I’ve been thinking about the movie all morning, and realized that Rocket’s entire backstory is very similar to Stitch’s backstory in Lilo & Stitch:

Both are highly intelligent.

Both have a penchant for danger and adventure.

Both are first introduced as very tough and short-tempered.

Both are escaped experiments.

Both were being pursued by villainous or antagonistic characters that sought to destroy or “fix” them.

Both ended up being befriended by lovable outcasts (Lilo and The Guardians).

Idk, I guess I just really love found family stories that involve highly flawed outcast characters that deeply relate to each other.

I just realized why Rocket gets so pissed at Drax for nearly getting them all killed for revenge in volume 1

He blames himself for not taking Floor and Teefs and just running after Lylla got shot.

"That's no excuse to get everyone else dead along the way" he says, recalling that when he took revenge for one friend it led to two more dying.

This has got to be one of my favorite shots of the whole movie. Because I mean, look at him. Look at this little dummy, this actual baby, witnessing happiness and family for the first time in his life. All he wanted was to belong, and now he does.

Can’t stop thinking about this

Floor and Teefs were begging Rocket to leave. But, he was too distraught and consumed by grief over Lylla to listen. Floor and Teefs died because of that. And that’s something Rocket has blamed himself over for a very long time.

Gamora not ending up with Peter subvert our “soul-mate” expectations. In another life, Peter and Gamora were soulmates. They grew and made each other better and their love was sincere. But that Gamora is gone.

2014!Gamora isn’t Peter’s Gamora. Just because she could find happiness with him doesn’t mean she should. She found love and happiness with other people and we can’t hold it against her.

I'm thinking about the fact that peter calls rocket his best friend multiple times throughout the movie, and with gamora gone, he's definitely the guardian peter is closest to.

rocket is currently the person peter loves most in this world. and it makes his desperation to save him hit so much harder. he just lost the person he loved most in the world, and he can't go through that pain again.

"i'm not letting him go!" he can't let him go. he wouldn't survive going through that again.

So going back and watching all previous Guardians of the Galaxy media, I finally realized why Nebula looked so different in GotGv3 and I can’t believe I didn’t clock it immediately.

The hardware around her eye is gone. When she said Rocket had given her some upgrades she meant more than just her new arm. He gave her the opportunity to be more like her old self before the Thanos modifications. Removing that implant allows her to be more emotive and I think that’s beautiful.

I also noticed that when her limbs all snap back into place she doesn’t seem to experience the level of pain and discomfort she did before. I like to think that’s also thanks to Rocket’s upgrades. I love their relationship so much. 🥹

This hug is such a big deal tho cause it was the first time they could actually touch and hug…they were always separated by bars. All of them.
