It's still Wednesday somewhere.

This is a snippet of the fic I was talking about in the comments of your regressor Nick fic. I've been shaping it up recently, but I've still got a ways to go on it before it's finished. Anyways, here's the hurt part of the hurt/comfort!

Nick woke with a start. He was drenched in sweat, and he was beginning to think he’d screamed himself awake again, if Monroe’s expression was anything to go by. God, even at his most exhausted, he couldn’t have one fucking night of sleep. The dream came flooding back to him all at once. He could kind of hear Monroe asking if he was okay, but it was so distant. He heard the crunch of glass and metal, and saw the shards exploding from the car. He saw his mother and father’s last breaths, ragged and desperate. He wasn’t there, he couldn’t stop it, and they were gone and it was all his fault. He hugged his knees to his chest, and suddenly there was a hand on his shoulder. He jerked away from the touch, instinctively, and looked over to his right. Monroe was here. 

“Hey, hey, listen to me. I’m right here. You’re safe. It’s okay. Everything is okay,” he said. Everything was not okay. Nick broke down into heavy sobs. Distantly, he realized something was wrong, different, but he couldn’t put together what it was.

“I– I want. My mom,” Nick choked out, between sobs. Monroe’s heart ached, but he felt a little out of his depth. He’d seen Nick get caught up in his head after a nightmare, but he’s never cried, much less full-body sobbed. Asking for his mom, too—that was off. He knew Kelly was off gallivanting in Europe or whatever it is that Grimms do. 

Monroe sighed. “Your mom’s not here right now, Nick.” He lifted his hand, brushing a stray hair out of Nick’s face. 

“I KNOW!” Nick screamed, putting his head between his knees and rocking back and forth. “She’s dead and she’s never coming back! Everyone keeps telling me. I know, already!”

Oh, fuck, Monroe thought. This was definitely not in the standard realm of Nick breakdowns. He had no idea what to say, so he settled on the truth, and hoped for the best. “Hey, I might have some kinda good news,” Monroe said, trying to sound upbeat.

Nick stilled, raising his head up a little. “What?” he hiccuped.

“Well, um, what if I told you that your mom’s not dead?” Nick’s head reared back in disgust. “You’re lying. Don’t lie. My mom is dead and so is my dad and they’re never, ever coming back.”

Literally the day after complaining that there aren't gay people in my uni i meet someone gay. They saw my flowery shirt and spoke to me. They asked me for my pronouns. We have the same name and deadname. They watched toh. I didn't have social anxiety with them. It was immediate gay-to-gay connection. This couldn't go better this is beyond my expectations, i have someone to talk to on the SECOND day of classes? This is not me what is happening, also i VIBE with them? Am i dreaming. Don't actually answer that.

for all of its occasional childishness, and i'd in fact think the frequency of happenings is related to this, the cyberpunk fandom is one of the most engaged ones i've seen for newcomers.

Honestly why I kept doing anything in the game for the longest time, cause it sure wasn't enjoyment for the game itself.

But I've had and posted and tried to find pockets and community in a ton of properties. I've had sideblogs dedicated to those things where I've engaged with others and talked and posted and tagged stuff and reblogged other low to no note fandom content specifically because it seemed like the way to find folks.

Cyberpunk folks are literally the only ones who've ever responded.
