The Top 4 Hair Styles Recommended by Professionals
Are you looking for a fresh new look for your hair? Well, you're in luck! We've gathered the top four hair styles recommended by professionals that are sure to make you look fabulous. Whether you have long locks or short strands, there's something here for everyone.
1. The Classic Bob or small tribal braids:
This timeless hairstyle never goes out of fashion. A bob is a short haircut where the hair is typically cut straight around the head at about jaw-level. It's sleek, chic, and perfect for those who want a low-maintenance yet stylish look. You can opt for a blunt bob or small tribal braids for a more edgy vibe or go for a layered bob for added volume and movement. Either way, this hairstyle is versatile and flattering for all face shapes.
2. The Beachy Waves:
If you're craving a laid-back, effortless vibe, then beachy waves are the way to go. This hairstyle mimics the tousled, wind-swept look you get after a day at the beach. To achieve this style, you can use a curling iron or a flat iron to create loose, relaxed waves. Alternatively, you can braid your hair overnight for natural-looking waves in the morning. Beachy waves are perfect for adding texture and dimension to your hair, giving you that effortlessly cool look.
3. The Pixie Cut:
Ready to make a bold statement? The pixie cut is a short hairstyle that's both daring and stylish. This cut features short hair on the sides and back of the head with slightly longer hair on top. It's a bold choice that exudes confidence and personality. Pixie cuts come in various lengths and styles, so you can customize it to suit your preferences. Plus, with less hair to manage, styling becomes a breeze. Whether you're a busy professional or a fashion-forward trendsetter, the pixie cut is sure to turn heads wherever you go.
4. The High Ponytail:
Want to add a touch of glamour to your everyday look? Look no further than the high ponytail. This sleek and sophisticated hairstyle is perfect for both casual outings and formal events. Simply gather your hair at the crown of your head and secure it with a hair tie to create a high ponytail. You can leave it sleek and polished for a classic look or add some volume and texture for a more modern twist. The high ponytail from black hair salons in Mckinney is versatile enough to complement any outfit and is guaranteed to elevate your style game.
In conclusion, these top four hair styles recommended by professionals offer something for everyone, whether you prefer a timeless classic or a bold statement. Experiment with different styles and find the one that makes you feel confident and fabulous

This chapters Warnings: Mentions of violence sort of, Mild sexually suggestive language.
A/n: I have a big work week ahead of me so I may not be able to get much done in terms of writing and especially in terms of art, but I am excited to write out more chapters. In this chapter there is pretty much just fluff so I wasn't sure of what to write for warnings (I'm so bad at knowing what should be a warning I'm so sorry). Enjoy this chapter and the art, leave a like or a comment, Re-blogs greatly appreciated!

Chapter 4
A month has passed since you moved to Fuller, Texas into a property left to you by a distant relative. You visited the Hewitt family at least two or three times a week and made close friends with Luda Mae; every now and then you would see Tommy, and Luda Mae would try to get him to talk to you but he would just freeze and avoid contact. Eventually he would be able to stay in the same area when you were there but never in the same room, he would just quietly watch from the doorway of the next room or outside. His avoidant and distant behavior did not help your budding feelings for him nor your desire to speak to him.
The other day, you were invited to dinner by Luda Mae and you offer to cook for them so you can bond over some good food. You spent most of the day repairing small bits of damage in the house, and making sure the pipes in the home had proper fittings. You took your time cooking large decadent dishes to impress the Hewitt's, mashed potatoes, fried asparagus, a hefty salad, and some finely glazed roast chicken with grilled corn. This food was the kind to make family out of friends and you were so excited to share it; the chocolate cake you baked the night before was ready to be frosted with your own recipe for vanilla icing.
Once the food was packed away in some bags, you got changed into a black summer dress that had a flower pattern in red, you put on a pair of red flats, some makeup, and a spritz of expensive perfume. The walk to the Hewitt house lasts only about ten minutes but the bags of food started to weigh you down and make you wish you had taken the car. When you reach the driveway, you have to set the bags down and take a rest. As you catch your breath and shake out your arms, you hear heavy foot steps coming towards you, when you look up you see Tommy, he looked different, he looked… good.
Tumblr media
Despite still wearing the dark leather half-mask, you were actually able to see a lot of his face due to his hair being oiled back slick. His heaving chest was pressing against his black T-shirt that hugged his torso and really showed just how thick with muscle he was. He had new looking jean pants that clung to his thighs and a belt buckle that shone in the evening sky. His shoes were especially interesting, he had on a freshly shined pair of black snake skin cowboy boots tucked under his jean cuffs. You could not believe how well this massive recluse cleans up, and while he was still extremely intimidating, his fresh appearance was so overwhelming that you couldn’t speak.
He walks right up to you but doesn’t look you in the eye, he just takes your bags and stands behind you waiting for you to start walking to the door. His height was unlike anything you have ever seen, your head reached the base of his pecs. You were blushing so much, you could feel your cheeks flush with heat, you say to him,
“T-thank you”
Tumblr media
He holds the heavy bags like they were nothing, his hands are huge and rough, his exposed arms were thick with muscle but riddled with scars that made you curious. He doesn’t say a word as you both walk up to the front door where he then opens it for you and waits for you to enter. Luda is already at the entrance wearing a pretty tea length dress in pastel blue, with yellow birds, her hair is in a pinned up-do, she greets you,
“Evenin’! I see Thomas helped you with your things, what a good boy he is”
You smile “Yeah, I’m glad he came to help honestly. I didn’t realize how tough it was going to be walking here with those bags being so heavy, I should have driven down haha”
Luda Mae takes your hand and leads you inside saying “Well come on in! Let’s get this stuff to the table so we can all eat, I’m sure you’re hungry”
You get to the table which is set nicely, the dishes seem to all be bone china with flowery designs along the outer edges, the large table is rustic and humble, but cozy. Luda Mae calls everyone to the table and tells you to sit at the end of the table, Charlie who is wearing a worn dress shirt that is too big for him and a red bowtie, attempts to sit next to you but Luda Mae snaps at him,
“NOT THERE CHARLIE, THAT’S TOMMYS SEAT!”
Charlie sighs and gets up; he looks at you,
“Oh, I see how it is” he gives you a wink.
Tommy comes in last and stands in the doorway, Luda Mae calls over to him,
“Come Thomas, you take your seat right next to Y/N”
He glances at you from under his brow and goes and sits in the chair next you making sure he is not touching you. He is such a big man that he is still towering over you even while sitting. Luda Mae takes her seat and says,
“Now then, let’s all say grace. Charlie, if you’ll do the honors”
Charlie rolls his eyes and starts “Dear lord, bless this here food, even though it ain’t like what were used to, bless it anyway”
Luda Mae scoffs adding “And bless Y/N for makin’ the effort to make us a lovely dinner tonight. Were eternally grateful for you bringin’ us Tilly, who bought them cows and chickens for us so we may absolve our sinful ways, amen”
You were feeling a bit confused at what she meant by ‘sinful ways’ but they all said amen so you just ignored it. The dinner started and everyone began to dig in to the dishes you prepared. Tommy waited until you took some food for yourself and then he started grabbing some scoops of the food to load onto his plate, Luda Mae sees this and says,
“Thomas is a big boy; he needs a lot of food to keep himself strong. I apologize if he seems greedy” she gave a serious look at Tommy who slowly put the mashed potato spoon down.
You feel a tinge of sadness at Luda Mae scolding Tommy, you reply,
“Oh no please, let’s eat as much as we can tonight so I don’t have to bring so much home. I made more than enough; I think”
Tommy glances at you, Luda Mae says “Well alright then Tommy, go ahead then, just make sure everyone else gets some”
Charlie laughs “Tommy boy eats more than the damn hogs do, I swear there’s nothin’ left when he’s near food, gotta eat quick!”
Luda Mae whacks Charlie’s shoulder for him to shut up but he just laughs, you giggle at the playful nature of this family and you feel comfortable around them, you feel a closeness to people that you hadn’t felt since the last time you saw your best friend. You can’t help but make quick glances at Tommy to be able to drink in his appearance for your memory to retrieve when you need it. You felt the nerves in your stomach tightening causing a slight cramp, you had a massive crush on Tommy and it was time to admit it to yourself. Tommy ate his food at a decent pace, each bite was small enough to fit through the slit in his mask; you still didn’t understand why he wore it but you were too afraid to ask in case it was something he was sensitive about.
Luda Mae see’s you watching Tommy and she smiles,
“We all made sure to look nice for you tonight, it’s a special occasion to have a guest cooking us dinner, right Charlie?”
He just nods and scarfs down the food on his plate, Luda Mae gives him a stern look but he doesn’t react, she continues,
“Thomas doesn’t have many clothes that fit him given that he’s such a big strong boy, but we were able to find some nice clothes in storage. What do you think Y/N? Does he look handsome?”
Tommy widens his eyes and looks over quickly at Luda Mae, trying to avoid eye contact with you.
“I think he looks amazing” you blurted out without even thinking, you felt embarrassed for not saying something less abrupt, -Oh god they probably think I’m desperate or something, why didn’t I just say he looks nice!?- Luda Mae smiled even bigger and Tommy quickly looked back at you in shock that anyone other than his mother would say something positive about him, especially about how he looked. Luda Mae looks at you and gives a cheeky smirk saying,
“I know Thomas thinks you look very beautiful tonight, don’t you Thomas?”
Tommy looked at Luda Mae and then quickly looked back at you, he was so flustered and you noticed the top of his cheeks that weren’t hidden by the mask began to flush with a rosy pink. Luda Mae continued,
“Well Thomas? Don’t be rude to our guest, you tell her she looks nice!”
You felt bad for Tommy who was put on the spot by Luda Mae’s question, you wished so badly to hear the answer but Tommy just looked down at his plate with wide eyes and blushing cheeks. You smiled at the sight of such a large grown man reacting like an embarrassed teen, you could almost hear the squeal of protest ‘Mom! You’re embarrassing me!’. You giggled to yourself, this was the most fun you had had with people in ages, you were so lonely back in Rivers Manitoba that even the rare relationship you got into would fizzle out so quickly from them being abusive or losing interest. You felt safe with the Hewitts, even if the things Dover said to you were true about them, you didn’t care, you wanted to be part of a family, this family.
Eventually dinner finished and the cake was brought out by Luda Mae, she cut some large slices for everyone and when she took the first bite her eyes widened and she said,
“My, you’re an incredible cook Y/N. This is the best darn thing I have ever eaten since my mama’s banana cream pie”
Charlie took a bite and slammed the table, which startled you and made Tommy give him an angry look, he said,
“WHEW GIRLIE, THIS IS SINFUL!”
Tommy looked at his slice and took a small piece on his fork and bit into it, his eyes closed and he let out a deep breath through his nose as he leaned his head back allowing you to see just how thick his neck was. There was some stubble peeking through from under his mask and it made your heart flutter, this was a fully-grown, red-blooded man, and you had a flash of an intrusive thought fly through your mind of him leaning his head back from a different kind of pleasure; you shook your head and looked away, trying to suppress a smirk that was trying to creep its way onto your face. Luda Mae looks over at you and asks,
“Are you alright dear?”
You snap back into reality and reply “Yes, sorry I just got… dizzy, must be from all the good food”
Luda Mae is looking a bit concerned,
“Let me get you some more water sweetheart, maybe you are just hot”
You feel a sense of embarrassment at the passing thought you had, it was really unlike you to be so turned on by a man, but Tommy was no ordinary man and he was bringing out feelings in you that you never knew you had. Luda Mae comes back with some ice water and gently places a hand on your shoulder, and pours some water in the glass in front of you. This woman was so motherly to you, the month that went by just reinforced these feelings as every time you met up with her, she was always concerned with how you were doing and trying to get you to rest or talk about deep feelings, she was a large comfort to you.
The night finally concluded after so much laughter and conversation between you, Luda Mae, and Charlie. Tommy had gotten up after cake and left the table before the night was over which made you feel a bit anxious that he was uncomfortable but you had fun despite the anxiety. When you got your things and placed them back in the bags, you said goodnight to Charlie as Luda Mae walked you out saying,
“Don’t let Dover bug you anymore ok hun? He used to make Tilly so upset but eventually he left her alone once she got close with us, I reckon he will do the same with you once he realizes who you’re friendly with. If you feel scared walking back, have Thomas, take you, he is in the barn there”
You thank her and say goodbye, maybe getting Tommy to walk you back would be a good idea so Dover would stop popping out of bushes to tell you how stupid he thinks you are and how badly he wants you to leave. You make your way down to the barn and see Tommy sitting on a bale of hay staring out the open barn doors, the bright shine of the moon casting a silver light on him. You walk up to him and say,
“Hey, Thomas, would you please walk me back to my house? I don’t want to deal with Dover harassing me.”
You see him look over at you and he nods slowly, getting up and moving over to face you, his hand held out to signal you to give him your bags so he could carry them for you. He waited to let you walk in front of him but you didn’t move, you spoke,
“Can…I walk next to you?”
Tommy looked surprised but he nodded and followed next to you out of the barn, you both made your way to the road, he was making sure to keep your pace so he didn’t get ahead of you. The sky had thick dark clouds rolling through it but the moon held its bright glare, coating you both with a cold light, you looked up at Tommy who was remaining silent as he walked next to you, his brows were relaxed and his eyes fixed firmly on the road ahead of him. You felt so safe with him, he was like a large guard dog, keeping watch of your surroundings and staying close to you, ensuring that he keeps his pace in line with yours.
You smile, the fact that you were alone with him was exciting, you wish you were able to say something but you couldn’t find the words. Just as you were giving thought to something to say, he looks down at you and catches you smiling at him. He looks at you confused, why would anyone smile at the likes of him? His whole life he was ridiculed and made fun of for his appearance, a girl never gave him even a glance and the ones he liked screamed when he came near them. You were different, you were beautiful and kind, and you smiled at him, no screaming or running away, he felt good being around you, he felt safe with you, but this was a different kind of safe to the one you felt, this was trust.
You both got to your driveway and he walked you up to the door, setting your bags down, you turned to him and said,
“I really appreciate you walking me to my home Thomas, you’re a really nice man”
Tommy’s eyes met yours and he nodded, you went to pick up your bags but stopped when you saw him pointing at you,
“Yes?”
He continues to point at you, you try to look around if there’s a stain or bug but he just goes and reaches for the dress fabric on your shoulder and points at that, you smile and reply,
“Oh, my dress! You never told me if you liked it”
He nods and gives a thumbs up, you laugh and thank him. You grab your bag and make your way inside, turning to give him one last look and say,
“Goodnight Thomas, I hope we get to spend more time together soon”
Tumblr media
You gently shut the door and Tommy turns to leave, his cheeks are warm and his eyes wide; You, a beautiful woman, want to spend time with a monster like him? The things he has done in the past for his family were evil, his past was stained forever with the blood of the many victims taken by his hands. He tried to push down his budding feelings because he knew deep down that an innocent angel like you would never accept his sins. The walk back to his home was full of mixed emotions, he was scared to get closer to you in case you find out about his past and react like the girls from his past would, screaming at him in horror and fear. He couldn’t help but have hope though, you were after all, different.

In Memoriam: Cormac McCarthy (1933-2023)
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other.
The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, “each the other’s world entire,” are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation.
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy
All the Pretty Horses tells of young John Grady Cole, the last of a long line of Texas ranchers. Across the border Mexico beckons—beautiful and desolate, rugged and cruelly civilized. With two companions, he sets off on an idyllic, sometimes comic adventure, to a place where dreams are paid for in blood.
This is the first volume in “The Border” trilogy.
The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy
1980, Pass Christian, Mississippi: It is three in the morning when Bobby Western zips the jacket of his wetsuit and plunges from the boat deck into darkness. His divelight illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the crash site are the pilot’s flightbag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. But how? A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit – by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.
Traversing the American South, from the garrulous bar rooms of New Orleans to an abandoned oil rig off the Florida coast, The Passenger is a breathtaking novel of morality and science, the legacy of sin, and the madness that is human consciousness.
This is the first volume in “The Passenger” series.
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
One day, Llewellyn Moss finds a pickup truck surrounded by a bodyguard of dead men. A load of heroin and two million dollars in cash are still in the back. When Moss takes the money, he sets off a chain reaction of catastrophic violence that not even the law–in the person of aging, disillusioned Sheriff Bell–can contain.
As Moss tries to evade his pursuers–in particular a mysterious mastermind who flips coins for human lives–McCarthy simultaneously strips down the American crime novel and broadens its concerns to encompass themes as ancient as the Bible and as bloodily contemporary as this morning’s headlines.

What does your OC carry?
Tagged by @bokatan <3 Thank you!!
I chose to do all three of my favs. I should include Levi - but honestly, that boy doesn't travel if he can help it. Which means he has a closet. A whole closet. hah
Mercy
Clothing, accessories, etc: Mercy wears a mix of gear, recently from the Railroad thanks to Tinker Tom. Tinker Tom had some specialty stuff made for her since she’s so little (well, not in relation to Frankie and Mercy but she’s still 5’2”) from ballistic weave. It’s usually leggings and tunic or pants and top with a beanie (also ballistic weave) with boots. She also has her gun harness, backpack, belt, pouches, camping supplies...ya know...the usual.
Weapons: One sniper rifle with long-range scope, one laser pistol (BOS issued but stripped down and adjusted for her hands...given to her by Danse but she told him not to), and one combat knife with minor tooth marks from a deathclaw.
Miscellaneous supplies: soap, towel, acorn oil for hair, comb and brush, change of clothes, rope, medical supplies, toothpaste, and pipboy. (Note – no food, she has Deacon or Mac carry that)
Random odds and ends: crackers, dried fruit, a nail file found under some rubble, a small sewing kit, a random book, one comic, some kind of chem given to her by Hancock in the case of needing to take Deacon someplace tall, three rocks, a vial of something given to her by Tinker Tom in case of synths, a Gen 1 eye, a Gen 2 finger – used to poke Nick, pencil, pad of paper.
Frankie
Clothing, accessories, etc: Well...she usually travels with the band. So it’s a couple chests of dresses, stockings, heels, fancy panties, pasties with tassels, pasties without tassels, crotch shields in case she takes off the thongs during a burlesque show, rumba panties with matching bras, petticoats for the dresses, feathers for her hair, hair oil, hair gel, shampoo, conditioner, make up, perfume, lotion, fine soaps, a few necklaces, two sets of boxer shorts for sleeping, two extra large shirts stolen from her brother for sleeping, three indecent nightgowns (sure...nightgown...sure...). When traveling with Beau – whatever she can shove in one saddlebag...which makes her sad.
Weapons: A very large stick – gotten from a cactus in Texas.
Miscellaneous supplies: What is this...Miscellaneous Supplies...it’s all necessary supplies, Beau. All of it. Everybody needs more than 2 pairs of holey boxers, Beau. For the love of God, get new underwear.
Random odds and ends: See Miscellaneous Supplies also two bobble head dolls, one shell from California, an empty tequila bottle – just in case
Sparrow
Clothing, accessories, etc: Before Canary: One pair of pants held up by a rope and cut short enough for her, a thin old pair of panties, too-big shirt also wrapped with a rope, scarf and hat, leggings cut short and held up by a rope, old dress, two socks only slightly tattered, old sneakers. Old backpack. After Canary: one Sparrow-sized Lancer leather jacket with the BOS patches ripped off and replaced with random patches found plus one Minuteman Patch, one Sparrow-sized Lancer flight suit denuded of BOS patches and now sporting random ones, a dark gray fitted pants and shirt topped with leather (sized for her), gas mask with goggles, tactical beanie. Eventually a Sparrow-sized set of courser gear with long coat, mask with blue tactical lighting. Tactical belt. Backpack.
Weapons: two blackened knives – sharp and designed for slicing and stabbing. Sparrow thinks guns are icky.
Miscellaneous supplies: Pocket snacks (dried meat, dried fruit, nuts – usually packed by her papa), a second set of knives, rope, pouch of caps, little compass, stealth boys
Random odds and ends: chalk, bits of bark, a few random rocks, a pouch of dried herbs, tea, every BOS patch pulled from her armor, a piece of paper with the words “chirp chirp,” three leaves (they blew into her bag), her old backpack shoved into her new backpack

Note
1, 15, 29, 50, and 89
1. What have you eaten today?
It's half past five in the afternoon, I've had breakfast and lunch so far. Breakfast was a bagel, one half with butter and cherry jam, one with chocolate spread. (And medication, but that isn't exactly food)
Lunch was a Brezel with butter and pieces of cheese (six different kinds, but don't ask which, I can only tell you one of them was a brie XD) and some iceberg lettuce with vinaigrette (rice wine vinegar, sunflower oil, mustard, honey and too much herb-salt).
I think I actually didn't snack anything between meals, which is rare, but I made East Friesian tea which is drunk with rock sugar and milk (well, cream traditionally, but I take milk), so I guess my desire/need for calories was satisfied that way.
15. Which do you prefer:a museum, a night club, the forest or a library?
Not the night club for sure.
Otherwise it depends on my mood and physical state (and what kind of museum).
On a bad pain day, definitely the library.
The museum is tempting if it's for something I'm interested in (shiny stones, science, art I like, historical fashion..) and if it has seats at regular intervals bc ugh are many museums unaccessible in that respect!
Forest is often lovely, but there's usually bugs and such, and no seats.. can you tell I struggle with fatigue and pain but can still walk XD
15. What is your style?
Mostly black jeans and t-shirts with prints. Very long hair up in a bun. Is that what this is asking? I'm not really going for a special aesthetic, I wanna be comfy and approachable to nice people but off-putting to bigots XD
29. What is the best thing that has happened to you this week?
So since I put the pillow in the last one, another highlight was ordering a German Russian course book, bc I'm losing my mind over Duolingo not teaching grammar. I know it makes some amount of sense and a lot of ppl starting from English don't know the concepts, but it's driving me nuts. From what I can tell, Russian shares a lot of grammatical concepts with German and I'm hoping the book will give me some aha moments
50. Favorite fruits?
Yaaaaas fruits! Raspberries are called 'cat berries' in our household bc I love them. I also love apples (braeburn or story), mandarines (though I have.. conditions they need to meet), cherries, peaches, strawberries (but only fresh and ripe), mangoes, granadillas, figs, apricots, litchis, .. I'm sure I'm forgetting some XD
89. If money wasn’t an issue, what top 10 places would you travel to? (You get to stay at each place for a week)
Oh dear, money isn't the biggest hurdle, accessibility/my energy levels is, and a few other things play into it as well, but let's see
1. Visit @prettypangolins again. I love them and want to spend time with them
2. Glasgow. Loved it there, want to see what changed, want to visit the Yarn Cake and Purrple Cat Café again
3. Visit @catblog-weatherwax and finally meet them for real, and their family, including cats
And then it gets interesting bc we get to the territory of visiting ppl I'd like to meet who I don't know if they'd want me to visit, and places I'd kinda like to see but don't know if they'd be accessible/safe enough for me, but let's assume both, then I'd go to
4. LA
5. Texas (probably two cities, I'd have to ask XD)
6. Moscow
7. New Zealand
8. Japan (make that at least Tokyo and Kyoto, maybe Osaka)
With the brackets we're at 10-11 then, right? Else I'd add Brussels, I think, and somewhere to see aurora borealis
Thank you for the ask, that was fun!!

99 + 17 :-)

10.48. Listening to Beyonce Texas Hold ‘em. Upstairs in my room, about to go to bed.
I have been listening to this Beyonce song on repeat over and over and ovveerrrrr. I hope Beyonce breaks country records. Bloop. As she should. Today was such an adventurous Gøod day. I got up pretty early even though I barely slept last night. I had some kenyan sausages (iykyk) and tea. Then I was chillin’ reading my book, chatting with SweSwe, her sister Karimi and another elder Moka wa Mwiti. Kendi was sent to buy free range chickens, so I decided to tag along. This is where things got spicey because fun fact: I am scared of chickens. Like they just look/act alien to me and I don’t ever want to be near them. I eat them tings though, I just wonder why they didn’t go extinct. Also who saw such a funny looking creature and said… I bet this will be yumm. Same with Iguanas. I don’t fear those but like who decided that this ugly ass weird ass thing would be yumm. I got questions for these folx. Anyway, we went to buy chickens. We walked to Karen in like 30 degrees. Took a matatu to Ngong market, found the chicken vendor at the back and then Kendi proceeded to chat with the seller while I mostly watched this transaction. We had to wait for a bit so we were given a seat, not too far from the chicken coops/cages. Y’all…tell me why?!?!? Why?!? This chicken decided to splash me with shit. I almost passed out with disgust. I was so close to screaming. And we didn’t have tissue or kleenex so I had to just wipe with this old cloth he had which basically just smeared shit on me. BLACK JESUS… what is life? Anyway, it was worthy of a Gøod laugh for everyone involved. We left the chicken vendor and headed to wash my hair, I washed my hair for 2$ then we went to the grocery store for margarine, salt, bread. So the market is all non packaged things, the grocery store is for packaged things. Then we went to get our 10 chickens and lugged them back to the matatu. Honestly, Kendi carried it which is shocking bc she is quite tiny. I carried the other stuff. We got to Karen, took a motorbike and headed back to the house. First thing I did was shower dog. Like I was still so grossed out by the chicken poop. We also had some chips with kachumbari while at Ngong Market. More street food because, hello Nairobi. I had a smokie yesterday with kachumbari. Can you see a kachumbari trend already starting? Ok. Gøod. After I showered, we oiled my hair and I read a book Sobia gifted me for a bit. SweSwe asked me if I plan to read all day and night? LMAO, she used to ask me this same question as a pre-teen. Books and I go together real bad especially now that I have time. I wanna finish the last  season of Atlanta soon though then back to books. I had a conversation today on homophobia. Kenya is a hyper-christian nation so homophobia is insane. Anyway, I use the Bible to help hyper-christians with their homophobia. Judgement is mine said the Lord. Folx usually get it and from there I go on to Love and let Love. It was interesting to see folx get it and fall back. They were asking me about gay people in Canada. Once I saw they got it, I brought up colonization and that homosexuality is natural because it is everywhere, white people just lied to us, told us its a sin and now they judge us for homphobia. They did get it. I am learning that listening, tone, kindness, truth, honesty, time/patience really helps with clarity. Life is Gøod. Ase.

In Limestone County sits sacred ground devoted to Confederates
Tumblr media
Shortly after the Civil War, veterans of the North and South alike wished to celebrate the kinship and memory of their war experiences and sacrifices.
Small groups of Limestone County Confederate veterans met informally to socialize and reminisce.
By 1888 they had begun to meet annually along Jacks Creek near where it intersects the Navasota River, known then as the “Pen Camp Meeting Grounds.”
The next year they organized the Joseph E. Johnston Camp of the United Confederate Veterans, named in honor of the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of Tennessee.
This chapter became the 94th affiliate of the rapidly expanding UCV.
Starting in 1892, the veterans and their families started purchasing lots at $5 each to help pay for the first 20 acres of land purchased for a sum of $200 from the Mexia family.
Over the years more land was purchased, and today the site consists of 76 acres.
In 1893, a large dance pavilion was built and became the social center of the reunion grounds. Today picnic tables are under the pavilion, and it may be rented for family reunions and other gatherings.
In the early days as many as 7,000 people attended the annual reunions in late July or early August during the week of the full moon. They came by horse, buggy and special trains from Dallas and Houston.
On display at the reunion grounds is a captured Union Cannon that was used during the Civil War. “Old Valverde,” one of the federal cannons captured by Confederate forces in the battle at Mansfield, La., saw action for the Confederate troops in the Louisiana campaigns with the Valverde Battery.
Tumblr media
The terms of surrender signed on May 26, 1865, stated that all confederate artillery was to be turned over to the U.S. government.
Rather than surrender them to Union troops, Captain T.D. Nettles buried the two cannons underneath a buggy house in nearby Fairfield.
Tumblr media
Here they remained during Reconstruction and were dug up when Grover Cleveland was elected president in 1885.
One of these cannons is on display at the reunion grounds and the other is on the courthouse grounds at Fairfield.
Tumblr media
During the days of the reunion the gray-haired veterans proudly fired Old Valverde each day at dawn and again at dusk. Some say this firing could be heard in the next county.
The reunions included parades, brass-band concerts, patriotic speakers, games and traditional southern food.
The attendees would dance the nights away on the wooden floor of the pavilion, which is now recognized by the National Register of Historic Places for its unusual architecture.
Tumblr media
Wildcatter Albert E. Humphreys struck oil in Limestone County in November 1920.
The county population exploded, and Mexia became a boomtown at the center of one of the largest oil fields in the country.
Humphreys contracted with the Joseph E. Johnston Camp for water and built a pump house on Jacks Creek to supply his wells.
There are still some large rock chimneys here, remnants of the housing for the oil field workers of the 1920s.
Humphreys, affectionately known as “The Colonel,” was a devotee of Confederate history and offered to improve the reunion grounds.
He built the Pure Oil Company clubhouse and bathhouse on Jacks Creek.
Miss Mamie Kennedy was one of the last officers of Camp 94 and hosted lavish parties for The Colonel during the oil boom days.
She also designed and landscaped gardens leading to the “Colonel’s Springs,” which became known as the “Flirtation Walk.”
After the end of World War I, time was taking its toll on the aging veterans.
The reunions continued but on a smaller scale. By 1946, the charter of Camp 94 expired and the grounds fell into disuse.
Tumblr media
The Joseph E. Johnston Camp No. 94, C.S.A., was permanently chartered as a nonprofit corporation in 1965, and in September 1983, the corporation donated the Confederate Reunion Grounds to the state of Texas.
They continue to serve as a gathering place today.
Today as you drive into the reunion grounds there is an archway off to the right with the sign “Miss Mamie Kennedy’s 1914 Confederate Flirtation Walk.” The trail winds through the woods to a swinging walk bridge across the creek.
A little farther around a curve is another trail leading to the “Colonel’s Springs.”
On the archway over the trail is the following inscription: “The Colonel’s Springs: To Colonel A. E. Humphreys, discoverer and developer of the great Mexia oil fields, beautifier of these grounds, maintaining them in honor of the Confederate dead and for the pleasure of the living veterans, their families and friends.
This tablet is erected and this spring lovingly dedicated by the city of Mexia as a lasting expression of their admiration of this great and Godly man and his splendid achievement. ‘I will give to him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely,’ Rev. 21:6.”
Tumblr media
This is a good place to visit if you wish to get close to nature and observe a little history. Take a picnic lunch, relax and make a day of it. There are several good picnic sites.
The reunion grounds are no longer a part of the state park system.
The 80th Texas Legislature transferred operational control of this site from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission.
A new office building has been constructed just inside the entrance.
Cost of admission is $4 for adults, $3 for students ages 6-18 and tour groups and free for children ages 5 and under. However, today is a Texas Historic Sites free day at 19 of the Texas Historical Commission’s properties.

SOUTHERN SYMPATHIES
Southern landowners settling in the Navasota River valley brought the culture of cotton and slavery to Limestone County. In 1861, they overwhelmingly voted for secession. Although no Civil War battles were ever fought in Central Texas, three out of every four free men in Limestone County served in the Confederate army. After the war ended in 1865, the emancipation of African American slaves, the collapse of the old plantation farming system, and the imposition of martial law kept the county in turmoil for years.
THE REUNION MOVEMENT
In the 1880s, Northern and Southern veterans alike wished to gather for fellowship and shared memories of their war experiences and sacrifices. Reunions captured the emotions and imaginations of many Southerners. Earlier small groups of Limestone County Confederate veterans met informally to socialize and reminisce. In 1888, they began meeting annually in this spot along Jack’s Creek.
The next year they organized the Joseph E. Johnston Camp of the United Confederate Veterans (UCV), named for the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of Tennessee.
The chapter became the 94th affiliate of the rapidly expanding UCV.
As many as 7,000 people attended the annual reunions held in late July or early August under a full moon.
They arrived by horse, buggy, and special trains from Dallas and Houston.
The Camp financed the purchase of the reunion grounds by selling camping lots to the veterans and their families.
Some families built summer cottages or camped in tents or brush arbors, planting crepe myrtle and irises that still bloom each spring.
Each day at dawn and dusk the veterans proudly fired “Old Val Verde,” one of several Federal cannons captured by Confederates in the battle at Mansfield, Louisiana.
Tumblr media
Two of these guns saw action for the Confederates in the Louisiana campaigns with the Val Verde Battery.
At the end of the war, Captain T.D. Nettles buried the two cannons under a buggy house in nearby Fairfield rather than surrender them to Union troops.
Today “Old Val Verde” is on display beneath the flagpoles at the center of the historic site near the intersection of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson avenues.
During the reunions, veterans eulogized those soldiers who, in the words of General Stonewall Jackson, had “cross[ed] over the river and [now] rest under the trees.”
The gatherings also included parades, brass band concerts, patriotic speakers, games, and traditional Southern foods. Attendees danced the nights away on the wooden floor of the pavilion, now recognized by the National Register of Historic Places for its unusual architecture.
By the end of World War I, time had taken a noticeable toll on the aging veterans.
The gatherings continued but on a smaller scale.

Brittney Griner Relieved To Be Home From Imprisonment in Russia
Since February 17, 32-year-old WNBA star, Brittney Griner, stayed detained in Russia's prison found guilty in relation to drug charges. In Russia, cannabis is illegal, and Griner was found with a cannabis oil vape cartridge and is sentenced to 9 years. In October she had an appeal, but it was denied. For months, U.S. Officials have been in constant contact with Russia with hopes of any negotiation, but they would not comply. That is until Thursday Government officials and sources interviewed Griner to learn about her time in Russia. https://youtu.be/jrdtP9P_b28   Negotiation Putting an offer on the table, the United States, bargains with Russia for WNBA star and former marine Paul Whelan, who's been in Russian custody due to espionage charges for four years. The U.S. offers convicted arms merchant Viktor Bout, serving 12 years into a 25-year sentence.   "We have been raising Paul Whelan's case with the Russians since the earliest days of this administration," one senior administration official said during a background briefing.   On Thursday, a White House official told ESPN, at one point the United States offered a trade involving Bout for Whelan, who is serving his remaining sentence - 12 years. Unfortunately, Russia declined to trade Whelan due to being on a condition of anonymity, according to several administration officials.   During negotiation, officials generally spoke about what sort of prisoners they were willing to exchange. Russian officials said they considered Whelan to be a type of "different class" prisoner aside from Griner or Bout. Nonetheless, Russia has not offered any counterproposal involving Whelan. After the Nov. 8 midterm, U.S. officials focused on negotiation with Russia but at the time they did not comply. Instead, Griner transferred from Moscow, where she had been since February, to a penal colony. Griner's Time in Penal Colony   As Griner's family, friends and officials feared for her transition, one of Griner's two Russian lawyers, said her client's life in the IK-2 prison wasn't as bad as it might have been. "She had honestly no complaints," Blagovolina said. "Things could have been much worse."   Compared to what Griner could have been assigned to do in IK-2, she liked her job. During the day women work sewing uniforms, but for Griner, it was not suitable. Her hands were too large to carry on the work and is too tall to sit at the worktables. Alternatively, she carried fabric all day, that is until she recently had the flu and shocked fans, on Thursday, with a decision she made.   Blagovolina said Griner cut her hair two Sundays ago and told her attorneys she planned to do it to make the Russian winter bearable. Griner clearly began preparing for a long journey ahead of herself.   Preparing to Return home Over the past few weeks, administration officials said, Russia has proposed, in accordance to doing a one-for-one trade - Griner for Bout. U.S. officials understand that Whelan is out of this deal and would remain in Russia for the time being.   President Biden sealed the deal, and the administration went to visit Whelan's sister, Elizabeth, in person and let her be aware of the negotiation.   According to Blagovolina, on Monday Griner had been moved to a Moscow jail and for the next few days, "complete silence," she said. "It was kind of stressful. We were worried about her -- she didn't have her glasses; she broke her glasses, and we didn't know if she was getting food."   Thursday morning, the word came that she would be heading home.   "I'm glad to be able to say that Brittney is in good spirits. She's relieved to finally be heading home and the fact remains that she's lost months of her life experienced needless trauma. She deserves space, privacy, and time with their loved ones to recover and heal from her time being wrongfully detained," said President Biden.   As Griner's life finally comes off a pause she now can take time and space to recover. Never Pour Oil or Grease Down the Drain
When you clean your dishes and wash some amount of cooking oil into the drain, it will instantly solidify and stick to the sides of the pipes. With time, food particles will start to stick to the oil deposits which can clog the pipes, causing serious Sewer Line Repair problems.
Plumbing Tip : Use a Drain Strainer
Clogs are caused when things like food, hair, and soap residue deposit in the drains. Clearing a clogged drain can become gross and messy, and smelly too! The simple tip of using a drain strainer will help prevent unpleasant clogged drains in the future.
Plumbing Tip : Flush With Caution
There are some things that can be flushed and then there are some things that should not be flushed! If you start flushing personal hygiene products like toilet paper, sanitary napkins, tampons, cotton balls, and prescription medicines along with bodily waste down the toilet, you will run into some serious trouble pretty soon. Make sure you avoid such blunders!
You Should Know Where Your Main Water Valve Is
Pipes can burst or start leaking which can cause damage to your property. Make sure you are aware of where your main water valve is so you are prepared when there is an issue. Even if you have called the Plumber Near Me, they can take a while to reach you. It would save your house from a lot of water damage.

Conversation
Entry 1
Hosting a dinner party with strangers was the first exciting thing I had done since my moving to Seattle. It’s been months since I felt this way. Optimistic but also terrified of what might come of this night. Who knows who I’ve invited to my apartment, could be a serial killer who targets lonely women who love to cook or someone ready to steal my prized set of limited addition Le Creuset Kitchenware. You never know. As I waited for the arrival of my guests, my eyes wandered my studio apartment, stopping at a framed picture taken earlier this year when I visited home, Vancouver. My mind reminisces on memories of sitting around the dining table surrounded by my friends and family. Warm light shining onto a spread of handmade red bean cakes, dumplings, stinky tofu, and three-cup chicken. Glistening, crackling, steaming. The sound of lively conversation, laughter and exchanging of plates fill my mind as a grin starts to grow on my face. The smell of my ginger, sesame oil and the taste of fresh green onions makes my mouth water as I lick my lips. My heart aches to relive that experience- I almost want to reach out and just jump into the picture. To feel the joy of good company and time flying by again; not something I was getting much of recently.
I’m snapped back to reality when a light unfamiliar chime rings through my apartment. Must be my first guest. First to arrive was Bernice Clare. She’d found my post through her hipster mother who screenshotted my blog and sent it to her. Bernice is new to Seattle, freshman at University of Washington majoring in Journalism and New Media. Having a hard time meeting people outside the campus, this was her way of doing so, at least that’s she said in her email. Who knows. Next to arrive was Mei, a newly divorced mother finding herself alone in a new city she moved to for her husband’s work. I think I was the most excited to meet Mei, as we had exchanged a few menu ideas over email when she told me she used to be a chef in her hometown, Huston Texas. I could tell when I shook her hand she wasn’t lying. Last to arrive was Sole. Messy haired and slightly out of breath, Sole arrives to my door with a bundle of baby breaths wrapped in that brown recycles paper that just screams I got this from Whole Foods. Reaching up, I let one arm wrap around his shoulders. While Sole is technically a stranger, he is my boss’s nephew.
As my guests settled around the table exchanging pleasantries, I take a deep breath in and out as I prepare to official start the night.
