First 5k Race and it was in the Philippines. This was a huge accomplishment for me. I never ran more than a mile prior to training for this 5k. I have been training over 10 weeks for this using the C25K @c25kfree #c25k app. It has been pivotal to my training. Thank you to those who created it. The race was really tough because it consisted of a lot of hills and it was at 5000 feet elevation. I do not recommend the Baguio Marathon. It was poorly organized and the race route so super dangerous. We were running on the major road next to trucks, buses, and fast moving cars. Any of us could have been struck by a car and killed. Especially for those who ran the 42k or the 21k because those started at 2am and 3am. I think it’s going to take someone getting hit by a car for them to realize how dangerous it is. There are parts of it with zero sidewalk and we are running on a fucking major highway. Wtf. Jesus Christ. Nevertheless it was a great experience. I wasn’t to sure with my time because when I arrived to the finish line there was traffic and they were scrambling recording our bibs. It’s now time to train for a 10k. Ways I could have improved for this race: Learn how to properly run downhill and to utilize the down hill momentum. Sleep earlier. I only slept 2 and a half hours. I woke up to use the restroom at 2:30am and I felt really full and not good because I ate too much the night before. Pretty much I just need to run more. I didn’t do the last days of training on the app. I will be heading off to get a full body massage today to help me with recovery. I’ll take tomorrow and Wednesday off, I’ll try to do yoga everyday this week and I’ll slip in a few boxing classes wed-Saturday and starting running again on Sunday utilizing Hal Higdon #halhigdon 10k running plan. Looking forward to eventually working my way to a full marathon sometime this year. After that school will be in session in August and I’ll be training for triathlons! 304/365 - Today was my last run of #HalloweenVacation2017. 3.5 miles, with a little walking (less than a minute at a time 3x). I promised my future self I wouldn’t be hard on myself about this since: 1. That’s dumb and counterproductive. 2. I have a new tattoo just under my sports bra line. 3. I can feel I’m getting a cold (sore throat/scratchy dry throat, runny nose, etc). I have this desire to run every single day. The endorphin high from running specifically is my drug of choice now that I don’t drink. I am excited for the time in the future when my body (ankle, knee, foot, hip specifically) can tolerate a daily run. Right now I want to be doing my #HalHigdon days and then a couch to 5k on the other days, but it wasn’t that long ago I was pushing my lower half too hard and ending up injured/on the verge of injury and seeing far more set backs than progress. Too much in the way of speed or frequency because my mind and ambition was over taking my physical ability. It’s hard to admit you’re not there yet. It’s hard to see it as the learning curve it is and not a failure every single time I’m not running a 10min mile to start or not running a 10k right off the bat with no stopping or walking. I was never in my entire life considered physically fit, interested in working out, or willing to even try. It just never interested me in any way at all. It’s difficult to remember that my old life of stationary work, sit down hobbies (illustration, sewing, crocheting, reading, horror movies), my love of pizza, and my precious life of boozing hard pretty frequently wasn’t conducive to 10min miles and instant 10k running. Today was the first day of training for my 6th marathon. I'll be running the Milwaukee Marathon on October 15. I haven't run a marathon since 2012. I figured I should document the crazy. Thus, Curds and Ways. Came up with that title during the 3 miler today. I can't decide if it's genius or dumb. Three miles felt really good today. I took a week off after running the Cellcom Half Marathon on May 21, so I was itching to get back out there. Let's get this party started!

Conditions were quite different, compared to last year. Last year, I was layered up, because it was only about 50° for the entire race. There is such a strange bond between a runner and running. For me, it is my therapy. Time with my thoughts and to truly find out where I am, mentally. You build a special bond with the roads you run and the people you run with, which makes it so much more worth it. The soreness you may feel will pass, but the sense of pride you have when you see that medal/those medals will last forever. It's been about 7 months since I've tasted the sweet flavor of a medal, but it was most definitely worth it. It might not have been my fastest time, but it was 15 minutes faster than the trial run last week and I didn't have a single mile over 12 minutes. Now it's time to take on the rest of the day. Home sweet home. I had all intentions of taking some fitness photos since today was my first “long” run for the #HalHigdon 10k training. I didn’t. I ran 3miles which is my longest run since I trained for the @hellonhillspgh 5k last year. Over a year. I sort of just quit. I was working out still but not running and not making progress in my running at all. I am so proud of myself for sticking with this and pushing through these run days. Having someone to partner with and be accountable to helps so much. I couldn’t and wouldn’t stick with this without @crowsfeetframes. I feel so fucking accomplished today. I was finally able to #run last night with no pain in my Achilles. Sadly, my knee pain came with a vengeance. Still, it was a good step in my recovery as I still track toward my first #marathon in October. @Chimarathon here I come! Anyway, to say my #training has been stilted would be an understatement. It has been about two months since the Gasparilla issue came up. Longest marathon training run! Honestly, I thought we'd be running a slower pace, but you fall in step with your runner girl gang, and you keep each other going! Ran the first 13 miles with my 2 training partners, and ran the last 7 miles with my coach who provided helpful tips, relaxation techniques, and helped me run those last miles even faster! It was a great weekend of running!
