My computer went kaput. My husband and I were planning to get a new one, but just couldn't find the time, so of course, inevitably, I got a copy editing assignment before I had gotten a new computer.

My husband managed to get one on Tuesday, but didn't have time to set it up or anything, which is a shame, because he can apparently build computers and whatnot. We've been married a dozen years and I just now learned that about him in the past couple months.

I'm fairly computer-illiterate. I mean, I can turn it on and use it, but setting things up, getting my monitors arranged, etc., I'm not the best. And unfortunately, I was unable to do a complete backup of my old computer before it went down, so not everything was in the right place.

My husband had work yesterday, but I needed to at least get started on the project, so I set to work plugging in the new computer and downloading all my things. One of my monitors had a weird cord that I thought was so unique that I might have to get a whole new fucking monitor because I'd be unable to find an adapter. I tried to work on my project with just one monitor, but unfortunately the one with the normal cord was my side monitor, and my chronic pain is such that if I'm looking sideways for any extended amount of time, I will have severe neck pain. So I decided to switch the places of my two monitors.

Easier said than done. My desk is covered with little pieces of paper, notes to myself, passwords for various patient portals and websites and payment portals, mementos from weddings, Christmas cards, etc. I got very overwhelmed because I couldn't decide where to put everything, how to sort it, how to put it away, and was starting to have a breakdown...

But then I had a stroke of genius: I got a little tote bag and put all of the desk ephemera into it to deal with later. Then I was able to switch the monitors. (And it turned out I was able to sort all of the things sooner than I thought I would be, because my computer needed an update, natch.)

I tried working with just one monitor for a bit, but it was a struggle. I have documents that I reference while I'm copy editing, and switching back and forth between them on the same monitor was a pain in the ass and made it difficult to compare things. So I decided to see if maybe we had an old cord somewhere that was somehow miraculously the adapter that I needed. And miracle of miracles, in a ziplock bag labeled "old computer," I found one.

So I plugged in the additional monitor. But then I had to switch the monitors back for better outlet/ power strip efficiency, and after I did that, my mouse would no longer move between the two monitors. And then when I opened the display settings, the window opened on the monitor I couldn't access (mouse refused to move over), so I couldn't adjust the settings. And no amount of googling or scrolling Reddit was able to provide a solution for this specific problem.

So I had another breakdown, but then just unplugged the problem monitor and that fixed it.

I'm extremely proud of myself. I've always had someone else manage the switch when I've upgraded computers, starting in roughly 2004 when I got my first laptop. I've never done it on my own. It took three hours probably, but fucking did it. I did it by myself. And I navigated two emotional breakdowns, plus found a solution the internet couldn't offer.

I was (am) exhausted, and after paring down the previous style sheet to suit the new manuscript, I only got about 10 pages into this 500-page book that's due back May 25th, but holy shit I achieved a lot. Badass alert over here.

I got a new computer!

I named it Blåhaj.

It came from a company named something with shark. So naturally I had to name it Blåhaj. Since I am trans and nonbinary there was no other way.

This is the wallpaper I made for it. Priorities, ammirite?

And now I have decided to try playing minecraft java, in order to play with some of my friends on a private server.

Atlas H376 – results for 2024 year and a little more, and red orchestra

By the way, I have, already, for several years a modern computer. With it, I can play modern games. With high graphics settings. It is something new for me. I can say. I have this system for several years, already.

And, I still name it – new computer. I cannot get enough joy about this. Today, I have i7 processor. And modern Windows. This is first part. Second part - it is a moment, that I was without video card for some time. Now I have Rtx 3050 8gb version. So now, I have full set for videogames! It was happened with 2023. As I remember – with summer.

And a modern gamer I become, already, only, when I start to play. By weekends. Or regular. This happened before new year 2023-2024. So, that’s why, I add some more time. And little more time. Last month from 2023. And, I start, at last, play regular. And, this is a story, already.

Let’s speak about videogames. Which I played. By now, I speak about 2024. And what I played there. Which games I can point. These games – I have never seen before. And, lots of new things for me. So, this happened. I am, something like, a gamer. And, I get into theme of creepy shooters, military shooters. For some time, I was playing this kind of games. Later, I set for racing theme. About rally. Snow and desert. All over the world racing.

I tell about what I played. Which I select for 2024.  

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41–45

At the new year, I start to play this game. In weekends, holidays. I decide to try some shooter game. And for this game and killing floor – it is same developer. I, maybe, should to buy them as a pack. Or one after another. This is about second world war theme. Shooter. Shooter with first person view. With some reality effects. Like simulation. And, it is, something like, about network. But, it is ok to add bots. And, play single player game. Maps are big. Different.

It is interesting to play. Game has interesting idea. Good realization. Maps are, also, very different. One thing, that is for 2024 – I wanted to have some patch, which gives ability to add more bots. It is so big scales map. And, whole military episodes. And, they require more players or bots. Today modern computer can afford this. And 30 and 40 and even more players or bots.

Bots have more or less simulation kind of behavior. They go as a group. They enter, they go aside. Rather simulation. This is plus. Well, of course, You can catch them someplace, while you know their route. But, well, not always. Bots – it is big plus.

First map. Which I start. It was winter. And destroyed city. There are ruins there after the buildings. And you run along them. And snow hills. And destroyed buildings, ruins. They are, already, as a snow hills. Obstacles to avoid. And, there is a railroad station. With trains. Station. It is not touched, like a miracle. It was a first map, I start to play. Rather scary. Fear. As horror. And so extreme. And, anyway, - this is only a videogame.

Next, there is a map, also in winter. There is a big park there. Which is not so easy to cross. It is open space. And. Everyone. is shooting there. Someone to some place trying to go. There was even a tank. There. Also. a maps for summer. Field. Several trees. And. you are running there, up to the hills. Summer. Weather is good. Or there are lots of trenches in the field.

There are lots of maps. Bots are playing as for your side. As against you. There are lots of weapons. It is all so simulation kind. I cannot understand how to use machinegun for the first time. First, it is good to sit down. Next, take a machine gun and set it. There are different rifles. I played with different maps. Winter and summer. For Soviet side. Game is so real. Saying the truth, it is sad, that developers do not support game anymore, this version of game. It is very interesting shooter game about second world war.

Next time. I tell one more, about games I played in 2024. So, this is so late results for 2024 for my modern computer.

Here’s my new computer being set up—it’s going to be a while, lol. It’s Windows 11 Pro, 32gb ram, and 2tb SSD. I forgot what the graphics card, but I plan to upgrade it to a Nvidia graphics—does anyone have recommendations? I’m looking forward to finally playing my Sims!!! Just—AGAIN—pray that my harddrive dock works and is able to pull off my files… or at least a majority of them. 🖤🖤🖤 Please, I need all the luck, hope, prayers, wishes, etc. I can get.

Sooo...I'm cleaning up my files in preparation for moving everything on my old computer to my new computer and....I found this folder of files that has been there since my first computer. I have files from 1998. Some of them even open. (Not a lot, but some.) They are going to get deleted. Most of them are absolutely useless, but I can't believe they've been hiding in some file in the background for all this time.

Hey Ya'll!!! I got a new computer a few days ago! I'm so happy to finally have one again, I've been playing spore like crazy and have been saving a ton of wallpapers onto my computer, here's a screenshot of Captain Smark, He's my favorite creature in this game and I plan to recreate him in a new playthrough on this computer!

MY COMPUTER HAS ARRIVED! I can bully iPad kids in Roblox once again! (For legal reasons this is a joke. I just like to argue with them.)

But now I’ll be able to log into tumbler AND quotev, and write again and hopefully faster. I also think I’m gonna upload my nanny McPhee fic into AO3 once I finish first chapter.
