there was a stench to the basement, hanging over it like a dank cloud. sweat, weed, c*m — a scent all of spit's own making, thanks to the sedentary lifestyle he'd adopted since returning home two weeks ago. the subreddits that he browsed obsessively suggested that he was depressed, advising that he ' get out more ' or pick up a new hobby or beat the shit out of a stranger. he liked how that last one sounded, but he wasn't feeling particularly inspired, especially not while his sister's bubbly friends filled & infested the house above his head. shitty top 50 tunes buzzed through the floorboards, laughter distant but not unheard, even as he raised the volume on the television. he could only imagine what she was telling everyone about him being home . . . spit had just finished packing a bowl when he heard the basement door swing open, the noise of someone trampling down the stairs quickly following. "party's upstairs only, pal," he called, intense gaze not straying from the television, "fuck off and quick."
