PATHFINDER: WRATH OF THE RIGHTEOUS

I've finished Pathfinder 2, or better said Bugfinder 2.

Pathfinder 1 was a nightmarish game full of bugs. I thought they had learnt from it. I never could finish the last battle in pathfinder1 because the main door was closed, and no matter what you did, it remained so, and the boss had a constant regeneration. This means a super game-breaking bug.

Pathfinder 2 shares this aspect with its predecessor, sadly. And I awaited more than 2 months to play it because I knew it was going to be nightmarish during the immediate release. But no, nope, still bug as fuck.

I'll start with the bad, the ugly, and continue with the good things this game has.

[Spoiler Alert: there is a lot of spoilers ahead]

I only played once. I won't play it more times because the bugs and the puzzles broke my patience. I've chosen Azata path at first, and then Legend.

The Bad

The questlog. This game always had problems to be clear about what to do and when or where. It's good that it has those warnings of “if you proceed, the rest of your non-complete quests will finish as failed”, but it's a bummer that you can't see which one is the main quest.

The maps. Some maps are terrible. You just want to go from point A to B. But no, you can’t do it in a simple way, no. You need to jump and pass some fucking DCs or opening and closing 500 doors, instead of letting the party just go where you want to. Or when you need to cross 300 portals to reach the point B, making all this a waste of time. Honestly, Owlcat should learn that people wasting time inside a game doesn't make it more engaging. Teleport stuff is beautiful. The epitome of this nightmare was in the Abyss: depending on your camera angle, you could block paths and open others. Like... sure, cool trick, but it’s so impractical!. Allow me teleport! I will do this trick just once. It’s a waste of time to pass through a tavern 400 times to go to the different levels of the Abyss.

The Hellknights: They break your game so badly if you reject them. I was like 20 hours into the game when I realised of this. If you don't accept Regil, you are supposed to have a second chance with a NPC called Yanker who appears in the citadel. But he is so bugged that his dialogue ends when he starts to speak. No matter what you do, you can't fix this bug. This ruins completely Sosiel's personal quest.

The paths. I won’t say it’s super bad, but I have mixed feelings. I know a lot of people enjoyed them, so this is almost an unpopular opinion, but... it's so “I'm so speshul”, in an extreme way XD. I get it, in all games, most of rpg, your char is always the speshul one. But with these myth paths it felt out of scale, specially when you can keep using this power and “you purify it?” Like, seriously? I’m not sure how you end up if you keep your powers, since I chose to renounce to them, but everything in my playthough pointed out that the main chair had “purified” the abyss essence of these powers. But Anyways. It gives replayability, they say. However, I'm not going to suffer this hell-of-a-bug game again. Sorry. A lot of wasted time just because the bugs are endless. Also, I followed Azata path, and it felt so meh. I've read angelic and Aeon path are much better, and Azata is one of the poorest paths. Maybe it was because of it, I dont know.

Irabeth's death. This brought me so much frustration. I wanted to protect these wives so much... and ends up that you can't unless you follow a lawful path: angelic or Aeon. Meh. I was heartbroken with Anevia's ending.

The Ugly

The bugs. So many, endless bugs. And despite I did my best to skip them with a mod called ToyBox, some were beyond solution. This was the case of the char I wanted to romance. Same as it happened in Pathfinder 1, bugs prevented me from having a romance :P

The puzzles. I love puzzles, but what Owlcat thinks it is a puzzle is something beyond me. So many unnecessary boring and cryptic puzzles. Why?

The good

Companions!. And this is surprising to me. In Pathfinder 1 I was never too compelled into my companions. The only one who caught my interest was Jubilost, and a bit of Octavia and Regongar and a biiiit Harrim and Jaethal. But because I was forcing myself to pick a party and try to have some interaction with the companions. In general I personally felt they were written in a very boring way. I saw a good improvement in this Pathfinder 2: I can say that I totally loved and was into Ember [please, she is fabulous], Wolif, Sosiel, Nenio and Arueshalae. Which is a lot of chars I liked for a pathfinder game.

Ember: Yes. When I met her I thought she was going to be one of those extremely cheerful and naïve chars that thinks that everything will be ok just if you stay positive. Or she was a too stupid “Saint”.

But no. She is the fucking embodiment of atheism and self-reliance without being a cynical asshole. She is very interesting: she doesn't give you hope in bad times, she basically says “suck it up” and move on. Go on, no matter what. And do it “without her”. This is what stroke me most: she is not asking to be the leader of anyone, she is a true preacher of freedom and self-reliance.

She is kind to others because that's the only thing we can be one another, because we are all doomed in a world where gods care nothing about us. I loved her concept.

And she even turned the devil Nocticula into the Redeem Queen.

I laughed so much about it. Maybe too much, but I supported this weird child.

Sosiel: is another char with the concept of kindness and beauty in his personality. I loved the idea of such a “snob” cleric being in the middle of the war, and most importantly: a cleric who can't give more support to others because the war is overwhelming him and he is losing himself in this madness.

War is changing him. His romantic notions are not realistic. That's a pretty nice, realistic concept. He will end up the game broken as fuck if the main char doesn't give him support. What I was impressed is that you can choose the tender path, but also the cold, stern path, and even a toxic, violent path. He is so naïve that he will accept most of those paths, and will be “trapped” in it. Creepy, but wow.

Nenio: What I can say. She is the embodiment of a true-neutral scientist. Knowledge has a price, sometimes it’s high, but worthy.

Areelu Vorlesh. She is amazing. She is the classical “main mad-scientist enemy”. In the end her motivation was a bit meh, but all her speech of trying to be free of the power of the gods and their decisions is something I always appreciate despite being trifle for some.

Anevia and her wife Irabeth. I loved them. Good to see a pair of lesbians in command doing well. I'm still not recovered that, in my playthrough, it ends up in a “bury your gays”. I did all I could to keep them alive, and I failed. Also, it's nice to see a char like Anevia: she is the cunning smart-street character who always has an ace under her sleeve. These chars tend to be male most of the time. And in this game, it was not only a woman, but a mature one, like, good to see some women are allowed to age <3.

The storyteller. Probably the only char beside Jubilost that I truly cared about in the previous game. This pathfinder 2 gave me a lot of him, and a lot of answers. But due to the amount of ridiculous bugs and tiresome puzzles, I could not reach to complete his story. I truly wanted to know more about him. Also, I felt so glad when he presented his “partner”, written in a way that suggested he had a romantic partner, but then... the writing proceed in another way after Act 5? Like, this partner was just a “mischievous friend”. I was so lost in that, I'm not sure if they backed with the concept in act 5, or I was too sleepy and misunderstood them... I don't know. But I was fascinated with his backstory.

I mean, I have the impression that the Storyteller’s story is like History books talking about gays: “They were very good friends, and lived together all their life, but no homo, uh”.

Jubilost Cameo! Nothing more than that. Lol. I loved Jubilost, I always regret he was not romanceable. The only char I wanted to romance in Pathfinder, but I also knew it was going to be impossible with the bugs.
