#have been attempting to make a self-tape for this audition for DAYS#after a whole helluva lotta bullshit having to do with hunting down a time+space+camera to film with i Finally managed to get some takes#then some weird bullshit with the camera's sd card happened where i wasnt able to pull the files off onto my laptop#FINALLY able to copy the files to my laptop. he shuts it abruptly, the sound making you jump, his voice instantly soothing your mind.
"did you bring any references?"

alex tuts, setting the portfolio back down and walking to you, tapping your chin so you'd look up at him, which you do.

"you wanna go get 'em for me?" alex asks as he sits down on the chair in front of your camera. you say yes, waiting on him to tell you where to go.
"just that shelf there, the gray one."
you hold the hefty photo album in your hand and hand it to him, standing behind him, leaning in to look at the pictures.
calling them gorgeous would be an understatement. you had been passionate for photography for as long as you could remember and you had never seen pictures that had captured the human essence that beautifully.

some of my favorite agents of shield fun facts (season 1 edition)
- while filming the scene where skye gets sh*t by ian quinn in 1x13 [T.R.A.C.K.S], they took hours to film not only because the scene was so intense, but because there was a christmas parade happening nearby that was so loud it kept interrupting the shot.
- another shot interruption occurred in 1x16 when filming scenes at the race track. they couldn’t shut down the track entirely during filming so halfway through a scene a horse would charge past in the background and they would have to reshoot the scene.
- chloe had such a bad driving reputation back in season one that she was banned from driving all golf carts on the lot. she also accidentally stalled a car while rehearsing a scene and everyone panicked.
- they only had 15 days to film 1x01. FIFTEEN DAYS TO FILM EVERYTHING.
- in the end of episode 1x12 [Seeds], there’s a moment where coulson is voicing over and says “the world is full of evil and lies.” during this moment, the camera is on ward. this is one of the first main references of ward secretly being hydra.
- there were three-ish main sets for backgrounds during season one. set 16 was their “labyrinth set” with random sets like the abandoned race track, parts of Providence, john Garrett’s “layer” and a small set for the Freezer.
- clark gregg was so adamant about the casting for the cellist that he actually called audrey nathan personally and told her she was perfect for the role.
- on the day the cast was to meet to discuss filming the last two episodes of the season, a 4.4 earthquake hit los angles which the cast though was foreshadowing the darker episodes to come.
- to represent coulson coming back after what happened to him during the avengers, the wardrobe department tailored his suits differently to give coulson a “new feel”. they really said “let’s mix this shit up and give him a slicker [yes, that’s the word they used] suit.”
- also, coulson never wears black suits after his death due to loki. he only wears shades of grey, never plain black as it reminds him of death.
- the only direction the wardrobe department was given on ward’s outfits was that he needed to look sexy. that’s it.
- as the season progresses, skye wears darker clothes to represent her loss of innocence as the situations get darker.

What are thoughts of the recent resurgence in popularity of 1973 mafia movie Goncharov?
It's always exciting to discover new lost media, but if I have to give a hot take I'll say it's overrated due to the hype right now, and people will reappraise it a bit more calmly once the furor's died down.
It's clearly the work of a filmmaker still finding his feet, trying to figure out his sensibilities and straining against financial limitations put on him by the production budget.
Like, yeah, the scene with the church windows is cool, and you can interpret them as thematic if you want to, but honestly, to me it's clear that the pyrotechnics just weren't calibrated correctly and it went off way too big. And after the damage it did to the masonry there's no way to reset the shot (afaik the priest refused reshoots?), so they just had to go with bad footage. Yes, they edited around it okay, but it's the kind of sloppy workaround that Scorsese's better movies simply do not struggle with.
Also, De Niro is obviously giving a strong performance, but while it may have been interesting in the 70s, through a modern lens I just don't vibe as much with these tortured explorations of unmoored masculinity struggling to come to terms with a changing world, and I think people are too willing to interpret the relationship with Andrey through a romantic lens. It reads to me more like a criticism of the presumed emotional deadness of the Other behind the Iron Curtain in a way that honestly feels a bit dehumanizing.
Anyway, I don't wanna yuk anyone's yum, it's a great movie, it just didn't connect with me the way it has with others.

I never hold budget issues against a series that was made with love.
Sound engineering issues abound in most Thai BL series. I don’t have industry experience, but I think a lot of those issues stem from a very short postproduction window. Most series are filmed over a few months and then they’re put together in even less time—usually while the series is airing. Nuchy, director of Not Me, was editing some episodes the night before they aired. Not because she wanted to, but because she was under a strict, tight budget and didn’t have the time to do it any earlier. She’s gone into minute detail about the budgeting issues they faced, and it’s nowhere more obvious than in how the writing unspooled toward the end of the series—where they had episodes cut mid-production and didn’t have time to course-correct or edit or reshoot properly.
Meanwhile, shows on Netflix or Amazon or Disney take much longer to film, and postproduction takes even longer. Spending hours picking through each minute of footage for accidental clothing noises or unexpected sounds or muffled voices or echoing rooms takes budget. So does paying everyone to come back and reshoot a scene when you can’t remove those sounds.
Recently we found out that Prem wanted to add a pool-related scene to the end of Between Us because he thought it would enhance the story, but the production had already wrapped filming at the pool. So Prem offered to pay most of the cost of renting that location again because the production just didn’t have the money to do reshoots on a whim. Prem understands that and still wanted to shoot the scene because Between Us is a passion project about characters he loves. And New, the director, covered the rest of the cost as well as the cost to hire everyone back for that one scene.
Like most series, there have been sound issues in Between Us. But I’ve noticed more of them in the past few episodes than in the first five, likely because they had more time to work on those. During the homophobia scene in episode seven, Boun’s mic was under his shirt, so when he hugged Prem, his dialogue was muffled. The fact that they kept that take doesn’t mean they’re lazy or they don’t care—I have no idea how many other takes they had, or why they couldn’t use a boom mic instead, or what other technical issues they were having. I suspect they didn’t have the time or resources to correct it.
What I do know is that there has been a metric ton and a half of love put into this series by every person involved, and for me personally, that’s all I want from any series. A series can be as well-produced and dazzling as can be, but if there’s no heart in it, my interest in it plummets like a rock. I’ve dropped better funded series because they’re flashy and pretty but there’s no heart in them. They’re purely a vehicle to launch their actors into the larger marketing scheme.
So, y’know. Win’s changing roots, sound issues, etc., none of it makes a dent for me, and it’s why I never mention them even though I’ve noticed. That’s surface-level stuff that doesn’t make a significant difference to me. The acting, the story, and the character growth—that’s what I came for, and I think that’s what they’re excelling in. Boun and Prem have loved WinTeam for over three years, and it’s clear from their every scene together that they committed every iota of feeling to their performances.
They could have dropped Between Us at any point. Their popularity was skyrocketing before they even started filming, and the only reason they were only playing side characters in other series for so long was their commitment to Between Us. They love the story and the characters so much they both agreed to effectively put their careers on hold. They kept their popularity on a steady increase by doing promotional, sponsored work while they waited for their passion project.
It’s passion that I love. I’ll always love a story told with sincerity over a series that took thousands or millions more and lacks emotional depth. Everyone’s priority is different, of course, and some people value both production quality and emotional depth equally.
I’ll always look the other way with production shortcomings if the people telling the story are telling it with their whole heart.

i wish certain people would realise how hyperbolic they sound, saying that cutting a karaoke montage is disrespectful to the characters or.... baiting a certain audience. like, episodes get edited. priorities change.
did the scenes convey what they wanted without taking up too much time? maybe they found a way to show buddie were too wasted to take care of chimney that allowed them to avoid doing song licensing. maybe they would've had to do reshoots and it wasn't in the budget or too difficult to coordinate in a timely manner. maybe it just wasn't that important to the overall story they want to tell, looking at the roadmap or scripting for the remaining episodes. maybe they wanted a tonal shift. maybe they'll reuse the scenes in a flashback later down the line.
(less likely but maybe they saw all the baseless kiss or drunken hookup speculation and realised those fans would be disappointed even if they left the karaoke scenes in as intended, because they didn't match the fan speculation, and deemed it not worth it? because let's be real, they would've gotten disappointed comments even then.)
i love buddie very much but they're part of an ensemble cast. they're not the #1 priority in madney's fucking wedding episode. (and we're still gonna get heaps of them i'm sure.) kenny wouldn't have mentioned it so casually if they'd expected backlash - meaning they probably didn't cut anything of relevance, even if it would've been fun to see.
(also, hate campaigns or however you'd define flooding the show's comment section with demands is cringe. it's not gonna get you what you want, it's just gonna make you look more annoying in the eyes of everyone who sees it.)

"Oh my god, no" is a great pull quote. Looks great on a tweet, great on a t-shirt, but the actually interesting thing he said is buried in the article - "That’s the absolute best version of that movie that you could possibly imagine in the time that was given.”
It's no secret that Gilroy came on after the directors cut, with a limited timeframe for rewrites and reshoots. He ended up running a lot of those reshoots and his regular editor (and brother) John also joined the edit team. They had maybe six months (less with sound mix, VFX etc). Gilroy ended up with a screenplay credit which means that he must have written at least a third of the final film. Again, came on after the directors cut. He rewrote at least a third of the directors cut. And he did the best he could in the time he had.
But the thing is, Andor is a do-over of Rogue One.
There's an undercover break-in to a secure imperial facility by a group of mismatched rebels. Cassian spends time in an Imperial prison labour camp, just like Jyn did (very briefly) in the opening of R1.

There's the devastating death of a parent, a mining city with its own culture being slowly crushed under an Imperial occupation, a career driven Imperial enemy who you kinda root for cos they're surrounded by even bigger assholes.

There's a rebel leadership divided about how much they can sacrifice on missions that might lead to nothing. The Heist crew even has a queer couple divided by one person's single minded faith and use of violence, and a key team member who is an imperial traitor.

And Cassian's central character arc in Andor is going from an apolitical survivor who only looks out for himself because he's paid the price for trying to change the system, to someone who is willing to die for the cause.
Which, on paper, is also Jyn's arc in Rogue One.

But Andor had time. It has about four times the runtime of Rogue One to actually dig deep into the characters, and to actually set-up and play out tensions in the heist and prison arcs.
And it also had time in pre-production. Time to write the damn scripts. Gilroy had time to bounce ideas back and forth with his brother Dan and Beau Willimon, stress testing the story and the episodes and the characters, then they split the scripts and wrote full arcs. In the scripting stage. Not after principal photography, like he had on Rogue One. From those scripts, Luke Hull had the time to build a full, immersive sets and worlds. Michael Wilkinson got to develop a language around the costuming. Nicholas Britell had time to write a full symphony for the score (Michael Giaccino had 4 weeks to write Rogue One's music).

When you really thought about how long you had known one another, it brought a smile to your face. You and Jack had known each other for five years, but you found it extremely difficult to remember a time when he wasn’t in your life.
It was 2017 when you and your best friend Shelby stumbled upon Jack and his friends filming the music video for “Dark Knight.” You had both started your sophomore year of college and were spending the weekend in Kentucky finally letting loose at some local clubs.
Something about Jacks over-eager confidence and the way he carried himself caught your immediate attention. You couldn’t hear what he was saying but you heard the tone of his voice, intrigued by what was going on, the two of you stopped and watched.
His friend, who you later knew as Copelan had approached you first. He was eyeing Shelby up and down and you knew he was her type so you left her to talk with the curly-haired guy approaching you.
“Hey, I’m Jack, it’s nice to meet you” his voice was deep, his subtle southern accent lingering at the tail end of his words. He shook your hand, keeping things extremely formal which caught you off guard at first. The smile he wore ear to ear was telling, and he maintained eye contact when he spoke to you.
By the end of the night the two of you had gotten to know each other pretty well, Jack sat with you a majority of the night as everyone else messed around, taking pictures and editing what had already been filmed of the music video.
His best friend Urban came over to show him some of the pictures, sitting along the brick wall with the both of you before excusing himself to smoke.
It was quiet for a moment until Jack spoke again “I’m actually moving to Atlanta soon.” He had been holding that in all night, waiting for the right time to share that information.
“Oh yeah?” You cheekily hummed, eyeing over his features. “Why didn’t you tell me when I told you where I go to college, dork?”
“Hey! I just met you. I had to make sure it was safe first” he joked, a snort escaping him. His laugh caught you off guard, making you lean against him as you giggled too.

Fast forward to present day, you and Jack had kept in touch over the years with flights back and forth to one another as often as possible.
You and Jack had only tiptoed around the idea of being with one another, the two of you afraid to cross certain boundaries but silently welcoming others. You had never slept together, in the same bed sure, but with one another, never. (Although, you’d both jump at the chance.) You always kissed but it was never around anyone else and stayed between the two of you.
You couldn’t help but feel like a secret, but feeling as though you had no leg to stand on when it came to confronting the situation you stayed quiet even when it ate at you.
You were waiting for him in the parking lot, leaning against your car. He was running late today which was unlike him, making your anxiety heighten. You nervously picked at your nails, trying to mentally remind yourself to stop.
When you saw a familiar car pull in, a smile spread across your face. Jack was quick to get out of his car, immediately spotting you.
“Hey you” Jack jogged over to you his curls bouncing off his forehead with every sway. He held you with his entire body, the smell of his cologne hitting you like a freight train.
“I’m so sorry! I was supposed to leave the photoshoot an hour ago but there were reshoots and I had to push the music video back Urban was supposed to tell you but seeing as though I’m the only one here I-“
You kissed him, knocking the wind out of him momentarily. You were slightly worried that he’d be quick to pull away you did first and when he didn’t you deepened the kiss, slipping your tongue between his recently moisturized lips.
“Sorry, I just missed you.”
His eyes widened, surprised at your bold move, but he didn’t hate it. He looked around briefly before leaning into you for another long-lasting kiss, his hands exploring your backside as the two of you fought for air.
“You’re actually the last one here, everyone else is inside.”
“Oh! So I’m being a diva?” He smirked, knowing you had referred to him as a diva one time two years ago and it really stuck.
“Once a diva, always a diva” Your face got warm at the banter between the two of you. It would only be a brief moment before you were brought down to Earth by the chaos in the room but you embraced it nonetheless.
“Oooo stink, you get on my nerves” he playfully rolled his eyes as he turned to lock his car.
“You know I hate that nickname” you giggled as you walked arm and arm to the door of the video set.
“Hates a very strong word” he blushed, bending down to kiss you before slipping his arm out of yours and opening the door.
“Yeah, that’s why I’d rather tell you that I love you,” you thought to yourself. The words fought to come out of your mouth, instead, you gave him a soft smile as the doors opened.
Jack had been trying to film four music videos back to back for his most recent concept album, and when he asked you to be his love interest you didn’t hesitate even when the storyline felt oddly familiar. You never poked at his lyrics or his art, letting him tell the stories he wanted to and keeping whatever you assumed to yourself.
“Y/N? Cole, nice to meet you” Cole Bennett was the director on set, Jack trusted him with his vision so it made the most sense for him to film the music videos for this album.
“This is y/n. She’s my love interest today” Jack teasingly responded knowing only you would understand the weight behind his words.
“Perfect! I need you both on set marked number one over there”
Cole pointed to the left corner of the studio, and you walked with Jack trying to meet his pace. He immediately went into work mode, his demeanor much more polished than two minutes ago.
The rest of the girls on set gawked at him, as you walked by. A sense of pride came over you, knowing he had picked you and not them but you were always quickly brought back down to Earth.
“I think I got lip gloss on your mustache” you whispered as the two of you sat and waited at set one. Jack opened his camera on his phone, wiping it from his facial hair.
“We have to be more careful” he whispered, only half jokingly which you ignored as best as you could.
After hair and makeup were complete, you were eager to get the scenes done, but time was going by so slowly with Jack growing more and more irritable by the minutes that passed.
“Hey, it’s going to be fine. Breathe” you whispered between takes, feeling his frustrations shining through.
“I think the lighting is too harsh, don’t you think?” Jack hollered out to Cole pointing to the yellow lighting above the two of you. Ignoring your efforts to calm him.
“It has to be unplugged from the top, we can turn one off otherwise it’ll be too dark and it won’t contrast well” Cole started to look around for a ladder.
“I can go ask the hardware store next door if we can borrow one?” Urban suggested.
“That will take too long. I’ll just stand on the car” Jack replied earning worried looks from Urban and Copelan who were both on set.
“Just wait a second dude” Copelan scoffed knowing how impatient Jack could be.
“Fuck that” Jack jumped up on the back end of the car, moving it slightly as he stood on his tiptoes to unplug the light beam, it was then that he lost his footing falling off the back end of the car with a thump.
“FUCK!” His voice echoed throughout the studio and you quickly jumped out of the car and to his aid as everyone else scrambled over to the both of you.
“Bubs, holy shit. Are you okay?” You weren’t mindful of the nickname given the circumstance and no one had heard you but him anyway.
Jack was holding his ankle, rocking back and forth as he winced in pain. “Mmmm- nope, no.” He was trying to focus on his breathing but the throbbing was increasingly worse by the seconds that passed.
“Fuck- we need a medic. Now” Cole saw the swelling grow worse and worse, Jack's ankle the size of a baseball.
“I need you to lean back on your hands and stretch your legs out okay? Urban can you get the pillows from set two?” You were trying your best to help him as best as you could without panicking.
Urban nodded running off to get the pillows to elevate his foot.
Jack swallowed, noticing the eyes on the two of you. Nobody else had gotten too close or involved as you clearly had it covered.
“Why don’t I just wait for a medic? You don’t really know what you’re doing, right?”
The girls on set had giggled to themselves, but loud enough for you to hear.
His entire mood had changed based on the sets of eyes on the two of you, and it wasn’t the first time you had noticed this happen but it was the first time you had been embarrassed enough to react.
You shot him a look of disgust, laced with hurt and he knew he had seriously fucked up. He was in too much pain to respond but he knew later he’d have to do some serious groveling.
Urban showed up with the pillows at the perfect time.
“You can work that out with him.” You mumbled as you pushed past both him and Copelan.
“Wait! Where are you going?” Copelan asked, realizing that everything had changed in an instant. He followed you as you went to get your purse and cell phone.
“Considering our leading man is down for the count? Home.” Your words were laced with anger, trying your best to bite back the frustrated tears as you threw your purse on your shoulder.
“You know he didn’t mean that. He’s just probably embarrassed that he ate shit in front of all the pretty models” Copelan thought his joke would be helpful but if anything it twisted the metaphorical knife that Jack had just inserted into your heart.
You couldn’t hold it in anymore, tears immediately falling from your eyes as the EMTS pushed through the set doors.
“Oh shit. Y/N- he didn’t… I didn’t…” Copelan had no idea what to say or do, turning to look for Urban's assistance as he stumbled over all of his words.
“What did you say?” Urban's face was doused in concern.
You took the opportunity as your moment to leave, rushing out of the doors to your car as Jack groaned out in pain as they struggled to put all six foot three of him on a gurney. The sounds of him screaming made your heart hurt, piercing your eye drums as the set doors shut as you walked to your car.
Urban followed you outside, knowing this wasn’t like you at all. “Y/N!” He ran toward you, hoping he’d be successful at attempting to make you stay.
“Urban- I don’t want to” you breathed heavily trying to steady yourself. “I don’t want to talk to you right now.”
“He’s just in pain so he’s being an asshole” Urban made excuses for him, as he always did.
“Urban- please.”
“You love him” Urban spoke matter of factly, and you knew it wasn’t a question as he blocked you from opening your car door.
“Of course I do, he’s my fucking best friend” You aggressively wiped your face as best as you could to look at Urban.
“No, that’s not what I mean and you know it” Urban awkwardly chuckled, knowing that someday he would have to be in the middle of your maybe not-so-secret romance.
“What does it even matter? He doesn’t feel the same. It’s fine. I just want to go home” you begged, Urban standing in front of your car door. The anxiety of him knowing the depth of your situation had finally hit you.
“Wait- how long have you known?”
“Forecastle weekend?” Urban smugly replied, knowing that was almost a year ago as he stepped away from your car door.
“Remember when he was freaking out about getting on the roof?”
You smiled through your tears knowing exactly what Urban was referring to. “It doesn’t matter now. Can I go home?” You panicked as the set doors opened and Jack was being wheeled to the ambulance.
“You know he’s going to want you there right?” Urban looked over at Jack for a moment but you had already shut your car door.

Two days had passed and Jack was constantly blowing up your phone, with apologies and pleas to see you. You hadn’t replied, turning your read receipts on to prove a point. He had sent flowers, and an edible arrangement but you wouldn’t budge.
He hated being ignored, and you hated being embarrassed, a cruel toss-up.
Urban had been in Jack's ear for the last 48 hours, telling him how much of an idiot he was for how he had acted.
“If you knew about us this whole goddamn time why didn’t you just say something?” Jack struggled to carry his cereal bowl as he had to move around with crutches through his household.
“Here” Urban grabbed the bowl from him and placed it on the kitchen table. “Sit your grumpy ass down.”
Jack cocked a furrowed brow at him, obeying his demand anyway as he struggled to sit down.
“I haven’t known the whole time, only since forecastle weekend. Remember when you asked everyone to give you space?”
Jack nodded trying to recall that moment.
“She stayed with you remember? I left my camera in the room and when I went to get it I saw the two of you kissing.”
Before Jack could say anything Urban interrupted, “And I never told anyone.”
Jack was shocked that Urban hadn’t called him out this entire time. “Why didn’t you say something to me? At least?”
“Figured eventually the two of you would grow the fuck up, guess I was wrong” Urban sighed.
“Me?” Jack scoffed knowing you were intentionally pushing his buttons by ignoring him. “I’ve been trying to talk to her for two days. She won’t answer any of my calls.”
Urban reached in his pant pockets for his cell phone and placed it on top of the table, opening his text conversations with you and sliding it over to Jack.
“She texts me almost every two to three hours and asks about how you are doing.”
Jack's eyes scanned over the messages between you and Urban, a wave of guilt coming over him. “If she texted me, she would know how I’m doing.”
“Keep reading” Urban scrolled down to your last text to him.
Y/N: It’s more than this one instant Urb. It’s all the time, he makes me feel like he’s embarrassed of me and maybe he is so I’m going to stop trying.
“Why would she think that?” Jack was frustrated his ego too inflated to understand in the moment.
“Remember last month when she flew out to go to that game with us? You made her sit with me and Neelam.”
“Okay?” Jack threw his hands up defensively.
“Okay. Or when your mom told you two that you’d be a good couple and you told her you only saw her as a sister.”
“Oh,” Jack started to think of all the instances he downplayed the situation in front of everyone realizing there was more than just those two. He still had Urban's phone in his hand when another text came through.
Y/N: Checking in?
Jack started to furiously type before Urban realized what he was doing it was too late.
“What did you tell her?” Urban grabbed his phone and read over what Jack had sent.
“You think this will work?”
Y/N: On my way.
“I know my girl” Jack smirked.

When you got to Jack's house Urban was waiting outside for you with his arms crossed against his chest. “He took my phone, I have nothing to do with this.”
“Are you kidding me? I almost ran over three pedestrians to get over here.”
“Please just talk to him. He’s driving me bat shit” Urban clapped his hands together pleading for you to stay.
“Fine. I’ll make sure he eats and takes his pills. Go home and I’ll put the big baby to sleep” you groaned, locking your car door as Jack waited eagerly for you in the kitchen.
The front door slammed shut and Jack immediately made his presence known using his crutches to appear in the entryway.
“Hi,” he spoke first.
“Hi,” you mumbled in return eyeing over his wrapped foot and exposed toes.
“You’re an idiot and you desperately need a pedicure. ”
“I deserve that” he smiled, wiggling his toes before pointing to the table with his crutch for you to follow him.
“Where are your pills? Do I need to make you something? Or did you lie to get me here?”
“You weren’t talking to me!”
“So you text me that you wouldn’t take your pain pills or eat until I came to you? Are you insane?”
“It worked didn’t it?”
“Yeah, but only because I didn’t want you to get sick or drive Urban crazy when you were being hangry.” You sat beside him at the table as you took his crutches, moving them out of his way as he steadied himself in his seat.
“You came because you care about me” he was trying to be playful but you were over all the subtly.
“I came because I love you” You felt like you had just imploded any chance of a friendship but you didn’t care, you had to say it.
“You don’t” Jack scoffed, in denial of all that you just laid out to him. His fingers trembled as they sat on top of the table.
“Don’t tell me what I do and don’t feel” Your words were laced with hurt and you could feel the intensity of the room.
“You love the idea of me. You know that I can’t be all that you need, right? I have a busy life” The panic in his voice told you he was terrified of what you said to him.
“I knew what I was getting into. Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid. I know who you are, and all that you come with. Trust me you don’t ever let me forget it.”
“What the fuck does that mean?” Jack was caught off guard by your jab.
“There’s a reason you don’t acknowledge me in public isn’t there? I don’t fit your little aesthetic, I get it” you laughed, standing up and grabbing your purse to leave yet again.
“You know that’s not true. Please. Stay” he begged, his voice cracking. “I can’t chase you, or I would.”
“Tell me. What are you so fucking afraid of?” You stood up as he shuffled in his chair. You handed him his crutches knowing he wanted to stand now too.
“That I love you too and that being with you is the easiest part of my life. That if we overcomplicate things now, I’ll lose you and I know I can’t physically handle that” he felt like he swallowed a spoon full of sand.
The words repeated in your head over and over, blinking back tears.
“Who did you think this entire album was about?” He smirked as your face softened. A wave of relief came over the two of you.
“Shut up right now- did you just say you loved me?”
“I said- who did you think this album was about? But before that I definitely said I love you, yeah” he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself as you took a step forward, wrapping your arms around his shoulders as he struggled to balance himself eventually sitting in the kitchen chair that was behind him.
You bent down, eye level with him, cupping his face.
“I love you, you diva.”
“I love you, stink.”

Johnny was in peak of his career, every movie he was in earning award after award. He was practically expected in every action movie of the decade, along with the occasional rom com. So here he is, looking over the long list of films his agent had procured for him to star in. Most had been by the request of their directors, but a few were movies his agent went out of his way to look into.
Being that films took years of work to film and edit, reshoots and last second voice overs, Johnny could only really commit to one, and the occasional small series or backup role. Looking through the list his attention was caught by a high pace action movie where he would star as the lead; an undercover cop trying to crack down on Los Angeles' street racing epidemic, only to be drawn into numerous hijinks.
It seemed like an interesting concept, the script was good, and he did have experience with this studio and director. But the real draw was the warning that was attached with the script.
Due to the risk factor involved in numerous stunts, scenes, as well as for realisms purposes. All cast members will be required to take safety courses as well as in constant supervision of professional consultant at all times.
He was going to be doing his own stunts and working with a real street racer. If that didn't have 'Cage Flick' written all over it in bold he didn't know what did.
He of course got the part, he still questioned why the audition was even necessary.
His first day on set was simple enough, meeting the cast and crew, as well as a few brief investors for the movie. That was until he met you.
You had grown up in LA and gotten into street racing fairly young, so naturally you were the best pick for this job. And the producers were willing to pay a fuck ton to be able to advertise that extra layer of 'authenticity'.
You were an instant hit with the cast, getting along with nearly all of them instantly. Johnny in particular was rather captivated. It was your first time meeting such a high-profile celebrity, even as a born and raised LA resident.
The attraction on Johnny's part was immediate. Confident, hot, and looked damn good in the driver seat.
Throughout shooting, you had coached Johnny on safety guidelines and how to do complex drifts and turns.
That wasn't to say the attraction was one-sided. Hell, you had thirsted over this man with your friends when you binged his movies. So, when you heard the director making fun over him about his less than hidden attraction towards you, you took your chances.
A hand guiding his when instructing him how to use the gear shift, giving him pats on the back when he figured out how to pull off the reversed driving sequence, and being extra sure he was behind you when you decided to bend over to inspect the hood of the car. (there was nothing wrong with it)
Despite what media would have you think, being an actor is a very busy and grueling job. Johnny had wanted to ask you out a number of times, but by the point he had enough courage and confidence that you were also interested, filming had wrapped up.
So here he was, sitting in an Italian tux, surrounded by some of the most talented minds in the filming industry, with an Oscar nomination, wondering where the hell it all went wrong.
"Johnny" he looked to his co-star sitting to his left. Looking down to see the small bound together papers with the word 'draft' on it.
"It's soon, but, by the looks of it.... It's been greenlit" A sequel?
Well, seeing as he was the main lead, it was no doubt they'd need him to come back. And if they did?
He knew the condition he was going to demand if they wanted him.
Maybe he could finally ask you out for that drink.

Okay I’ve been hearing about massive reshoots for Cap 4 and: 1) I think part of it was because them saying they finished right before the strike was a huge bluff and there were still scenes they needed to take care of and 2) I’m really hoping they take out Sabra and shave off the Hulk stuff. We have to remember also that part of the shooting overlapped with the Writers’ Strike, meaning no edits to the live script while they were shooting during that time as well as no ability to improvise, which might mean some of that needed to be reshot. Reshoots always sound bad, but a lot of good movies have had heavy reshoots before. Most movies have some amount of reshoots. I’m going to hope for the best on this. I can’t believe we won’t see this film until 2025 though. That really sucks but hopefully that means they’re treating their CGI folks better and giving them time.

as usual tumblr is acting very high and mighty about knowing things that other people might not know, and getting very meanspirited about twitter refugees who haven’t heard of goncharov. additionally, there’s a lot of misinformation and jokes floating around that are probably just confusing a lot of people further, which is kind of unfair. the reason you’ve never seen goncharov is because until pretty recently nobody had since the 1970s!
tumblr has always had a thriving community of lost media enthusiasts, and the search for goncharov was kickstarted on here in 2020 after the discovery of a pair of shoes with a label that seemed to promote martin scorsese’s goncharov, a mysterious mafia movie nobody had ever heard of, leading to the ironic ‘this idiot hasn’t seen goncharov’ meme. however, under the surface, a few intrepid lost media excavators wondered, why hadn’t they seen goncharov? was this movie a total hoax?
then in late 2020- an event that got somewhat lost in the jumble of tumblr’s destiel election haze- gonch-heads found an interview with columbia pictures studio head david begelmen (best known for an embezzlement scandal that would be revealed a few years later) that mentioned goncharov. recently the unearthed movie has received praise for its striking visuals, for being a movie truly ahead of its time for the intended 1973 release, so people are often surprised to learn that goncharov was one of the all time production clusterfucks at columbia.
the interviewer quotes begelmen saying, “We don’t say that word [Goncharov],” in a tone that comes across almost scolding. when asked for clarification, he adds: “You know in theater they have the Scottish play? We have that ****ing Naples movie.”
when you look into it, it’s easy to see why goncharov was internally considered a cursed production. there are more thorough posts out there about all the disasters on the set of goncharov, but i’ll go over the two big ones. the enigmatic presence of ilya was created by practical necessity. his role was originally much larger, before the actor died on set (from a heart attack supposedly unrelated to the filming), and much of his part had to be scrapped. studio shakeups as columbia nearly went bankrupt (not helped by goncharov’s ambitious budget) and moved shooting from gower street to burbank resulted in much of the physical film going missing, thought to be destroyed until nearly 15 years later. around this time, rather than attempt to go into reshoots for an expensive nightmare led by a rookie director, the filming was canned completely.
i think because scorsese is so high profile now, people forget that in 73, he was barely scorsese. he was an up-and-coming director with some borrowed clout, but goncharov was a costly mistake that nearly ended his career. there’s a reason he rarely speaks about it. this was only compounded by matteo j.
a lot of people out there will tell you that j was the real director of goncharov, and this is false, if not an understandable mistake. matteo j has been off the grid for decades now and there’s a lot of speculation about who he was, his involvement with the original goncharov project, and why he went underground. there are rumors that he ran afoul of the actual mafia, but in my opinion that’s just sensationalism- you might as well say that the goncharov curse took him out. all we REALLY know is that he was at some point an employee of columbia pictures who gained access to the lost reels of goncharov.
j may at best be responsible for compiling his recovered goncharov footage in the late 80s, into a film which he tried to release in italy in partnership with procacci, who was attempting at that time to break into production and due to the low profile and attempted studio coverup at columbia was not fully aware of the film’s history. there are conflicting accounts of how much influence j’s editing has on the film, with some people considering him basically the marcia lucas of goncharov, and others believing him to be an opportunist taking advantage of a mostly-finished piece of art for his own gain.
obviously the studio intervened before the film’s actual release, but much of the promotional material including the poster, the shoes, etc. came from this time. it seems that columbia came to some kind of agreement with j vis a vis distribution and profits, probably in the hopes of cashing in on scorsese’s by then ascended name, which was of course splashed across the top of every goncharov poster you can find. however, the release was called off a second time once scorsese himself got wind of it.
and that seemed to be the end of it. the completed goncharov went into the columbia vault, with only a handful of misremembered bootlegs and chopped-up local tv airings even attesting to the fact that it ever existed, until a leaked copy appeared with no warning on archive.org. this seems to have been a prelude from a disgruntled netflix employee to the distribution of the film through the service (although, of course, in inferior aspect ratio, ‘remastered’ and with several scenes edited). you can still find copies of the original film on archive if you want to experience it as... well, it’s hard to say what the ‘intended’ goncharov experience is with such a complicated history behind it, but as close to intended as we can get. i don’t know if scorsese has softened on j’s version of the movie after all this time, or if he’s just let his grudge over it go. all i know for sure is that goncharov really has earned the title of the greatest mafia movie never made

People who can see it, how do you know? Can you try to explain it to me? // I'm going to try to explain it with the time stamps ok? But it also helps to pay attention to Wille and Simon's hair. Simon's hair is longer and Wille's hair is shorter in the original filmed scenes.
The first reshot scene is of Simon's reaction at August in S2E6 at 36:09. They tried to do what they could with Omar's curls but they were shorter lol (Also, when they show the choir singing and they focus on Simon, the girl on his left is a brunette. In the reshot scene, is a blonde girl)
At 36:52 there's another reshot scene of another Simon's reaction and at 36:54, the first scene where you can notice it's a green screen. The focus of the scene is Wille's back but you can notice the unnatural image of the background. Even the lighting it's wrong.
From then onwards, all Simon's close up reactions scenes are from the reshoot. Again, notice the hair! And the green screen it's really prominent in its notoriety 40:02 when Wille turns to look at Simon. It's the same wide scene they used previously and notice Wille's hair! It's a different colour and length. Them smiling at each other was a reshot scene! (apparently the original intended ending had Wille going towards Simon, pulling him up the stairs at the back and then had them talking and then waving at the people in the audience? With the audience cheering them on. So you see why that level of sudden acceptance doesn't make sense with a third season on the plans)
And then, the very last scene, with Wille breaking the 4th wall you can see the use of a green screen again. Once again notice the different hair length and colour and the proportions of the choir behind him are off. Visual effects aren't one of YR's strongest points! (Along with continuity editing)
Personally it doesn't bother me but it is obvious even for the untrained eye.
(continuity errors are abundant in S2 and they bother me a lot more)
The difference in wilmon's hairs are what made me agree with the people who say the S3 scenes we got today are actually S2 shots. Both their hairstyles are different in the actual S3 material we've seen. And YR isn't known for their efforts in flawless continuity editing.

if you don’t mind sharing, why dark shadows, specifically? what got you into it?
Good question! I had a vague pop cultural awareness of Dark Shadows as a thing (probably akin to "the gothic horror vampire soap opera?") for a while, but both the episode count (1245 episodes!) and the shaky availability put me off watching it years ago.
If I had to point to the things that made me sit down and watch the show starting last fall, apart from being a lunatic, and all episodes being available on Tubi and Internet Archive, I'd say two things:
First, @widowshill made an edit on her old blog, @terrorpenned - intercutting scenes from DS and passages from two of Rediker and Linebaugh's The Many Headed Hydra and Rediker's Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea which did highlight a lot of the things I find fascinating about the pre-vampire era of the show (I mean - Barnabas rising from the tomb in episode 209, and, much like toothpaste and the tube, unable to be returned) - the maritime economy, the socio-economic decline of the Collins family, the circumstances of their fortune and their moral decay, their continuing willingness to throw everyone but themselves under the bus to save themselves - and which does sort-of continue into the post-vampire era. Not as much as I'd like, but I'm not the showrunner.
Second, there were the more notable gaffs that made it onto the show (here's my favorite. please join me in appreciating The Arts.) because the show was made on a budget of $3 and a ham sandwich and there was no money for reshoots or editing.
As to why I'm still watching it (572/1245) now - I love vengeful ghosts, and I love the gothic horror sensibilities, particularly of the pre-vampire era and the weight the show gives the sins of the past: fitting for a soap opera, almost nothing and no one stays dead, goodness is almost never rewarded, and nothing is ever at peace.
I think that puts me in the minority of people who know and love the show, so, a word in favor of its other charms: Dark Shadows is both fundamentally unserious and deadly, deadly earnest: a vampire, a mad scientist, and the vampire's former thrall may be thrust into being the ersatz parents of a frankenstein's monster whose actual creator has been murdered by a vengeful witch (said vampire's dead-but-not-really) ex wife - they may be literally doing this under the visible shadows of boom mics and notably glancing at the teleprompters! - but this is, somehow, also about the vampire's rocky relationship with his own long-dead parents, and also about nature versus nurture in human life, and how cruelty reproduces itself through generations. Genial academic types will summon unhinged puritan witch hunters from the dead, and they'll bitch about dye jobs. Sets will catch fire, everyone will forget their lines at least once, stagehands will be visible, vampire bats will be clearly adorable puppets. You'll be forced to stare into the dark night of the human soul. You'll be forced to pretend a human skull in a wig is the most frightening sight known to man. The lore's inconsistent, the characters get recast, I think they forgot the show was set in Maine. I love it. I can't say enough about it. It's one of the greatest artistic achievements of the 20th century. 90% of what I love about it is purely conjecture or subtext. Please don't watch it before setting your affairs in order.
