The thing about watching a procedural is you have to accept from the get that it is going to be light on actual procedure; the work is slow and boring and there are limits to the efficacy of those procedures. Forensics, for example - pretty much every discipline of forensics is subjective, not objective truth like TV would have us believe. Fingerprints, blood splatter, ballistics, profiling, etc, is all open to interpretation (and abuse), not cut and dried truth. And so we have to watch these things with a willing suspension of disbelief in order to enjoy them; if we expect realism from a procedural we'd be pulling our hair out. That's fine; as elements of storytelling, and not fact, it all makes for good entertainment.
But I do think it's important that they at least try. To be genuine, to reflect the limits of what people in these jobs can do, how they're restrained by rules and regulations - that can be entertaining, too! SVU has always wobbled furiously over that line; sometimes the reality of the job is the hallmark of the story, sometimes their behavior is simply fantastical. And sometimes when the show throws every convention of police work out the window it can be fun! Elliot and Olivia would've both been fired twenty years ago in the real world; we're here for drama, not for a seminar.
But sometimes the ways in which the drama violates the actual procedure of the procedural can be jarring, distracting from the actual story. I'm pretty sure that whoever wrote last night's episode has absolutely no idea how police work actually works. The bumbling way they tried to shove Amanda in there ("you're not short staffed anymore" -> immediate cut to the captain and a civilian going to a crime scene instead of the two detectives in the bullpen, for some reason; making her requalify to carry a weapon - she's still not a cop!! Oh my God!!! What the fuck; having Amanda tell the guy they investigate sex crimes and having Liv tell him the girl needs a rape kit, and in so doing they both out that girl's assault to her fiance before the girl has a chance to talk to him or even consent to that disclosure, etc) broke the fantasy for me. Instead of enjoying the ride I kept thinking "what the fuck are they doing?" The way she got the guy's DNA? There's no witnesses, no cameras, just a civilian alone - any decent lawyer could have a field day with that whole setup. How was that the best they could do?
It doesn't matter ultimately; this show as a whole has just as many head scratcher episodes as deeply compelling ones. This episode isn't uniquely awful, and there have certainly been much, much worse episodes than this. I just always think about the episodes the morning after they air, so these are my thoughts on last night, which can be summed up I think like this:
There were other, less forced ways they could've brought Amanda into the narrative, and we need to start sending writers on ride alongs with cops again.

Now that Kelli has been gone for a bit, I feel like I can get this off my chest: Wolf Productions done fucked up.
Not for the first time, and not right from square one. But gosh, what a waste.
Kelli Giddish's Rollins was the only female character with the depth and acting chops behind her on the show since Cabot was a regular. She showed up and was able to go toe to toe with Mariska in carrying episodes - both personally related to her character, or to cases - not to mention had electric chemistry with Benson (sexual or not, take your pick).
With all the flack that SVU had taken over the years for not having a more diverse cast in regards to sexuality, Amanda was the earliest and best opportunity they had to develop a complex, interesting storyline of an adult woman coming to her sexuality late in life. I am not even necessarily the most ravenous Rolivia Shipper out there, but I'm heartbroken that they took Amanda's character over the years into the most boring, obvious, dissatisfying of directions.
I adored Amanda's wild/problematic side. Her episodes with her fighting with Amaro, dealing with her gambling addiction, shooting her sister's ex, or going rogue undercover are my favorite episodes of basically the last 10 yrs of the show. It was so good to finally have someone in the squad who was easier to relate to in a real-world sense. Someone who went to a Big Girl job in the day, but in the off hours was a mess with a rebellious streak.
It was always my hope that they would turn around the storylines where she seemed to chase men that were purposely bad for her, into a realization that it was because she was more emotionally into women. It fits so perfectly with her childhood, her background, and had ready-made holes in existing canon where they could have written it in with ease. (Pretending to be Liv's gf at the sperm bank, the remarks she makes in the episode Plastic, questioning her second pregnancy, etc.)
Instead, they had Carisi mope after her for years, all through the seasons where she showed no interest in him. I lost 50% of my respect for Carisi when he had that sulking tantrum after she fucked the bartender in Intent (a sexist double-standard btw, which would have never flown with fans if it had been Rollins pouting bc Carisi turned her down), and the other 50% after Carisi became ADA, with the writers seeming to then write him as rather victim-blaming.
The biggest irony, in my opinion, is that Dick Wolf complains that giving the fans EO will make the show too 'soap opera-y,' when what he/they did with Rollisi and Kelli's exit was far and away the most soap opera-esque thing they ever wrote! Fuck off with that obvious shit! Oh, the once-troubled blonde who is now straight as an arrow, rides off into the sunset with the Catholic altar boy and trades her powerful feminist position for a 9-5 (don't come for me, there's nothing wrong w being a professor, that's not the point here) and her two kids. Eat all of my ass, Mr. Cis-het, White, Only-Primetime-Billionaire Wolf. 🙄***
To make matters worse, they specifically brought in a POC actress to play a bisexual character, only to write her out as fast as possible for absolutely no discernable reason!?! The utter waste of what they did with Kat Tamin is an equal travesty. Give me Kat waking up in Amanda's bed. Give me Amanda making pancakes for breakfast and Kat carrying the kids to the table. Give me anything but the bullshit, Caucasian tripe that they sold us with Rollisi!!!
*takes deep breath*
And if - IF - the powers that be couldn't think beyond the end of an average-length cock when it came to Rollins, then for the love of all that is holy: her chemistry with Sergeant Khaldun was 1) vastly more believable 2) hotter 3) more diverse as an overall cast option and 4) less cringeworthily obvious.
I have loved SVU since I was 16 yrs old, and even though I gave up watching it around The People v. Richard Wheatley (for reasons unrelated to this specific rant), I still lurk in the background and keep myself vaguely caught up. But it's getting impossible to defend a lot of the choices they have made in the last three or four years. Good talent is so hard to hang onto these days in H'wood, and Dick Wolf seems just as, if not more, determined to fuck up his show as Chris Carter was in the 90s with TXF.
Thanks for coming to my TED Rant. 😮‍💨✌🏻

Happy Thursday hoes, let’s get to it!
Todays pros: citytv thinks im in TO so I’m getting it started at six!
Cons: no subtitles.
Alright, OG up first.
Love this new detective that’s a fanboy of everyone, makes me miss rollins lol
Pls let it be a female perp. We love a good female perp.
Okay seriously, this very subtle shaky cam is fucking terrible and hurts my head.
The GROAN I let out at the sight of Samantha in her well fitted pants suit sitting there like a fucking badass pissed off look on her face. Ma’am. Please. (yes, she is the only reason I watch this show)
Okay, the pedo may be the only eye witness, but they still have blood on the murderers pants, don’t they? Would that not tie it together enough? Or is it because the eye witness was the one who lead them to him? God I hate the legal system.
I REALLY wish this show would show more of the arguing between Nolan and Sam, like these two do NOT see eye to eye or have the same opinions on basically anything. And while I know major fighting would be called unprofessional, we at least used to see the lawyers get into it, or bantering. There’s so many times that you can tell just by the look of her face that Sam’s pissed, that she doesn’t think highly of him or his decisions on cases, like she hates him. I wanna see that play out on screen LOL
SVU time!
Let’s see if this week is any better than the last ones
Liv back in therapy, we love to see it.
A crumb of EO? Will that keep the crazies at bay? (like, I don’t even ship it but fuck am I sick of it now, the baiting is hella annoying and terrible, make it happen or not, don’t keep leading the actual ship fans on…)
Uhhh… is there not some kind of patient dr confidentiality? Like this bitch could have just lost her job (esp with someone like mcgrath involved… wtf..)
ITS THIS KIND OF SHIT THAT MAKES ME FERAL. In previous episodes they’ve had situations where shrinks couldn’t testify when they were the ONE witness, and like the entire case went into the trash because of it based off this exact type of situation… where TF is the continuity??
Okay… so she’s a minor so I can see the loophole here, BUT the therapist should have told her parents….
I knew it wasn’t the math tutor…
Ok… so mcgrath threatens to kill the math tutor, but when they’re picking up the son across the street he goes rage on benson?? And the iab captain? Shouldn’t you be attempting to punch the kid or something? God I really hope this ep is his last…
“can you drop that to me?” good thing Bruno’s there cause fin would have ZERO ideas on how to do that…
“until the age of 25 the male brain is about as useful as an electrified meatball” jfc… that wins for best line of the night.
Where the fuck is Velasco? Like.. man deserves his paycheques too..
Okay, mcgrath’s wife needs to shut the fuck up, liv’s trying to help her daughter and she accuses liv of gunning for mcgrath’s job.. jfc..
I was expecting mcgrath to throw hands not pull out his fucking GUN jfc… and like.. that was infront of two cars, that’s gonna be on a dash cam somewhere…
This is one of those one case turns into 4 but there’s only 5 mins left of the episode… cmon…
“I guess I didn’t see it in myself…” THANK YOU I was just gonna bring up the whole half assed back plot of mcgrath being abusive… (which is on par for cops, and ironic that the woman playing his wife was the wife of a cop who abused/raped her in 1.o)
This very much seems like a good bye. Pls let it be a good bye. Petition to bring back Garland!
Okay… im confused, I looked at my phone for 5 seconds and lost track of what was happening. Is the iab captain joining svu, cause that doesn’t work…theyre both captains. Or is she saying she’ll be filling in for mcgrath in the meantime??
Onto OC!
Okay, I am incredibly thankful for carisi on oc, but he’s the *sex crimes* ada.. not the only Manhattan ada, he wouldn’t be prosecuting this case… lol
Me: “wait I thought he was an officer.”
Reyes: “detective?” *side eye*
Me: ah yes, okay he was promoted the writers didn’t forget between weeks.
God this entitled pos teenager… wtf… its not *your* house bitch.
Ah, thank god, here’s the arguing that was missing in OG, not surprised its Elliot. Lol.
Oh god..the bratty teen overheard that didn’t she? Fuck..
God… this girl is gonna blow the entire thing, isn’t she? Like, in todays day and age with all the social media and how teenagers (and some adults) don’t know how to go without it, there’s no way they’d cut contact with everyone and delete socials and keep things quiet.
Aaaaaannd here we go. 5 seconds in and she’s blown their new location. (also WHY would the cops even tell them the location? That seems like something they wouldn’t do until they were halfway there…)
Okay… we’re missing a daughter.. I don’t know if this is supposed to be Maureen or elizabeth but I’m assuming liz as it looks like her kids are twins and she was the twin… Also where’s dickie? (I know the brother said something about someone not being able to get a flight? Im just deaf and without subtitles I couldn’t tell ya what exactly was said lol)
How old is this younger brother supposed to be? The only info online I can find is the actor is 50 which im not sure I believe.
Okay there’s dickie he’s in the background!
These guys KNEW they were in a high risk situation and none of them have a vest anywhere near them? ARE WE DUMB?! IS IT OUR FIRST DAY ON THE JOB?
Okay, there’s the other kid.
Maureen and Kathleen giving side eye while sipping their drinks while the tea is being spilt is the highlight of this moment.
This is SOOO awkward for everyone else at the table jfc… ESPECIALLY Eli’s poor girlfriend.. like. Welcome to the family drama, don’t worry we never have to come back…
Why the fuck did jet not grab the other gun?!
Me: unfazed at Elliot body slamming a teenager.
Bell: *casually* “I’m shot”
Me: ARE YOU FUCKING FOR REAL RIGHT NOW
THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING IF WE FUCKING LOSE HER I WILL ACTUALLY RIOT.
(BUT ALSO MAY WE STEP BACK TO 8 LINES EARLIER WHERE I WAS YELLING ABOUT THEM NOT HAVING VESTS ON?!)
I knew this other captain was going to be coming more into play, but im pissed its cause bell’s out with a gunshot wound.
Christ.
Okay well, another week and OC is continuing it’s reign as superior of the three!
Some pics for context/hilarity

I’ve been seeing a lot of ‘idk why but I just don’t like her/she’s too harsh etc’ and I definitely think a lot of that is just good old fashioned racism and misogynoir, (disliking a BW lead character for no reason is like #1 in the racist fandom playbook lol) as a black woman I also think that how they write/direct—because I’ve seen Shanola in shameless and she definitely has the range—Gabby mostly feels (understandably) impenetrable? Idk it’s like there are no moments of levity or genuine softness and I wish there was a person she could just exhale around? I get that the show starts in the middle when she’d already been keeping this secret for months but I wish we’d gotten to see a gradual progression. But on the other hand I’m always down for ‘difficult’ BW onscreen and Gabby is so mild in that regard because she really just wants shit done and done right. My other tiny nitpick is that I wish the friendships with the team felt more intentional. Everyone is going through it but idk I think them coming off like peers and acquaintances adds to that sense of removal I get from Gabby ?
I don't have a problem with harsh characters at all (Annalise Keating is one of my fave TV characters and probs one of my fave depictions of a complicated and morally gray BW IMO).
I, too, can totally understand Gabi being impenetrable considering all that she's gone through. Also, that there was likely a HUGE shift in her behavior after her father passed away. But I agree, it would be nice to see her have moments where she's not so intense every waking minute. Even in the scene when the team is teasing her about the magazine cover, that would've been a nice moment for her to just be like "Yeah, yeah, okay. I get it lol" Just...something. Gabi is allowed to be serious about her job without being so...humorless. And based on what everyone says about her, she wasn't always like that. This goes back into my issues with Found doing a lot of TELLING but not showing. You can tell us every episode that Gabi has changed, but it means nothing if we don't know what she changed FROM.
I agree that the friendships don't really feel so intentional sometimes. If I take my shipper goggles off, I kind of like where they're going with Zeke & Dhan and I see hints of a friendship between Dhan & Lacey. We sometimes see good moments between Margaret & Gabi. But I sometimes feel like they're falling into the Avengers trap where we're supposed to believe all of these people are close friends, and care deeply about each other, but the emotional points don't really hit.
THIS IS WHAT IT IS!
The found writers don't really know how to really hit those emotional marks unless it's intense discomfort or sadness. I know it's a procedural and not a sitcom, and everything doesn't need to be fun and happy. But, Jesus, even SVU has moments where we watch people banter and crack jokes about the mundane.
I hope they fix this in S2. I really do.

20 questions for fic writers:
ty for the tag, @somewhereapart 🥰
this is very long, so answers go under the cut!!
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
62 as epigraphs
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
i do not actually know! i wrote single chapters in a fic collection years ago, so that messes with my stats and i don't know how long what i wrote was anymore, so i can't do the math. but 2023 was 54,372 words, and 2022 was 113,431!
3. what fandoms do you write for?
currently: the gilded age, technically still svu but uh, let's not talk about that one fic i fully abandoned (at least until that question comes up lolol).
past lives: madam secretary, the west wing, the newsroom, scrubs, sound of music (i'm as confused as you are, don't worry), the good wife, grey's, stranger things, bones, fleabag.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
as epigraphs:
the stillness of remembering, svu the legend of how you disappeared, svu come and untangle me (one of these days), svu let it all unfurl, into broken remnants, svu rather be sad with you (than anywhere away from you), svu
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
i do! i like the concept of having a conversation with readers (though i rarely get into an actual multi-comment convo). also i'm very type-a and pro-inbox zero, so i clear it out in batches to do replies.
6. what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
for you i'd bleed myself dry, for the good wife. it's a post-5.16 fix-it fakeout, and every comment on it is just yelling at me hahaha
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
i think most of mine have a happy ending, even if it's not a true hea. my friend and i coined the term "milk and cookies ending," because even if we throw angst at you, we will give you your milk and cookies as a treat lol
8. do you get hate on fics?
thankfully, no.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
incredibly rarely, and if so, very vaguely and (if you ask anyone who knows me), fairly "limb-free."
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
i've written exactly one (1), imagining what a friendship between cam saroyan from bones and olivia benson from svu would look like!
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
sort of. i never called them out on it, so i shan't be doing that here.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
nope!
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
yep! for two fandoms. for one, we split up the povs and alternated, which was very fun. for the other one, i (see the answer to 9. lol) handed off the smut.
14. what's your all-time favourite ship?
elizabeth/henry from madam secretary was my first real ship and the first fandom i ever participated in and wrote fic for, so they're the ride-or-dies forever.
15. what's the wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
looking at you, eo talks about god fic.
16. what are your writing strengths?
clarity and economy of words? i think? if you know me irl, this makes sense considering my day job. also, keeping things in-character, when it comes to dialogue and internal monologue.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
getting away from vignette structure, writing plot. i hate plot. i suck at plot.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for fic?
hoo boy, as a bilingual person (german and english) i have very strong feelings about this, but generally: okay if done incredibly sparingly, and in a way that sounds natural. harder to pull off than you'd think!
19. first fandom you wrote for?
madam secretary.
20. favourite fic you've ever written?
tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife, svu.

That is true about actors, wanting to move on to do another project, especially if they've been doing the same role for years. That's normal and I can accept that.
But there are times where actors are fired by higher ups who want the show to take a different route. Take for example some Law and Order SVU actors that left because it wasn't their choice at all: Kelli Giddish, Jamie Gray Hyder, Demore Barnes.
That’s true - There are instances where actors are fired/laid off. Either because the directors/writers want to go a different direction, or because the audience didn’t like their character and ratings went down, or a huge number of other reasons. This is a good point.
That is life, unfortunately. Someone higher than you dictates what is done to you/your job. It sucks. I mean, my manager could (theoretically) walk in tomorrow and fire me just the same. Granted, I work a corporate job and don’t know the rules in Hollywood (most likely grossly unfair, but law is not my strong suit and I am not well versed in Hollywood’s culture).
I am not discounting these facts. I think that the headline in the original article is overreacting - there are multiple reasons people have left (or were the equivalent of laid off/fired) from One Chicago. Just like most news/media, everything is blown out of proportion… It didn’t mention in the article about people being fired or forced to leave (maybe I missed it), which is why I didn’t mention it before.

The will they won’t they was definitely the draw to BensonXStabler. Because if they do now what would that even look like? They’re both fucked up weirdos who don’t really want anyone in their space like that. Plus Liv has that kid. To give the fans what they want the writers would basically have to resort to fanfic lol. Because they aren’t gonna be cuddling in front of a movie or taking vacations. These are damaged people who are married to the job and like it that way. At this point they’ll have em make eyes at each other for years drag it out until the last season and then do some underwhelming get together to shut the fans up. And I’ll be glad lmao
lmaooo this is such an accurate drag of that ship. i can’t believe it has shooters like that. every scene with them makes me cringe. i miss the days when the relationships were subtle. they’re beating us over the head with this and i wish they would just put us out of our misery. the one good thing i can say is that it’s good to watch elliott suffer bc he deserves it. svu doesn’t hesitate to show men being down horrendous and waiting for women to sow their wild oats lol. that’s something
i actually wish they ended the shows years ago lol. as soon as stabler came back that should have been the final season. should’ve given the fans a little wink and called it a day. already feels like they’re trying to tie up loose ends (looking at rollins and carisi). i hate to see a show decline bc they didn’t end it when it should’ve been over.

Call me basic all you want but Law and Order SVU is still good after 24 seasons. Like in comparison to NCIS and Grey's Anatomy it's not even a competition. Not only do the characters develop in more interesting ways on Law and Order SVU but the two newest characters in the cast are interesting, well developed members of the team. (Unlike Bishop and half of the new residents. 😒) Even Noah is more relevant to Law and Order SVU than any of Meredith's kids.
Olivia is still shining bright and arguably in the prime of her career while Meredith kinda drifts in and out of relevancy in her own show. Meanwhile Gibbs, who was the only reason I could get through parts of that episode where someone was killed by a fucking garden gnome, is gone now. Even Tutuola stands above major remaining characters like McGee or Owen Hunt because he has a better presence and more consistent writing than either of them.
Hell, Law and Order SVU even does a better job at getting its audience to empathize with the victims shown than NCIS or Grey's Anatomy. Even when those victims are dead like Ada the writers still utilize her parents to humanize her while simultaneously giving her dad a natural arc where his transphobia is addressed and overcome. The victims matter more than that poor fucker on NCIS who literally got gnomed. And the victims certainly matter more than the patients of Grey's who are primarily used for or set aside to fuel the interpersonal doctor drama. Law and Order SVU is more respectful killing off normal victims and guest characters like Captain Duarte now than Grey's Anatomy was when they killed off DeLuca.
Go watch Law and Order SVU. It still holds up well while Grey's Anatomy peaked in season 6 and NCIS peaked in the last episodes of season 7.

This is simply a question based on observations of the asks that have been sent. Why do some anons believe M & N have to return in the premiere? They don't and in my opinion since neither of them had a good reception from the general audience, they should just vanish.
I'm asking because even main characters have been written off television shows before without a proper send off so I genuinely would like to know why anyone who wants to see Buck and Eddie in a relationship want to see the LIs that KR shoehorned into the end of last season come back? The audience isn't owed an explanation for why they would be gone. All it would take is a simple line from both Buck and Eddie saying, "It didn't work out" (Buck) or "I was doing it for Chris again" (Eddie).
People in charge of shows have killed off main characters and/or sent some off to another country (Stabler on Law & Order SVU) or gave them a new job off screen (Jay on Chicago P.D.) to remove them from a show so it's definitely easy to do something similar with two unlikable side characters who shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Finally, if TM is back and KR is now just the co-showrunner again then that should be a good thing since the seasons before KR took over were 1,000,000,000 times better than they were when TM was devoting all his time to LS.
I have no clue why. Those anons that said that should explain why they think M and N need to come back in the premiere.
You’re right anon. All the writers or really B and E need to do is say those words you said above to show they didn’t work out.

15 Questions For The Writer
Tumblr media
1. Are you named after anyone? nope! my mom just liked the name.
2. When was the last time you cried? lol i almost cried today because Hormones. but actually i'm not sure when? it's been a bit... i've done some "tear ups" but i can't recall the last time i actually cried cried. i want to imagine some time in november/october when work was killing me.
3. Do you have kids? does my cat count? she's like five kids in one little eight pound body.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? yeah but mostly in person ( my sarcasm tends to get lost on people a lot in texting... ) or with people who know me very well or i have to include a stupid image with it to show people i'm being teasing. it's almost always teasing sarcasm.
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? i'm not sure? it kind of depends on the situation i think. clothes, seeming age, hair, or physical state are probably the like... first things i really take from a distance since those are usually the most obvious standouts to tell you about the person you're seeing. when i'm looking at a picture or up closer, i actually tend to notice teeth and smile... sometimes skin condition. which i know all sounds really shallow and kind of is, but also i've battled a lot of teeth issues and skin issues so i think i just subconsciously look at those after staring at my own for so long.
6. What’s your eye colour? blue.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? i've never liked watching scary movies tbh. i like watching let's players do scary games and sometimes i like the plots of scary movies, but i never have much an interest in watching them. they just never clicked with me. especially if they're the sort with exceedingly over the top g.ore deaths. i don't mind tension and darkness ( criminal shows like svu for example ), but the main sorts of films to fall under the general trope of "scary movie" aren't really that sort usually. so happy endings by default i guess lol.
8. Any special talents? i can squish my nose flat against my face and i can bend my pinky finger without my ring or middle finger moving.
9. Where were you born? laupheim, germany!
11. Have you any pets? currently just my cat, mazey. growing up i had a cat, dog, a gerbil, and two hamsters.
12. What sport do you play/have played? oh gosh. i currently play soccer, indoor soccer, flag football, and tennis. i have also done swimming, horseback, softball, gymnastics, inner tube water polo, inner tube water basketball, street hockey, wall ball, basketball... i've tried a lot of things, i really love sports.
13. How tall are you? 5'9"
14. Favorite subject in school? idk. i enjoyed art and the marine biology classes i took. i hated math, but i was good at it. i had social studies teachers that were so much fun despite hating the studies... some good english teachers despite not liking most of the topics... uh. can i include college? robotics with legos was my favorite LMAO.
15. Dream job? i mean dream job would be getting to travel whenever i want and never have to pay for anything but not have to create content for it lol. but idk what i want job wise that is like. logical lol. i'm working a pretty cool gig right now i know a lot of people would love, but i'm not sure i would label it the dream position. i'm just kind of... vibing my way through life.
tagging: whoever might wanna do this... or whoever read all my answers tagged by: @yukikorogashi ( thankies! )

should I. should I start SVU. I love OneChicago's characters but don't trust Dick Wolf/the writers... I want a new intense long show but I'm scared to lose my favs to questionable writing again
I mean obviously I'm biased but I would say YES YOU SHOULD. Yes it's a procedural so it's not like prestige TV but I prefer it to Chicago PD. The characterization is honestly pretty steady; Olivia Benson has been on TV for 25 years and they've done a pretty good job keeping her consistent. Not perfect but she's more or less recognizably herself throughout, and it's really compelling to watch one character grow throughout all that time. If you like one Chicago and you want intense and long you kinda can't beat svu, it should be right up your alley. And if you're looking for new couples to ship you can't beat the EO 25 year slow burn, but Liv has other love interests along the way and there's rollisi so you've got some shippy options.
Worth noting there has been iirc a lot more interpersonal drama and shakeups behind the scenes at Chicago PD (I don't know anything about the other one Chicago shows and can't speak to that) than we've seen at svu; given the length of time SVU has been on the air it's had fewer showrunners (and so more consistent writing) than comparable shows, and with mariska and ice to anchor it the whole thing feels pretty cohesive given what it is. There's a major split in tone at s13 but it makes sense contextually and the wounds caused by that rift are being healed by the narrative now and you'd get to enjoy that resolution much more quickly than those of us who spent ten years thinking that was never gonna happen.
Obligatory note here that the subject matter is heavy, but that's true of Chicago PD in parts so.
So. I don't know your preferences but I'd say give it a shot!!! And if you like it pls come back here and yell at us about it 💜

Who in the cast do you think is there for the long haul, who do think is more of a flight risk.
So I wouldn’t use the term flight risk, but I get what you’re asking. There are two special cases so I’m gonna mark them with an * if you wanna skip to. Otherwise here we go.
LaRoyce and Marina
I think these two would be safest bets for series start to finishers if PD does achieve L&O (especially SVU) status. They were based in Chicago before the show started. Their families are rooted, they have lives and careers of their own. That’s a factor. It’s not as easy for them to take a job in NY or LA, especially one with the commitment of a TV series without causing major life changes to their families, either by uprooting everyone, or just by being absent for a good chunk of the year. It happens I know but I can’t imagine it’s easy. And while Chicago is a growing market, I’d imagine they’d still be limited in someways to what’s available to them, especially long term, if they left PD but stayed in Chicago. So I think they’re pretty content to stick around for as long as the show  airs and TPTB will have them. 90/10 on staying I’d be floored if either left in a way that wasn’t a writing/creative choice.
Paddy
While we know he likes to travel he’s also not as quick to leave Chicago during the hiatus as some of the others are. Like Tracy and Jesse. I think he’s put down some roots there that he’s pretty happy with. Idk maybe it’s just him, because he is a chill dude, but he seems very content playing Adam. I’d give 80/20 odds on staying.
Benjamin
Now we’re really getting into my more likely to’s. Idk if it’s just me, I don’t think it is, but the dude is hard to get a read on. However the read I do have is that Benjamin does NOT like to sit still. So being locked into a character for longer than a season, maybe two, might not be for him. And that’s fine and fair. Some actors make amazing careers doing reoccurring roles, or short burst regular stints. And if that’s Benjamin then cool. But again he’s just hard to get a grasp on. So a part of me (and others I know as well) does wonder if the Torres absences this year, was the writers way of getting used, and getting us used to, what we know is coming in season 11, character absences in episodes. I’m gonna go 50/50 honestly. Would not be surprised if he left, but would not be surprised if he stayed either.
Tracy
I think Tracy is always going to be one who is more than happy to stick out her contract, but I don’t necessarily see her re-upping after it’s done. At least not long term. And we know Dick Wolf like his multi-season contracts. But besides that I think Tracy craves new and challenging roles and the downside of playing a character for multiple years is it the challenge fades. And whatever twists and turns the writers try and throw at you really can be boiled down to the same core principles/emotions, the how of it all is just a little different. Some actors are fine with that and do find that different presentation a challenge, which again fine and fair. But others don’t. They still love the character and everything, and they’re cool to come back and play on occasion, but the challenge is gone and they’re ready for a new one. And I think Tracy falls into this later category. IMO 70/30 odds on leaving. I’d be more surprised if she stayed, especially long term, than if she left.
Now to our special cases
*Amy Morton and Jason Beghe
I believe these two are totally content to stay. The way PD is now (though they have the time to change it up) it lives and dies with Jason/Voight. So factor that in. With Amy, similar to LaRoyce and Marina, her life outside of the show is based in Chicago. She’s taken a few guest and reoccurring roles elsewhere, but she likes to stick close to home. So even in the reduced capacity she’s in, which said she’s more than happy with, I can see her being around for as long as she can. Jason is, right now at least, the central figure in PD. He’s top billed, likely best paid, and is now an EP (probably just a figure head thing but still). However time is a factor here for both these two. Dick Wolf has certain rules he likes followed for his cop shows. Certain things that are accurate to real life. Mandatory retirement is one of those things. It’s lead to the departure of other character (on different shows) before. Now we don’t know either characters ages. But Amy and Jason, IRL, are at that age/beyond that age for the CPD. So while there is wiggle room, especially IMO for Voight, it is on the horizon and something that has to be addressed. Right now also 90/10 for these two staying, but it’s season by season.

Alright, happy Thursday hoes, lets get to this.
Mothership first
Okay… interesting open…
Omg…how many times are they gonna use the trope of “don’t touch that!” “who the hell are you?” surprise it’s the new laywer…
Not surprised its another old white dude, but at least he’s not as old as mccoy
Okay seriously…. If they get rid of Samantha I will not be watching this show anymore..
I wonder if they’re going to bring this staff change up on svu too considering this guy is also now carisi’s boss… but the writers seem to have forgotten that these shows all exist together until they want to do a crossover.
If this was svu the ada would be storming into the squad room yelling at the detectives for making a mistake that’s gonna cost them their case. Why don’t we get to see that on mothership? I want more crossing over between departments, cops never show up in the gallery either, just to testify if they’re needed.
Oooo yesss that maroon suit. I see you ma’am!
Man they’re just right fucked with this case aren’t they?
This defence attorney is super crusty
How come these videos are coming up NOW and not before things went to trial??
This judges office is barba’s office. They really only have so many sets, hey? (also the continuity of that office on this show/universe drives me fucking insane).
My subtitles keep cutting in and out and that is also driving me insane
Toronto time.
Will I pay attention? Likely no
JESUS FUCK talk about a cold fucking opening wow.
Big surprise I stopped paying attention halfway through the ep. Like, it’s fully muted right now and I’m working on writing LOL
SVU time
BRUH is this maria stuff ive been seeing all over twitter legit?! I thought people were fucking clowning LOL
Olivia in uniform just fucking makes me so fucking weak every single time
Clearly the other captain hasn’t been in the field a lot if that was her immediate reaction to that crime scene
Okay… hear me out… olivia literally saved maria’s life and stayed on the phone with her ALL night. We all know she has a habit of taking in strays… there’s no doubt maria became a cop because of liv… maria would have reached out TO HER about her graduation, not the other way around…
Velasco getting actual screen time finally. I do have to say, im back on my Velasco bullshit…
LOL. I know it was unintentional but the harshness of velasco’s knock on the door killed me.
4 hours of law and order is too much. Im getting bored and this is the show I actually like. I think imma start skipping Toronto cause mothership does hit some days
If this girl has a good enough lawyer she could easily get off on an insanity type plea… tbh this episode would’ve been way better on criminal minds. That would’ve been bad ass.
This episode is almost over and we got absolutely NO closure on the maria thing AND we didn’t get to go to court. Im OVER this fucking show man lol
Liv being back in her bac nail polish era is bomb though
Fin doesn’t strike me as a scotch guy… this is weird..
Okay… liv is really not okay. Like this girl needs support, she needs proper and regular therapy, she needs a break from work. Go home and spend time with your son instead of drinking cheap wine alone in a bar? Also while we’re talking about drinking alone after work being all sad, can we touch on the fact that her mother was an alcoholic, and that was what *killed* her… this is incredibly worrisome and I doubt we’re ever going to touch on it/get it fleshed out like we should…
Okay we at least got some maria closure. Thank you.
OC time!
Jet *attempting* to control stabler, woof. At least someone’s trying loooll
This bitch is so dead
Part of me feels like its bullshit that se wouldn’t know any of this about her own brother, but also I never talk to my family so…. LOL.
Fuck he’s creepy as shit
There is NO WAY THAT TINY MAN IS THE SAME SIZE AS ELLIOT
The fact that it took THIS long for someone higher up to question his anger/trauma/etc affecting his job is wild.
THE BARTENDER IN ME IS FUCKING DYING. I had a PHYSICAL reaction to that conversation.
“you’ve never had a long island ice tea?!” “I don’t like ice tea it’s too bleh” guy promptly orders two to prove that theyre good? THERE IS NO ICED TEA IN LONG ISLANDS
Cragen’s really just gonna be in the last second of this episode isn’t he?
Everyone: proper ear pieces
Jet: nah. Air pod.
I really thought that stabler was gonna be missing for a like, a good chunk of time with no one knowing.
OHHHH right! The foil he found in the bathroom garbage and immediately licked… right… I forgot about that. Now the question is who it belongs to…..

Well, let's not forget that they wanted to kill off Amanda at first but Mariska said no. I won't be surprised if she made sure they did good to Kelli, I think she is powerful enough to do that at least (but enough to keep her, unfortunately).
With Brian (and Yaya), well maybe the writers were a little more graceful with two characters and give them a good send off for once.
PD always did an awful job with the exit of characters, they always choose the pain, the trauma and unnecessary drama (I hope Tracy break the curse, if she's leaving)
And Jesse is coming back to direct, so I suppose they are not on bad terms.
Truly I'm not well versed in the happenings at SVU, but good on Mariska if she was able to fight for a costar like that.
I agree, PD has had some less-than-kind send offs with Jon Seda and Lisseth Chavez coming to mind first. There's really nothing to be gained by doing that. We can hope that cycle breaks.
The only thing I'll add about Jesse is that he would not necessarily have to be on "good terms" to direct if it was a negotiation agreement during his exit. This is not to say he is on bad terms- I wouldn't know- but sometimes it's just business, you know?

Hiya Moo!!
I’ve been in a huge reading slump lately and the only light at the end of the tunnel seems to be your new Hard Times fic so thank you so much <3
How have you been? Did you in fact cook your Thanksgiving dinner while high? Any new shows you recommend? (I’ve been in a Law & Order: SVU binge for comfort lately)
Love & appreciate you so much, talk to you soon muah
I hope you enjoy the rest of the story! 🖤
I did in fact make Thanksgiving dinner while high and it took several hours longer than intended but I didn't burn myself and it tasted great so I call that a success babeeyy
I've been watching so many shows but honestly nothing new to recommend. Lot of mediocrity. I renewed my Netflix subscription to catch up on the stuff I like but I can only watch those when my partner is home since we both like them and I don't want to watch ahead without him (Dead to Me, Inside Job, Stranger Things, stuff like that), so in the meantime ive been watching their various new limited series and such and WOOF its pretty embarrassing how bad they are.
That Echoes show had an interesting premise at first but they completely fumbled the middle to the end. (The main actress' performance was very underwhelming and gave me ZERO sense of the twins' personalities whatsoever)(though I don't think that's her fault, it's probably the writing/directing). The Watcher was laughably awful from the very beginning and had so many personal opinions of the writer so clearly stuffed into the dialogue that made it feel super preachy and insincere. The Devil in Ohio show was so boring I completely zoned out for the final 2 episodes but I can still tell you exactly what happened because it was very basic and not original or interesting whatsoever. That 1899 show was good until I found out it was plagiarized so now I wipe my hands of it and refuse to give it any acknowledgement.
Granted, I love watching mediocre shows so I'm right at home on Netflix lmao
Though once I'm done watching all the new shows and movies and nature documentaries and rewatching all the stuff I actually like, I'm probably gonna cancel my subscription again because yikes. I prefer not to give them too much money considering they gotta lotta nerve canceling TEENAGE BOUNTY HUNTERS THE FUCKING BASTARDS (listen I'm so pissed about that still)
When I'm not watching some mediocre Netflix series, I'm watching the usuals. Bob's Burgers, King of the Hill, The Great North, Archer, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia (sans the most recent season, which is garbage), Lost, Futurama, you know, the classics. (or I'm watching a million movies ofc)

Well, SVU is doing a good job with half of a ship being gone. So it is doable.
LOL. Yes, it is completely doable - I mean, arguably they do it with Mouch and Trudy too. They are married and we very seldom get a mention of them or see the other on the other show.
They could do it - they could have done this entire storyline differently, but they didn’t. And we have what we have. I don’t know how they rectify it at all…And I don’t know that I trust them with it either. 😂😭💀
The writers track record right now isn’t something I hold a lot of stock in.
