Everyone talks about how expensive rent is but i dont ever see anyone talk about how expensive furniture and house stuff is. Saving up for like, a couch is insanely expensive. Buying one nice thing is fine but if you need several things suddenly the price builds up sooo high like I want to have a nice table and some nice chairs and maybe a nice lamp and suddenly that can all run me for 800eur easily at the cheapest.

#i went into a store the other day because i needed a lamp and they had so many nice looking things #i want to have a nice house but i dont have the money #literally a direct result of me buying my first ever furniture thing. my shelf. has made me hyperaware of how expensive everything is #and it was from ikea which is the cheapest ever!! i cant even imagine things that arent from ikea how much they'd cost!!#now whenever furniture gets destroyed in movies I always go NOOOOOOOOOOOO #who cares about the fucking protagonist or whatever getting punched that table was solid oak with a resin top AND hand carved legs!!$#thunderclap

"oh i'll just 3d model a house that'll be simple" no wise guy you're going to have to comb through several tutorials going over architectural modeling first to find out the best practices and solutions and figure out what sort of topology is acceptable and what isn't

#soda offers you a can #like ok you don't animate objects typically so you can get away with sub-par topology with those on occasion #but i'd rather not develop a habit of creating really poor models because i made all my doors and windows with booleans #also im going to need to model a bunch of furniture which i've never really done outside of a handful of school exercises hee hoo #could i use premade assets? certainly but imagine being able to model the exact kind of chair you vision in your mind

#this thought just hit me and it’s not shade just a fact lol #but i see all these people on ig talking about decorating/designing their kid’s rooms #and i just. the IDEA that my parents would’ve put that much thought into our room when we were kids is…. absurd???#i was a menace #i drew on walls #i chewed up toys #i carved into the bed frame #we had a bunk bed a second hand desk a chest of drawers each and plastic boxes for toys etc #everything was mismatched and very erhm lived in #it gives me so much anxiety i physically cringe to think abt what it would’ve been like had my room been decorated and had fancy wall papers #and expensive matching furniture and godddd #i would’ve ruined it all and felt so bad and it would’ve been such a waste of time and energy and money #(i got my own lovely 90s decorated room w green wallpaper w i was nine and GOD the way i spent ages 9-18 decorating and redecorating that #room - but at nine i was a lot less mayhemish #anyways that’s besides the point)#i just realized i’ve never thought abt this before and that (mostly) women spend so much time on something that would’ve made no sense in #my home #(also parents being too involved w their kid’s own space makes me claustrophobic- i wanted A LOT of alone time and needed my own space #and the concept of my parents controlling my playing OR what happened in our room makes me stress sweat #oh boy this is rambly and i’m so happy i don’t have kids haha #)

I really don't want to voice it bc it'd be unfair to everyone else but I just know living with my grandma has chipped away at my mental health over time and some days it's unbearable

#we had to move the furniture in a way that made a handful of rooms just fucking heinous to be in #everything is tight and the smell in her room drives me into sensory overload a lot of the time #i wish my aunt and uncle werent stupid cunts bc they have a genuinely big house and she wasnt bothering anyone #i hate those two i hope they die in debt idk #they havent picked her up ONCE on their day since the move #when she was living there my dad would have to tell them he wasnt going to make it ages before our day came up so they could prepare #now her daughter barely fucking shows up #i hate my family i hate it i wish she didnt have to live with us its clouding my brain in unfathomable ways #and i dont want to tell them that bc maybe i should've been born normal and be able to leave the house if i hate it that much!!!!!!

I'm going to learn whittling because I need to do some sort of woodworking or I will go insane

#i made a table and a bookshelf in high school and it kept me going for a few years #but i need to do some sort of wood craft every now and then or i get so weird and paranoid. must reject modernity return to wood or whatever #i cannot get power tools while living at home bc my parents will mock me #BUT. I CAN WHITTLE #do i know how to whittle? no. am i afraid of knives? yes.#but i need it. i need to hold wood in my hands and make little useless dingles #i need to make a whale and a bird and three thousand magnets #i need to craft Or Else #im really worried im going to hurt myself but bc im so scared of knives i think i can translate that into extreme caution #im getting whittling gloves but the knives are so sharp that sometimes it doesn't matter #its okay. im scared but i can do it scared.#i will be careful. i will be patient and cautious and i will focus.#and on god i will make little wooden animals.#its me and wood against the world #when i get my own apartment (and get over the fear of being noisy) i will get power tools and finally #FINALLY #be able to start making furniture again #but for now: i will whittle

hi, i found your blog through some old homestuck fanart and i immediately binge read all of solivaga, everything about it is so striking. your use of chromatic aberration is especially good for making the comic pop - i was wondering if you've made any tutorials or step-by-step processes of how you implement it?

Thank you so much! It means the world to me knowing anyone sits down to read my work! Soli means so much to me, so while I'm glad you stopped by after the HS fanart, I'm thrilled you checked out the comic! As for the effect... I don't currently have any step by step explanations, but if you don't mind hanging tight-- I've got a few pages that don't yet have their final effects on them and I can take shots of how I do it and post those up! Right now I'm getting this month's patreon pack together, so it'll be a little bit before I open up pages. Just keep an eye out here, though, and I'll show the finalizing effects I use on my pages.

Almost done with the coffee table. Need a few more coats of tung oil (the tung oil is absorbed by the wood and preserves it, furniture that has been coated in this has been around for hundreds of years).
