numbers. The dozens of notifications that follow are from likes and comments on your previous posts, including those from years ago. They’re all from the same account.
“Everything okay?” Christen asks.
Turning your phone off and tossing it to the other end of the cushion, you nod.
“Yeah, totally fine. It seems like someone just found my Instagram. Anyway, what movie are we watching?”
This restarts the heated discussion, all arguing in favor of your choice. You won.
—-
You forget about the sudden influx of notifications after you post a new photo and your entire feed becomes an influx of notifications. It seemed like a one off deal, nothing to worry about.
It’s not until you’re leaving practice one day that you remember it. As you’re exiting the building, your phone dings repeatedly. A half dozen Instagram notifications, all from the same account as before. They’re liking and commenting on a picture that you had posted from practice earlier that week. Understandable, you looked good in the picture.
Walking to your car, you notice a paper stuck under your windshield. Confused as to who was leaving flyers in the carpark, you grab it and toss it on your passenger seat with your kit bag.
You’re out of the parking lot and halfway home before you’re stopped at a light. Curious, you decide to look at the flyer. Unfolding the paper, you’re met with a print out of your Instagram from earlier that week.
An uneasy feeling settles in your stomach, and you move to a different lane of traffic. You were going to see Tobin and Christen.
—-
The women were worried about it, but it’s nothing that hasn't happened before. It’s a given that when your life is on display, people are going to watch and respond to it. It’s weird, but it’s something you’re adjusting to.
You join them for dinner anyway, staying after to talk until it becomes late enough that you decide to spend the night.
It was better that way.
—-
You decide to take a break from social media after this event, posting on your story to inform the fans. You just needed a few weeks to yourself to get your head back on straight, then you would be back.
You log out of the app after this, wanting to avoid all the notifications as everyone sees and responds to this. Your phone is quiet for the first time in awhile.
Later that afternoon, a call comes through from an unknown number. You answer it, a short greeting falling from your lips. The only response is silence. A few seconds later, you hear the beginning of an inhale before the line disconnects.
Blocking the number, you go about your day.
—-
You get a text later that week. You’re in Preath’s living room, having basically moved in recently. The three of you are all working separately together, laptop keys clicking. The chime of your phone breaks the monotony.
I’m sorry. Please don’t leave.
A text from an unknown number. You immediately show the phone to the two women, all of you deciding that this had gone on long enough and calling the police.
Officers arrive within the hour, questioning you about all of the events. They take your phone as evidence, and for this you are grateful. By the time you’re finished with everything, you’re ready for bed. You get ready quickly, creeping over to the door of Christen and Tobin’s room. Not even asking, you crawl into the middle of their bed.
—-
Logging into your laptop in the morning, you yawn as you check your email. Nothing that exciting- updates from the club, minor changes to a brand deal, countless emails from companies that somehow have your contact information.
You’ve almost cleared out your inbox when you notice one without a subject line. Opening it, you see minimal text.
I said I was sorry.
—-
It’s almost a month until the next time you have contact with this person. The silence had made you hopeful, hopeful that the police had caught the person. Hopeful that it had at least made them stop messaging you.
That last part was true, you were no longer receiving messages from this person. And, while you didn’t know it, the email you had received that sucked the air from your lungs would be the last you would receive from this person.
—-
After playing 90 minutes, you were exhausted. You never let this stop you from signing jerseys and taking pictures, though, and you start making a lap around the stadium. You’re almost finished, really only a few yards from the tunnel, when it happens.
A hand latched onto your wrist as you moved away after signing a poster. You try to tug it away, but the grip tightens.
Looking up, you’re met with an exceedingly average looking crowd. Until you lock eyes with one person and all of your blood drains to your feet. It’s him.
You’re frozen, unable to speak. People are laughing and shouting all around you, but it feels like the two of you are trapped in a bubble.
“Y/N,” he says, “I’ve missed you.”
“I- I- I don’t know you,” you say breathlessly.
“Don’t be silly,” he says, tightening his grasp, “of course you do. Remember, you signed my poster at the San Francisco game last year.”
You shake your head.
“Yes, you did. I told you my name, and you spelled it wrong on the poster. We laughed about it for ages. And, when you signed your name, you drew a heart. No one else got a heart, I checked. That was special, just for me. You remember that, don’t you?”
He hadn’t blinked the entire time he was talking. He was staring directly at you- directly into you- and you could feel it. You couldn’t look away, couldn’t pull yourself from his grasp. It’s the two of you, alone in a packed stadium.
“Don’t you remember?” he pries.
For whatever reason, you nod. It seems like it would be easier to agree with him.
“I do, I remember. We took a picture after that,” it was probably true, you took hundreds of pictures after games. You probably took one with him.
His grip relaxes slightly, eyes softening, “you do remember.”
You made the mistake of becoming confident here, going further with your lie, “it’s impossible not to remember you. What we had was special, that’s why I signed your jersey. I drew the heart so you would know you were special.”
The previously loosened grasp retightens, fingers clenching your wrist.
“No,” he shouts, anger evident, “no. You’re lying, you don’t remember.”
The man continues ranting, one arm flailing wildly as the other keeps a firm hold on you. You can’t look fully at him, directing your gaze to the seats behind him. Only a few seconds later, though, the grip dropped suddenly. You look up.
The man is now on the floor, pinned by a security guard as another puts handcuffs on him. Bystanders are watching, multiple phones out to film the scene.
You don’t care about that right now. Now that you’re free, your fight or flight is finally able to allow you to take the choice you want- flight. You turn towards the tunnel, and you see a comforting sight.
Your teammates are huddled, watching. Clearly, they had been aware of the situation. That’s not what matters though.
You see Christen and Tobin in front of the group, hurrying to you. Running, you meet them halfway. You crash into their embrace, sandwiching yourself between them to hide yourself. Finally, you let the tears fall.

Let you down (USWNT x Young!Reader)
This one was inspired by a song by a rap artist by the name of NF. Obviously I don’t own any part of the song in anyway shape or form.
Tumblr media
This one deals with Anxiety and Sadness and just overall not great emotions but it does have a happy ending. Also has squint and you’ll miss it Mal x reader. Mal is also younger to help fit the plot. Hope you enjoy. All mistakes are mine, Not edited.
“Feels like we're on the edge right now
I wish that I could say I'm proud
I'm sorry that I let you down
I let you down….”
“Please don't come after me
I just wanna be alone right now, I don't really wanna think at all
Go ahead, just drink it off
Both know you're gonna call tomorrow like nothing's wrong
Ain't that what you always do?
I feel like every time I talk to you
You're in an awful mood
What else can I offer you?
There's nothing left right now, I gave it all to you…”
Suddenly my earbud was ripped out of my ear cutting off the song i was listening to. “Hey! What the hell Mallory? I was listening to that!” I said angrily as I grabbed my earbud back from her and turned to walk away.
“Okay, woah, chill out dude I was just gonna ask you if you wanted to join the girls and I for lunch after practice…” She said pointing at the girl’s behind her who were watching us curiously. I sighed quietly, pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration, mostly at myself realizing I overreacted.
“No thank you. I’m sorry I snapped at you. Shouldn’t have.” I said softly before shoving my earbud back in my ear, walking away to the other side of the field, picking up a ball on the way and absentmindedly juggling it.
“What’s her deal?” Rose asked, face scrunched in confusion.
“No idea, all i did was take the earbud out of her ear to ask if she wanted to go to lunch with us and she snapped at me. She said no, which is fine but somethings wrong, I can tell.” Mal said
“that’s not like her at all, should I try and talk to her?” Christen asked popping up out of nowhere.
“You might be the right person to do that, not totally certain she seems pretty upset about something.” Mal said shrugging slightly
“I’ll give it my best shot.”
For the second time in 5 minutes my earbud was taken out of my ear cutting off the depressing music blasting out of it.
“Okay seriously, Mal if you don’t get away from me in the next 10 seconds I swear…” I trailed off as I turned to face who I thought was Mal but turned out to be Christen. “Oh s-sorry Chris I thought you were Mal. What’s up?”
“That’s okay, although your reaction when you thought I was her is a little concerning… Everything okay? Did she do something to upset you?”
“No, no, i’m sorry. She didn’t do anything, not really anyways, I’m just irritable right now.”
“What’s going on?”
“I’m just really lost in my head I guess.” I shrugged absentmindedly as I sat on the bench and changed into my slides.
“Lost in your head about what, love?” Chris asked as she moved to sit next to me, resting her hand on my knee.
“It’s nothing, it’s stupid Pressy don’t worry about it.” I said, shooting up and jogging away.
“Something is definitely up with that kid. Time to gather the vets and do some gentle prodding.”
I quietly made my way onto the bus and went all the way to that back, curling up into a seat turning to face the window so my teammates knew to leave me alone. My phone dinged and I already knew I wasn’t going to like what I read.
“You think you’re some big shot now that you made it to the national team? You know it’ll only be a matter of time before you crash and burn. Come home before you embarrass me on national television.”
It was a text from my father. He’d never been the most supportive of my dreams and my current career. These last few days however he’s been more… aggressive with his words. I don’t know why or what I did but he’s been telling me I’ll only be an embarrassment to him and my step mother. That he doesn’t need his friends asking questions when I inevitably fail. His words not mine. I haven’t told the girls anything about what he’s saying because i don’t want them to do something rash, like get on a plane and fly over and beat his ass which is something they’re not above doing. I let out a quiet sigh shoving my phone in my bag before closing my eyes and attempting to sleep.
Team Veteran’s POVs//
“Okay what’s with the kid?” Alex asked staring at our youngest teammate in concern
“She’s 18, you know?” Mal said cutting into our conversation. Megan shot her a sharp look and she went back to watching ATLA (pls tell me y'all know what that acronym stands for…) eating her mandatory after practice goldfish and drinking a juice box Tobin gave her.
“Doesn’t matter she’s still the youngest on this team so by default she’s still a kid to us.”
“That’s lame.”
“Mallory…”
“What?”
“First of all, you just turned 19 like 2 seconds ago so you’re also still a kid and secondly don’t eavesdrop on other people’s conversations, it’s rude.”
“I wasn’t eavesdropping, you guys are all sitting together in front of me, it’s kind of hard not to hear what you’re saying.”
“Just put your earbuds in and pay attention to your show please.”
“Chris come on, she’s my best friend I- ”
“Mallory Diane do as I say please.”
“Okay jeeze, no need to use my government name.” She said rolling her eyes at me. I pinched the bridge of my nose and breathed in deeply to stop myself from correcting her.
“As you were saying?”
“Well she’s just acting odd, when was the last time she was like this?”
“I can’t even remember it’s been a long time.”
“What should we do?” Kelley asked reaching over into Mal’s bag of goldfish, taking a healthy handful, much to her dismay.
“Hey!” Mal slapped her hand hard enough for it to echo throughout the bus, causing everyone to look over at us in surprise, Kelley jerked her hand away, holding it like she’d been shot.
“Mallory Pugh! We do not hit people. Say you’re sorry right now.”
“Sorry Kel. I should’ve just used my words. Please don’t take my goldfish.” She said quietly.
“Thanks squirt, I accept your apology. I’m sorry too, I should’ve asked first.”
“lt’s okay, I accept your apology.”
“Good job using your words babe.” I said ruffling her hair slightly.
Once we were sure Mal was settled again we went back to our previous discussion.
“I say we just let her come to us when she’s ready, you know how she is when people push too hard.”
“I agree.”
“Usually I would agree but they way she snapped at Mal earlier tells me she’s about half a step away from either actually hitting someone or putting a hole in the wall.”
“That’s a little dramatic don’t you think?”
“When has she ever snapped at Mal, Ali?”
“Good point.”
“We still haven’t answered the question of what we’re going to do though.”
“I say we just be straight forward and honest, let her know we’re worried and that we’d like to talk to her and see if she’ll open up and tell us what’s going on.”
“Won’t that send her running for the hills?”
“Not if we don’t give her the opportunity to run.” Alex said getting a mischievous look in her eye.
“Oh no, I know that look, what do you have up your sleeve Al?”
“You’ll see” She said leaning over and whispering whatever it was she was thinking to Becky, who hummed in agreement.
After another hour we finally made it back to the hotel, got roommate assignments and got settled for the night. All the veterans on the team hung back after everyone else had left to go to bed, leaving just Alex, Tobin, Christen, Ali, Julie, Becky, Crystal, Kelley, And Alyssa in the Lobby.
“Okay Cap what’s the plan?” Tobin asked.
“The plan is we’re all going to Alex and Kelley’s room, to wait for the kid. We gave Mal a note to leave on her bed and told her to go hang out in someone else’s room so when she’s not there, she’ll have to go looking for her, and when she passes by the room we’ll grab her and lock her in with us until we get some answers about what’s going on.” Becky said, as we all huddled together and talked in hushed tones.
“So we’re kidnapping her?”
“Not kidnapping… more like, trapping out of love and concern.”
“Right… it still sounds a lot like kidnapping to me.”
“Just follow our lead.”
“Whatever you say, cap.”
We all went up to the room and waited anxiously to see if our plan would work. It only took about 10 minutes to receive our answer. A quiet knock on the door startled almost everyone in the room.
“I got it” Alex said getting up and padding over to the door.
“Hey little Lamb what’s up?” We heard her say.
“Uh… have you seen Mal anywhere?”
“No, I haven’t why?”
“It’s just we’re rooming together and she always waits for me to come up before she goes anywhere.”
“Hmm, I don’t know kid, sorry.”
“Oh okay, that’s okay, i’ll get out of your hair sorry to bother you.”
“You didn’t bother me it’s no problem.”
“Goodni-” She began to say but it was cut off when Alex quite literally grabbed her and yanked her inside, the force of which sent her stumbling forward into the room falling slightly. Alex quickly closed the door and locked it while she wasn’t looking.
“Alex, what the hell is wrong with you?”
“Hey, language.”
It was then that the young striker turned to look at who said that and saw all of us sitting on the beds.
“What the…? What is this?”
“An intervention… of sorts.” Julie said quietly.
“Intervention? For what?” She said her eyes going as wide as saucers
“For why you’re acting so weird lately.” Tobin said standing up, and crossing her arms, trying to intimidate our young teammate just slightly.
“I am not acting weird.” She said defensively.
“Yes you are.”
“No I’m not!”
“Really? Then why did you snap at Mal and technically christen today?”
“I was just irritated.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, why do you guys care so much?”
“Because we’re supposed to look after you.” Christen said, raising an eyebrow when all she got in return was an eye roll. After a beat of silence she sighed loudly and sat down on the floor, hanging her head in defeat.
“Are you…okay?” Kelley asked as we all looked around at each other, unsure of what to say or do.
“I don’t know.” She said lifting up her head and rubbing her face tiredly. She took her phone out of her pocket, and after a moment threw it on the bed, and said “Read it”
We each took turns quietly reading the text conversation between her and her father, and after each person read it there was a noticeable shift in the room. Everyone was angry for her.
“Who talks to a child like that? Much less their own child?” Megan said beginning to pace around the room, angrily.
“I’ll kill him.”
“I’ll break his kneecaps.”
“You don’t need his approval you know that, right?”
“I just feel like I’ve let him down.” She said quietly, looking anywhere but at us.
“That’s not true. I won’t lie and say that he’s going to change his mind one day and say that what you’re doing is good enough for him but you don’t need validation from him, or anyone for that matter. All that matters is how you feel about yourself and the things that you do.” Ali said sitting down next to her and wrapping her arm around her, letting her lay her head on her shoulder.
“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do now. I mean I know that what he said wasn’t cool, but i do still rely on him for stuff and at the end of the day I still have to go home at the end of camp.” she sighed.
“What could you possibly rely on him for?” Kelley scoffed
“Oh I don’t know, maybe, food, a roof over my head, things like that.” She said sarcastically.
“You don’t need him for that, you have us.”
“Oh right, like one of you is gonna want ME as a roommate.”
We all looked around at each other and a few of us shrugged.
“Why not? If you want, you can be me and kelley’s roomie.” Alex said smiling softly at the young striker who looked back at her with lots of skepticism.
“Or you could ask Mal if she’s looking to room with anyone.” Tobin said wiggling her eyebrows.
“You guys would really do that for me?” She asked, voice breaking just slightly.
“Of course we would kid.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s what family does.” Christen said, walking over to our youngest teammate and giving her a hand up.
“Group hug!” Tobin said as we all smushed together. The hug was brief however as we were interrupted by rapid knocking on the door.
“Okay, okay hold your horse’s I’m coming” Crystal said quickly yanking the door open, startling whoever was on the other side.
“Is Y/N here?” We heard Mal ask.
“Yeah, she is, you wanna come in?” Crystal stepped to the side to let the youngins into the room, mainly Mal, Rose, Sonnett, Trinity, Tierna, Sophia, Ashley Sanchez and Sam Mewis.
“We were wondering if-”
“Wait what’s wrong?” Sam asked, taking in Y/N’s tired and still slightly sad expression.
“Nothing Sammy, they just finished cheering me up actually.”
“Cheering you up about what? Are you okay?” Mal asked, stepping forward and wrapping her in a tight hug.
“Yeah I’m okay. My dad’s just being a little tough on me right now, that’s all.”
Ali scoffed, “I think he’s being a little more than tough on you, love. He’s being a jackass, and you don’t deserve it.”
“Wait, what did we miss? Come on, we never get to know what’s going on!” Trinity whined.
Y/N decided to show the new comers to the room, what they had missed and much like before everyone was visibly and vocally angry on behalf of our teammate all beginning to talk over one another, only stopping when Y/N loudly called out to them.
“Guys, guys, it’s okay. I don’t need you all conspiring to commit murder on my behalf, okay? It’s not necessary. I’ve already decided to take Alex and Kelley up on their offer to be their roommate.”
“Really? That’s great! We’ll get all the details sorted out before the end of camp.” Alex said wrapping her arms around her in a bear hug.
“Fine, is there anything else we can do for you then? Anything.” Mal asked.
“Movie night?”
“Anything for you.”
After everyone was changed and comfortable, everyone piled on and around the 2 beds in the room, Alex caught on to the fact that Mal and Y/N were laying together, with Y/N in between Mal’s legs, laying on her chest. She quietly nudged Julie who was the closest to them and she quickly took out her phone and snapped a picture, discreetly sending it to everyone but the 2 lovebirds.
“Awww! That’s so CUTE!” Rose said loudly, Sam quick to cover her mouth and shush her, Mal and Y/N looking at her in confusion.
“What’s so cute Rose?” Mal asked.
“Uh- nothing, nothing just a picture of Sam’s dog she just showed me.” She said nervously. Sam elbowed Rose in the ribs as she smiled sweetly at them.
“Oh yeah, just uh, it’s just a picture of Fin from the first bath he took.” She said nervously.
“Oh let me see!” Y/N said enthusiastically.
Sam quickly pulled up a picture to show her and mal and they both gushed over it quietly.
After a lot of debate and only a little bit of yelling, it was decided we would watch Monster’s inc. A Pixar classic.
While we weren’t sure how well the next few weeks would go for our youngest teammate, we all vowed to do whatever it took to show her that we would always be there for her, and that we would be the family that she had always been looking for.

THE END
This ending was awkward, and i overall don’t really like how this turned out. But hopefully it was decent.

My baby sister ・ Leah Williamson
Tumblr media
Based on this request, somewhat a part 3 to 'Wildest Dreams' . This is a lengthy one.
Request: "Can we please have a second part of Wildest Dreams it was so good 🥹 Maybe one during the friendlies and reader gets a head injury and know Lucy, Leah and the girls have to reflect their most important player and light of the team possibly being gone, just angsty with fluff, I would be insanely thankful"
Part 1 I Promised
Part 2 Wildest Dreams
Word count: 2.6k
You were excited to go into the friendly against the US, the rivalry between the two countries  fueling your team’s hunger for the win.
Sarina had a solid game plan, one that you all trusted even with some of your teammates being injured, but you weren’t the only ones missing players. The USWNT had their best, Alex Morgan, out as well as many other key players.
This didn’t mean that the match would be any easier.
Lining up in the tunnel of the stadium you stand behind Millie as you take a deep breath, eyes closed as you try to let go of any nervousness you have and focus on the game ahead. A hand makes its way into your’s before giving it a soft squeeze and you recognize her touch.
“You’ll do amazing babe, show them who's the best!” Leah encourages you and you smile at her thankfully, pressing a discreet kiss to her shoulder.
“Thanks Lee. You gonna be watching?”
“Yepp, I just wanted to wish you a goodluck before I make my way up there.” she tells you with a soft smile and she gives you a small wave as the ref signals that you’re about to walk out.
It felt amazing to be playing at Wembley again and you see a similar prideful look on your teammates faces as they take their positions.
You take your place as the attacking midfielder after doing your handshake with Beth and your eyes zero in on the ball as the whistle is blown.
England seem to be off to a great start and you’re running through the US players when Beth sends a pass your way and you quickly scan over the players in front of you then send the ball forward to Lauren who takes the shot and scores the first goal of the night for England. You celebrate it with a few of your teammates and as you look up you spot Leah clapping with a smile on her face.
It doesn’t take long for the other team to equalize though as Sophia Smith catches a loose pass for Georgia and she successfully puts the score to 1-1. You make your way towards Georgia as you see a disappointed look cross her face and you place a hand on her shoulder as you reach her.
“Hey G, it’s fine it happens to the best of us. Just don’t forget to get your revenge.” you tell her with a pat to the back and you nod to her when her expression morphs into one of determination.
“I’ll get it done.”
And she does, exactly 6 minutes later in a penalty goal, though not before your sister gets a boot to her face. What a wonderful way to celebrate her 100th cap, you think to yourself.
You and Beth work your asses off running up and down, giving assists, shooting, but no shots on goal are successful.
The US doesn’t rest either, their goals continuously being offside.
You do make your own appearance nonetheless. You’re dribbling past four players while also keeping an eye on Beth who’s running close by, but when you finally make your way through the many American players, you decide to do it yourself and with the angle you have your shot reaches the top right corner of the goal before falling into the net behind.
You dedicate the goal to Lucy for her 100th cap and point to her with a gleeful look. You catch Beth who jumps on your back before the others join you as well. 3-1 for England in the 75th minute of the game.
The game quickly takes a turn in the 82nd minute when Georgia attempts another goal. You watch as the ball slightly curves the wrong way and you jump to head it in, you don’t register the shove until you’re trying to catch yourself on the goal post.
You fall into the arms of Alana Cook and she gently lowers your now limp body to the ground. She straightens not even a second later with panic written all over her face and she frantically waves for the medical team.
It takes a second for the Lionesses to realize that it’s one of their own laying on the turf, but a good number of them immediately surround you.
“What’s going on?” Lucy asks with a confused look as she jogs over to Georgia. The brunette only shakes her head at that, she couldn’t see from the amount of white and blue jerseys standing around the scene.
Lucy makes her way over to them, pushing players out of the way until she stays frozen in her step at the sight in front of her.
There you lay, unconscious with blood pouring out of your head at an alarming rate both Chloe and Alana have their hands pressed against your forehead as they try to stop the bleeding.
She’s quick to get out of her shock and kneels next to you with a terrified look and she fears the worst as she places a hand on your chest. She lets out a sigh of relief when she feels you breathing, but the relief is short-lived as the blood makes its way down to the grass below you.
“No, no come on Y/N, open your eyes!” she cups your cheeks as tears fall from her face. The medical team seems to take forever to get to you and when they finally do they listen to Lucy pleading.
She stays by your side even as the medics tell her to make more space for them and she listens until a shout catches her attention.
“It wasn’t on purpose! I swear!” She looks over to where most of the Lionesses are and watches as Millie shoves the girl, also shouting in her face.
“You knew what you were doing!” the blonde seethes and doesn’t budge when Rachel and Alex try to pull her away.
“Was this your doing? Are you the one who hurt my sister?!” Lucy is in the shorter girl’s face who looks terrified at the angered look on her face.
“It was an accident!”
“Naomi!” one of her teammates warns, but it’s too late because Lucy shoves her to the ground.
The referee blows her whistle and hands both of them a yellow card before she directs Bronze towards where you’re currently being placed on a stretcher.
Your team watches as the young US player is subbed off and then watches as you’re carried off the pitch leaving your sister silently crying.
“She’ll be okay Luce, she might be small but she’s one hell of a fighter.” Keira tries to reassure her.
Up in the stands Leah wobbles on her crutches as she makes her way down to where she saw the medics disappear to and when she finally reaches them she hurries over to you.
Her heart breaks at the sight, although the bleeding has stopped, the rag on your head is almost completely soaked red and she tries to keep her own tears at bay.
“Miss, would you like to go with her? To the hospital?” one of them asks and she eagerly nods, taking her place next to you in the ambulance.
Once you get to the hospital though, you’re separated from her as she’s told to wait in the waiting room while they take care of you.
That’s where the rest of the team finds her, and she looks over at them, still clad in their England kit and Lucy still has her cleats on.
“Where’s she?”
“Hello, can I help you all?” a nurse interrupts with a kind smile as she takes in the lot standing in the middle of the hospital.
“We’re looking for Y/N Bronze.” Keira answers first.
“Y/N Raffaele Tough Bronze?” She questions and waits for a nod of confirmation before  continuing.
“Follow me, she’s in room 258, it will be to your right once you reach the second floor. She hasn't woken up from the light anesthesia and the pain medication yet, but she is okay and will most likely gain consciousness in the next hour or so” the nurse fills them in while standing in the elevator and then she lets them into the room they have you placed in.
Leah is the first to get to your bed and she reaches out a hand to caress your cheek before she feels Georgia gently push her into the chair next to your bed. “Oh god love, I’ll end whoever did this to you.”
“I think Lucy’s already taken care of that.” one of the girls joked lightly.
Your sister slowly walks over to you, reassured by the heart monitor beeping regularly and she takes a second to look over your bandaged up head. She sighs as she wipes another tear away and gently places her hand on your thigh, a reminder that you are actually there.
The lionesses watch the two people next to you with soft looks on their faces and some of them take a seat in the few chairs, others opting to sit on the floor instead.
Keira also guides her girlfriend to sit down. The group sits in silence for a few minutes before Georgia speaks up.
“You know, I wish to be at the level of football that Y/N is at. I mean, I know that she’s not much older than me but since the first time she stepped foot in a professional football match, I’ve wanted to be as good as her.”
The younger girl explains with a happy smile on her face and Lucy chuckles. A few of the younger girls also voice their agreements, the room erupting with chatter as everyone shares their own story with you.
“I met her only last year, well officially that is. When I made my debut for the team, she was the first one to approach me and helped me learn the ropes of being on the national team.” Ella continues. “Lessi already knew because she was in the squad before me, but she also admires her a lot.”
Lucy listens with a proud smile, her eyes welling up at the love her little sister is receiving, even if you can’t exactly hear them yourself.
She’s sure everyone has taken their turns at least two times when they suddenly all turn to her with expectant looks, she clears her throat. Keira places a comforting arm over her shoulders, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Y/N’s always wanted to be like me, she wanted to have her hair in a bun during matches, wanted to have the same color cleats and such. She wanted to speak to me in Portuguese when we were younger, our secret language that most people around us wouldn’t understand. Said she wanted to be like me because she wanted to be the greatest, like me.”
she chuckled at the memory, a fond smile gracing her lips and the rest of the girls listened to her intently. “She might be a good 6 years younger than me, but if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be playing football today.” Lauren looked at her confused.
“Why?” she voiced.
“When I transferred to Lyon she wanted to come with me because she didn’t want to play in a different country as me. So she asked for a loan from Arsenal knowing that the French club was also interested in her. And she was so happy when we made our debut together, god she was so young.” Lucy spoke, her voice full of pride.
“She eventually extended her contract and stayed at Lyon for the whole 3 years with me and when I got that knee injury, she was the first one at my side, she helped me through my rehab and pushed me to not give up. I wanted to quit, I felt so alone with the pandemic and all, but she never let me and it’s thanks to her that I’m still able to play professionally.”
“Wow, she really does have this superpower to lift others up.” Millie spoke with a surprised look on her face.
“Yeah, she’s the best baby sister I could’ve ever asked for.”
“So wait, if she wanted to be so much like you, how come she’s a midfielder?” Beth asked.
“She wanted to be the one scoring the goals.” Lucy answers making your team laugh.
“And she does it pretty damn well.” Keira added.
“I don’t know if you’ve ever heard her story behind her jersey number.” Leah speaks up and they turn to her with a shake of their heads. “She said she wanted a part of you to always be with her.” Leah said to Lucy.
“And your number for England is 2, she has three siblings so she chose the number 6. Multiplying the two numbers together. She even asked if she could have that number for Arsenal as it was mine, and of course I let her have it.” The blonde finished with a chuckle of her own, holding your hand in her own.
“I never knew that, I thought she just liked the number because her birthday is on the 6th.” Your sister spoke with surprise.
“Well I mean 6 is a pretty good number.” your hoarse voice was heard and Lucy immediately got up on her feet, getting to you as fast as she could before practically collapsing on you.
You stroke her back as she cries into you. You list Leah’s hand in yours and press a kiss to the back of it, reassuring her that you’re okay.
“Why are you crying Luce?”
“I failed to protect you, again.” she said with a sniffle, Keira’s hand now joining yours on her back.
“Luce, it’s just how the game is, you won’t always be able to protect me.”
“I know, I know.” is all she says and the others take her silence as a chance to voice their own worries and you reassure them all that you’re okay and only needed to get a few stitches.
When they finally leave the room to get back to the hotel, you’re left with your three best friends who all help you get ready and discharged.
Your sister hasn’t let go of your hand since, even holding on as you make the short walk back to the hotel.
“Just so you know, you’re not allowed to step foot on a pitch for the next two weeks!”
“Lucy!”
“Nope, no excuses.” you’re again about to protest when Leah interrupts you.
“She’s right. And even the doctor said so.”
“Who’s side are you on?” you question playfully and she shakes her head at you with a smile.
“At least I won’t be sitting alone on the sidelines.” the four of you laugh at that.
As you arrive at the hotel room, which you realize is your sister’s, Keira guides you into bed, insisting for you to be on bed rest even though you’ve been released from the hospital and you give in after a while.
Similar to last time, the four of you spend the night in one room and as you turn the bed lamp off you’re pulled into a kiss, one which you smile into. Pulling away you peck the blonde’s lips a final time before lazily draping an arm over her waist, careful of her injured leg.
You'd be out for a week or too, and sure, that sucked, but it would suck less with your best friends next to you.

Put Respect On My Name - USWNT/Reader
I will say that I due use both Christen Press and Christian Pulisic in this fic but it’s not at the same time. So when you see the spellings change know that it’s a different person and I’m not just stupid.
prompt: Pulisic!Reader is at the December camp. Reader is pissed after she watches a break down of the men’s team and its made mention that Christian’s family must be excited because its the first time a Pulisic is going to a World Cup even though the Reader went to the 2019 World Cup.
warnings: none
words: 1817
Tumblr media
(Y/N) POV
We were sitting around the conference room with one of the laptops hooked up to the projector so we could play the program that was breaking down our men’s team that would be in Qatar. As much as I had wanted to be in Qatar for the World Cup, Christian understood why I wasn’t going to be there. After all, I could be arrested and jailed in Qatar just for being queer.
“What about Captain America? Christian Pulisic?” Alexi Lalas asked. I perked up at that. “You have to imagine that the Pulisic family is excited about this after the men failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. And most people were looking at Christian Pulisic for that. But also because he’s going to be the first one in the family to ever go to a World Cup.”
I clenched my fist at that. It was bad enough that I usually had to deal with my parents overlooking my achievements for Christian’s, but to have someone do it so blatantly on TV was humiliating. I ignored the looks some of my teammates sent me.
“I mean, everyone is going to be looking at Christian to lead this team,” Alexi said. I shook my head at him because I couldn’t let him get to me. “And with how Christian’s younger sister has been playing? Well, that family needs something to look forward to. I mean, (Y/N) Pulisic has been forgettable in these last three USWNT matches. Horrible last three games for her and there’s still one more game on the table. They might even lose that game and break the record for the longest USWNT losing streak. So this family must be looking forward to seeing their son in the World Cup.”
I scoffed at that. My recent performances were the last thing I needed to hear about.
“Fuck this dude.”
I looked over my shoulder at Pinoe who was sitting behind me.
“First Pulisic my ass. We’ve got a Pulisic who has won a World Cup,” Pinoe said. She reached forward and ruffled my hair. “We all have bad games every now and then. You’ll get out of this funk.”
I did stick around to see the rest of the program. I knew it would be crucial for our guys to get a win against Wales or Iran. We were obviously going to be the underdogs against England, but I couldn’t wait to see the guys play in the World Cup. It would definitely be nice to see Christian play in his first World Cup.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey, don’t let what Lalas said get to you,” Christen said as I propped my phone up on the desk. “He’s just an idiot.”
“He said it for the whole country to hear. And that comment about this being the first time a Pulisic is at the World Cup?” I pointed out. I shook my head at that as I moved over to my bags. “It’s bullshit. I’m one of the best scorers in the world. I just won the Ballon d’Or this year.”
“Just make them respect you,” Tobin spoke up from the back ground. I rolled my eyes at that. “You have the skills. Just go back to your basics. Don’t try to be too complicated.”
“Easy for you to say, you don’t have to try to live up to an older brother who hasn’t even accomplished half of what you have,” I pointed out. “I have more caps, more World Cups, and more goals and yet everyone thins Christian is better than me.”
“Look, at me, (Y/N).”
I looked up to meet Christen’s eye as I sat my gear on the bed.
“You’re a great player in your own right. You just listed out all of the accomplishments you’ve already achieved and you’re only 22,” Christen said. “You’re gonna go out there and play against Germany and you’re gonna do great. You’re gonna show people why they should respect you.”
“I just want people to remember me for what I’ve done, not because of my older brother,” I said. I sighed as I rubbed the back of my head. “Don’t I deserve that?”
“You do, (Y/N),” Tobin assured me. I shook my head cause I wasn’t sure anymore. “You really do. Just make them remember.”
“Easier said than done.”
“Tobin is right though, (Y/N). You just have to go to the basics. Don’t be too complicated,” Christen said. I sighed as I threw my gear into my practice bag. “I’m serious. Don’t worry about your own performance but rather how the team is doing. Just go out and play for the win and the rest will come to you. It always has.”
“Yeah, okay,” I nodded. I knew that they were right. “I just gotta make sure we are getting the win. Hey, I gotta go. The bus leaves for practice soon. I’ll call you guys later though?”
“You can call either of us anytime, kid,” Tobin said.
I gave her a soft smile as I reached out to grab my phone before ending the call. Once I pocketed my phone, I grabbed my gear bag before heading out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You know I don’t agree with what he said, right?” Christian asked through the phone.
“Yeah, I know,” I nodded.
Christian had called me as soon as I had gotten out of practice. I had been tempted not to answer, but I ultimately did because he wasn’t the one I was upset with.
“Obviously I’ve got to ask you for advice on how to deal with the pressure,” Christian said.
I smiled at that. Christian had always paid attention to how people often put me down even though my career had been more impressive so far.
“Just make sure you play to the best of your ability and you just play for the win,” I told him. Christian smiled at me.
“See? You’re already giving me great advice and the World Cup hasn’t even started yet,” Christian said. I chuckled at that. “Now I just need you to train me so I can win a Ballon d’Or.”
“Try moving to a new team.”
“Oh real funny, (Y/N).”
“Hey, you asked.”
The two of us just sat on the call in silence for a moment.
“Are you sure you’re not upset with me for decided not to go to Qatar?” I asked. It was something that was still really bugging me.
“(Y/N), answer this. If the World Cup was being held somewhere that wouldn’t arrest you for loving who you love, would you go?” Christian asked.
“Yeah, you know I would.”
“Then no,” Christian shook his head. “So long as you’ll watch the games and give me feedback on them, I don’t care.”
“Okay, but if you guys go to the final, I’ll be there,” I promised. Christian looked surprised at that. “You guys might surprise a lot of people.”
“Just go out there and show them why you’re the real Captain America in our family.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I broke out for the run as the ball was threaded through to me. I didn’t worry about trying to be fancy today. All I was worried about helping us win tonight. Before I knew it, it was just Berger and I. Then the ball was in the back of the net.
I immediately was running toward Pinoe. She ran out to meet me too.
“I told you that you’d get out of that funk!”
I grinned at that. It was now 3-1 as my goal had came after Sophia and Mal’s goals.
Just 5 minutes after that, I had a third goal on the night. I yelled as I ran toward the corner. I turned my back to the camera and pointed at my last name before turning back around.
“Put respect on my name! And don’t forget it!”
My teammates jumped onto my back.
“(Y/N) Pulisic is back!” Alex screamed as she threw her arms around me.
I grinned at that as we moved back to get ready for Germany to kick the ball. It didn’t feel like it was much longer until the game ended with the 5-1 win for us. I was stopped for an interview after the game.
“Congratulations on the hat-trick, (Y/N),” Aly Wagner said. I grinned and nodded at that. “What was going through your head today with this game?”
“Obviously we didn’t want to be the first USWNT team to lose four games in a row. But it was more for me, but I didn’t expect a hat-trick,” I admitted. I glanced over my shoulder at my teammates when they yelled my name. I shook my head at them. “Obviously, with the men going to Qatar for the World Cup here soon, we’ve been supporting our men and brushing up on the squad details. We watched a program to break down the men’s team and I just found some of the comments very offensive to me. I just want people to put the respect I deserve on my name.”
“Will you be going to Qatar to support Christian?” Aly asked.
“Unfortunately I will not,” I said with a small shake of my head. “I really would love to, but Christian and I have talk about it. I definitely wouldn’t have made such a decision without knowing how he felt about it. It always boils down to Qatar’s stance on the LGBTQ+ as we both would rather not risk that I would be arrested for being queer. Christian knows that if it was elsewhere then I would be attending too, but I did agree to watch the games and send him my own feedback.”
“You just mentioned putting respect on your name and giving your brother feedback,” Aly said. I nodded at that. “With that respect and obviously having won a World Cup yourself, does Christian ask you for advice?”
“Yeah, sometimes,” I nodded. We both often went to each other. “Christian and I understand each other better than most siblings do. He’s the one who taught me how to play soccer, but we’ve grown up practicing and playing together. We’ve been through these journeys together. Christian was the first person I told the first time I got called up for the senior team. And I was the first person who Christian called when he got his first call up. So I think we both ask each other for advice all the time, but I would never not try to help him.”
“All right, thank you and congratulations on the win and the hat-trick, (Y/N).”
I nodded at that before taking the headset off. I grinned as I headed back to the locker room. I couldn’t help but chuckle at the post Christian had tagged me in. It was a picture of me dressed as Captain America and he was calling me his Captain America in the caption.
LFG WORLD CUP ROSTER DROP
enjoy this short essay of my thoughts:
I pretty much saw like 85% of this roster coming
tbh seeing alyssa thompson and savannah demelo was WILD for me, but that's because I haven't really been able to keep up with the nwsl as much as I would like so they kinda threw me for a loop
ok but let me talk about how happy I was to see GIRMA, ERTZ, SONNETT, KELLEY, K MEW, AND EMILY FOX
listen I was so stressed that I wasn't gonna get the chest bump bros at the world cup YOU DONT UNDERSTAND
and I am so damn proud of naomi girma, like she has had such an impact on this team and I'm so glad that we have her now that captain becky isn't there (still not over it)
fox is a killer, I love watching her play, she's gonna do great
lynn deserves this so much she has been kicking ass
sophia smith ily goal scoring machine
I also wanna take a sec to shout out all the sonnett haters SUCK IT
I have complete and total faith in alyssa ' brick wall' naeher, alex 'and that's the tea' morgan, julie ' the tank' ertz, and megan 'I'm not going to the fucking white house' rapinoe.
HOWEVER, I do have some.... let's call them.... idk's -> alana cook has just not left me with the best impression, I think she's slow on defense and isn't very aggressive with the ball, she has very rare good moments. sof huerta has just had a very meh performance for the uswnt IN MY OPINION I don't think she's very consistent. alyssa thompson I think is just too young, not to say that she couldn't completely kill it, but I just don't know if she can perform on the world's biggest stage, cause that's totally different than an nwsl game. sanchez and rodman for me have just not shown their true potential on the uswnt, like I'm still waiting for them to really show up, maybe with the cup on the line they will.
all in all, I think this is a very solid roster. obviously, we are missing some key players due to injury (press, heath, becky, sammy, mal just to name a few) and I would love nothing more than for them to be there, BUT I think these are the best 23 players we have right now. we are gonna have a kick ass starting 11 XI and some killer subs.
that being said LETS FUCKING GO WIN THIS THING!!
ps: I'm gonna be way more active leading up to and through the entire world cup so feel free to send me questions, comments, opinions, or whatever you want.
pps: CAN YOU BELIEVE TAYLOR SWIFT ANNOUNCED ALEX FOR THE ROSTER? LOVE IT WHEN MY WORLDS COLLIDE (there were other cool celebs aka queen olivia benson, john cena, gabrielle union, and SHAQ but I'm first and foremost a swiftie)
What were your thoughts on the game?
what a GREAT question! for clarification i didn’t actually watch the game because i was asleep and now i’m in the car so this is more post-game, big picture thoughts.
first of all, i’m obviously devastated. i love this team and wanted to see them do well. i’m having big feelings for soph because she’s gonna be shouldering a lot of the blame for this loss when she is absolutely not to blame here. who is to blame, you ask? vlatko. that man does not have an ounce of understanding of the uswnt in his body. sometimes teams lose and that’s literally just how sports work and i’m not even a tiny bit worried about the players on the team. the right coach will know how to help them gel.
in my opinion, however, there are two silver linings.
first: no more vlatko! he’s as good as already fired - this is the first time EVER that the uswnt hasn’t made it to the finals in consecutive major tournaments. i have thoughts on who i’d like to see replace him (and can share in another post if you’re curious) but what i’ll say right now is that it needs to be a woman.
second: as much as i wanted to see the three-peat i think it’s kind of good the us lost. the women’s game is growing and i’m excited to see someone else win. ESPECIALLY if it’s a non-european team. winning a world cup undeniably brings press to the team and it’s going to move women’s soccer forward further. i have my favorites to win but honestly i’m just excited to watch the rest of the wc.
anyways that’s enough from me! send asks please i’m waiting for a ferry and have nothing to do :)
Ugh! My favorite player just officially retired and I am so sad. I was done with the USWNT when they stopped calling her up but now I'm probably done with soccer (except maybe when Ali plays). She was the reason I started watching back when she was at UNC. For the player she was and, more importantly, the person she became, I will be forever grateful for being able to witness her career and her growth as a human being. I'm interested to see what she does next though. Sad, sad, sad :(.
Feel you friend, I probably just keep up with the NWSL because Ali's still playing.
Yes, Ash growth as a player and as a person was amazing to watch. For me, it's always bittersweet to remember that the timing of her injuries and some coach never let her have a real chance of competing for the number one spot in the national team. She's at peace with her career, she achieved so much and she is gonna enjoy her kids full time now.
Thoughts on the match
Yay okay first 10 minutes...ish then ....hoo boy.
U ok Lindsey??
Slow. Ass. Game.
Plz someone stop letting M SwanPugh take corners.
Stop talking Julie... for the love of god
Lindsey...u ok bro???
Rose Lavelle? You mean ghost Lavelle? Does anyone see her? No...ok... let's not give her the ball... really its fine.
I could keep Fox...probably not too shabby.
Dunno how I feel about Taylor there. I love you man but... maybe not?
LINDSEY WTFFF
#embarrassed
More embarrassed
Julie... PLEASE
Annoyed
Wait...who were the front three. WAS there a front three. Connection was... where?
Honestly not a big fan of Cook so far. Generally speaking. I just... you gonna defend? You gotta have bite. Girl got no bite so far. Maybe it's a confidence thing??
The subs helped... but why would you not sub Lindsey off??
Aleeehhh mogannn ALEH MOGANNNNNN
YAY LYNN, that was a good moment for her. She needed that.
Alright. I'll keep me a Huerta on the field now. Much improved 👏
We very lacked finishing. And connection... still connection. We need bite, and vim, and vigor. And that's pretty much non-existent. And overall I say
MEH...at least Murphy wasn't in goal?
Will I watch the next game? I really don't know.
I miss the excitement I used to feel when I watched USWNT play. I hope we get there...I really do. 😔
30. ‘Get Back in Bed!’
“Y/N,” Kristie says, stretching your name out in warning.
Your eyes go wide, looking at her and pressing your lips together to stop yourself from giggling.
Kristie’s exasperated look is redirected from you to the doorway when she hears a commotion. She can only think of one group capable of causing such a commotion: the USWNT.
Sure enough, bodies come piling through the door, filling the room. Your face lights up when you see your teammates, excitedly trying to get up and go see them. When your body makes it to the edge of the bed, an alarm starts going off. A look of shock crosses your face as you try to figure out where the noise is coming from.
By now, familiar with the routine, Kristie stands from the chair she was in. Crossing to the bed, she presses a few buttons on the panel on the side and the noise stops.
“If that alarm goes off again, the police are going to come arrest you,” she warns, “you need to stay in bed.”
You nod your head seriously, firmly believing her. You scoot back to the middle of the bed, making yourself comfortable and quickly becoming absorbed in the ad playing on the television.
“The nurse taught me how to turn the alarm off the fifth time she tried to climb out of bed,” Kristie tells the team, “the police coming is my only little spin on it.”
“Does it work?” Abby questions from the group.
“Oh, it absolutely does not, thank you for asking. But she’s so gullible that it’s a fun game we like to play.”
“She’s not gullible,” Abby says, looking at where you were intensely staring at the tv, “she’s just super drugged.”
“That too,” Kristie agrees, “but drugged is better than her screaming in pain.”
Everyone’s faces go solemn as they think about how much pain you had been in earlier. A trip to the hospital and some pain meds had made a world of difference over the last few hours. The only problem is that now you were an absolute menace from the medication. You refused to stay in bed, determined to get out and go somewhere. You had pulled out two IVs before they wrapped this one so securely that your clumsy hands couldn’t get to it.
For the most part, you have been as good as you can be. Mainly, you were content to ramble nonsensically to yourself, periodically looking to whoever else was in the room. Once they said some form of agreement, you would go right back into your conversation. You were also happy to stare at the tv like it was the most interesting thing that you had ever seen.
Kristie had been lucky enough to be stuck with you. She had rolled her ankle at practice a few days ago, and the trainers wanted to play it safe. She had been passing the time watching old matches and reviewing games, but you needed her attention more. When she tried to pull out a laptop and watch some of the videos while you were sleeping, she was shocked by her headphone being pulled out of her ear. There you were, hospital gown hanging loosely off your body as you stared at her, the bed alarm going off in the background. Both of you stared at each other, completely confused.
The team was pulled out of their conversation as a familiar sound filled the air. Looking over, they could see you attempting to climb over one of the rails that had been pulled up.
“Y/N, get back in bed,” Kristie demands sharply.
“But, I- I- I gotta go. Go help, gonna win. USA. USA”
You’re halfway over the railing, rambling a monologue that nobody can quite follow. The alarm is still going off and Kristie knows she needs to fix the situation soon before the nurse comes into the room. She walks quickly to the bed, turning the alarm off.
Now, she looks at you. You had actually managed to get one of your feet to the ground, the hospital branded non-slip sock supporting you. Your other limbs were indistinguishable as they tried to grip onto the railing of the bed.
“Someone else needs to handle this. I’m supposed to be injured.”
Ash rolls her eyes and walks over to you.
“Hi muffin. Did you get stuck?”
You hum an affirmative response, watching her suspiciously. She chuckles, easily picking you up and plopping you back down on the bed. As soon as you’re seated again, your eyes go back to the tv. The team follows your gaze, quickly figuring out where you might be headed.
“Y/N?” Kristie asks.
You don’t look away from the screen or verbally respond, but you do nod your head slightly.
“Are you trying to go help at the soccer game?”
“I’m a soccer player. I’m a good soccer player and they’re not, they need help. I need to go help them or they’re not going to win.”
The team has to refrain from laughing at the not so subtle jab you had just directed to the USMNT. It was true, the game was not going well. You have always been honest.
Kristie sighs, unsure how to respond.
“Are you a boy or a girl?” she ends up asking.
“I’m a girl, see? I have long hair and my nails are pink so I have to be a girl.”
“Can boys have long hair and pink nails?” Kristie probes.
“Yeah.”
“Okay, whatever, not going to question that. But you’re a girl and this is the boy’s team. They wouldn’t let you play.”
“Oh.”
“I know, it’s very sad that you can’t play.”
“Kristie? I really want to play though.”
“I think we’re too far away, they’re in the Middle East. Maybe we can play with them another day.”
You look at Kristie like she’s an idiot, “they’re right there,” you whisper loudly, “I see them.”
Deciding that she would get nowhere trying to rationalize with you, Kristie grabs the remote. She changes the tv to Animal Planet and you are instantly absorbed in the crocodile the Irwin son is trying to relocate.
Seeing that you’re content, Kristie walks back over to the group. She sits down heavily in a seat, leaning her head back and closing her eyes.
“Don’t judge me, you would lie to her too. She’s exhausting.”
9. Any talents? Nope, I'm remarkably talentless unless we count a pretty decent memory and okay writing skills
10. Where were you born? Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Land of the milk and cheese (and beer). Pretty boring place to be from but I love Milwaukee
11. What are your hobbies? I'm pretty boring, so I don't have a ton but I would say soccer is the biggest one and I like photography and baking
Thanks again to @whiteheartkane for tagging me, this was fun to do!! I'm still vv new to actually blogging on tumblr (but I've been hovering around for years) so I don't actually have 15 mutuals lol so I won't tag anyone, but this was fun!!
Okay can you please give me the rundown of the state of the uswnt at the moment? I've not watched many of their games in a few years, I know they've had a lot of younger players come in and obviously are still getting used to the new coach but I've seen some people saying that they could easily beat the European teams and some saying they have no chance at the world Cup. What's your take? :)
YES. I love this question and what a perfect time to be asking with the CONCACAF tournament just concluding. Disclaimer that i'm not going to talk tactics or Andonovski in this answer because id just be repeating journalists and they basically talk in black and white thinking and i don't have time in life to try and digest that and put it in writing.
We can neither easily beat the best European teams nor do we have no chance at world cup. I am a pessimistic person so i will admit when i first read the question i wanted to lament to you about how “omg the roster is so young and untested”. But the truth is the roster that went to the CONCACAF tournament did great all things considered AND there is time before the world cup to reintegrate those that are on maternity leave or injured, so i have nothing to worry about really.
What i was most happy about is how the defense did at CONCACAF because we had to bring in new people for dahlkemper, davidson, AND dunn and like wtf thats a lot of turnover for a defense!!!! but ya know what? They (fox, girma, huerta, cook) did great considering they havent had time to build up chemistry. Midfield is always a question mark it seems so im not even going to pretend i know what is happening there except to say i hope sullivan is around because i like how attacking/distribution focused they are (helps us move away from the just send long balls ahead to try and get behind the back line of opponent approach we so love but is predictable). The only forward injured right now is macario, i believe and there’s plenty of time for them to heal before world cup. And pugh, morgan and smith are all playing impressively so it looks like the forwards are the most stable position.
So, all in all, this isnt a bad position to be in and i think we have a great shot. After watching the euros we do have some stiff competition coming. Germany is gonna be so pissed at losing theyre gonna come back with a vengeance probably. France played some PRETTY soccer, like one on one skills will be hard to defend. Spain is still a threat even though their star probably wont heal, in time for the world cup. We didn't get a good look at what the Netherlands is capable of because of sickness :(. And, of course, England… if their chemistry is still what it was during the euros then we are all in trouble.
Bottom line: Chemistry is crucially important and I think now we have JUST enough time to get some veterans back on the roster and get some chemistry brewing . (Though i think i read something about how uswnt doesnt really get the chance to have long ass camps anymore like they used to so that may hurt.)
Tobin sighed and looked up at you from where she was lying by your side, “I don’t want to go, I want to stay with you.” She rolled over so that she was lying on her front, her arm resting on your stomach.
You interlaced your fingers with hers and rested them on your pregnant belly, “You’ll only be gone for the weekend.” You smiled, trying to persuade her that you'd be okay - even though you wanted her to stay just as much as she wanted to.
“I know.” She nodded, a light pout still on her lips.
You cupped her face with your hands, bringing her in for a light kiss, “It’ll race by.” You said and smiled, pressing another kiss to her forehead. She sighed and nodded again.
“But what if something happens?”
You shook your head, “Nothing will happen, I’m not due for another 2 weeks.” She hesitantly nodded and moved to sit up, squeezing your hand, “Plus, I’m safe here with your family, it’ll be fine.”
Tobin looked over at her packed suitcase in the corner of your room, “If you told me to stay, I would.” She sent you a small cheeky smile and you sat next to her, smiling back but then wincing slightly as your baby sent a hard kick to your stomach. “Our baby’s going to be born a soccer star, huh?”
You elbowed her lightly and laughed, “Shut up, that kick took me by surprise,” You paused, bracing yourself for another kick that, thankfully, didn’t come, “You know I always want you to stay-” Tobin put her hand up and nodded.
“I’m calling in sick right now.” She jokingly reached for her phone and faked a cough, before kicking back, so she was lying down on the bed again.
You shook your head and pulled her back up to a sitting position, “But I also know how much you love what you do.” You put your hand on her arm as she put her phone back in her pocket, “I’ll see you soon.” To which she nodded and stood up.
“I love you,” She mumbled, leaning down to press a final goodbye kiss to your lips, “Stay here and rest, I’ll call you from the airport?”
“Sounds good, I love you.”
After the few days of being apart, both Tobin and Y/N had managed to keep in almost constant contact - whether it was phone calls, texting or facetiming. And now that her game had just finished, Tobin wanted to get off the pitch and back to you as soon as possible.
The team had just finished with all post-match interviews and were huddled beneath the roof and watching the storm take over the pitch they’d just been playing on, talking before heading back to the hotel.
Tobin placed her hand on Christen’s shoulder, “Listen, I’m gonna go call Y/N.”
“Okay, send her our love.” Christen nodded and watched as she separated herself from the group, already bringing up your number on her phone before she walked round the corner and the group lost sight of her, “They’re going to be such great mothers.”
Ash nodded, “Right?” and she stepped behind Ali, putting her arms around her shoulders, “I want more kids.”
“You’ve always wanted a whole soccer team of kids.” Ali laughed.
“Maybe I should just steal Y/N and Tobin’s.”
Ali turned in Ash’s arms and laughed, “You are not kidnapping our friend’s kid, babe.”
“Okay, fine. I’ll just be a live-in nanny.”
“Can I join you? That kid is gonna be a heartbreaker, boy or girl, and I gotta teach them all my tricks,” Pinoe joined in, “Although, obviously they’re going to have a boy.”
“You’re still insisting she’s going to be a boy?” Sonnett shouted out from behind the group, having overheard them speaking about the hot topic of Tobin and Y/N’s baby and having to put her two cents in.
“Hey, just because none of you believe me. It just means you’ll all be paying out when I win the bet.” Pinoe shrugged and smirked.
“Before we have another heated debate about whether it’s going to be a boy or girl, I’m going to go check in with my dad before I head to Portland with Tobin.” Christen laughed, about to leave the group to their arguments before one of the team’s staff interrupted her.
“Chris, glad I caught you, have any of you guys seen Tobin?” Erica asked, a phone in her hand and a worried expression on her face.
Ali nodded, “Yeah, she literally just went off to call Y/N,” She fully took into consideration Erica’s stressful posture and straightened, quirking her head to the side, “Why?”
“She’s in labor.” Erica blurted out, slight panic in her eyes.
“What, who?”
Ali lightly smacked the back of Ash's head and rolled her eyes, “Y/N, you idiot.”
“When?” Christen asked, laser focused on Erica.
“I got the call just after the second half started and I didn’t want to cause a scene and then I got all caught up and- we just need to get her back as soon as possible.”
Alex frowned and chewed lightly on her bottom lip, “Mom just said they might start cancelling flights out if the weather gets much worse.” As Alex finished speaking, Tobin strolled up to the group, eyes still glued to her phone screen as she frowned at it and gave it a shake.
“Hey, my phone literally just died before Y/N picked up, can I borrow someone’s?” She paused for a beat before taking in everyone's expressions and raised an eyebrow, “What?”
“Y/N’s gone into labor.” Ash rushed out before looking guiltily at Ali as alarm spread through Tobin's expression.
“What?”
Chris put a reassuring hand on Tobin's arm, “I can call to see when the next flight is leav-”
Tobin shook her head, shock still evident on her features as she stared at Christen and shook her head, “Is she okay? When did she call? Is someone there with he-”
“Tobin, chill. We’ll get you back to her.”
“Okay but I just need to speak to her.”
Erica cleared her throat, “She was fine when we spoke, your parents and Perry are there. She called just under an hour ago.”
“Thanks Erica.” Alex smiled and Erica nodded, leaving the group to sort things out as she walked back inside.
“An hour ago?! I knew I should have stayed with her.”
“It’ll only take half an hour to get you to the airport, you’ll be with her soon.”
“Yeah, so, bad news. They’ve cancelled the next flights out. The soonest one we could get is the flight we’re meant to be getting tomorrow morning and that’s only if the weather calms down overnight.” Alex said, looking up from her phone with a concerned look toward Tobin.
“I’m meant to be there for her.” There was a brief moment of silence as everyone looked at the defeated player in front of them. Each and every one of them wishing they could do something - anything - to help.
Chris frowned and rubbed Tobin's shoulder and Ash chewed on her bottom lip before raising an eyebrow and clearing her throat, “Why don’t we drive?”
“No, we couldn't, right? That’ll take forever.” Kelley shook her head, looking around the circle.
Christen shrugged and frowned before saying, “We’ll be there quicker than if we waited for the flight tomorrow.”
Emily nodded, holding up her phone, “I googled it, it would take like 8 hours.”
“Well then, let’s drive.” Christen smiled, squeezing Tobin's arm and picking up her bag from the floor.
Tobin let out a deep sigh and shook her head, “Chris-”
“We can take it in turns.” Pinoe joined in, bag already hanging on her shoulder as she walked past Tobin. The others joined the group fairly quickly, their coach travel bags in hand.
Tobin followed after them and shook her head again, “I don’t know.”
“We’re not going to let you miss being there for the birth and to meet your kid for the first time,” Ash put her arm over Tobin's shoulders and grinned, "And when was the last time we got to have a road trip together?"
Tobin's eyes showed a mix of emotions. She so badly wanted to be there with you already and was kicking herself for even leaving your side. The emotions that came with that train of thought plagued her and made any other decision way harder than it needed to be. Eventually she fought through the fog of emotions and gritted her teeth, nodding, “Okay, let’s go.”
"It was the promise of the road trip with me that convinced you, wasn't it?" Ash grinned, slapping her on the back.
"Hmm, more so the idea of being with my wife when she gives birth but yeah, sure Ash, it was getting to go on a road trip with you." Tobin smiled, running to catch up with Pinoe who was on a roll of organising the trip.
“I’ll message the girls to see who wants to go on a road trip.” Pinoe sang the last two words as she texted away on her phone.
Chris appeared at Tobin's shoulder with a phone, “Y/N’s calling-”
“Y/N?” Tobin asked, whipping round faster than she knew she had the energy for. She couldn't get any more words out so instead made grabby hands for the phone and pressed it to her ear.
“Hey Toby, you won!” Y/N's sweet voice floated through. Tobin had no real idea of what she had said, she was just relieved to hear her voice and to know she was, at the very least, alright.
“You’re in labor!?” Tobin managed to squeak out after a few seconds.
“Hey Tobin!” Tobin's mom's voice joined Y/N's.
Y/N continued, knowing Tobin was stressed without being anywhere near her, “Everything’s okay, we’re still at home, we’re waiting until contractions get quicker. They’ve literally only just started-” There was a beat of quiet as Y/N's voice stopped and Tobin's heart plummeted. Seconds later, Y/N was back and talking and Tobin let herself relax - only slightly though. “I called Doctor Simmons, and she said that I should call her in a bit to see how things are going along bu- Ow!”
“Y/N?”
“It’s okay. It was a contraction. They’re fine at the moment, I’m just not used to them.” Y/N let out a breathy laugh and Tobin had never felt more useless and knew she was close to tears. She stopped walking just as they were about to get on the coach.
“I want to be there with you.” She whispered into the phone, managing to swallow back the lump in her throat and do her best to blink away the tears - if they started they may not stop.
Y/N softened her voice, “You can be soon, right? Are there any flights that-”
Tobin sniffled slightly, “They’re cancelled, a storm-”
A hand pressed lightly on the Tobin's back and a hand took the phone out of Tobin's. Christen put the call onto loudspeaker and smiled at Tobin, “But we’re gonna drive up to you.”
“Hi Chris.” Y/N called out.
“We’ll be there as soon as we can.” Christen was saying it to Y/N, but really meant it for Tobin as she looked into her eyes and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. Tobin took a deep breath and nodded silently.
“Okay, I’ll see you soon. Please be safe.”
Tobin nodded before realising she needed to speak and stepped towards the phone, and towards your voice, “Of course, you too.”
“Oh, we’ll be fine, Tob.” Tobin could hear your smile and her heart swelled. She was going to get to see you again so soon and everything would be fine. She took the phone back from Chris and pressed it to her ear, taking it off loudspeaker as she got onto the coach.
“I’ll call you as often as we can, I need to pack my stuff at the hotel, and then we’ll start driving, I’ll call you then?” Tobin asked.
“Okay, I love you.”
Tobin sat down in her seat and put her head back on the headrest, “I love you too."
“I’ll let you go pack.”
“Okay, I love you!” Tobin shouted one last time just before you could hang up and turned to Chris, grinning.
Chris smiled back, “Let’s do this.”
Tobin's shoulders relaxed slightly and she nodded, “Yeah. Okay, let's do it.”
It had been hours upon hours of waiting. It felt like eternity. No one you had ever spoken to about birth had actually told you about the hours of waiting. It wasn't even too bad all of the time but you were inpatient - and also sometimes it hurt.
After ages of sitting and timing your contractions, they finally got to the point where you could be taken to hospital. Where you then spent even longer waiting.
Although, despite waiting so long, Tobin still wasn't anywhere to be seen and now it was too late - there wasn't any more waiting to be done.
"Y/N, you're going into labor." Your midwife came to your side and took a look at your vitals before fiddling with one of the wires by your side.
"What? No."
"I know you're waiting for your wife, Y/N, but your baby is ready and there is nothing we can do." A few more nurses in scrubs came in and out of your room and you shook your head, feeling overwhelmed for the first time throughout the whole process.
Perry walked through the doors and you tried to sit up slightly, despite the discomfort.
“Is Tobin here yet?” You asked, desperately, crossing your fingers on the off chance that it would magically help and conjure your wife.
“No, I'm sorry, but she’s on her way. She’ll be here soon.”
Your breathing picked up slightly and you looked up to your midwife, “I want to wait for her.” You tried to blink back tears, “I don’t want to do it without her here.”
The midwife pressed her lips together and shot a look to the other midwife who shook her head, “You’re nearing 8 cm dilated, as I say if she takes much longer we may not be able to wait.”
Tobin's mom appeared at your side and brushed your hair back and away from your face, guiding you back so you were laying up on the pillows, “It’s okay, Y/N, it’ll be okay.”
What felt like another contraction ripped through your body and you squeezed your eyes shut to prepare for the pain, which only increased the more time passed.
“Okay, Y/N? You’re going to have to start pushing for me.” You heard the faint words from one of the midwives in the room and you gasped slightly, shaking your head.
“No, wait-”
Another midwife was beside you, “Y/N, just take a deep breath.”
You shook your head again, “I just-,”
“Focus, okay?”
You glance at the door and whimpered with pain, nodding, “Yeah, okay.”
“Good. Okay, push.”
“You’re doing so well.” Cindy smiled at you, squeezing your hand - although nowhere near as hard as you were probably squeezing her hand. The pain felt like it was doubling and trebling and when you thought it couldn't get worse, it would double again. You pressed your eyes shut as hard as you could.
The midwife next to you nodded, “Okay, deep breath and-”
You did your best to open them as the pain subsided slightly and the midwife gave you the next direction. As you opened them the door opened. The midwife was about to shout at the intruder but before they could you gasped, “Tobin?”
She rushed to your side and immediately took hold of your hand, “Hi.”
You let out a slight sob as you breathed out, “Hi.” A sense of safety and relief coursed through your body and it seemed to pause the pain... until it came crashing back and caused you to squeeze both Tobin and Cindy's hands as hard as you could.
“Okay, Y/N? I need you to stay focused with me, ready?” You grunted out a confirmation and nodded as you gritted your teeth at the pain and continued to do as the midwives said. It felt like a blur and as though you could hardly hear what they said and yet your body knew what to do. It was all just easier with Tobin here. “Good, I can see the head. One more push for me Y/N, you’re almost there.” You let out a cry of pain at the final push before letting your head fall back against your pillow, “There we go!”
You panted and tried to lift your head, “We’re done? The baby-” You asked.
Tobin appeared in front of you and held your face between her hands, pressing soft kisses all over your face, “You did it.” She whispered, grinning.
You lifted your left hand and put it over hers, “You made it.” She nodded and licked her lips.
“Just in time, I’m so sorry.”
“No, no, don’t be.” You allowed yourself to get lost in her eyes for a moment, soaking in the emotions of security and pure love.
One of the midwives spoke up and the two of you parted to look at her, “We’re just going to check your newborn over and-”
“Is everything okay?” Tobin stood up straight, her hand finding yours instinctively and the midwife smiled, nodding.
“Of course, just a routine check,” She instantly reassured you, before lifting up a tiny little thing in her arms, “You want to meet him first?”
“Him?” You asked.
Tobin squeezed your hand, hard, and whispered, “Yes. Please.”
“Are you ready?” She gently lowered your little baby into your arms and for a second the whole world just stopped and it was just you, your son and your wife, together. “You’ve got a beautiful little boy here.” She beamed, helping you get comfortable, “He’s healthy and- and loud.” She laughed as he let out a loud cry.
Tobin let out a laugh too, putting her finger to his little outstretched hand, and he immediately closed his fingers around hers, “He’s got a pair of lungs on him, huh?”
“Hey baby, hi.” You laughed, waving at him. He immediately stopped crying and looked up at the two of you with soft brown eyes, “Tobin-” Your breath caught in your throat and so you just stopped and looked at him in awe.
“He’s amazing. You’re amazing.” She laughed and pressed a kiss to your forehead and then very gently leant down to kiss his little head, “Look at us, our little Cody.”
“Cody Asher Heath.” You nodded, you'd already decided on a boy's name, as well as a girl's name, just in case. Luckily, this name suited him perfectly.
The midwife leant down to pick Cody up, “Amazing, we’ll just get the cord clamped and cut and then I’ll just be a moment.” She took him away and you sighed, watching her every move with him.
“I told you I knew it was going to be a boy.” Tobin whispered from beside you.
You smiled and raised an eyebrow, “Mother’s intuition?”
She hummed and nodded, “Something like that.” She looked around the room as you watched them wrap Cody up in a new green blanket. Her mom had left pretty quick to pass the good news on of the healthy birth and let the two of you meet your son alone, “Do you want to rest before we see everyone?”
“No, no, I’m not tired, I’m fine,” You shook your head and shifted your body to prove you were fine (and although it hurt you did your best not to wince - Tobin still noticed), but your gaze was still on your son, “I want Cody back.”
“I know, me too.” She laughed, finding your hand and linking her fingers with yours. Whilst she let you worry about Cody, her attention was on you, “And you’re sure? It’s been a long day for you.”
You nodded, firmly, “I’m sure.”
“Hey, look, we’re back.” The midwife returned with a wrapped up bundle.
“Hi baby.” Tobin peered over the blanket and Cody blinked up at her.
“Look, Tobin.” You smiled, "Here, you take him."
“If you’d like to sit down here, Tobin then I can pass you Cody for a little cuddle." The midwife gave Tobin a chair.
"Really?" Tobin looked to you, her eyes full of emotion. You nodded and she sat down, holding out her arms. As soon as Cody was in her arms you knew tears were inevitable. It was the way they looked at each other that made you go all soft. Tobin was completely transfixed, “I can’t believe this. Look at his tiny little hands.” She laughed, letting Cody take a hold of her finger again.
“Is your family still here?” You whispered, resting your hand on her knee.
She looked up to you and nodded before immediately looking back down at her son, “Yes, yeah, my family are just out with the girls waiting.”
“So can we take him to meet everyone?”
“Of course, whenever we're ready. There’s no rush.”
“Our little Cody. The perfect little bundle.”
Tobin hummed and brushed the green blanket to the side, kissing his nose and cheeks before looking up at you and laughing, “He looks just like you, he’s beautiful.” Cody gurgled slightly and waved his hand out of the blanket, “Hello baby, hi.” You just lay in silence, watching your little family, heart pounding with love now.
The midwife stood at your side and smiled, “Okay, Y/N, we’re just going into the last stages now. Not much longer and we can welcome your family into the room.”
You nodded, “Thank you.” and returned your gaze to Tobin and Cody.
As nurses worked around you, you hardly noticed the later stages or what they were doing. Only paying enough attention to do what you were told when you were told. For the most part, your eyes were glued to Tobin and the little human she was holding in her arms as she swayed gently to and fro, dancing around the room and humming to your new baby son.
Eventually you were sat up in bed, pain medication in your system, and feeling a lot better. Tobin had placed Cody in your arms again as she popped her head out into the corridor and you immediately heard a little wave of squealing before someone shushed them all.
Tobin cleared her throat, “Guys?”
“No freaking way.” Someone muttered, followed by a suppressed squeal.
"Do you want to come in and meet our son?" You could see her grin as she moved the door open wide. The pride of being able to call Cody your son radiated off her and she turned and beamed at you as the teammates that had joined for the road trip gathered behind her.
"It's a boy?" Ash asked.
"Oh, no way." Sonny grumbled, pouting her lips and folding her arms over her chest and she rounded the corner.
Pinoe came next and looked at everyone with a grin, "You hear that everyone? Guess Aunty Megan is just the best Aunt in the world and now the richest because you all owe me."
"Guys, quiet." Chris had entered first and was doing her best to keep everyone relatively contained. It had been a long journey and then a long time spent in the waiting room, in their defence.
She came over to your side and smiled at your first, "Y/N! Hi."
"Hey Chris." You suppressed a yawn and sleepily smiled back.
"You're a mom!" She cheered and put her hand over yours, looking down at Cody in your arms.
You let out a chuckle, hardly believing it yourself, but you nodded all the same, "I am!"
"You have a son?"
"We do." You looked back down at Cody too and felt a tingle through you body at the sweet sight of him curled up in his new blanket.
She leant down gently and whispered, "Hi baby Tobin."
"His name is Cody."
Chris' eyes lit up and she nodded. "Cody? Can I?" She sat on the chair next to you and you nodded.
"Of course." You said. Tobin, who was watching from just next to you, got up and lifted Cody so gently to Christen.
"He's beautiful." Christen mumbled, cradling him in her arms protectively.
Kelley nodded, "He is! He's going to be such a great soccer player." She grinned at Tobin who smiled back.
Megan hummed from the corner and shrugged, "I actually have a feeling he's going to be into basketball, y'know?"
Sonny perked up and raised an eyebrow, "Want to bet?"
"That went so well for you last time." Megan smirked but still made a bet all the same. Although this time it was going to take a bit longer than 9 months to get the outcome for it. Neither of them would forget about it though.
Ali rolled her eyes at them and shook her head, taking a step closer to Cody and kneeling down next to Chris, "Whatever he does, he is going to be the best because he'll have a whole team of aunties on his side, huh little one?"
There was a moment of silence as everyone glanced loving at him before Kelley cleared her throat and turned her phone screen to you, "Is it too early to admit I've bought him a skateboard?"
You frowned, "What?"
"Like literally just now, it's being delivered in 2-3 days." She smiled, and showed you a picture of the order confirmation.
You blinked a few times and looked between her and her phone, "He... can't stand?" You said, although it came out as more of a question. Maybe you were too tired to make sense of this right now.
Kelley shrugged, "That's fine, I'll just hold him and I'll go on the skateboard so he can just get use to the feel of-"
Your eyes snapped open and you grabbed your wife's hand, "Tobin, tell your teammates they are not allowed to hold our son when they are on fast moving objects."
"Kelley, Y/N says-"
Kelley put her hands up and nodded, "Yeah, no, I heard. It's fine, I'll just give it a few weeks," You frowned at her and shook your head, "Months?" She looked to Tobin who was scratching her head. Tobin glanced at you before also shaking her head, "Years?" You kept shaking your head and made a mental note to never let Cody go off with Kelley on his own. "You're killing me, come on!"
Ash peered over her wife's shoulder and smiled, "Guys, can I hold him?" Ali quickly shook her head.
"Do not let her hold him, I guarantee she will try to steal him."
"I won't! He's just so cute. Wait until Sloane and Cody start having playdates together - it'll be the cutest thing to hit this planet." Ash sighed and squeezed Ali's shoulders before placing a quick kiss on her cheek.
Ali sighed and stood up, "We should go and let you guys have some down time. And by down time I mean you will never sleep normally again until he's gone off to college."
"So negative." Sonny grumbled.
"I'm sorry, it was a joke - kind of?" Ali tried to take it back but Ash just took her hand.
"Yeah, we don't sleep a lot... But well done guys. I'm proud of you and so excited. Please call us if you ever need anything."
Megan looked up from pulling her coat on and nodded, "Yeah, same with me or Sue. She can always help him with basketball practice if no one else can."
You smiled and nodded, "Thanks Megan, will do."
"I'll bring the skateboard over for you guys as soon as it arrives, okay? He's gonna be a natural. Ooh! Thinking of ordering a surfboard right now, okay? Like a cute little surfboard for little babies." Kelley brought out her phone again and squealed, "Look at these, they are so cute! Okay, right, I want a baby."
You tried to interrupt her shopping spree, "We really don't need a surfboard, Kelley-"
She shrugged you off and held out her phone to you again, "It's bought! It'll take like three weeks shipping so Cody will have to wait but I think it'll be worth it!"
Sonny frowned and took her phone out, "Wait, you bought a skateboard and a surfboard? What irresponsible purchase does that leave for me to make?" She frowned and chewed on her lip, giving it her all to think of something else.
Kelley shrugged and linked arms with her, "Come on, Sonny, you can think it over on the way home."
Emily nodded and started to walk away with Kelley, thinking aloud, "Okay, okay, I'm thinking something to do with... fire! That's fun, right?"
"What? No. Where did that come from?" Kelley looked at Sonny with an exasperated face.
Sonny shrugged, "I don't know, I'm just under pressure here. I don't think well under pressure."
"Oh my god." You mumbled as the two walked away.
Chris stifled a laugh before looking at you and shaking her head, "Don't worry, I will not let Sonny buy your son... fire?"
"Thanks, Chris."
The three of you were left in the hospital room alone and let the silence drag for a little bit. You were exhausted and Tobin was going out of her way to make you comfy whilst Christen was just smiling down at Cody.
Eventually, she broke the silence, "I am so proud of you guys, honestly. Cody is so lucky to have the two of you as parents."
Tobin smiled and linked her hand with yours. She took a seat next to you on the bed and gave you a look. You nodded and she smiled, looking at Chris, "Yeah, well, I reckon he'll be even luckier if you'd agree to be his godparent?"
"He- I- what?"
You cleared your throat, "Chris, we can think of no one better to ask than you. You're wonderful and kind and- I am so tired so words aren't coming into my brain but trust me, you're everything I'd want any child of mine to be." You smiled, trying to stop another yawn from escaping.
"You guys want me to be his godmother?" She asked, her eyes filling with tears.
"We sat down to discuss it and it literally took us like 5 seconds to determine we wanted to ask you." Tobin laughed.
"Please say yes." You said.
Chris grinned, "I mean, yes, of course."
"Thank god because we had no back up."
"Everyone else wants to get him enrolled in extreme sports by next week." You grumbled, sighing.
"He'll be in skiis by the end of the month." Chris said, jokingly and your eyes widened slightly.
"Please do not suggest skiing or snowboarding or anything remotely similar to Kelley or Emily. We're already getting a skateboard, a surfboard and flipping fire."
Tobin hummed, "To be fair-"
"Don't, I bet you planted the idea of it in their minds, didn't you?" You gasped at the realisation. This was all such a Tobin idea.
She smiled, "Not the fire bit, I don't know where that came from."
"Tobin Heath... you are not taking our newly born son surfing." You grumbled again, this time the yawn couldn't be held back as you tried to blink away the sleep.
"No... Not yet anyway."
"Oh my god." You sighed, maybe not entirely ready for the constant panic you were going to be in when Cody would be taken home with you. All the possible dangers briefly flashed through your head.
Chris nudged you out of your spiral of thoughts and said, "Don't worry, I'm on your side. No surfing, Tobin."
"What? Traitor." Tobin gasped.
You nodded, relaxing slightly. At least someone was definitely on your side, "Thanks Chris."
"No worries, besides he'll be safe with me. We can meditate and do yoga and go on long hikes up mountains and up cliffs-"
"Mountains and cliffs? Okay, it's confirmed, he is never leaving my side."
Je'Taime
This is based off of a movie I saw. Actually basically my favourite song from said movie. Also I thought Emily Sonnett seemed the easiest to write for to start?? If I got any facts wrong at all, please feel free to correct me I'm just getting into soccer so everyone and everything is rather new to me. Can I also just say like a big huge yall r fucking amazing to the people who were like u should try writing for the uswnt who knows yoh might like . Like I wouldn't have had the guts to write let alone post this without yall.
"So its final right?" she asks looking over at you from where she was sitting cuddled up next to you watching a rom-com.
"Yup" you rigorously shake her hand up and down smiling at the slight chuckle you get.
"Never say I love you" she makes sure, still somehow shaking your hand back just as hard.
"Never ever in the history of ever." You relax back onto the couch despite the pang in you heart at never having a chance of properly loving your best friend. "Did you know that's 'ne dis jamais je'taime' in french"
"okay smartypants" Both of you look back at the screen right as the two main characters kiss in the rain just as the stereotype shows. The sadness weighs down your heart and even though a collective "Ew!" leaves both of your lips and you hurry to skip ahead in the movie you still wish that maybe just maybe that could've been you. Maybe someday you think to yourself.
That was four years ago, and despite both of your best efforts, you hadn't met up since. Through the frequent facetimes and random texts you found yourself missing her. Your attraction for her hadn't died in the slightest, in fact it increased and even managed to fuel you into texting Kelley to get her to help surprise Emily. The next time you found yourself off work you booked a flight and landed in Washington D.C. Which is how you're watching her now. Over the fence of a random park in which Kelley had dragged her out to make sure your surprise was successful the cloudy sky above you does nothing to dwell on your mood.
You can only smile at her attempts to kick the ball up onto her finger while still holding her jacket and laughing at the face Kelley is making at her attempts. As soon as Kelley makes eye contact with you your sure to make all signs of your lovestruck smile fall off your face into a grin.
Gathering all of your courage you make your way around the fence and lean against it although Emily is still none-the-wiser to her spectator. "I don't think that's gonna work out for you." Her jacket falls faster than the ball which she manages to stumble on before seeing you and running full speed whilst shrieking out your name.
"Y/N!"
You walk a few steps to meet her halfway before letting out a oomph as she bangs into your chest and stumble backwards chuckling as you wrap your hands around her.
"I take it you missed me?" You smile into her hair still hugging her back.
"I- How- When did you- How did you-?" she pulls back from your hug and stares between you and Kelley.
"Which one of you- Actually how did you." She points back and forth between you two "Is this why you dragged my ass into the freezing rain?" Her question makes both of you laugh and nod before you walk over to Kelley. "Thanks dude" you try to shake her hand as a thank you before she takes it and pulls you into a hug "nuh uh we hug here. I'll take my leave so you two can catch up."
She sees the look exchanged between you both, and the lovestruck smile you've had on your face ever since you saw her. Both of you are still smiling to hard to notice so a half hearted wave is sent by Emily and a soft "bye" leaves your lips.
"When did you get here?" she asks still perplexed
"this morning" You say smiling and holding onto her hand to pull her into the parking lot of the park to lead her into your car as the rain has started and you aren't very eager to catch a cold.
"Movie night?"
She scoffs "of course"
You don't see her lingering glances at you. You've cut your hair, and carry yourself with a new wave of swagger that's oh so enticing. You could say the same about her. She's the same Emily from four years ago, but confident in her stature and still so familiar it's like time hasn't passed at all. She still makes the same jokes and the same exasperated smiles when you say something cheesy. It's a complete coincident that when you see the same movie pop up on your Netflix account you click it.
She comes and settles next to you in her pajamas and you hide a snicker at her penguin onesie. The situation gives you Deja Vu as she cuddles into you at the Movies opening scenes.
You try and motivate yourself into asking the question that burns through you. Halfway through the movie you realize you missed your chance 4 years ago. You won't miss it again. And so you start unsurely.
"Hey uh.. remember the promise we made" The squeakyness of your voice makes you cringe.
"Which one?" Her head tilts back to look at you.
"The never say I love you one. Ne dis Jamais Je'taime?"
Her heart races at the possibility of what your going to say, because she remembers that promise clear as day and how the butterflies in her stomach were forced back into caterpillars because you liking her back was not possible.
"Yeah I remember. Why?"
"I just. I think it's kind of useless now y'know. Because like, it's not true" you pause tearing your hand through your hair to try and find the words.
"I mean. Because I do love you. And not in that platonic best friends way but like the romantic way. It's not a new thing I liked you since I made that promise but I just think that. You should know and I know this probably fucked things up now because I don't know how you feel and-"
She cuts you off with a kiss, and her lips feel soft and sweet and all of your thoughts leave you. Finally when both of your lungs burn you pull back and her forehead rests against yours.
"Je'taime" her words have you pulling her back in again thought you both smile too hard for it to stay a kiss. Behind you the screen reflects you, both main characters kissing in the rain. Someday happened for you and Emily.
Hot Lifeguard (Emily Sonnett x reader)
My first story. Sorry for any mistakes, english is not my first language. Opened for  suggestions.
Tumblr media
It was just another day at work. Days like this were one of my favorites. Just a few people at the beach and less people in the water, that is almost the perfect scenario for a lifeguard. Because normally that means no incidents. My shift was almost over, just one more hour and I could go home to prepare for dinner tonight with my girlfriend.
Right now I am sitting at the cabbing along with Josh, my partner for the day.
“No fucking way” I heard Josh yell while loking at something through the glass.
“What? What did you see?” I asked “You’re not going to believe who just arrived at the beach” “Well, if you give me the binoculars I could see by myself.” “There is no need to. Look at the group over there.” He said pointing to a place in the sand “Okay, I’m looking but I’m not getting it.”
Just as I said that I saw a blond girl running a few meters at the sand and trying to do a cartwheel on the sand and failing miserably, ending with her butt at the sand. Yep, now I know of who Josh is talking about.
“Girl, that is the US women’s soccer team, seems like the whole team is in here.” He was really excited “Josh, clean it right here…” (I rubbed my hand on my chin and he copied me) “Why?” He asked, after seeing nothing on her hand “You’re drooling.” “Oh, fuck up.” She pushes me and keeps looking at the team, it wasn’t the whole team but is probably half of the girls.
“Okay, I’m gonna say hi. Do you wanna come?” Josh asked me “You can go, someone has to stay here and actually do the work.” Josh rolled his eyes but got the walktalk. “Fine, I would tell them you say hi, I’m bringing the walktalk” “Go there looser.”
I was just watching a few surfers at the beach, when I looked to my left and saw Josh coming back with the group of girls following him. He gave me a sign for me to come down.
“So Y/n these are the players from USWNT and girls this is Y/n.” “Hi girls, I actually know you all, I’m a big fan, you’re all badasses.” “Thank you. We heard that so was you.” Ashlyn said and Alex followed. “Josh here went to say hi and told us that his coworker was a woman and a badass so we needed to come check out.” “Well, it’s my pleasure to meet you.”
“For how long have you been working here?” Ali asked. “In this part of the beach not much, but as a lifeguard, 10 years.” The girls were shocked “Oh, 10 years? Sorry to ask but how old are you?” “25” “You can be a lifeguard while you’re 15?” “Yes. I was a good swimmer and at a young age I started to learn surfing, I always loved the water. So one day I got the opportunity to be a lifeguard at a waterpark near home, since then I never stopped. And soon as I had enough experience to be a lifeguard at the beach I moved and here I am.” Tobin spoke this time. “So do you also surf?” Before I could answer, Josh interrupted us “Oh yeah, this is almost like an unofficial rule to be a lifeguard, and Y/n is like the best here. Sorry girls, but I’ll go upstairs and check the beach” “Bye Josh, it was a pleasure to meet you.” The girls said and then looked back at me.
“I’m probably not that good, but yes I can surf.” “We would love to see that, it’s a shame you’re at work.” Tobin answered. “Isn’t your shift ending?” Emily spoke this time, I looked at her and the sun was hitting her face, making her blue eyes shine, she is so beautiful. “Yeah, actually. I have probably just one more hour left.”
“So what about you meeting us after it and we can see how good you actually are?” Ashlyn asked me with a smirk. “That is a challenge Ashlyn?” “You can bet on it.” Ali smacks Ashlyn in the back of her head. “Ashlyn, you can’t go out challenging people.” “Just a moment girls.”
I interrupted whoever was saying, as soon as I spotted something on the ocean. I climbed the ladder from the cabin and called for Josh. “Josh!” “Yeah boss!” “Look at the water, 10 o’clock. What do you see?” “There is noth… shit looks like two people. Maybe kids. Go!” I jump in the sand and get the surfboard. “Sorry girls, and it’s a bet Ash.” I ran as fast as I could toward the people, wishing this day could end as good as it started.
As I was getting closer to them I noticed that one of them was a little girl, around 5 years old and the other was a boy around 12 years old. I was going as fast as I could but it looked like it wasn't enough. As I was about to get to them, the boy pushed the girl up, and sank. Fuck!
“Help! Lucas!” I got the girl, put her over the board and tried to find the boy but he didn’t get back up. What should I do? I looked up and saw the girl was using diving glasses. “Can you lend me this? Okay, look, you see these ropes? Hold them as strong as you can and don’t let them go. I’ll get Lucas.”
I know it look like a stupid ideia, let the girl up there by herself, but if I wait for Josh to get here the boy could be dead. So I got in the water and dived trying to find the boy. I surf back up, check with the little girl, get some breath and dive back. I was almost giving up when I felt something on my left leg and when I looked at it was him. So I get his hand and rise back. “Lucas!!” I got back on the board, laid him down and asked for the girl to sit in front of me holding the ropes. He’s unconscious, I need to get to the beach as fast as possible.
I got to the beach and Josh was already there with the equipment and said he had already called an ambulance. I barely got that, the boy was my first priority, I looked up and saw the national team girls were close. “Hey little girl, you see these women over there?” She nodded. “Stay with them, for me to take care of Lucas okay?” She didn’t want to let go of him, must be her brother. Probably noticing my expression, Emily came over and got the girl, she started to scream. But my focus was somewhere else now. The boy wasn’t breathing, so I started the compression. “Come on, come on. Spit the water. Come on Lucas, you can do it.” I must be doing it for like 1 minute, but it felt like an hour, when the boy spit the water. “Good boy. Calm down, you’re safe now.” I put him on oxigen, and the ambulance arrived just in time as he regained consciousness. “Hey boy, what’s your name?” The paramedic asked. “Lucas.” “Hi, Lucas. My name is Daniel and I’m a paramedic and I’m going to help you okay? How old are you?” “12. Where is my sister?” “Hey Lucas, it’s okay, she is over there, stay calm okay.”
I looked back at the girl and went to calm her down. “Hey little girl, how are you?” She came running for my arms. “Lucas?” She asked while crying in my arms. “He is better now, you see? He is talking with the doctors now. Where are your parents sweety?” “Don’t know.” And as it was agreed the mother shows up. “Lucas? Lucy?” “Mom!” The little girl ran to the women's arms. “Where is Lucas?” “Hi Mrs, my name is Y/N. Lucas is over there being taken care of. Do you know what happened?” “No, I told them that I was going to get some water and when I came back they weren’t there so I started to freak out and I saw the comotion here.” They start to take the boy to the ambulance. “Okay, Mrs…” “Grey” “Mrs. Grey, they are taking Lucas to the ambulance right now, they will check on him, he drowned trying to save his sister, I’m going to explain everything to you until we get to the ambulance, can you just pack your stuff? Are you alone here?” “Yes, my husband is at work. And I already packed everything, it is in here.” “Good, come on. And I would like Lucy to have a check up as well, she hasn’t drowned but she could have drunk some water. We don’t want to take risks right?” With that I went up to the ambulance with the mom and then let the paramedics do their job. I hope the kid stays good.
I went back to the post and Josh was there. “What a way to end the shift right?” “Thank god, I found the boy under water. Otherwise it would ruin the day.” “Yeah, and the super boss shows up again to save the day.” “Stop.” “Fine, now get out of here. There are some people waiting for you. Go have some fun.” I had completely forgotten about them, time to go say hi, again.
Emily pov
We were still excited about what just happened at the beach.
“She is totally a badass, she was just talking with us and still caught the kids drowning in the water.” Tobin said. “When she left the girl alone at the board I was like ‘what is she doing?’ and then she just got the boy under water, that was amazing.” Christen said “That’s why she is the boss.” Ali complement.
“Okay, but let’s not forget how hot she is. When she ran toward the water, it was just like we were in Baywatch, and her body. God!” “Kelley!!” “What Linds, is not like you don’t agree with me you were drooling watching her doing her job.” Kelley fought back. “I was not…” Lindsey said pouting, Megan put a hand on her shoulder and said. “Sorry Linds but you totally were. But that’s fine, she is hot as fuck and I think that half of the girls here were drooling, even the “straight” ones”.  She intensifies the quotation marks.
Then Christen intervened. “She also looks like a good person, she looks smart, determined and kind. You saw her with the little girl?” “Hey, I don’t have a competition do I?” Tobin protested. “Of course not babe, but she may be good for some other girls here. And watch out cause she is coming here.”
I looked behind me and Y/N was coming over, she had changed off her uniform and was now just in her swimming suit, a backpack and a surfboard. She was more beautiful, if that was even possible and hotter.
“Hey girls, my shift is just over. So I remembered that one of you challenged me on surfing. So I want to know if she is still up to it?” Ash stood up “Oh yeah, game on bitch. Tobs, Kell are you coming?” “Of course, let’s go.” Both of them replied.
Some girls went along with them for the water, others decided to take a walk on the sand and others were just going to lay and get a tan. Before Y/N followed the girls to the water she came near me. “So, beautiful, can I put my stuff here near you?” “I think so.” “Good, you’re not coming?” “Not today.” “Okay, be right back.” She winked at me and left toward the ocean.
I sat back in the sand and just watched her get some waves with the girls, she was stunning. Of course she was winning the challenge, but who cares, everyone was just amazed by her.
I was contemplating her beauty when Moe sat beside me and asked. “So, are you gonna spill the beans?” “There is nothing to spill. Don’t know what you are talking about?” “You sure do. If you do nothing the others will keep flirting with her and who knows what could happen.” I look at her shocked. “It’s in your eyes Sonny.”
An hour later everyone came back from the water and we went to play some footvolley. We paired everyone up and Y/N ended up being my partner. She was amazing at that and we had a lot of fun. She was flirting with me the whole time and I was hoping the girls weren't noticing it.
We stopped playing and were getting ready to leave, when Kelley whispered in my ear. “You better do something girl, she is flirting with you the whole day, everyone noticed. If you don’t do something we will.” “I don’t know what you are talking about.” She just shaked her head and went toward Ash and Tobin, whispered something to them and they went to Y/N.
“So Y/n, we had a lot of fun today and we really wanted to get to know you better. Tell us a little bit more about you.” Tobin asked. “Well, you already know I’m 25 and am a lifeguard. I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in exercise and sports science. I give surf classes for kids and I’m also a coach for some amatour surfer athletes. And I’m a sports lover.”
“Wait, too much information. You’re a surf coach?” Ashlyn asked incredibly. “Yeah? Sorry but you were the one who made the bet.” “That explains a lot.”
Becky was the one to speak now. “You went to Virginia? That’s awesome me too, so does Moe and Sonnett, but it doesn’t have a beach there.” “Yeah, I know. I took a pause from the beach while I was studying and worked at a waterpark over there.”
“I got a question…” Oh no, Kelley shut up. “Are you single?” With that Y/N wined her eyes and blush a little, she looked at me and then back to Kelley.
“No?” “You don’t seem too sure about that.” Tobin interjected. “I mean, no, I’m not single. But we haven’t told anyone besides family yet, so…” “Wait a second, so you’re not single? Are you sure? I’m way confused right now.” “Yeah, I’m sure. She actually loves soccer, she loves you guys.”
While the rest of the girls started asking other questions for Y/n. Kelley looked at me with a ‘sorry dude’ look. I understand why she was like that, I mean Y/n was indeed flirting with me, everyone was probably confused as to why she was flirting with me if she has a girlfriend. But they were clueless and I was having a lot of fun with it, so I decided to enjoy it a little bit more and so I spoke up.
“Hey Y/N we actually have the whole day off, so we were thinking of hanging out together and going out for dinner. What do you say? Wanna come?” Y/N looked at me with a intrigued look, but agreed either way. “Yeah, I would love to.”
“Your girlfriend would be okay with that?” Ashlyn asked. “Yeah she wouldn’t mind.”
“Maybe you can call her right now and talk to her just to make sure?” I said, Y/n was really confused right now, she was trying to understand what I mean with that. I just nodded and saw a smirk appear on her face. “Yeah, that will be great.” Some girls looked at me, don’t getting what I was doing. Christen added. “And if you want to invite her, you said she was a fan, we can surprise her if you want to” “Of course, it will be fun”.
Y/n got her phone and made the call. “So who is gonna talk?” Y/N look at me and I nod toward Kelley. “O’hara you think you can do it? She would love that?” Y/n asked “Of course. What's her name again?” “Oh, you don’t need that” She looked at her phone and back at me, I gave her a reassuring look as she started to talk.
“Hi babe. So I’m at the beach now, and there are some girls here that want to say hi to you.” She put on speaker for everyone to hear. “Hi. It’s Kelley O’hara here, and you are talking with half of the national team.” Silent went over the line, the girls started looking at each other and Y/n spoke.
“She is probably in shock, can you tell her about the dinner?” “Yeah, so we just asked Y/n if she wants to come to dinner with us and we also would like to invite you, so what do you say?” I waited a moment and answered on my phone. “I would love to, but I thought that as I was the one who made the invitation I was already invited.”
Everyone looked at me and then back to Y/n, they were in shock. Y/n has that stupid smile on her face that I love so much and answered. “That’s good babe, can’t wait.” We just kept looking at each other's eyes. Oh god, I love this girl so much. When Kelley yelled.
“Wait a minute. Why did you call Sonnett?” “Well you asked for me to call my girlfriend. So I did.” Y/n spoke with a smirk on her face “The Emily Sonnett, this girl here is your girlfriend?” “Hey, what do you mean by that? I can’t date a hot girl?”
With that I went to Y/n side, hugged her and she gave me a peck “And you let me, no, you let us, drool over you girlfriend and didn’t say a thing?” I couldn’t get the smile out of my face. “It was funny and I didn’t know yet if she was going to be okay with that.” “That is no excuse, you should have told me, it is not like I was going to tell the world.” Kelley complained and crossed her arms on her chest. “Okay Kelley, less drama. We are happy for you Sonny.” “Thanks Chris, someone here is mature.”
“Wait, does it mean that now we have to give Y/n the shovel talk?” Tobin asked with a serious face. “No!” I protest. “Sorry Sonnett, we have to, it's the team's rules.” Ash responded. “That’s okay babe, I can take it.”
“Fine, but only if Moe gets to be there.” “What? Why? Moe can’t hurt a fly” Becky said. “Because she will make sure you don’t scare Y/n away, she will be on her side.” “Why would she do that?” “Babe you can’t ask Moe that, just because she is my friend.” “Wait, Moe knew?” Kelley said, trying to look hurt. “Way to throw me under the bus Sonny.” Moe complained.
“Of course, she helped me with the plan of asking Y/n out. We studied together, you forgot?” “Of course you were all Cavaliers. That’s it Y/n you are coming with us for dinner, there is no space for debate. We need to see if you are good for Sonnett. Let’s go everyone” With Megan orders everyone start to go back to where the vans were. I got my stuff and I was about to follow the girls, when Y/n pulled my arm.
“Hey hot stuff, I missed you.” She passed her arms over my shoulders and I hugged her waist. “Hi babe, I missed you too. Sorry about doing it without asking you first. But when the girls pulled over and I saw which beach we were at and that you were here, I started thinking about it, and then you were so hot saving the boy, and the girls liked you so much, and they saw you flirting with me, so…” I was interrupted by a kiss. Y/n ’s lips were so soft and rough at the same time. The way she pulls me closer to her and deepens the kiss, I miss her so much.
“That’s okay honey. I loved meeting your teammates.” “What do you say about us skipping dinner? I really missed your lips...” I kissed her lips. “Your neck...” I kissed her neck, and started to touch her body. “I missed all of this, your body is perfect.” She gave a large sigh and pushed me away “Even though I would love to go to our house and make out with you for the rest of the night. I'm sure the girls wouldn’t approve of it. Let’s go, as soon as we get to dinner, sooner you can get this body.” “Nooo, I’m really regretting telling the girls today.” “The good point is that now you don’t have to sneak out anymore, you can always say you are going out with your girlfriend.” “Okay, but one last thing.” I gave her a passionate kiss, until we heard the girls yelling at us from afar. “I love you Y/n.” “I love you too Em. Now let’s go.” We intercalated our hands and walked to where the girls were waiting for us. This night was amazing and now I can say to the world that the Hot Lifeguard is mine.
