Old gas fireplace leaking cold air?

Our house has an old gas fireplace that doesn't work anymore in the living room. It's an insert, and the gas is off, we haven't used it in years. It never really worked.

It's now winter, and it's -22° outside. We've noticed that cold air is coming into the house through the fireplace.

The previous owner of the house thought of himself as a handyman, and did a lot of stuff in the house very poorly. Very poorly.

How could I go about preventing cold air from coming into the house through the fireplace? We are totally fine with making the fireplace not useable again, if using caulking or something must be done and it ruins it. We plan on getting an electrical insert for next winter.

There also seems to be cold air coming in through our microwave's oven vent. (Microwave is above oven, it has the vent fan in the bottom of it) The house is freezing.

He barely heard what 'Zero' was saying but he couldn't help but nod along as if he understood but it was nice of him to care enough like that. though he never knew or heard of Zero being to touch friendly.

The touch to his cheek was strange and surprising but not unwelcome, he even leaned into it some as he let himself be guided. Staring at the hazy form before him, slack jawed and a heap from drinks.

"Whazzat?"

“Oh dear,” a voice spoke above the drunken shark-bot, “Got a bit too sloshed, didn’t you?”

Hands curled around Thresh’s torso, carefully lifting him up with one supporting the back of his head as he was adjusted into a seated position against a wall. The owner of the voice stepped back, kneeling before the other with a somewhat amused look on his face.

“You don’t drink too often, do you sweetheart?”

Thresh’s vision may have been blurry and unsteady, but the face before him likely looked familiar…

The weight of the drinks he's had too much for his systems, even as he closed his eyes to stop the room from spinning. Having not bothered to move at all after falling coupled with the fatigue he was feeling, Thresh would have dozed off right there and then but what stopped him was the voice.

Then the movement.

When he felt himself sturdy, supported by a wall, he hazard a peek. His visuals unfocused and hazy, unable to sit still enough to get a clear picture of who was in front of him but he could make out enough detail.

And what a detail he picked up. That bright red armor, even in his drunk haze, is instantly recognizable and if he was in a better state, he would question why it's here.

However...

"Zzero?" the word tumbled out of his mouth, feeling foreign and out of place. He blinked, the movement slow and slightly uneven, at the hunter. Taking a moment too long to processes that he had even spoke, much less take in the question.

"Nao, butIs fun."

"didja wan some?" There's a sloppy gesture to a bottle on the counter, open and about a quarter or so empty.

Strange, he normally doesn't get much of anything these days. He's turned into a bit a hermit he supposes. Still its a lovely message, from a fan no less and it's exactly what he needed as a pick me up! Makes his core feel all warm and fuzzy!
