Oh boy fanfic tropes uhhh okay okay I will do my best! I’m not super well versed in fic and tropes so bear w/ me here lol

Rus (undertale) - devoted knight. Not to one person, rather a cause. His friends and loved ones, protecting them, taking care of them, by whatever means he has.

Edge (underfell) - collapse. He works himself so hard, it was bound to happen eventually. He’s not going to learn his lesson.

Stretch (underswap) - overheard at the worst possible time. Whether it was his secret spilled or he found something out he wasn’t meant to, I feel like Stretch is very good at finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time without fail.

Copper (swapfell metal) - (platonic) slow burn. He’s a stubborn asshole but with enough goofing off and late night talks, he might open up a little, and be better off for it.

Ghost (fellswap glass) - framed. Uh oh! Looks like you’ve been framed for a crime you didn’t commit, and now it’s up to you and you alone to find a way out of this. Good luck!

Uno (glitchedswap) - disappearance. It’s been many years since the sudden unexpected disappearance of Papyrus Gaster, but the hole his absence left still seems to be growing.

Heartfell Papyrus - soulmate birthmarks with a twist. That twist being that…he doesn’t seem to have a mark. Oh dear.

Lace (lovefell) - heartbreak in the rain. Self explanatory.

Rosewood (mafialovefell) - curse. He’s had a curse put on him, and only true loves kiss can break it...

Boss (mafiafell) - isekai. I would love to put his ass in a situation. /j but seriously. “Medical malpractice”. He is subject to experiments beyond his control. It does not end well.

Luck (mafiaswap) - lost the bet. Like rags to riches but in reverse. Will he be able to climb back to the position he once had?

Hawk (mafiatale) - poison. Uh oh! You’ve been poisoned. Is this gunna end at the hospital or the morgue?

Dove (horrortale) - second chances. He deserves a new lease on life, after everything…right?

Rust (horrorswap) - memory loss. He loses his memory in a terrible accident…but maybe that’s for the best.

Dusk (horrorfell) - life candles. And his has almost run out…

Ice (invertedfell) - (platonic) forced confessions. Trapped with a friend in dire circumstances and after a point, all they have left to pass the time is talking.

Clover (sweetswap) - flower shop. He’s always loved how colorful flowers are, even if he’s been partially colorblind since his accident.

Pictoris (outertale) - arranged marriage. But maybe it won’t be so bad after all..?

Aurigae - (platonic) slow dance. He gets pulled into dancing by a friend. He was having a terrible day, but…that helped. Maybe more than he’s even willing to admit.

Antares (outerfell) - space pirate. Is this a trope? I honestly don’t know but I love the concept and am standing by this.

Elester (demonfell) - absurd meet cute. He’s a demon, he needs to be placed in the story by extreme means, right?

Dos (glitchfell) - ghosts of the past. Something from his past is haunting him, and he can’t outrun it forever.

Void (vesselfell) - [redacted] coffee shop. He likes coffee :*)

Do any of the brothers play video games? If they do whats their favorite genres?

What are their opinions on humans in general? Hate? Afraid?

What would be Donnies pride and joy in terms of inventions? Does he have a favorite? And does he have a particular field he likes studying the most (biology, engineering, chemistry, etc)?

What would be the pet peeves for the turtles?

- They don't have access to video games, so cards and board games are what they dabble in. Leo loves Uno and Solitare. Donnie enjoys things like Mancala and Jenga. Operation would probably be another one he's obsessed with. Mikey likes Life! Raph's fave is a toss up. I think they probably had a heated game of Hedbanz one night. 

- It's a bit mixed! Their perceptions of humans are very black and white. White coats and Foot soldiers ✅️ Anybody else really ❌️ They're unaware of how complex really people are. 

- Donnie is a jack of all trades kinda guy! He does a little more than just machines. (Doesn't mean he’s any good though. Dude just likes to learn.) He's got an approximate knowledge of many things. Don does take a bigger interest in biology when Stockman begins to seek his input on projects.

Connecting a Modern MIDI Keyboard to an Apple IIGS

I love connecting MIDI keyboards to old computers. This is pretty straightforward for the Apple IIGS. GS/OS System 6.0.4 comes with synthLAB, a MIDI sequencer and synthesizer. After some trial and error attempts at diy-ing a serial based midi connection, I quickly came to the realization that the Apple MIDI driver works over the RS-422 connection. This schematic shows a basic MIDI to RS-422 setup, which could be a totally valid approach to solving this. We could also take the approach of looking for time-period-accurate MIDI interfaces. I found an article from 1997 that identifies some possibly compatible MIDI interfaces. This worked as a great starting point. Most of these interfaces are listed for absurd prices on eBay, but I did manage to get a Midiman Macman for ~$20. You can connect it to your printer port or your modem port, but the default in System 6.0.4 is printer - best not to have to fiddle with configuration menus.

Cool, we've taken care of the Apple IIGS side of things. But I don't own a synth keyboard with actual midi ports - everything's USB these days. For that, I dug out something I knew my parents had given to me over a decade ago, an M-Audio Midisport 1x1; A cheap USB to MIDI adapter. It looks like it's no longer for sale, but the M-Audio Midisport Uno looks comparable, listed at ~$30 on Amazon. Two regular midi cables later, and we have the MIDI-Out on the Minimac connected to the MIDI-In on the Midisport, and the MIDI-In on the Minimac to the MIDI-Out on the Midisport. We have all the hardware we need now!

Fantastic, but how do we actually send the midi keyboard's stuff to the Midisport? For that we'll be using the wonderful and fantastic MIDI-OX. Open up the MIDI Devices window by clicking on the icon that looks like a MIDI port; select your MIDI keyboard in the MIDI-IN pane, then select the Midisport in the MIDI-OUT pane (listed as MS1x1 for me). Click on Okay and you're done!

Neat, but how do I get my IIGS to receive the MIDI? After you've opened synthLAB, go up to the "Setup" menu at the top and select "MIDI…". Then click on the button that shows an arrow pointing to the IIGS. The default instrument is a drumkit, so maybe also go over the the "Instrument" menu and pick a different instrument. That should be it! Enjoy using your modern MIDI keyboard with a ~35 year old computer!

You know, I don’t know if I’ve ever…actually properly talked about GS before! In the VF note I’d mentioned GS originating from an idea with Void so I suppose I’ll start there.

I often get lots of imagery involving Void and many others whenever listening to music, all varying a lot in tone and intensity. In one idea, he’d needed to take refuge in a safe verse he was familiar with, where he heads to the house in Snowdin and the door in answered by a young Chara who’s very happy to see him again. Then he’s fondly greeted by brothers Sky and Uno (Sans and Papyrus respectively). I’d seen them all so clearly and was surprised by there sudden existence, especially considering they even came with the nicknames which is unusual for me, as I tend to struggle with those haha

But I quickly became attached to them and started piecing together more of their world. This resulted in a Swap AU that had experienced a massive coding issue, preventing Chara from being able to complete their run or reset. Or rather, it’s too dangerous to reset, as it started affecting the monsters negatively whenever they did, worsening the glitches caused by the initial malfunction.

While most monsters still don’t remember the resets, they’ve all started to develop a sense of deja vu, or feeling like some big change is coming soon, and things will change for the better. They don’t, not really, and the brothers as well as Toriel and Asgore have a better awareness of this, Alphys and Undyne, too, to a lesser degree.

That was how they’d met Void. One of the many facets of his job entails fixing coding issues, but one so large scale is tricky. If you do things in the wrong order or don’t finish something completely before moving on to the next, it can have grave consequences. So it’s a very slow going process of working away at it over a period of time, with rest periods in between so as not to destabilize the AU either, but even with all that, there’s no guarantee he and his allies won’t eventually hit a dead end. There’s no guarantee they’ll ever be able to free the monsters of that underground. And without resets, and time flowing normally, the monsters are still aging, still losing hope.

As a stand alone AU without MV interference, I haven’t honestly decided if I’ve wanted to give them a happy or tragic ending, and having mostly just thought a lot about the monsters’ glitches and what their underground is like (still relatively normal seeming, aside from a few things that make it stick out as a little broken).

But yeah! That’s GS! Chara is very close with the brothers but primarily lives in the Ruins with Asgore, and everyone else…just goes about life as normal, for the most part! It’s a bit slice of life-y, with a touch of existential horror I suppose agdhhsjs

i dont think Ive seen this mentioned anywhere but is there going to be a Casey Jones? And if so, how will the turtles have met him?

Are the Kraang going to be a big enemy in the series? Is Leatherhead going to exist?

Despite how serious Leo is, does he end up developing any hobbies that dont include training?

As of right now, Casey isn't present. I think he'll definitely have a place after I get through this first big phase of the story I have planned. Irma is currently the only other major human ally.

The Kraang are also something for the future. I have a big focus on Stockman right now. Shredder is also a huge threat, of course, but I've got a lot planned with Stockman. Other than IDW, I feel like they don't really let his character shine. I hope you guys will enjoy GS!Stockman as much as I do! Bro needs serious therapy.

A version of Leatherhead will exist.

Leo gets really into puzzles and card games. Please play UNO with him. It's his favorite.

Gladion, The secret Traveling Secret Agent

While Lillie and Hau were having these soul-searching adventures, Gladion just wanted a moment to take a breather, he admits that he was being reckless when he decided to take over the Aether foundation, but what surprised him was that no one stopped him, a 15-year-old, from taking over a multimillionaire corporation with its name now stuck in the mud.

The stress was too much, even more so when he would always get bombarded with meetings and calls from the press, wanting to know what he'd be doing as the new president of the place, but he wanted out, immediately, but he couldn't just leave everything to poor Wicke, that woman was also very tired, maybe more than him, even if what the foundation did was unforgivable, some workers still berated her for choosing to side with the ex-champion and Hala's grandson in defeating their fellow workers and getting them sent to jail.

One night he couldn't just take it anymore, so he ran away into the pouring rain, not daring to look back but also not paying attention to where he was going, crashing against something hard enough to knock him out.

When he woke up, he was in a hospital gown and in a room that was within the Pokemon center, it took him a while to turn his head and see he wasn't alone, as Guzma himself was sitting in the chair, sleeping, he tried to not make noise but his surprised gasp was apparently enough to wake him up.

"huh? Oh, you're finally awake, you got us all worried, punk"

"What in world is going on, and more importantly, why are you here?!"

"Well, I was the one that found you in the rain with Gkins, so we sort of told the nurses we were family so I could keep an eye on ya while Gales deals with the nurses"

"So you two lied?"

"Would you rather be alone in a hospital room with no idea of how you get here, and to top it off, with the press outside"

"THEY'RE OUTSIDE?!"

"Yes and...no, they are outside, but not in front of the Pokemon center if you wanted to know-" Gladion smacks him with his pillow, "WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!"

"You are not being helpful, I would rather have Gael here than you...You don't even care about me! Bet he made you stay here"

".....Yeah, something along those lines...you feeling okay?"

"well, if a broken leg means healthy then yes...How did this even happen?"

"A tauros ran you over, the doctors think you might have gotten hurt by hitting something or getting hit by the pokemon"

Gladion was forced to stay with Gabi and Guzma while he recovered, he expected him to not like his presence there but turns out the Bug-type trainer was pretty much used to him, he even got visits from some team Skull grunts with gifts and treats, sometimes they would stay while both Gs were out in Alola so Gladion wouldn't be alone, in his mind, he was being spoiled, but what bugged him the most is how Guzma had changed so drastically, he thought that maybe the fact he was now in a relationship made him soft but there was more to it, but now wasn't the time for speculations.

When Gladion was given a pair of crutches, walking around the house was a complete chore, Golisopod, however, was a great guide on how to help him walk around with those, almost as if it had done it before. The giant bug was very gentle too, sitting him on the sofa so he was comfortable, and getting him snacks, Gladion felt like he was on the lap of luxury, but despite all of this, he knew that as soon as he recovered, all this attention would cease to exist, they would go back to their lives and not speak to one another ever again, he guessed Guzma noticed that and so one night he brought the young boy to his house's porch and sat there with him.

"You scared or something?"

"What? No! You know me, I was in the most brutal missions in the team back in the day, I'm not scared"

"Well, i don't actually know you but i know a scared kid when i see one"

"Of course, you used to scare everyone with your gang"

"Actually...Not many people were scared of me, what I meant is that I was once a scared kid"

"....Okay, who are you and what did you do to Guzma?"

"Glads, I'm serious"

"I know!....I just..."

"It's fine, not many people expected me to grow up either, not even my family"

"Kid, you know why i chose you to stay in my team?"

"I'm just pointing out what is happening, think about this, when you get back there, you should be in bed, you might be an adult but has your brain really aged that much?"

Gladion let out a sigh, and with Golisopod's help, he went to the bedroom he was staying in, but he only went to bed after a long phone call with Wicke.

Gladion managed to bring some of his stuff from the office to Gael and Guzma's place, so he could talk to Lillie about her journey while being in a better environment, still managing to pull some strings until she got back from her journey.

Once Lillie took over and Gladion managed to leave, he dedicated the rest of the year to exploring Alola, but to also become stronger, as he was going to join the new corporation of ex interpol agents to maybe harvest all of the potential Silvally had to offer to the world, he was already amazing during the exam, especially after some heavy training with the soon to be Kahuna Guzma, maybe he could also answer a question of his own regarding his biological family, but that could wait, for he had now a better home.

i’ve been Remembering things, as time goes on

most recently, i remember sitting at the base of my bedroom door holding it closed because somebody(?) is so upset that they’re using all their strength to try and open the door (x multiple times)

((did i do it for attention? i think i remember being scared, and i think i remember it being my mom once, when i was sitting at the door hiding in her room

someone was always yelling at me, i was always annoying, i was always in the way and sent away

remembering the hole in the wall of our childhood room, coincidently right behind the door i would try to hold shut — somehow convincing myself now that it was oddly person-shaped

remembering my dad slamming the d*gs head through the wall (from the hallway across the bathroom below the light switches, through to the living room side) for apparently attacking/scaring (me?)

my mom apologizing for kicking my head while i was asleep because she was mad for some blurry reason

the house was always SO LOUD. i keep remembering how “normal” it was to have birds constantly screaming, overstimulating everyone in the house and making everybody mean

the birds screaming at sunset, the golden hour when dad would come home from work pissed

screaming in my room, in time out, wanting to leave my room and being so upset that i had to be alone

always wanting someone to play with, to talk to, something to do, share, with anyone

my dad, angry, always either watching tv or at work

hiding from the in-home therapist under kaitlyn’s covers, my mom coming in, not finding me (on the top bunk hidden in kaitlyn’s heap) and not seeming too worried, maybe implying sending the therapist home

was probably a ploy to get me to come out, but it just fed the monster in my head saying that my mom didn’t love me

the therapist didn’t work out — because my mom would be there, and she was the problem my little developing brain couldn’t figure out

at least she played uno with me
