I grew up on Seneca Lake. The abandoned salt towers in Himrod on the West side of the lake being in my first back yard, homes in Watkins Glen at the South tip, and Burdett, before my mother bought a vineyard in Hector on the East side of Seneca Lake. Growing up and living around a shared body of water is a unique and connective experience. Seeing that lake every day, knowing it is not mine, but ours, creates a collective phenomenon, a community that has no borders. I have left and returned a few times and have seen and lived many different ways of life. There’s no place I’d rather be than right here next to Seneca Lake. Once upon a time a group of artists thought we’d make a Finger Lakes inspired coloring book. This was my sketch. The book didn’t happen but I print this on Ts and onesies. I call it Peace Grapes.
