Genymotion Android virtualization on a hackintosh vm in a VMware Workstation 12 Windows enviroment.
I’m starting to develop cross-platform apps using Ionic framework, following their guide, they recommend to develop in a Mac OS X enviroment, and such because I’m a poor devil I dont have a Mac at the time of writing this entry, so I opted to use the people’s choice, hackingtosh in a virtual machine over my Windows 10 development machine. After having my enviroment running in the Mac OS X 10.10.5 virtual machine and following the guide to install the ionic framework, I encounter a few problems with the Android Emulator, following this other guide in particular, all went smootly until I reach the installation of the Android Emulator, in the guide they use the genymotion emulator, it’s a Virtual Box based emulator that is said to have a lot of benefits over the traditional AVM (Android Virtual Machine) emulation, the problem with that is that it didn’t worked as the guide told, it returned this error.
Tumblr media
And the VirtualBox error was this one.
Tumblr media
Then i followed this other solution but the error continued afer I succesfully changed the Android VM settings with the command.
Tumblr media
Then the last thing I did was search in the Mac OS X VM settings for the same thing that appeared to be the problem in the first place, “VT-x “, I realized that it wasn’t activated in the first place, so the only thing I did was check the checkbox in the VM settings, “Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI” and voila! It worked like a charm.
Tumblr media
In fact it’s a lot better than the AVM that you install from the android SDK manager, it opens faster and have a better performance in general, so it’s a very neat solution to not having a physical Mac Machine.

Hackintoshing: A one way trip?
Tumblr media
I've been juggling between Windows and Linux for a while now and i finally realized that i hate them BOTH. I hate windows because the system is clearly designed by Microsoft marketing department not by programmers and engineers. I hate linux because there is always something missing that would only work in windows.
I've been struggling with this for at least 10 years now and i finally snapped! This is when i thought about one of my friends who had already bought a Mac. I sure didn't have the money to buy a Mac on a wimp like that but that didn't stop me. I decided i would make a hackintosh out of my PC.
Of course, this is easier said than done, i had to go into a few dark alleys just to stumble into a wall. Starting all over again a few times, it took me 2 weeks to figure things out. I didn't exactly tried the easy path first. The easy path being to read ahead before you do something.
Turns out of course you can't install OS X on your PC like you would any other OS. This is a hack, meaning; you need to force things up a little. Keep in mind that while this is legal in the sense that you pay for the software. When installing it you have to agree to Apple's License stating that you do not own the software, they are giving you the right to use it only in certain conditions, one of them is that you use it only on Apple's hardware.
While it is debatable in a court of law whether or not Apple has the right to restrict you from using it the way you want, Apple could still use a few poor souls one day and make an example of them by going to a civil court with this. We're talking here of something that could cost a few millions dollars worth of layers just to defend yourself if you happen to be one of the chosen few...
With that said there are 4 web site i recommend to get you started, tonymacx86.com, insanelymac.com, olarila.com and osx86.net. Once you made sure that your system is supported in one way or another, you can make a usb installation thumb drive by using a software distributed by tonymacx86; unibeast. Unibeast requires that you already have access to OS X, yeah, this sux, and you need OS X to buy Mountain Lion.
If you dont have a friend with a Mac or a Hackintosh, your gonna have to go to the dark side, that means doing something illegal like downloading an OS X distro you can find on most torrent search engine. Please keep in mind that even if you do buy Mountain Lion after, its not gonna change the fact that the distro your going to download might contain stuff like trojan and keyloggers. So yeah, its a bad idea...
After installing OS X, you need to install Multibeast, also from tonymacx86. You might also need to use a DSDT file. In any case, you need to find instruction for your motherboard, this is to make sure things like network card, sound and graphic cards works the way they should.
At this point, before you start, make a backup of your pictures, documents, music and other important files and information like bookmarks and maybe there is some emails you want to keep? You can print those on a pdf file using PDFCreator. Please keep in mind that any OS install will DESTROY ALL DATA still on your hard drive. If you want you could also install OS X on a virtual computer using software like VirtualBox. You can also use VirtualBox as a practice before you do it with your own computer. You should also at least have a copy of Windows or Linux in case things go bad and you should know how to install it.
If you want OS X, you might consider just buying a Mac Book, this is probably what i would've done if the latest Mac Pro didn't turn out to look exactly like my bedroom trash bin... I had bought an Apple Magic Mouse too, and i loved it, when it worked... i mean, it integrate very well with the desktop experience, i would never use anything else with a mac. But as far as battery consumption goes, it eats batteries up almost as fast as gorilla would ingest bananas. And i do hate wireless mouses as much as i hate my ex-girlfriend.
For me hackintoshing was a one way dead end. I ended up reinstalling OS X so much that my itunes account as been locked up for 9 month. That was like being slapped in the face. i had drm free backup of all my songs thanks to the itunes match service, but as far as my Doctor Who subscription, i'm gonna have to download the next episode using BitTorrent. Anyway, i'm back using Linux for my desktop. I bought a small used Tablet Pc that has a few windows only features, so i'll just stick with windows on it. Oh and that "Magic Mouse", its in small pieces, my trash bin got the most of it.

Trying to figure out what to do with my slow-poke Macbook
Need to get rid off an a 2009 Air that will probably fetch around $500-600 on eBay. My options include:
A 2010 Core 2 Duo Air with 4gb ram for around $750
A 2011 Core i5 Air base air for a bit less than $900
Some kind of hackintosh desktop for as little as, say, $300-400, given that I have spare parts laying around. The problem is that I want a small, mini-itx base system that can be fit into a shoebox size case, and the parts that are available for this are limited. There should be new, updated parts coming out but only in early September.
What do?
