I feel it would be really calming for a child who has experienced tragedy to have this general who thinks everything is funny, it would ease their worries. After experiencing traumatic events having this dude who shows no worry, no anger just a calm even intrigued demeaned might be able to ground them.

He would be the most gentle dad to their child, always being considerate of their past and how certain things might trigger them. So I feel as though encountering an abandoned/survivor child might just be what he needs to back to his gentle and caring origins, the child might be able to fill that hole left in him by his loss and give him a new reason to keep going and reignite his views on justic
