Gotta share more of this dog honestly - look at him, he’s just so handsome. Absolutely love his pointing style - hope we get out in the field one day.

Y’all I know Brittanys were barely being titled in stuff but I just found out I can actually see the official stats from the AKC on this sort of thing and 2022, anything that wasn’t field or hunting was absolutely abysmal. I am crying why are we LIKE THIS? We are so full of potential and versatile 😭 Why are we being beaten out by dogs like GSPs and stuff when we should be at the very least on PAR with them. I am so mad right now I’m actually frothing
I’m stuck at work as a ball of upset energy and can’t do anything constructive right now but mark my words I will be putting so many stupid basic titles on my dogs now because apparently I’m the only one that’s going to fucking do it

sending you a brittany 🥳
I'd get a red and white bitch and name her Skua. My falconry friends would be delighted that I joined the gundog crew, and I'd have to make a point to go out with them and their birds and GSPs. Fun!
I'd put her on critters of course-- mostly rabbits, possibly other fur. Also nosework of course. If she enjoyed chasing plastic bags we'd give racing a shot. My roommate has expressed an interest in getting into hunting birds, so I'd lend Skua to her for that purpose. Maybe they'd go to some gundog field trials together.
We'd also do some bikejoring and hiking. Basically a nice fun all-rounder dog, my favorite type.
Thank you for asking!

I have no clue why people are coming at you over your post. It’s obvious they haven’t spent any time around properly cared for working dogs. I worked in small, outdoor specialty dog boarding kennels for 5 years where only the kennels were inside and we got a lot of hunting dogs (WH griffons, GSPs, hunting labs, etc) and they are just on a different level. These dogs would go insane if they were kept indoors with only 1 walk a day or just tennis ball throwing in a field. I’m just mad for you. Huge chance that some of the people who can’t comprehend a happy and healthy outdoor working dog also unknowingly deprive their dogs of basic stimulation and exercise and basic care (nails, grooming, socialization) that their dogs require to have a fulfilling life. Most outdoor well cared for working dog breeds will be WAY happier than an indoor non working g shep or jack russell or god forbid a cattledog or border collie. Sorry you’re being attacked like this. You’re fighting the good fight.
the answer is really REALLY simple. People on this website have really disturbing parasocial relationships with some of the blogs on this website and take every perceived slight (no matter how incorrect they may be about it being a 'slight' or 'drama' or 'vagueblogging' or whatever) to the point i've even blocked unproblematic blogs just bc i don't need their followers getting into my notes.
People be absolutely feral (negative) on this site and i want all my followers to know right now that you better never behave that way lmao).

GSP!!!!
this one I plan extensively for. I do so much research on different lines. this is gonna be my hawking dog. I end up driving six hours to get a puppy from combination show and hunting lines. she's a cute little bundle of liver spots. I name her Brynn. I find out bird dogs are weird. I'm very used to hounds and this is out of my wheelhouse. I end up taking her to a trainer and we work it out. it takes a while, but she ends up a solid little pointer baby. all her gear is bright pink.

Isn't it like, past midnight for you right now? Go to bed!!!
Anyway, German Shorthaired Pointers are really cool dogs! They're a pointing breed (hence "pointers") so as hunting dogs go they're fairly stable. Their job is to seek out prey (quail mostly) and point it out to the hunter. They do not flush the quail like a Beagle or a Coonhound might flush out a rabbit. They just find and alert the hunter to where the quarry is. Super cool work. Lots of fun to watch.
That being said GSPs are pretty stable for being a hunting breed. They're super energetic, friendly, and just happy dogs. But they're a doing breed. If they don't have something to do they either find something to do (chewing walls, furniture, etc) or they become nervous wrecks. I've never met one that didn't end up being found perched on top of the fridge at some point in their lives.
Not intending to call you out or anything but you remind me of that. You're fun, you have the energy of fifty hamsters (seriously how!? I'm so exhausted all of the time) and you are the picture of happiness and joy in the small things of life. But I see the little moments when you don't have something to focus on and your energy shifts. You get ansty and a little nervy. You need somewhere to put your energy. You need to be doing. That's not a bad thing of course. It's just you. It's a by product of all that boundless energy and joy you have bubbling up in you.
So yeah, you remind me of a GSP. They're my second choice for pointing breed. Super cool dogs. My favorite color are the liver roan.
…it was midnight when I got this ask. And I. Stayed up. Two more hours. Before going to bed *lowers head shamefully*
Dude I love it when you talk about something you’re passionate about oh my goodness-
“I've never met one that didn't end up being found perched on top of the fridge at some point in their lives.” Oh dear XD
Though actually, I quite like sitting up on counters! And I also have a loft bed… hehe
I GOT CHARACTER ANALYZED BY DEATHY HECK YES THIS IS AWESOME!!! Whoa this is so cool to read!! Wow!!!
Awwww, the liver roan is so cute!!

German Shorthaired Pointer
The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a medium to large sized breed of pointing dog developed in the 19th century in Germany for hunting. A versatile hunting breed, being an all-purpose gun dog suitable for both land and water, they are streamlined yet powerful with strong legs. While a hunting breed that retains a strong drive to find and chase game, they are extremely energetic and can excel at a wide variety of dog sports. Their demeanor when well-socialized is friendly toward both people and fellow canines, with some tendency to be "velcro dogs".
