hacks (3.01) was so fucking gay down to it ending with “the story” by brandi carlile, one of the gayest songs of all time.

I'm rewatching Hacks 3.01 which is a phenomenal episode of television that makes me feel crazy. I feel like we don't talk about the fact that Ava smells Deborah's perfume instantly on *someone else* after a year apart and the mere mention of Deborah being at the same conference made her sweat through her shirt after, again, a year apart. they're insane!!! 😭 even though they're not canonically romantically together (debatable at this point) the entire episode is a getting back together episode

I just rewatched that one last night! HONESTLY, and the face Ava makes when she smells it...girl...you got it so bad...

And truly, everything about that episode is a post-break-up meeting, it's insane. Ava trying to make Deborah jealous??? "Just one drink," etc etc. Followed immediately by that texting montage in episode 2, further cementing the getting back togetherness!!

Happy 3.05 day!

Manifesting Ace and Amanda rethinking their ~priorities~ soon (like maybe this ep?? please???) so i thought i’d share this little snippet from my 3.01 fic (which i stg is coming soon help) in case i end up being on the right track with their plot, like at all. which i’m probably not. 

but anyways this is what i’m thinking ace and amanda’s conversation before she left might have been like, if indeed their relationship isn’t as stable as ace is pretending, which is kinda a common theory, i think. anyways enjoy, this isn’t really nace but like. the implication is there. i promise this is v much a nace fic.

Forcing himself to think about something else, his mind lands on Amanda. 

Sweet Amanda, who’s off on her solo hike along the Camino de Santiago until the end of the week.

Amanda, who had insisted he return to Horseshoe Bay while she left for the airport. 

Amanda, his girlfriend, who told him before she left that she thought they both needed to take the week to consider whether they should really be each other’s top priorities. 

He had been confused to say the least. 

“Priorities? Amanda, are you breaking up with me?” he had asked. 

“No! No, Ace. But our whole trip, you’ve felt like you left something behind at home, and I.. I just think I need to spend a little time on my own. Looking out for Gil was my top priority for so long and now you.. I need to check in with myself too.” 

“Amanda,” he had said, “I am fully in support of you checking in with yourself. If you need to be your own top priority right now, I totally get that. But, you know that prioritizing each other doesn’t have to preclude having other priorities, right? Yes, I know, it's a massive contradiction, but-” 

“Ace,” she had cut him off, “I know, we’ve talked about that, but that’s not what this is about.” 

“Then what is it?” he had asked. 

“It’s just, I just worry that the other things that are important to us, as individuals, could get compromised. I’ve never been in a serious relationship like this before, and I guess I don’t know how to balance. I’m all in, or barely in at all; no in-between… I think I just need to take the week to think, okay? And you should too, you know. I know you have a life that’s important to you back in Horseshoe Bay, and you know I don’t necessarily feel the same about the place. I don’t want anything to turn into a…  conflict of interest, I guess.” 

“Amanda… It really feels like you’re trying to break up with me,” was all he could think to say.

“Ace, I’m not, I swear,” she’d insisted. “I really don’t want to, in fact. Just please promise me, you’ll think about what I said?” 

He had promised her he would, but still, he feels like he’s missing something. He’s always thought of himself as someone who could easily stay on top of multiple priorities. He has to, because he has many; spending enough time with his parents, fulfilling his platanchor duties with Bess, keeping his laptop charged and at the ready in case of emergency hacking necessities, and helping his friends when he can, however he can, just to name a few. When he told Amanda he’d wanted to prioritize her, he had been officially adding her to the top of the list, but that had never required diminishing the rest.

Sure, those don’t all have to be considered priorities - he’s well aware that the word “priority” is supposed to mean the most important thing, as in one singular thing. He just doesn’t work like that, especially since finding this group of people he cares about so much. He tries to think if any of those things could possibly interfere with his priorities relating to Amanda. Unless she’s planning on moving away like Laura did, he doesn’t see why they should have to. Maybe that’s what she was alluding to. 

He shakes his head lightly, dislodging the thought. No, she would have just told me.

They can sort it out when she gets back, or before that, if she ever deigns to text him back. In the meantime, he supposes he owes it to her to do as she asked, and really think about his priorities...
