Met Gala 2023: My Top 10 Women’s Looks

Here we go, this is my 10 women’s looks from the Met Gala 2023. Just to remind everyone that my opinions are mine alone, so feel free to agree or disagree with me as much as you like. However I will not tolerate any hate personally aimed at me if you disagree with me to the point where you want to start an argument. So let’s keep it respectful, clean (language wise) and more importantly let’s have some fun with this. Like I said, if you’re looking for an argument, then you’re following the wrong fashion blog. 

1. Kim Kardashian wearing Schiaparelli. This was the first look I saw this morning when I switched my phone on and I was blown away by it. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Kim after her look from last year that got a lot of people talking. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her in an original design that shows off her body in all the right places and I love the draped pearls across her breasts (which are actually covered by a nude bra). Overall it was another Met Gala and another show stopping moment from Kim Kardashian.

2. Doja Cat wearing Oscar De La Renta In comparison to Jared Leto, Doja Cat understood the theme and took it to a whole other level that was both unexpected but not at the same time. I loved the use of prosthetics that complimented her simple yet stunning crystallised gown. Plus who doesn’t love a gown with a hood that has cat ears coming out the top that makes you look like a fashionista rather than someone attending a Halloween party?

3. Gigi Hadid wearing Givenchy I’m a sucker for a black gown that comes not just with a corset but a lot of tulle draped perfectly in all the right places as well. Gigi just looked stunning in this and considering a lot of attendee’s were also wearing either black or white, her Givenchy gown stood out when I was scrolling endlessly through all the looks earlier today. Simple, yet perfect sums up her look that I couldn't not add to my top 10 favourites. 4. Cardi B wearing Chenpeng Studio  I just loved the edgy yet alternative bridal look that also incorporated a masculine energy through the shirt and tie design blended with a corset that still made the overall gown look and feel feminine as well as beautiful. I’m not a fan of Cardi B as a rapper but like Kim Kardashian her Met Gala looks have never disappointed and I think this look was one of her best yet. 

5. Devon Aoki wearing Jeremy Scott Even though it’s yet another black & white gown, I just love the cartoon styled wings on the bust line of the corset. To me it made this gown stand out in the sea on monochrome that plagued the Met Gala 2023. Without that unique design, this gown would’ve gone unnoticed and it would’ve easily become another gown that was worn to the wrong event.

6. Florence Pugh in Valentino Florence has been killing it with her red carpet looks in the last 18 months or so, so it was no surprise that she would turn heads at the Met Gala. Whilst I'm not a fan of Valentino since Pierpaolo Piccioli took over as creative designer when Maria Grazi Chiuri left for Dior back in 2016, I can’t help but love this look. A simple white gown paired with a huge feather crown just looked stunning on Florence and it’s another reason why we love seeing show stopping numbers like this one.

7. Glenn Close wearing Erdem Moralıoğlu Similar to Florence Pugh’s look, Glenn Close just looked phenomenal in her Erdem Moralıoğlu design. Once again it was simple yet stunning and I loved the colour on her. It suited her to a tee and what better way to pair a simple gown that with a huge pale blue cape and the sparkliest jewellery of the night. It just goes to show that anyone of any age and can look amazing when dressed perfectly for the Met Gala.

8. Liu Wen wearing Tory Burch I just love how simple the gown is yet at the bottom it’s filled with white flowers that make the Tory Burch gown stand out amongst hundreds of Met Gala looks. The whole look screams red carpet but it’s also the ideal gown for a bride who doesn’t want to wear white to her wedding. Liu Wen just looked stunning in it and it’s why her look has made it into my top 10. 

9. Salma Hayek wearing Gucci I just love that it wasn’t black or white and the sharpness of the red looked phenomenal on Salma both in the PVC corset and the long tiered skirt. Plus the subtle draping of the pearls as straps just topped the look off altogether. Once again I loved everything about it and I can’t fault it at all. It was perfect.  10. Tems wearing Robert Wun This gown was a standout for all the right reasons. Tems looked absolutely gorgeous from head to toe and I love how all the feathers are perfectly placed on both the gown, the gloves and the headpiece from stepping over that line from haute couture into a costume. The shape of the gown also compliments her body to her a tee and I couldn’t think of anything better that Tem’s could’ve worn to the Met Gala.  So this concludes my top 10 looks from the Met Gala 2023. I have to say picking this list was hard because there were so many another amazing designs worn last night, however these 10 stand out to me the most. Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments about which was your standout garment from last night, perhaps it’s on my list and perhaps it’s not.

synopsis; you got a new perfume, and someone seems to be a fan.

warnings; brief mention of sex

Looking curiously through the many isles, beautiful glass ornaments sealed behind the glass, trapped. You had just ran out of your favourite perfume, and decided to switch it up a bit.

The intricate bottles and their luxurious names appealed to you, but still deciding to wander around. You were no expert with perfumes, but like something vanilla-y, warm and alive. Looking around a bit, you make eye contact with a sales assistant who warms up at the sight of you, hurrying over.

"Hiya! Anything I can help you with today?" She spoke softly, crossing her hands over her black uniform.

"Yep! I was looking for a new scent, something electric, vanilla-y." Explaining to the associate, her eyes light up as she mentally finds a perfect perfume for you. "Preferably in a bigger bottle." You added.

When finding a new scent you loved, you made sure to get a big bottle; associating the scent to the time of your life that you wore it in.

"I have here, 'Valentino Born In Roma Donna.' It's got vanilla tones, very seductive and strong but not in an over powering way.” She explains, as you nod your head.

“That’s perfect, thank you for your help.” You smiled, watching her package the bottle into a gift bag with a little bow.

You walk out swinging your multiple shopping bags around, ready to get some lunch with a friend.

After a hearty lunch, you finally made it through the doors of your apartment.

“Charles? You home?” Calling out his name, to hear nothing but a blaring silence.

You shrugged, clanking your keys down onto the counter and placing the bags down.

After having some light dinner, you walk up the wooden stairs to get ready for bed; being met with Charles who was passed out under the thick blankets and duvets.

“Amour?” You whispered, poking him around, watching him fidget.

Rolling your eyes, you started to get ready as you were attending a club appearance with friends. Some light makeup here and there, and a stunning black sparkly dress.

You finished up, satisfied as you smiled in the mirror. With a quick hair toss and a spritz of your new perfume you were ready to head out; with Charles still passed out.

Walking up to him quietly you landed a light kiss on his forehead, accidentally waking him up in the process.

“Bonjo- Cherié you smell amazing..” A half murmured confession escaping his soft lips, eyes peeling open.

“Grazi. I have to go, but please sleep.” You said, about to walk away just before he catches your hand.

“Who cares about some club appearance? Come stay with me and we can have fun alone.” He winks, kissing up your hand.

“No, I have to go!” You laughed, watching his attempts fail miserably.

“God- What is that perfume?” He threw his head back, absorbed in the scent as he started laughing.

The last verse coupled with the visual of the actors hits much harder, IMO. I also like how we already start with Angel's denial that no, really, he loves this life!

Translation:

In English, Angel is just saying that Valentino feeds him poison and he's addicted to it. In Italian, he's outright asking for it. Also, Angel is afraid every night that he might die for the abuse?????

Translation:

It's one thing to get good at lying, and another to do it for a living.

Also I prefer the bridge in this version to the English one. We know he's swallowing poison by this point. It's more poignant to add that he's also swallowing his own pride and dignity.

(related to this, during his breakdown with Husk in the hotel, I adore that they translated "Do you know how much I'm worth?" with "Ma lo sai quanto costo?". To be worth in English could also refer to his general status, but in Italian, it can only be intended as his price as a prostitute. Man.)

Not much to point out about Fai Schifo, Baby, except that Husk says "Baby, I like you this way" and Angel Dust calls him "love" :) a bit more seriously, "fare schifo" sounds much harsher to me than "you suck", which would be the closer translation - it more literally means "to be disgusting". I really hope the Italian fandom is not as discourse-happy as the English one :^)

(also "passivello da bordello" cracks me up just as much as "power bottom at rock bottom" dhsjfhsdk it literally means "a little bottom from a brothel" but it sounds good 😭)

Il Papà Migliore Dell'Inferno (Hell's Greatest Dad)

Lucifer calls Alastor "sguattero" which is a pretty dispregiative word for "busboy" lmao, more like "scullion".

Very interesting that now Alastor's nun cosplay directly refers to his faith in Charlie, and not just his loyalty to the hotel :)

Also nice touch that he once again gives himself credit for the name of the hotel lol, he really hated that Lucifer didn't like it

And personally I love the effect of his voice - it's different from the og dub, and it reminds me of the earliest Disney movies Italian dubs, it's nostalgic <3

Quindi Non Sai (You Didn't Know)

I just like a lot more how this comes across :) it's more accusatory and also it straight up says that a demon can not only improve, but love.

Another miscellaneous lines that I prefer are "Ora la bimba lo sa!" ("Now the girlie knows!") over "Now the cat's out of the bag", because Lute is an asshole; "È questo quello che mi disgusta!" ("This is what disgusts me!") over "That's what the fuck I've been saying!" because it's a more elegant emphasis; and "Come mai nascondi che tu hai le ali come noi?" ("Why do you hide that you have wings just like us?") because it's more evocative and even more cruel since Vaggie actually got her wings ripped out.

Finale

First of all, Nanni Baldini is slaying just as much as Riccardo Suez in the emotional department bro what is that voice. But most importantly, "From the contract that distorts my will". This is much more poignant than the English version, and it paints Alastor as not only a puppet, but really as if part of him is acting against his own will. man.

Louis Vuitton, PRADA, YSL, and Valentino, were just a few of the stores that Alessandro had dragged her into.

“I am exhausted” She yawned as she settled on a futon within Chanel. The rest of the boys had stayed over to work out and answer some emails from work. She was a bit nervous. Sure, she enjoyed shopping and wearing new clothes, but Alessandro’s perseverance was too much.  “I think we got enough” she gestured to the forty-something bags that they had acquired.

“There is no such thing as enough clothes” Alessandro answered as he looked through a rack of clothes. He picked out what he liked the most, and then he would sort out the best pieces from that pile. “Plus, I’ve saved the best for last!”

“Shut up! We are going to your store?!” She suddenly felt like she had enough energy to keep shopping. Y/N was excited to see Alessandro’s work after so much speculation from everyone. “Can we go already?”.

“But don’t you like this?” He asked showing her a very elegant two-piece skirt suit.

“I love it. It’s gorgeous, but I think we have enough!” Alessandro frowned as put it back on the rack. He wasn’t used to being said no. He usually got away with lots of things. “Grazie” he said as he picked up the shopping bags and guided her out. “I think I have the perfect dress for you tonight”.

“I can’t wait!”

It was three in the afternoon when they returned to the apartment. Y/N was starving and was in serious need of some love and cuddles from her boyfriend.

“I’ll order some pizza!” Alessandro yelled at her as she walked past him towards the bedroom she shared with Harry. “I’ll let you know when it gets here!”

“Alright!” She yelled back just as she opened the door.

He sat on a small desk that had been set up in the room for him to get some work done. Although he wasn’t working, he was holding a book. A book that looked thick enough to kill someone with it. He never failed to amaze her.

“Hey pup” Harry looked up from his book and smiled at the woman that made him doubt everything. “How was shopping?” He asked as she placed some bags beside the door. “You look tired” he pointed knowing well enough how intense Alessandro’s shopping trips were.

She slipped off her short heels and took off her blazer and threw them on the bed. Y/N had wanted to look presentable and feel good about herself. Therefore, she had worn a silk, black dress with a slit in the front, paired with heels and a black blazer for warmth. She looked stunning.

She walked up to Harry and took his book off his hands, placing it on the desk. Then she rose her dress a bit before straddling Harry on his chair. Harry laughed and placed his hands on her hips.

“I don’t think this chair is strong enough to hold us both” He pushed her hair off her shoulder and pulled her closer to him. “It’s old enough to be the chair of Julius Cesar” he joked.

“Well, it would be the first time we break a piece of furniture” She wrapped her arms around his neck for leverage. She hid her face in the crook of his neck, getting a whiff of his cologne mixed with his scent. “What are you reading?” Y/N asked feeling his hands caressing her back.

“It’s called Sapiens a brief history of humankind” Y/N wasn’t surprised by the title. It sounded history inclined, and she knew that Harry quite liked to soak his knowledge with a bit of history and art. Something that she felt she lacked in knowledge. Hence, why she liked hearing him speak about it. “Did you get an outfit for tonight?”.

“Did I get an outfit? I got clothes to last me a lifetime” She giggled as she cuddled closer to him and kissed his jaw. Harry chuckled, remembering the conversation they had before she left the apartment. Harry had given her a copy of his credit card, and she had profusely declined. He had tried to convince her for an hour. Harry wanted to spoil her. He wanted her to have the world.

“I can’t wait to see” He added after laughing. Harry knew she wasn’t accustomed to being spoiled, but she would have to. She had no idea what was coming. Harry was going to spoil her rotten.

The pizza arrived half an hour later. Alessandro had set up two spots for them outside. The sun was starting to hide on the horizon, and it seemed like the perfect setting for Y/N to have her first authentic Italian pizza.

“Could you please make me some coffee, Francesca?” Michael asked her as he walked through the kitchen to the terrace.

“It smells so good” Y/N exclaimed as Alessandro tried to open the box. He had also ordered some Caprese salad.

“Right? It’s been so long since I’ve had real pizza” His mouth watered just thinking about it. “White or red?”

“Red” He nodded and ran back into the house.

“Ready for tonight?” Michael asked as he showed up with his coffee and settled on one of the seats. “Harry is overly excited to take you. It’s very weird to see him so fascinated with someone” He shared.

“I can’t wait” she blushed at his comment about Harry. “Honestly, it’s such a dream to be here”.

“I'm sure it’s even more perfect to be here with a couple.”

“Who is she?? Spill” Y/N said, just as Alessandro showed up with two cups and a bottle.

“Her name was Violet” Michael started sharing, “I met her during a dinner party. She is the daughter of one of my business partners. She isn’t like the others”.

“So, what happened?”

“Here Darlin” Alessandro handed her a plate, served her some salad, and tore her a slice of pizza. “Let’s try not to stuff our faces since we are having dinner in like three hours and Harry would kill me if I spoiled your appetite.”

“It’s just complicated” Michael had never told anyone. He was scared. He didn’t want anyone to judge.

“Just tell us. It’s obviously affected you” She bit the pizza and moaned. The explosion of flavors was a combination that she had never tasted. It was just cheese and tomatoes on some dough, but it was quite delicious.

“I know” Alessandro interrupted before she could say anything.

“It’s too complicated. I just don’t want to be judged” Alessandro chuckled, shaking his head at his best friend.

“Don’t be a fucking idiot. We are your friends. We might tease you but never judge you. We’ve all been through shitty situations” The three of them always teased each other and roasted one another, but they never judged.

“She is engaged to some other guy.”

“Violet?” Y/N asked again as she tried not to choke on her pizza slice.

“She said she would leave him, but I needed to commit. The thing is that I am trying to close a deal with the guy. He is funding 80% of the next project." 

“Oh shit! We might just need more wine and less coffee” Alessandro couldn’t believe his words. Michael was always the funny kid in the group. Therefore, this was news to him. He never expected him to do something like this. Not because it was wrong, but because Michael was always trying to do the right thing. He was too morally correct. Meanwhile, Alessandro was completely the opposite. He had dated married women, engaged women, and even girlfriends of his friends. “Should we call Harry and William?”.

“No. Please. I require more time” William and Harry were the fathers of the group and Y/N couldn’t judge him. She would too be scared to tell them both.

“Alright. Your secret is safe with us, but you must tell them” Alessandro insisted as he reached out for his third slice.

“But that means she still has feelings for you” Y/N pointed out, “Why are you so scared of commitment? Nothing is going to happen if you settle down, and I don’t mean you should marry the girl, but if you really like her then you must pursue her”

“I agree”

“I don’t know’ Michael breathed, “I should start getting ready. Thank you for listening to me” Michael frowned and walked back to his bedroom. Alessandro and Y/N felt shitty. They wanted to fix everything for him because Michael deserved to be loved like no one else.

“How was the pizza?” Harry asked as Y/N walked into the bathroom and found him with a towel wrapped around his torso as he shaved.

“Delicious” She started taking her clothes off, so she could take a shower. It had been a long day and the evening was just started.

“Are you alright?” He asked and turned to look at her.

“I am fine” Her head was still going in circles with Michael’s situation. She just wanted to help him. She wanted to tell Harry because he was smart. He could think of a way to help Michael and reconnect with Violet. “What are you wearing tonight?” She asked as she got into the shower and stood under the water.

“A suit” he smiled as he ogled at her naked body. She could see him watching her, but she wasn’t going to say something. Although, his gaze made her extremely nervous. Sufficiently nervous that she dropped the container of exfoliator on the floor. Harry raised his eyebrows as a cheeky smile appeared.

“Stop it!” She giggled, turning her back towards the wall, so he couldn’t see her backside while she bent down.

“Keep hiding from me” He laughed, “A front view is always nice” he winked.

“Harry Edward Styles! Get dressed!” She yelled at him and then listen to his soft laugh vanish into the closet.

If you had told me a year ago today that I would be holding the love of my life in my arms, I would have laughed and dismissed it. But that evening when you stood in front of my apartment with a pizza box and wine, everything changed dramatically. Maybe I was destined to meet you from the beginning and maybe it was these moments with you that turned everything in my life completely upside down.

You make me laugh, you look after me, you are there when I need someone, whether it is just to listen or you support me through the bad and good things in my life. I don't know what I did to deserve you, how I deserve the love you give me every day. But I know that I never want to let you go again because you bring out so many sides of me that I thought I had lost.
