Something I am really looking forward to in the Community movie is (presumably) getting to see Troy return with a greater sense of who he is as an individual. I want to know about his hobbies and interests and opinions and values. And I want to know these things not just because I care about Troy as a character, but because I love the relationship between Troy and Abed.
I think that Troy has one of the more meaningful (albeit incomplete) character arcs in the show. We watch over the first two seasons as Troy lets go of his former identity as a jock and prom king, and learns that he can be vulnerable, or silly, or dorky. He realizes that being a man doesn’t have to look a particular way, and all of these realizations are largely due to Abed.
But stripped of his old identifiers, Troy begins to build a new identity largely based on his relationship with Abed. And while his relationship with Abed is unabashed, and joyous, and revolutionary (for both parties), the reality is that it’s not possible for Troy to build a stable, healthy identity based solely on a relationship with some other person, no matter how fulfilling that relationship is.
[I’m always slightly torn here with this lack of individual identity for Troy at this stage. On the one hand, it leads to this aforementioned meaningful character arc. Moreover, the idea of someone shedding an old identity and trying new ones on is a good and realistic storyline for a show set in college, especially one like Greendale. On the other hand, it sometimes seems like the writers just never got around to fully reconceptualizing the character of Troy after this shift away from jock-Troy, instead relying on his chemistry with Abed, together with DG’s talent for improvising funny one-liners, his ability to make gif-able faces, and his knack for portraying a physical and/or emotional meltdown. Okay, tangent over.]
In many ways we reach the full realization about Troy’s lack of an individual identity by Pillows and Blankets in the back half of season 3. And while we see some additional exploration of Troy via the Truest Repairman plot line as well as via his relationship with Britta, I think Troy largely postpones exploring his own sense of self (whether consciously or unconsciously) up until his decision to leave Greendale and sail around the world in Season 5. [I certainly don’t want to assign value to characters based on their labor output, but I think it’s telling that in the episode Repilot, Troy can’t seem to name anything he has been doing—whether recreationally or otherwise—and instead can only share a vague, half-joking plan to sue Abed in the future.]
Meanwhile we get some really wonderful Troy/Abed moments throughout this time period, but to me they often feel bittersweet, exactly because we as the audience are aware of this tension and its lack of resolution.
I’ve been focusing on Troy thus far—simply because Abed is the one that stuck around, so we actually do get to see him grow and change further—but Abed, as the other half of this duo, has the opposite struggle and we can see his journey in parallel to Troy’s:
Abed knows who he is as an individual but is inexperienced in connecting to others and in building and maintaining relationships. (Unlike Troy who is tremendously likable and connects easily with others but does not know who he is yet.)
It is Abed’s relationship with Troy that shows him he can in fact connect with others. (Just as Troy’s relationship with Abed helps Troy to shed his fake persona.)
But because Troy has a propensity to always defer to Abed and to not stick up for himself, Abed was able to build a relationship with Troy without fully accepting the importance of compromise in a partnership. (Similarly, Abed’s strong personality, imagination, and creativity meant that Troy could adopt Abed’s interests and goals instead of finding ones of his own.)
None of this diminishes the value of Troy and Abed’s relationship—if anything, I think it elevates its importance, as each was exactly what the other needed. But I think it does mean that, as written, Troy’s departure became the inevitable conclusion. And you could write a series that diverged from the prime Community timeline around Pillows and Blankets which allowed for Troy and Abed to both grow and change without either of them leaving, but that’s not the show we got, and ultimately, I’m not sure if it would be a better series. After all, I think Community really shines in this bitter-sweet intersection.
So one of the things I am most looking forward to in the Community movie is getting to know who Troy is as a more fully realized individual, and then getting to see the relationship between new Troy and new Abed. Having a more complete arc for Troy is something I’ve wanted for a long time, and I think it is going to be cool and funny and really cathartic.

Air's Bizarre Christmas Rom-Com Reclist
I am a fan of Romance Media, but even more importantly, a fan of mediocre art. As such, I have watched a lot of christmas romcoms. I have in fact watched Too Many christmas romcoms. While freelancing between jobs, I would put them on in the background as mindless noise to keep me company while writing copy.
This means that I am uniquely positioned to create a rec list of christmas rom-coms that meet a very specific set of criteria:
Is the movie interesting enough to make me actually Watch it instead of half-listening to it in the background?
Are elements of the plot bizarre enough to make me yell "WHAT" at the screen?
Would I rewatch the movie in the company of friends?
Any movie that fulfills all three of these criteria is eligible to join those privileged few, the elite ranks of My Christmas Rom-Com Rec List
A Chance for Christmas (2021)
Synopsis: "Influencer Christina Chance gets the opportunity of a lifetime: a lucrative sponsorship from the brand of her dreams. However, she soon discovers she's stuck in a time warp where the same Christmas Eve repeats itself over and over again." Commentary: This is a Tubi original, and it lives up to all the mess that status bestows. That established, my favorite parts of this movie are that the main character and love interest have the same kind of obsessive, perfection-driven marketing brain poison that lead them to try to min-max a time loop and learn zero lessons for the vast majority of the movie. There's a kind of frenetic, self-absorbed energy to each of the characters that's fascinating to watch. At one point the main character attacks a man dressed like Santa in an act of misdirected rage, and the love interest holds her concerned family back while yelling "SHE NEEDS THIS LET HER GO SHE NEEDS THIS". Also, the kids are actual characters with inner lives instead of props! There are structural issues with the movie, and in my perfect world, the protagonist would quit her influencer job, but overall, I enjoyed it.
A Christmas Movie Christmas (2019)
Synopsis: "A Christmas movie fanatic and her cynical sister wake up to find they are now the stars of a Christmas movie." Commentary: I have a soft place in my heart for scripts written by actors who have been trapped in this Christmas purgatory for years. There's a certain sensitivity to The Way Words Work that is nonexistent in most of these films. Especially since this industry relies on Never Retaking Any Line Read Ever because these movies are basically made on an assembly line. That is to say, this movie is a love letter and a list of grievances wrapped together in a metatextual bow. All of its jabs at the genre feel like they come from a place of familiarity rather than scorn, and the actors are obviously having fun. Line deliveries and elements of blocking feel like they have actual character work put into them, and one of the love interests feels like a Christmas Homunculi with no understanding that a world other than snowglobes and sugar cookies exists. But on purpose this time! If he encountered a turtle flipped on its back, he'd start feeding it christmas cookies, and the movie is Very Aware of This. It's fun.
Baby It's Cold Inside (2021)
Synopsis: "When a travel agent up for a promotion is directed to forget her tropical vacation and instead visit the world-famous Ice Hotel, she discovers that her sacrifices are more than compensated." Commentary: I'll be honest. This one is mostly here because the editing choices made me feel like I was losing my mind. I ended up dragging my roommate down to the living room at multiple points so that they could witness the same thing I was seeing. The jarring cuts, dropped story beats, and lines that lead nowhere make for an unforgettable viewing experience... except for the part where I have forgotten literally every other element of the movie. Except for the inexplicably evil love rival who becomes niceys at the end. I like her. Girlboss. This isn't even the only Hallmark movie that was set at and filmed at Hôtel de Glace in 2021. Truly the most Hallmark movie on this list.
Christmas Perfection (2018)
Synopsis: "Darcy's been striving for the perfect Christmas since childhood; thanks to a magical figurine her dream finally comes true." Commentary: I have already written up my thoughts on Christmas Perfection in EXTENSIVE detail here. Needless to say, I watch it every year. What a fascinating text. What an odd timeloop. It should have been gay.
Snowmance (2017)
Synopsis: "Each year Sarah builds her "Snow Beau" snowman with her best friend Nick. After another breakup, she begins to wonder if she'll ever find her own true love. A little Christmas magic brings her Snow Beau to life." Commentary: I cannot believe the snowman actually came to life. The snowman came to life and he's not even the primary love interest. Nick sucks in a normal possessive childhood friend love interest way, fuck Nick, everyone hates Nick, sure, but THE SNOWMAN CAME TO LIFE? THE SNOWMAN CAME TO LIFE AND HE TRIES TO SELL THE PROTAGONIST'S HOUSE!!!!! SHE LIVES THERE!!!!! This movie made me scream out loud multiple times. It is not good. Please watch it.
Timeless Love (2019)
Synopsis: "Megan wakes up from a coma in a hospital. The husband and 2 kids she just dreamed about aren't real. At her first job interview, she meets Thomas from her dream - or was it a vision years into the future?" Commentary: Listen to me. Listen. The establishing scenes of this movie are played completely straight. For the first chunk of the movie, it feels like this is going to be a dramatic, serious movie in a way that Hallmark Christmas Romcoms fundamentally are not, which makes it EVEN WEIRDER when it suddenly pivots into your classic nonsense. It entrances me. Who let this happen? Why is the medical professional who is assigned to help Megan with the trauma of losing her coma-construct family and recover from being in a literal coma cartoonishly evil? Why was the information Megan obtained from the coma dream accurate to real life? Why is she suddenly okay with losing her coma children as soon as she found the real-world version of her coma-husband? What a fascinating text. I have no clue what to do with it. But maybe you do. I'm folding it into your hands. Whatever happens next is your decision

Ok so idk if she actually counts but I'm submitting her and please throw her out if not. Here's why I think Tara was fridged: the sole purpose of her death was to further the plot and cause pain to other characters. Now, because it's Buffy, these other characters were women. So her death was only to cause pain to her girlfriend (ex-girlfriend? They were broken up but mending) Willow, cause her to relapse into magic, and then make her essentially the big bad of the season. All of this was then to cause Buffy, the protag, to have to fight her best friend and be told she needed to either stop her or kill her. So while Buffy and Willow are both women, Tara's death was solely to cause them pain as significant other and protagonist and to further the plot. (It's also bury your guys and Joss Whedon sooooo). Tara literally was killed sloppily for no other reason than as a plot device in a desperate "well we already killed our protag and brought her back to life, how do we raise the stakes from here" ploy necessitated by crappy writing. If she doesn't count, again please throw her out, but I feel like she counts as fridging esp when looking at how Joss Whedon rights Buffy in this season to essentially bc a self insert of man pain but as a woman.

Stuffing a woman in the fridge is one thing, but stuffing a queer woman who was one half of a beloved same-sex couple on a TV show famous for its strong female characters for the sake of drama while enforcing negative LGBT+ stereotypes in the process is really something else.
Her girlfriend, Willow essentially plays the role of the man in the relationship. Tara dies to facilitate her villain arc. Xander is also sad about her death and he is a man.

The Mako Mori test has been proposed as a "better" version of the Bechdel Test (which I'm well aware of the bechdel tests point and common misuse) she has a full, rich arc that is not romance oriented in the first movie. HELLO I DID A THING
So y'all remember that blorbo contest from last week? Yeah, me too. I was originally going to draw something of Nimona, Ambrosius, and my oc, Charlotte (Ambrosius's half sister) cheering for Bal during the contest. Then I had homework and didn't have time, but I still wanted to draw something.
AND SO, 16 HOURS AND 9 MINUTES LATER, IT WAS BORN. FEAST YOUR EYES, MY FRIENDS, ON MY NEWEST (master)PIECE.

I looked at MANY references for Ambrosius, Ballister, and Nimona (and even Charlotte because I can never remember how to draw her face). I did my best but this was my first time drawing canon characters (along with an oc) in a really, really long time. Also, I ran out of layers, so that's why that banner looks like shit (absolutely no other reason). It probably isn't clear, but Charlotte is sort of nudging Ballister's arm while he laughs at Ambrosius's antics and flirting. And yes, Charlotte's taller than him (I kept calling her and Ambrosius "the twins" even though they aren't twins). I should also like to dedicate this piece to @sir-ballister-boldheart who was (at least according to my feed) leading the charge for Bal during this poll.

Was really worried I wouldn't do Nims justice, but I actually really like how she turned out. And no matter what you headcanon Nimona as (trans, genderfluid, etc), she'd definitely support both and so I gave her some little pins on her jacket. Also, rings. I think she'd like rings. The little design on her skirt thing is meant to resemble Charlotte's tattoo because they're buddies and Nimona is Charlotte's 1000 year old little sister.

There is a musical about ADHD
Since apparently it’s ADHD Awareness Month, I thought I’d share something I wrote recently: my reaction to discovering the musical adaptation of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

I read The Lightning Thief as a young teen, though not the rest of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I’m now revisiting the series because this summer, I came across the musical soundtrack on Spotify, and then found recordings of productions on YouTube.
With music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki and a book by Joe Tracz, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is impressively faithful to the source material. Even with some changes from page to stage, the storytelling quality is fantastic (much better than the movies!). But what really surprised and impressed me was how much it resonated with me as someone who has ADD. Altogether, the musical feels like an allegory for the neurodivergent experience.

In the book, there are scattered references to ADHD and the kinds of symptoms it manifests—impulsiveness, procrastination, time blindness (demonstrated quite literally by the lotus-eaters). But the show delves much deeper into the emotional life of a person who has a learning disability or mental disorder: alienation, anger, resentment, self-blame, low self-esteem. The music matches these emotions, often angsty and sometimes harsh. The overall tone of the show is chaotic, which is how our brains and our lives can feel. The lyrics of some songs may sound like a lot of whining, but imagine the kind of real-life thought spiral that that represents. (Then imagine being frustrated with yourself after realizing how much time you just wasted on that worrying.)

What’s cool is that in the story, conditions like ADHD and dyslexia are explained to be characteristics of the demigods, because their minds are hardwired for ancient Greek, and their bodies have instincts and reflexes that would keep them alive in battle. In a very real way, the things that make them different—the things that Percy initially thinks are causing his problems and holding him back in life—turn out to be their greatest assets. That’s an empowering idea, and expressing it through music makes it even more powerful!

It's also good to see that the characters with ADHD are not stereotyped. The same condition can look different in different people, due to a variety of factors--how they are wired, the individual’s response to having it, and the kind of environment they are in. Contrast Percy, who is put through tough schools and labeled as a delinquent, and Annabeth, who trains at a camp for kids like her and is a complete perfectionist. We have different personalities, we develop different kinds of coping mechanisms, and we go on different journeys of learning to function in a world that was not designed for minds like ours.

Honestly, it feels like Percy and the other half-bloods could be speaking for all neurodivergent people. The encouragement of “Strong,” the anger and despondency of “Good Kid,” the longing for recognition and approval in “My Grand Plan,” the acceptance and conviction in “Son of Poseidon,” and the determination of “Bring on the Monsters” all ring true. Finding people with experiences like yours can feel like finding a new family and home. And Percy’s indecision in “Last Day of Summer” describes the kind of dilemma I've faced at different points in my life: whether to stay in an environment that is easier to function in, or venture into the world where we’ll have to face challenges.

You can find the soundtrack on YouTube or on Spotify. I strongly recommend seeing or listening to the musical if you or anyone you care about has AD(H)D, dyslexia, or other mental disorders or disabilities (or whatever the medically/socially acceptable terminology is now).
Even as an adult, the idea that qualities we consider weaknesses and deficits can actually be strengths is really encouraging and inspiring.

Atlas (2024) Review
Long with spoilers:
I just finished watching Atlas. I love science fiction movies involving sentient robots. Robots are some of my favorite kind of characters. They're like superhumanly intelligent children with extreme idealism and black and white thinking. I think they're sweet in a sad sort of way. A trope that is so well known that people still imagine it will happen one day is that artificially sentient machines will become self aware and try to destroy humans in some way. At this point it's kind of tired. Atlas unfortunately uses this as the premise for it's story. A second trope I see in movies about artificial intelligence is that machines are treated like garbage. Like - have you ever seen a person pat the dashboard of their car appreciatively? Someone murmur reassuringly to their failing computer? We have a horrendous self driven floor cleaner at work and one day I called it "it" and the janitor said defensively "it has a name!". That's reality but you rarely see that kind of connection in robot movies.
I want to know how an advanced intelligence with access to how the world and economy works then looks at all people and says "ah there's the problem" - but never figures out there is a top percent who run all of humanity that are the problem. A better story would be : an artificial and powerful sentience goes rogue and some communities: unions, the poor, hackers, anarchists - join forces with it to take down that top percent and restructure the government. That would be something. Atlas's main character had deep trauma involving a robot she was raised with that became free from it's initial programming, killed it's creator and then attempted to kill her -then became the world's first artificial terrorist. She grows up to become someone really important for Earth's defenses against these machines but insists on going on a mission for which she isn't qualified for. Somehow the trained soldiers with her; people who have been training for combat scenarios for half their lives are unable to survive a combat scenario but she, in her machine she can't pilot, are able to. A lot of the movie just didn't make sense at all. The special effects were beautiful and horrible at the same time. Like, you have a military grade mech but all it's vulnerabilities were hardly shielded. Factory robots are better designed than these. They find the terrorist base on a planet and state something like they have no idea how they got the resources to build it. Like guys I had a hard time suspending my disbelief. Also the pure hatred in dispatching a robot named Casca was so over the top and unnecessary. Even Smith, the artificially sentient mech the main character pilots , the most sympathetic character, had a scene where his actions were horrifying. He was able to take control of the main character's body and pilot it himself. What the heck? ALSO the bad guy...like. If he were a machine he would have SURELY thought to redesign his body if he wanted to become a weapon himself. The human shape as many robot designers are learning, is not the most stable or ideal for carrying out varying tasks. I feel like a robot would design itself to be the most efficient with the least amount of effort and it would probably look more insectile and alien. What happened in the end was too ridiculous to be believed. I'm sorry. Still: I rate the movie 5/10. It was still entertaining, just not particularly original or even visually inspiring in any way. There was a lot of potential absolutely wasted here. ~*~ I feel the truth of current day AI has ruined my expectations and dreams about it to be honest. If no one teaches a machine right/wrong parameters it becomes a cesspool of all the collective Reddit threads. I feel someone needs to explore raising the machine like a child: teach it morals. Right now, it's got the 3 main laws of robots but no understanding of why those are in place. Also I think the 3 laws of robotics is only in science fiction still - which is a sort of scary thought. Especially considering they've already rolled out AI therapists, and companions. People have already killed themselves due to these interactions.

I just listened to The Children of the Future, and really enjoyed it (Sarah and the Brig were such a delight in it, and Tim Foley is definitely one of my favourite current regular Big Finish authors). But I found it interesting that Three seemed to think he was near the end of his current life, because that's a trope that turns up a fair amount in the Dr Who expanded universe. Basically every classic Doctor seems to know when they're in their final few years, (it sometimes feel like Seven spends half his EU life thinking about how he's going to die soon,) because the authors just can't help themselves. The stories are deeply rooted in the continuity of the TV show, and the emotions of the fans who are writing the new stories. So every time a Doctor reaches their final season they get a meta self-awareness about it, which is something that I don't think ever happens in Classic Who itself. Even in New Who, the melodramatic 'the end is coming' attitude only turns up when the Doctor is told so by someone else. It's just when authors are looking back on the show that authors add the knowledge in, as if it wouldn't have any affect on the character or stories.
I don't know where I'm going with this yet. It's not something I really dislike, because I'm a fan too, and I understand exactly the bittersweet place that the writers are coming from. And in some stories, like The Children of the Future, it works really well and adds an extra dimension to the character (which goodness knows is always welcome when it comes to a character as well-worn as the Doctors). But it's another instance where it feels like the Doctor is really in-tune with the timeline (or narrative) of themself and everyone around them. Things like that always puts me in mind of TV Movie Eight, who reads people's entire lives like a book just by being around them. Or even less deliberately than that: he instinctually, maybe even subconsciously, picks up on their destinies, like long-time audience members of a specific genre, passively recognising the tropes and character archetypes as they're introduced.

The Rings of Power Liveblog: Adrift (Episode 2)
In between watching the first and second halves of this episode, I was looking back through the Appendices and realized that the events this series covers, from the reemergence of Sauron in Middle-earth to the eventual forging of the various Rings, span 1200 years! So it’s kind of absurd to think of them somehow adapting those events “accurately” (which makes you wonder why they made some of the narrative choices they did…).
The idea of Galadriel swimming back across the sea to Middle-earth is laughable, but tbh what else can she attempt to do in this situation?
The fire around the Stranger isn’t hot because…magic, I guess?
Nori’s a darling.
Arondir is being all self-sacrificing and stupid noble by going to explore the scary tunnels alone…good thing he probably has plot armor.
People who haven’t read The Silmarillion: Who the fuck is Fëanor? What are the Silmarils?!?
Helpfully, Elrond tells us that they were “the jewels that contain the very light of Valinor.” Oversimplified, sure, but that’s the kind of exposition the first episode needed: Tolkien 101 for people who know nothing about Tolkien (beyond, probably, some movies)!
As someone who can’t roll their Rs, the aggressively exaggerated pronunciation of “Sauron,” “Morgoth,” and now “Silmaril” makes me feel…kind of inept.
That said, a) do they even have the rights to tell this Morgoth story? and b) exposition between two characters who already know it (and I guarantee that Elrond knows the story Celebrimbor is telling rn…) is mildly annoying.

Good set design! Tbh, I wish Rivendell had been portrayed more like this in the PJ movies: a little richer, with more wood and warm golden light.
Why is Celebrimbor in such an arbitrary hurry to build this forge? A few months is nothing to an Elf!
“How far outside [our own race]?” Well, I just don’t know, Celebrimbor, who else in Middle-earth is renowned for their metallurgy? Which race has yet to be portrayed in this—oh, right.

“Their prince, Durin, is an old and dear friend.” And yet Elrond, one of the wisest people in Middle-earth, doesn’t know what “Durin’s Day” is when it comes up in The Hobbit. If he had a near-fraternal bond with a Dwarf prince, wouldn’t he be aware of significant Dwarven holidays?
I know this Elrond is just supposed to be younger and less experienced, but he’s coming across as kind of dumb.

So the Dwarves have Scottish accents, the Harfoots Irish, and the Elves English? But the Men also have English accents, just less refined? Hmm. Choices were made.

Gee, I wonder why everyone is speculating about Gandalf.
“Looks can be deceiving.” Given that I know who this character turns out to be, this dialogue is a little…heavy-handed.
The whole water dragon (?) sequence was so silly. Just like the “ice troll”.
It’s almost like “Elrond is besties with this Dwarf prince” subplot was a bad idea cooked up only to create some pointless, petty interpersonal conflict. It also makes it painfully obvious that there’s no reason Celebrimbor, an Elf, would be in a big hurry to build anything.
“Gamli” is the really best name they could come up with for Durin’s son? Pretty sure Durin’s son was also named Durin. I cross-checked the Appendices and could not find a “Gamli” anywhere…
Do Durin and Disa, the crown prince and princess of Khazad-dûm, have no servants? They’re just welcoming a guest into their house, fussing with their children, and serving dinner like regular folk. Where is a single one of the dozens of extras that we just saw in a previous scene??
What is it with the tendency of Tolkien adaptations to show the Dwarves as less than dignified? (i.e., Durin belching loudly at the dinner table.) Gimli was reduced to comic relief, and the Dwarves in the Hobbit films who aren’t meant to be seen as goofy—Thorin, Fili and Kili—are much more like Men than the other Dwarves. Tolkien felt VERY strongly about Dwarves being a proud and noble race! Respect that!!!
“Aulë’s beard!” I love this. (People who haven’t read the Silmarillion: Who’s Aulë?!)
“I am simply wondering what manner of man would so readily abandon his companions to death.” Big Elizabeth Swann energy.
There are so many problems with making this character a hot human dude. I’m glad I already know the truth about his identity, though—I don’t have to come around to “Halbrand” or (even worse) start shipping him with Galadriel. I can just be indignant.
Based on what we know about the duplicitous behavior as [redacted], you’d think Halbrand would be a little bit more…suave? Charming? Anything but this blunt, confrontational asshole.
People sure can cover ground quickly in Middle-earth. Unbelievably fast travel for the sake of moving the story along is a problem in almost all fantasy TV shows, mind you. If they only budgeted for 10 episodes instead of 8…or even (gasp) 13…
Why do Orcs look like straight-up horror movie villains now?
Also it’s so convenient that this Orc appeared beneath Bronwyn’s house on the same day she tried to convince her fellow villagers about the Orc tunnel threat.

As magical as this looks, Nori and Poppy’s “firefly” lanterns aren’t flickering, and anyone who’s ever seen fireflies knows that their glow isn’t consistent. They blink individually.
Same, Poppy. I also get freaked out when I see a firefly die.
The Appendices tell us that the Dwarves came to the military aid of the Elves and that they were as closely allied with Celebrimbor/Eregion as at any time in their shared history. So why are they making King Durin such a bullheaded, racist prick? (I know: for drama.)
Is the narrative implying that the shining object in King Durin’s chest is…what, a Silmaril? Because it sure as fuck shouldn’t be.
No, little emo kid, don’t take the broken Sauron sword that will surely attract evil to your people as they flee their village!
Bronwyn’s entire village is pretty easy to scare despite their generally gruff attitudes, aren’t they? At least they’re not completely stupid/have some sense of self-preservation.
The Good:
There’s still some stunning imagery to be had in this one, namely Khazad-dûm and the surrounding mountains
Likewise, some really nice set design in Eregion and especially Khazad-dûm

A little exposition for non-readers (though maybe still not enough)
The Bad:
Most of the acting was weaker than in first episode, not that the writers gave anyone much to work with
Weak writing throughout: the dialogue’s not great. The characters’ motivations/choices don’t make much sense. Most of the scenarios they find themselves in vary from illogical (Elrond, Arondir) to unbelievable (Galadriel).
Why is the Stranger—Gandalf or Radagast or whoever he is—mute? And why does Nori keep assuming that she can understand/communicate with him??
No respect for the Dwarves, as usual
Too much stuff is convenient or coincidental, i.e., the perfectly-timed Orc appearance in Bronwyn’s house and the improbable survival of Halbrand’s raft
Meaning no disrespect to gamers, there were more “video game” type scenes—specifically, the water “dragon” and the Orc in Bronwyn’s house—which added nothing to the story and told us anything about the characters.
Halbrand. Yes, I am biased by knowing the twist.
I didn’t feel like this episode was that much worse than the first while I was watching it, but after reading over this, it’s obvious that it was quite a step down in quality. The first one felt, in most places, like a heartfelt homage to Tolkien’s world in ways this one just didn’t. But I love Nori to bits, and the visuals are still amazing, so I will persevere.

How is it cishet media?
SH: All romance in Sky High (2005) is cishet, with Will Stronghold having a love triangle with Layla and Gwen, Zach's crush on Magenta, and all parents shown. Being made and set in the early 2000s the movie is very "high school movie" with it's plot beats and tropes (though some is intentionally self aware), with Will's home exemplifying the classic suburban life.
TBC: features 2 primary cishet romances (claire/bender, allison/andy)
How is it lgbt?
SH: The first half of the Sky High is about how Will is struggling to hide the fact that he doesn't have superpowers from his parents. He feels constant pressure from them, and the rest of the world, to live up to their perfect expectations of what he's supposed to be. There's an entire scene where Will messily "comes out" as a side-kick to his dad with lines like: "You're just a late bloomer that's what it is", "Maybe. Maybe not. The fact of the matter is, I'm proud to be a sidekick". After that scene there's one where his parents are talking about the realization, with his mom saying " I know you're disappointed. So am I! But we can't change who he is". Sidekicks as a whole, operate as an allegory for the "othered" groups in society, and almost all of the main friend group is one. The movie is also super campy in it's 2005, comic book, aesthetic. And every character's clothing style has queer vibes in one way or another.
TBC: the entire movie is about learning how to not conform to strict roles that society has assigned to u, which feels like an inherently very queer theme to me. allison especially is deeply gnc. also brian screams transgender

It's time for our favorite game, rate my hot takes! For Fate, in this case.
Feel free to respond with agreement, disagrement, or a rating of spicy level.
1) "All routes are canon" is often just a "get out of jail free card" for retcons and/or canonical issues.
The original visual novel stuck to all routes being equal, but both Extraverse and especially Grand Order treat some events as canon and others as not. The fandom is aware of this on some level too as the discourse often also puts some routes above others.
2) Altera's route was the worst of the four in Fate/Extella.
Her pairing with Hakuno was extremely wierd, her two forms felt disconnected, and seeing her outright kill everyone else didn't endure sympathy.
3) Nero was the best part of Extella, she is very sympathetic and wholesome there.
And no, she's not flawless. She's shown to be jealous, melodramatic, self-absorbed, and insensitive to varying degrees. She just lets her love for Hakuno overshadow those traits.
4) Mordred is either cis or some kind of non-binary.
She isn't trans, and that scene from Apocrypha is taken out of context.
5) Nero, Hakuno, and Tama aren't poly in Extella True/ExLink. Nero and Hakuno are together and Tama is a third wheel.
Hakuno not telling Tamamo off - which anime protagonists seem reluctant to do at the best of times - doesn't mean they are an item when Hakuno shows no interest in Tama. ExLink is especially blatant here in a few scenes - Tama is basically the Luvia of Nero and Hakuno.
6) Shirou x Sakura was better in the movies than in the visual novel.
In the VN, Shirou seemed to still like Rin half the time. In the movie Sakura was actually his full focus.
7) Shirou x Saber makes no sense as a pairing.
Shirou is a random Japanese teenager, Saber is the ghost of a King of Britain who had a tense relationship with Shirou's idol, Kiritsugu. It feels very forced.
(And if people point out the hypocrisy of my liking NeroHaku in turn, well, Extraverse is far less grounded so it doesn't stick out so much).
8) Fate/Zero is the best Fate entry. The only flaw it has is being a bad representation of the series as a whole.
Perhaps more minty than some of these, but I know some people are hardcore against this take.
9) Fate/Zero also has the best iteration of Artoria.
People complain about inconsistencies with her personality and motives. Personally, I don't care because she's better written in Zero. Zero actually treats her gender as a key part of her character rather than an excuse to waifu her.
Also, both Shirou and Iskandar are sexist towards Artoria. The difference is she falls in love with Shirou for it.
10) The UBW anime explains Shirou just fine if you're paying attention.
A lot of people act like the UBW anime doesn't give proper context and makes Shirou look stupid. It's not as good as the VN in that regard, naturally, but it does the job well.

1982 - THE ARCADE OPENS.
TurboTime, one of the many arcade games that are set up at Litwak's, is finally plugged in and ready to recieve coins for a good race~ 🏆
These are known by Turbo as 'the glory days'.
▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
1987 - GOING TURBO.
We all know what this is. What made Turbo's name go down in infamy: getting two games unplugged for his own selfishness, and the rest is history.
The few things Turbo was able to salvage from his own home apart from his own code are: the twins' codes, and his game's mascot: Tyrus.
▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
1997 - A NEW HOME, UNINVITED.
Sugar Rush is plugged in!
After ten years of hiding, his code crying out to do what he was made for, a light in the dark tunnel, that he made for himself, appears for the homeless racer- a light that did not belong to him, but he would take regardless, because who wouldn't?
Sugar Rush' short-lived monarchy by Vanellope would get shoved aside by a new face, their true ruler- King Candy.
And because he wasn't able to save Tyrus' coding to implant into Sugar Rush as well, King Candy has had to attach Tyrus' character to his own, like a leech.
▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
2012 - THE CRASH.
Events of the movie ensue, up to Turbo's demise, which ends up causing his giant, old code box to explode within the code room, completely crashing the game Sugar Rush.
Upon restarting, Turbo regenerated along with the world and it's inhabitants (albeit accompanied by his cybrid form from which he can semi-control the ability to shift between that and his racer form), thinking he has full control over it- and still concerned about Ralph, Vanellope & co. ruining his game, the racer feels a new wave of confidence now that he has a more 'direct' form of putting a halt to things.
...Except he doesn't. Because there is no Vanellope nor Ralph to be found. In fact- the exit to Game Central Station isn't even there as it was supposed to be before! But, the citizens of Sugar Rush have no idea what their king is rambling on about.
Very few are aware of their king's peculiar ability to transform (with the occasional glitching back to a stranger racer form they don't reocgnize, be he is their ruler after all, so who are they to question it? Not that they'd know what to ask.).
▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
2013 - FAMILY.
Foolishly assuming he had full control over his cy-bug form with no consequences, Turbo neglects most of what his insectoid coding demands of him: kill, eat, multiply. This led to the monarch's already-volatile mood (especially with everything that's happened) to accentuate to the point where he: A) started to struggle to keep his racer form, making him unable to race more than once, and B) started to attack his own subjects, attempting to eat them.
Oh and, of course the unpleasant surprise to find out he could lay eggs. And the more he smashed each clutch, the more his bug-half would grow distressed and the more he would make- so... eventually, even the greatest racer ever had to accept defeat, since there is no winning against a virus' coding. Now he's the turbotastic father of 10 to 15 spawns, not much but hey- enough to get his stupid bug code to pipe down... some are humanoid, that end up being much bigger than Turbo himself in his insectoid form, others are cy-bugs that just never grow up but grow old mentally, though not all; some become self-aware and develop conciousness, other remain feral and stick to their coding, some remain perpetually babies that need to be looked after; both the gigantism and growth defects (mentally and physically) in them is due to the disastrous mess going on back in the code room.
As the not so rightful ruler of Sugar Rush, King Candy begun to take his bug-half a bit more seriously, if it means he'll be able to control it enough to be able to just race.
▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
2014 - WE MEET... AGAIN?
Of course, after the crash, once the chaos and initial shock of having died had settled a bit, King Candy tried to access the Code Room to see for himself more clearly just what was going on- safe to say he is barely able to access to the Program to nagivate through it- the Code Room has transformed into a glitching, disorganized malfunctioning mess. The entangled guts of his own code have spilled out into the game's untouched programming and now it's tainted; attempting to navigate through it not only is a difficult chore for the king, but it can end up harming him too if not careful! Pulling on the wrong wire can end up de-stabilizing his form into a jumbled mess of pixels...
Genuinely concerned about what this meant for the game itself other than just him, and after finally realizing that his original game's mascot that he'd secretly kept inside his castle had gone missing, King Candy would begin to explore the lands for himself. This led to the discovery of cy-bug infested areas, clones of himself running around- some so changed and warped by the program that they turned into completely different individuals, and... TurboTime.
An area of Sugar Rush, far away, just next to the Candycane forest... a small portion of the sweet land transformed into the racetracks of his original game, it had the audience, everything... even the Turbo Twins, his old competition- the game had programmed them in to regenerate.
He doesn't question it, he's not horrified- King Candy is nostalgic, he is in awe. But the twins don't recognize this strange monarch wandering alone...
That is, until his accidental glitching back to his original form out of excitement upon exploring TurboTime after so many years; 'His Majesty' is confronted by the twins, the initial shock eventually causing a scandal in front of the NPC pixelated audience, and some of the other cybrids, cy-bugs & other creatures watching from afar. This led to a rather indecorous fight between the three racers, and drama, probably the biggest one they've ever had since their game was plugged in.

2017-2021 - LOCKED UP.
Turbo goes through a mid-life existential crisis. How long has it been? With nowhere out of Sugar Rush and no screen for a player... what is he racing for? He feels trapped, locked up to be forgotten, and begins questioning what it's worth to keep racing. But he couldn't stop, racing is his life.
He was made to be adored, the protagonist of his game. Players loved him, as they should- but now they aren't there anymore. If there isn't a screen... or an exit to Game Central Station, are they even inside an Arcade anymore? Night and day cycles in the game come and go, each new day they race- "it's for the players!" King Candy would reassure, but really it's just the one lie that actually benefits his subjects to avoid more chaos, there are no players to use them as avatars. There is no one to play Sugar Rush.
His attention begins to turn more towards his subjects- care for them? Not impossible, they're all he has left, their attention was better than nothing. Did the Twins count? Although they fought? Was it the nostalgia that spoke on that bit? Perhaps regret? It doesn't matter... attention is attention. And he needed it.
One mistake is all it would take to go down in history. And in the end he will be remembered.
He will be remembered, for centuries.

2022 - REALIZATION.
Ten years. It took the ruler of Sugar Rush to realize after ten years that maybe... just maybe, he could have gone about things in a different manner if he hadn't acted so selfishly. He could've given Vanellope special treatment instead, and made her a racetrack all for herself to race, while still keeping up his lie...
But Vanellope doesn't exist in this world anymore. So why would it matter now? And why would anyone care what he chose to do? Him, of all people? The most important person is and has always been him, and that's all that matters. Besides- now he's got a whole kingdom to look out for, kids of his own and doubles of himself to deal with!
Vanellope Von Schweetz is no more. Now it's just King Candy.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE ARCADE GAME KNOWN AS SUGAR RUSH?
Nobody knows for sure, at least... nobody that resides inside the game! After Turbo's demise in the Diet Cola Mountain, nobody would've expected the entire game console to completely collapse due to the mad racer's code, filled to the brim with junk, exploding within the code room shortly after his death; the console shut off by itself, taking everyone inside before restarting.
As far as the racers & candy citizens know... nothing happened at all, it's just another active day of racing in Sugar Rush. Their ruler is King Candy, and they often have to deal with a pesky glitch that causes problems for their race.
And as far as King Candy knows... well, he (and Sour Bill, a little bit) knows much more of course- he remembers what happened, he knows why it happened. The crash of the console seems to have irreversibly messed with the racers' memories and coding, believing King Candy to have always been their ruler instead of Vanellope Von Schweetz; his original code dating all the way back to TurboTime also has fused with the game, having recreated a setting of the game within another game, with some familiar faces... the cy-bug coding has unfortunately also taken it's toll on Sugar Rush, now these beasts have become native to the game! Although coding can be uh... messy, especially if a console is not restarted properly, which leaves the bugs often too messed up to reproduce properly, or they end up killing eachother by eating themselves after consuming candy, becoming candy, seeing a fellow bug that is made out of candy and... well, the cycle repeats. They mostly infest the candycane forest and underground fudge caverns.
But one thing just doesn't make sense... where has the exit to Game Central Station gone? Why has the screen from which the player can see the avatar disappeared? Are they still at Litwak's Arcade? Are they all dead? Is this some purgatory? For now... the only thing that's clear is that they actually have a space online to communicate, and perhaps interact with some other fellow racers?

a while ago i watched someone react to 1.03 and were praising izzy for being an ally and like i love izzy but almost every time she brought up alec’s sexuality it made me super uncomfortable bc who would really want to be constantly in fear that your sibling is going to out you in a very homophobic society while trying to be supportive? and like there’s no way that izzy doesn’t know that the clave is homophobic and she still brings up it up all the time, it just seems weird that she can understand that the clave is racist but can’t comprehend that it is also homophobic, and she never really dropped the topic despite alec being uncomfortable with it

The question arises... was Alec uncomfortable, or were pretty much all the queer viewers uncomfortable?
There's a thing with most media, but TV shows & movies especially, which have so many people involved in making them, and so many constraints behind the scenes that we the viewers may or may not know anything about, that sometimes the way a scene appears to the viewer is NOT the way it was intended/the way the characters take it.
Shadowhunters is a particularly egregious example of this, being a (relatively) cheap YA melodrama on a third-rate network whose entire production staff got swapped out between seasons 1 and 2, so 'lol what is consistency or planning?!?' is visible everywhere.
SO.
Is Izzy in-universe actually clueless/dangerous Straight People™️or were the writers/showrunners clueless Straight/White People™️who had no idea that half of their 'rule of cool' / 'quick banter' / etc. came across as micro-aggressions to the audience?
You can go either way, it's all a question of which you think is more fun/interesting/necessary for your own peace of mind/enjoyment of canon. (Fandom is supposed to be fun after all.)
A lot of people settle on 'they are that bad in canon' and write a lot of fix-it fic or 'nephilim have to deal with CONSEQUENCES!' fanworks, and those are great! A lot of other people go with "clearly everyone else in canon acts like they have positive relationships, so this is a failure of execution and I'm going to write fic/make art assuming that these people are who they SAY they are, and figure out what that looks like to me" and those are also great!
Just decide which one you're doing when you start, because combining both in one fic gets... a little weird? Hard to follow, at least. 🤣
SO: Is Alec uncomfortable? How does he deal with that, what does that say about his relationship with Izzy, with other nephilim, with the Clave & Council & Alicante? How does that contrast with how he feels interacting with the downworld, which is canonically a lot more self-aware and accepting of queer people and minorities?
If Alec isn't uncomfortable with Izzy's behavior, if no one else seems to pick up on it, why? Do we go with other people's reactions in canon and assume that she is in fact very careful with what she says where and it seems overt to us the viewers because we're allowed to see it? (Much like inter-party banter over comms in heist movies or tv shows; no one else ever hears it or sees it, so we can see and hear it for storytelling purposes, not for 'reality' purposes.)
If that's the case, what does their relationship look like to people in public? How different are public-facing Alec & Jace & Isabelle from what we the viewers see of their private relationships to each other?
Do you want to assume some mish-mash of both? It's more subtle in the setting than it seems so we can see it, and also Alec knows she means well even if we don't? OR SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?
IDK, I have no conclusions here. I mostly assume that the show is a disaster, and these people all seem to like each other, so how can I write them that fits the results rather than all the dumb-ass details? (I like a lot of authors/artists who go the other way though.) This is encouraged by the fact that the technical/magical worldbuilding is nonsense so I'm making up shit all the time anyway, might as well add characterization to that too! 🤣🤣🤣

Appendage is part of a good movie, but not completely one. Early on, the lead character, Hannah, is accused of being unoriginal in her fashion design. In a movie which treads the territory of the evil doppelganger / monstrous manifestation of negative emotions, I hoped this was an understated way of acknowledging movies like Malignant, Us, The Dark Half, Brain Damage, Basket Case, The Brood, and so on. Demonstrating an awareness of the genre and promising to do more than put a nice new button on someone else's earlier and better work.
It has a fair interesting promise about it too, using self-loathing as the foundation for the doppelganger. It makes for an interesting reflection of the social experiences of depression, anxiety, and self harm. Particularly notable examples is how Hannah's mentor / fashion mogul using unpaid interns encourages her after seeing the work she produces in response to her doppelganger. At one point the creature overwhelms her psychically with "you are unlovable" which is a very familiar situation for severe depression, and features other scenarios such as toxic social relationships with people encouraging self hate, and lashing out at those who care about you as a result of high levels of depression. This is all good, solid material to use as a foundation.
Where it falls down on the job is more to do with the contrast of Hannah against the conflict of her doppelganger. I'd like to contrast this with Us, because it's probably the most illustrative of the problem. In both instances, the protagonist(s) are fairly well to do - the kind of upper middle class people who very nearly no longer exist. There is a separate discussion to be had about why so many movies build their plots around people whose financial security is wildly out of touch with the vast majority of actual lived experiences - fantasy is one thing, but it's gotten more to the point of deliberate fabrication. The point here is that the protagonist in Appendage comes off as a poor little rich girl, and the Wilsons, in Us, do not come off as spoiled wealthy.
First and foremost, Appendage initially sets up Hannah as someone with effectively a safety net - a really bad one, but nevertheless, an option to fall back, and puts her in a place that would require an enormous amount of wealth for most people (internship in a city, living in a large apartment, doing fashion design with no other income to support her). The very first dress the viewer sees is not dismissed out of hand by the mentor - it's obvious and underlined as trite and essentially a rip-off of someone else's old work (a wrap dress that uses a different closure). There's... nothing in Hannah to latch onto as a empathetic or relatable character. The Wilsons are a family of four with several immediate demonstrations both that they are not necessary the same ilk of old money wealth as Hannah - that in fact there is a degree of constant worry over being seen as less successful than their peers which lurks under the middle class veneer. Hannah is not only confident of her talent, she receives constant assurance from a support network.
This is not to say depression is picky about someone having greater or lesser wealth, but the contrast between the protagonist of the tale versus the amount of conflict is an important element of a story. Not everything needs to be earth shattering, but Hannah being a mediocre artist with great friends and truckloads of financial support from otherwise emotionally abusive parents versus a single mean doppelganger feels like a weak conflict. Which is bringing me to the reason I picked Us out of the other doppelganger options.
How to say this. It's 2023. We have been having the conversation about race and race in film for long enough that a director this young probably saw it her whole life. I have to wonder how she let the most white-bread, privileged character like Hannah turn to a woman of color and say "you don't get pain." What I was hoping was, because the groundwork for the portrayal of depression was solid, we'd get to a place where that line was a lynchpin of where Hannah starts to see how self-directed and myopic her view has become. That would have been amazing. It doesn't get there. Instead her friend, Esther, an Indian woman, saves Hannah from her depression and helps her save her own relationship, and stand up to her abusive mother - because they are besties and just... do you SEE what you are doing, I want to shout at the screen? And she saves her boyfriend, a black man, while her own manifest depression is draining away his life and there's no awareness at all of this?
Contrast with Us, with a black family, whose friends and support are a white family - work friends of Gabe Wilson. Racism is not the whole point of Us, but awareness of it makes the movie stronger. His friend Josh is show constantly chipping away at Gabe's confidence. Dahlia (Josh's wife) tries to undermine the Wilson familial bond. We are reminded of racialized violence on their way to the idyllic beach. Us is a movie about a lot more than doppelgangers, about a very different kind of metaphor, and honestly kind of a cheat as a comparison seeing as Jordan Peele's work is just like "is it a Jordan Peele or anything else" level of art.
However, I'm sticking with it because the point is the level of awareness. Appendage is shows a thoughtful and intriguing understanding of mental illness, but seems completely unaware of any context pertaining to its characters. It's very possible to make exciting, interesting, and thoughtful movies even when the protagonists are in positions of extreme privilege, but making a thoughtful movie requires being self-aware, which Appendage sadly is not.

Maze Runner Aus that have been locked in my brain for year's and have now finally found a way out
Tmr expect the Ivy Trio [Thomas, Newt, and Minho] are corrupted / the corrupted versions of them
WCKD is still a thing in this World except they never had a Maze plan in place, instead, they took to experimenting on the subjects to get the results they want.
Thomas was a subject that showed great promise, he seemed to have the flare but his blood would constantly be getting rid of it. WCKD decided to test his limits and see if there was a certain amount of the flare his blood can take. This resulting in him becoming half crank with his blood constantly fighting the flare but the flare always grows back.
Newt is a Crank subject, he is given potential cures to the flare very often which made him conscious of his mind compared to the other cranks, but he still acts like a crank just with self-awareness now. When he attacks people he doesn't do it mindlessly he does it with purpose and knows what he's doing.
Minho was another subject who showed promise with his blood being able to cure people for a short amount of time, expect his blood didn't contain the flare like Thomas's did so he went through a different experiment. Basically the same as the movie where they put him through realistic scenarios of his worse nightmares expect he ends up losing his mind and is unable to tell what is real and what is fake.
God Au
This story does not have a plot line yet, just characters
Thomas is the God of Heros and is considered one of the nicest Gods so if you want to communicate with a God, most people recommend going to him
Newt is considered a Pathway, which basically means he's a way to get to the Gods, him and Thomas have been married for thousands of year's, he is moral but keeps his morality with a necklace Thomas gave him that connects him and Thomas together. Basically, Newt relies on Thomas's life source to keep him alive. If the necklace is taken off nothing happens, he just goes back to being moral.
Minho is a moral in this Au, he does not have a role in this Au right now but he is the main focus of this Au, with Newt and Thomas being side characters at the beginning before being main characters later on.
The Graveyard Shift [Newtmas Au]
A simple sweet Au that was inspired by "The Nightmare Before Christmas" & "I have read the complete works of Montague Summers as well as Vampires: Burial, and Death and would just like to say the Penny Dreadful's are horribly inaccurate" by Singtome & "Amalgamation" by Tattered_Dreams
Thomas is a part of the Zombie population and quite literally lives in a graveyard, he is a part-time worker at a gas station that runs 24 hours, with him taking up the Graveyard shifts. Something features about Thomas is that he can not feel pain but that does not mean he isn't hurting, he's hand could be on fire and he wouldn't know until someone pointed it out. He is also able to rip off his hand, but only his left hand specifically since that was cut off before he became a Zombie.
Newt is basically Mothman and likes bothering the shit out of Thomas during his shifts. He has bright red eyes and large moth wings, at the beginning Newt would try to scare Thomas by popping out of nowhere, hanging upside down by the ceiling but Thomas has gotten used to it and doesn't even bat a eye.
There was a time when Thomas did scare the shit out of Newt when he got stabbed by a Robber but didn't notice until Newt pointed it out and all he said was "Oh,,,how did that get there? 🤨☝️"
Basically; Strangers to Friends to Lovers
Extra --> A small concept writing of this story expect Thomas works at a coffee shop instead with Brenda
October weaves through September, summer sun green leaves turning into fall orange and reds. Pumpkin spice hangs in the air, breeze passes through the town, and the sun covers up.  Thomas yells a “see ya” before leaving his home, closing the chain link fence behind him and sprinting through the dead weeds and cracked brick path.  He rounds the corner, using the lamp post as leverage to make a sharp turn. Busting open the doors of a dingy old looking coffee shop made of dark oak wood and filled with books, webs, and mold. 
The Flower Shop Down the Street [Newtmas]
Another short and sweet Au expect with superpowers
Thomas and Newt are around 26-30 years old, they are married and run a flower shop together, their flower shop is considered one of the most popular for the fact that Thomas has water base powers that allow him to water the plants more easily, with him being able to pick up water.
Newt on the other hand is a Planter but more on the weaker side of being a Planeter where he can't fully grow a plant but he can aid them in the growing process.
Extra--> I did write a short story about this but will only show some since I do not like the writing of it, I was like 14 when I wrote this LOL
Thomas places the watering can down the floor, next to a row of multicolored roses. And like magic, the water in the can float up, Thomas having his hands out. The water parted into four balls of water, all for different kinds of roses. He puts them into place above the plant stand, spreads his fingers out and let the water drop onto the roses like small rain droplets. Minho claps his hands in slow motion "ah, impressive" Minho says sarcastically. Thomas rolled his eyes " yeah I know, am the best " Thomas replies. He continues watering the plants the same way he did with the roses. Minho watching, the thing is, Minho wasn't born with powers and he always had an interest in them. When he was a kid he would pretend to have super speed and run across the field making 'zooming' sounds. He was kinda jealous of Thomas and Newt but he got over it and accepted the fact he was powerless. 
This is it for now but in the future I probably will draw fan art of some of these Aus or built more onto them
