cunning single lady. once upon a time, hitsugaya toushirou and karin were the happiest and most in love couple ever. then toushirou quit his job, and continuously failed to find investors. eventually, karin just can’t handle overworking herself, and decides to get a divorce. years later, hitsugaya toushirou is now a successful businessman, and kurosaki karin... is not. it would be fine, except karin finds out that it was her idea that made him successful, and she wants compensation, dammit! deciding to join his company as in intern, thus begins the cat-and-dog quarrel between divorcees, who hurt each other terribly, but also, cannot get over each other either as easily as they’d like.

because this is my first life. hitsugaya toushirou has a great apartment, but owes a lot on his mortgage. enter kurosaki karin, who has focused on her writing career and never dated, and is in need of an apartment. because it’s not acceptable for a single man, and a single woman, in reality, a landlord and his tenant, to share the apartment, they decide to get married to prevent suspicion! everything will be fine! they’re not going to fall in love! they make a contract outlining how their marriage of convenience will make everything simple and beneficial to them both. they can communicate easily, because they don’t have feelings for each other. but that soon changes, and love, unfortunately, has a way of making even what was the most simple of things the most complicated...

touch your heart. kurosaki karin a popular actress because she’s pretty but bad at acting, and unfortunately, gets involved in a drug scandal, so her career is essentially over. however! she is offered a second chance: if she gets work experience as a secretary for a lawyer for a couple of months, which is the role for the exciting drama she wants to star in, there’s a high possibility for a comeback! meanwhile, hitsugaya toushioru, attorney at a law firm, cold-hearted and arrogant, is told by his boss that he needs a secretary, and who better than the goddess kurosaki karin herself (whom hitusgaya toushirou has never heard about because he’s uninterested in the acting world)! unhappy about it, but begrudgingly accepting, it’s only three months, he tells himself, with gritted teeth, it will pass, will sparks fly as these two meet and dislike each other from the get go...?

This is the most common one. Y'all don't spend a lot of time talking but it's meaningful to him. He spends a lot of time getting into fights but with you he can relax. Besides, he wouldn't spend time with you if he didn't like you so much. He's happy to be around you, whether it's watching movies, sparring, or you're cheering him on while he fights. He'll do things with you that he doesn't care for because it means being with you and making you happy, even if he grumbles about it.

alright, so flower of evil hitsukarin au:

kurosaki karin and yukio hans voralberna are the happiest couple in the world.

they have a super adorable child, who adores their father so much, and yukio dotes on them endlessly

karin is a homicide detective, living her best life, and thinks that’s the only one real issue in her life is: she doesn’t understand why her mother in law hates her so much.

yukio wishes he could tell her.

yukio wishes that he could tell her a lot of things. but the thing is, he has a really big secret, that he’s kept hidden for years, and he’s been pretty good at not telling anyone about it -- uprooted his life, lost contact with his sister, his identity --

like, for instance, his actual name is hitsugaya toushirou.

and things have been good for them, you know. all things considered, they have a pretty good life together. not getting along with his mother in law is a small issue, really.

(not telling her the truth about his past isn’t an issue at all, because ignorance is bliss)

except one day, karin starts investigating a case.

a string of serial murders that started from 15 years ago

and the deeper she digs, the more she starts to notice, that her husband, yukio hans voralberna, is starting to act a little strange

bit by bit, his perfect facade is crumbling

and karin begins to wonder, what could he possibly be hiding from her

wait, are people who start listening to dndads post episode 64, going to even realize that anthony did not agree to that retcon in episode 2, freddie intentionally shittily pieced those two lines of anthony’s together, timetravelled darryl, inserted new dialogue to an old episode

and so, new listeners, for 62 episodes, are not even going to realize the truly fantastic joke of the players retconning history in a way that anthony could never have suspected

what must it be like. to be a new listener of dndads. and not realize what happened was the power move of a century. and just. breeze past it. think it odd, maybe, but it’s fine. until hours and hours later, when it clicks

how is it that gankutsuou is so homophobic when the count of monte cristo is like: let’s go lesbians! we got a happy ending!

whereas gankutsuou is like:

- we’ll make the count prey on albert, basically make albert the love interest in place of mercedes, even though mercedes is the original love interest and albert’s mother, alternatively, replaces haydee, the second love interest with albert, and then die

- we will kill of franz, heavily implied to be in love with albert

- we’ll make eugenie, heavily implied lesbian, straight

- i don’t think louise appears in the anime? she might, but, if so, she’s even more invisible than she is in the book

like i know i love the narrative arrangement of gankutsuou a lot, and a lot about gankutsuou’s decisions but like... these are Choices that i do not like. and for the count of monte cristo, a novel written in 1844 to be lgbt+ positive, it’s a real shame

(yes, the count preys on albert in the book, sees him to use and take advantage of to further his revenge and invade the correct social circles, but. it’s not really portrayed as a seduction like it is in the anime.)

(also, i really hate edmond/haydee, and think keeping them platonic was actually a choice for the better, but i’m. not sure how well i like the ending of gankutsuou anyway.)
