Just got finished reading Gutters and can now say with certainty that if I had read this as teenager it would have emotionally WRECKED me. I mean, it still emotionally wrecked me. But it would’ve been worse when I was a teenager than as an adult, ya know?. The foreshadowing was beautifully executed and I had to take breaks because it was so SAD. There are so many bittersweet moments in this fic, and my hats off to the author for how well written they are.

It has a prequel called Ditches (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7394291/1/Ditches). It's incomplete, but it ends with one of the most beautiful lines. It's a simple line, but MAN does it get the point across!

does every fandom have a fic that seems to be super popular for some inexplicable reason, and when you look at the summary or you try to read it you just can NOT get into it. either it's just subpar writing or the plot is like a really extreme AU, but you still try to read it bc you feel like well all these people really like it there must be SOMETHING to it and you don't want to miss out on something really good

I was trying to explain to someone that Gutters did the exact same thing to the Hetalia fandom that LFLS did to the TMNT fandom years later and like. Damn. That kid had no idea what Gutters or even Hetalia was.

It was a good reflection, too! I pointed our how social media influenced both works' rise in popularity and how similar they were. It was a good reflection!

But it was a lost cause 😔
