📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?

Definitely! It depends on what you are looking for, so here's a few of my faves in a couple different categories:

***Edit: I'm adding a cut bc it's just occurred to me to mention, anyone new who's not done the series but is seeing this - I do have a spoiler-safe fics list that Scotti and I were working on at one point, so if there's a specific season you're looking for, but not wanting to know what twists come after (or if you're looking for fic for a specific episode or event), feel free to inbox me and I'll send some links. :)

Below this cut there are descriptions that spoil all sorts of things, so.....***

For Jeller, everything by @indelibleevidence is outstanding. I'm gonna start out saying probably a majority of it has passages that are NSFW so if you're a minor or not into that, tread lightly. I'm currently revisiting Remember to Forgive, which has late-season 3 Weller suffering amnesia that takes him mentally back to early season 2; you know, when he couldn't stand to be in the same room as his wife. The angst! It's a fave and totally my jam, I could probably quote it. Torture Without You is... well. Read it. Amazing. I'm a big Remi fan, and here you will also find one of our two Reller champions: the Damaged Goods series is so dark (also very NSFW) but soooo good.

@idealisticrealism is another that everyone should definitely read, imo. The Fire is basically my favorite one-shot ever, and she's our other Reller champion - as complete AUs go I can not possibly overstate my love for From the Ashes and Into Flames. I could literally quote them both to you.

@gypsyscarfwoman is responsible for my other favorite one-shot, Nothing Can Come Between Us, which is Jeller after season 2, but from Sarah Weller's POV. It's just a tiny bit angsty but fluffy and sweet. I love the way she describes the interactions between Jeller as viewed by a concerned third party. There's also Shelter From Your Storm, which is another season 2 AU except that post compound raid there's legitimate concern Nas might throw Jane under the bus and let the CIA have her, so Weller fake marries her to legitimize and protect her.

@ladyriot recently did a lovely retelling of s2 but as a Jane/Patterson slow burn. The way they low key agonize over each other is tragic, but the ending is so sweet without being completely saccharine, and it's definitely worth a look.

I haven't read much Zapatterson but @narvaldetierra is actively writing them. I read Remembers from September and No Good Deed Goes Unpunished a while ago, and I'm excited to reread them soon and then keep working through this ship 😁

Dylan Cruca is worth checking out if you want a bit of season 2/3 Jeller canon divergence/extra scenes, or Jeller/Reller AUs - I thought their post-season 1 AU ended up being a particularly interesting twist - but they're not for everyone.

I could go on but I'll end with one that's basically the fic equivalent to a playlist of Sad Songs to Sob To: Silence Speaks by lochness20, in which Jane's black site escape attempt fails, and when they find her, she is in a REALLY bad state. Warning that it's pretty dark and brutal and tw for suicidal thoughts and an eventual very graphic murder.

🏷 Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?

I don't really look for specific tags; it's not a huge fandom so there's not a ton of room to be choosy. I can say that straight whump isn't my thing, nor is pure domestic stuff, and I generally steer clear of pregnancy/kidfic unless there's some other compelling plot alongside the kids. I guess I basically love angst most of all 😍

For what it's worth, this is what worked for us: borax / sugar traps (commercially available as Terro traps), followed by sprinkling food-grade diatomaceous earth anywhere they enter/ leave. We used to have terrible ant problems, and since we've done this, we only see a few every year.

Yeah, I’m using those traps as well, but they take a few days to show an effect. I’ve never heard of diatomaceaous earth, but I might look into it for a prevention solution. Anyway, thank you!

That’s true; I still took it as for us we thought that person had been gone for a while, but who knows! For the characters, it would definitely be a shock to see any of those people again after that long.

🎄 Festive Fic Exchange Recs ❄

There were so many wonderful stories that were posted in the JB Festive Festival Exchange 2021 collection, and I couldn't resist sharing some of my favorites with everyone.

Now I haven't read all of them so this is in no way complete, but these are the ones that I've read that have stuck with me.

First up, my gift fic, the absolutely wonderful Traditionally Tarth by @gypsyscarfwoman. I LOVED this story, from start to finish. It starts off with Jaime and Brienne meeting as children on the shores of Tarth where Genna has whisked the kids away for Sevenmas after the death of their mother. A friendship is built, traditions established, and it's just such a beautiful look at the way two people grow closer over time, and that no matter what else is changing in their lives, some things endure. I feel so lucky to have it as a gift.

Next is The Help by @ladym-rules. This fic is absolutely, delightfully adorable. Told from the POV of a new maid at Casterly Rock, the staff thought the newly betrothed Jaime and Brienne detested each other until they realized they absolutely didn't. Super charming and guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

On the other end of the feels spectrum, I've been haunted by lay your weary head by @slipsthrufingers since I first read it. This is a very introspective Brienne fic, taking place in the days following her fight with The Hound. She is lonely and tired and beaten down, and calls on thoughts of Jaime for strength. It made my chest ache in the very best way.

After drowning in Brienne feels, I balanced it out by drowning in Jaime feels by reading damn permanent reverie by @nire-the-mithridatist. Jaime wakes up and heals, and makes himself useful in King's Landing while Brienne returns to Tarth to take over as Evenstar. They both thrive apart, but his longing never goes away, and sometimes even if you can make it apart, you still just want to be together.

For another shift in mood, check out Jaime's Guide to the Lannister Family: Sevenmas Edition by the delightful and diabolical @naomignome. I laughed so hard reading this that I was concerned I was going to sprain something. Naomi is a genius with PowerPoints and this one delivers in a very JamLan style. Absolutely hilarious and yet still adorable (just like her).

The Gray Knight by @pretty--thief was another one that took me on an emotional buffet. Set at a tourney overseen by (a sane) Queen Dany and her steady Hand, Brienne, a mysterious gray knight is steadily working his way through the lists, turning to study the Hand in between rides. I'd go from grinning hugely to feeling like my heart was being squeezed into a pulp. This was beautifully written and will definitely be one I visit repeatedly.

I'm still working my way through them all, but definitely check these out if you get a chance. And remember to kudos/comment the authors of any you do read and enjoy!

I AM JANE - TRAILER 

In 2016, during the #Blindspot summer hiatus, I was working as a receptionist at a family therapy clinic. I have always loved learning about how the human mind works. I started asking some therapists that worked with me about how memories are stored in the brain, and how we remember certain memories more than others. I had a thought, “What would happen if Jane was able to store clues in her memories before her memory wipe?” Season 2 hadn’t started (and I was bored) so I decided to write my own opening for the season. I am the world’s slowest writer so the 70-page story took me about a year to write.

Oh, wow. It’s going to be easier to do my own, because there are way fewer fics written by me, so here are those first:

Top 5 of my own Blindspot fics (in no particular order, and I’m going to limit it to one-shots because most of my multi-chapters are still WIPs):

Discovery and Discussion, which was my 1x01 tag after we started our rewatch this hiatus. I love the idea of Jane trying dishes from different takeout places all in one meal, trying to figure out what she likes, before snagging Kurt’s Indian food because it’s the best one. And the idea of Kurt not being able to say no when she asks him not to leave so soon. Even though they’ve only just met.

Kiss It Better, the 2x12 tag where Jeller make creative use of Kurt’s breakfast bar... Also Jane checks Kurt’s ribs after he’s taken two shots to the vest, because of course he didn’t bother going to medical... (M-rated).

The Right Partner, the post-1x09 canon divergent scene where the team leave Jane’s housewarming happily, because David didn’t get killed, and then Jeller continue dancing. (M-rated)

Stripped Pride - the random borderline-crackfic where Kurt has to wear a policeman stripper outfit and give Jane a lapdance to maintain his cover. I picked this one mainly because I snicker every time I think about it. I don’t really write much out-and-out humour, so this was fun. (Thank you for commissioning it, @chibinoyume!)

Every Step, because it’s one of the only one-shots where I get inside Remi’s head. Even though I had to write her having a nasty spinal tap (and doing the research for that one really freaked me out). It was nice to have Remi appreciate Kurt’s presence within the context of the canon.

A Moment of Silence by piaffe417 - A really interesting, pre-reconciliation-Jeller look inside Kurt’s head.

Shelter From Your Storm by @gypsyscarfwoman - a total classic! It’s a Jeller marriage-of-convenience story, set in season two. Lots of pining and pretending they’re both totally fine with the idea of getting divorced once Jane has US citizenship. Makes me smile. :)

The I Know Your Heart series by @kate-dammit-run - written before season four aired, so it turns out much differently than canon, but it’s got so many lovely little conversations and details.

Christmas and the Gang by rAnsomedrOgue - I just love how this one is put together, with each team member being drawn in one by one, and then the reveal at the end being totally perfect. :D
